When my alarm went off this morning it was was about 40°f and raining so I decided to go back to sleep for an hour and then get up and do some yoga. If it was raining like that in the summertime I probably would have run, but I could just not face cold, dark and rainy today. It is supposed to be in the 50's tomorrow and cloudy but not raining so I will just run then.5

Catching up! It's been what? A day? 100 posts behind?!
@AlphaHowls Good to see you! I still haven't eaten crickets.
@TheMrWobbly EXCELLENT WORK! BRAVO! STANDING OVATION!
@Faebert @quilteryoyo @Contrary_MaryM @kgirlhart and everybody else - thank you! I have already taken my anxiety meds so I can't remember who all responded (yes, I'm going to bed in a minute, lol) but thank you so much.
@Tramboman so consistent, per the usual. The consistency inspires me so much. I think of it often when I am waking up at 4am. The consistency is key, I tell myself. There must be discipline. Even if I have no job to be at, there must be discipline.
I signed up for the Leadville, CO Silverrush 50 miler today! It's a qualifier for the 100 and if I commit to 10 hours of trail work they will give me preference in the lottery. So duh, I said yes. of course I would love to work harder, lmao.
Also what a day to be alive in America! I didn't get to watch any of it because parenting and autism and teenagers and it's my son's birthday Friday and job hunting and therapy appointments... but what. a damn. day.
@rheddmobile your race sounds so nice! Your times seem good too! Same with you, on the consistency.
This week I've been easing back into high intensity/ high volume. It's going really well. I can tell I am going to need new shoes soon. Another great reason to get a new job asap. Aside from the obvious, I need to pay bills.
Things are going to be okay. I am working really hard on the job hunt, so hopefully something will come of it soon. I can't imagine working this hard and nothing happening. We'll see what happens. I've done and am doing what I can... I wish I had more control of the outcome. Don't we all.
Anyway. Bed for me. Glad to be back! Miss having friends!10 -

All you people doing hill repeats are making me feel guilty. I skipped speedwork this week and I think hills were on the menu. @eleanorhawkins my run coach always picks hills that take about 30 seconds to run up as the workout. And then repeats the running up and jogging down for a set time like 20 minutes to 40 minutes, depending where we are in the cycle of training.
20 to 40 minutes???? I did 4 repeats, probably 8 to 9 minutes altogether, and the last few steps at the top on the last one I seriously thought my legs were going to refuse to work! Well, I guess now I have a goal to work towards. My muscles are tight today, I think this morning's run is going to be a very slow one.9 -
Last night, I was sore from the previous day’s body pump, so I ended up just walking. I got in a little over 2.5 before it got dark.
I’m thinking of signing up for a half marathon on the Air Force base here next month. I wasn’t sure if they were going to end up doing it, but it looks like they have put some pretty strict things in place for social distancing - sit in your car until your time, and only two people start at a time. Sounds like it will take all morning to get going, but I am considering it. Of course, have I been prepping for a half? No. I feel confident that I can run it though, although maybe not with the most awesome time. Will make an official decision by the weekend.9 -
katharmonic wrote: »Because it was dark and snowing I stayed in my neighborhood and looped around, but when I tried to pass my house to add a little bit more at like 1.94 miles Stella was not having it. She refused to go past the driveway so I put her in the house and did the rest on my own.
I don't blame you @kgirlhart . Cold rain is not fun in my book either.
@Camaramandy648 I hope you find the right job for you quickly. You are doing great and have a great attitude. Prayers and hugs.
@marisap2010 That does sound like it would take a long time to get everyone out on the course, but I guess you gotta do what you gotta do if you want to have an in person race. I hope they are allowed to go ahead with it. I'm sure if you decide to run it that you will do great - just finishing is great in my opinion. Which AF base is it?4 -

Sunny and high 20s this morning, but when I looked out the window and saw the tree branches moving I convinced myself it was windy and used the treadmill. Ran fasted this morning and spent some dizzy time in the middle of the run. It seems like the older I get, the shorter summer is, but winter lasts FOREVER!!!!
When you pop in here claiming your December 2021 mileage, what accomplishments will you have made?
PUT THE FUN BACK IN THE RUN!
Return to a good running weight of 175 lbs (second attempt)6 -
@eleanorhawkins ha, yes it's a long time, especially that 40 minute one. But that is typically only well into marathon training season. Usually we do 20-25 for most of them. Which is plenty long. And of course depends on how steep your hill is how painful!
@marisap2010 - 2 people at a time does seem like it would take forever, unless they are going to have 2 people ready to go every 20-30 seconds or so. That is what the race I did in November was like but with 4 people at the line at a time. Then the next 4 move up and so on. A group of like 20 lined up at a time, marked in lanes by cones. Anyway, I hope it will work out well for you if you want to do it.
@Tramboman better to be safe than sorry with the wind! Winter does last forever but it still feels to me like it just started because we've had so little snow and I want to do snow-related stuff! This weekend promises to be a super cold one and I already cancelled a planned hiking trip so I'm sure I'll be over it and complaining about winter in a couple of days.

Treadmill again! A little over two miles before strength training and the other half after. The fancy treadmill had some kind of display glitch so I had to just rely on my watch and didn't know for sure what exact speed or incline I had it set on. I took the liberty of unplugging the whole thing when I went back to it after strength training and it rebooted and was cured. Technology just gets in the way sometimes but I've convinced myself this treadmill is the best one and hardly anyone else uses it so I consider it mine.6 -

Another cool morning, uneventful run. I'm running late for work again so no time to comment today, but I gave lots of likes and hugs6 -
Morning all. Well after all the whacky and wild weather the last few days (been winter like temperatures in the middle of summer with rain and wind), today is mild and glorious. I was up at 730, so out the door for a 7k run. And I got to the top of my hill!! I stopped and walked as soon as I got there but yay for progress haha.
Tomorrow calls for a 13k long run. I'll be doing the same as last week, up at 530 to be out running at 6am. Help set up Parkrun at 730, and I'm volunteering (Marshall, not directing this time). Then off to a different town for work for the weekend.8 -
Hi all, I’m a couple of days behind but think I’ve caught up!
@quilteryoyo - great to hear you are walking loads already. Hope it goes well with the checkup tomorrow.
@TheMrWobbly - love the shoes. Another Asics fan over here!
@katharmonic and @eleanorhawkins - I live in a really hilly area and I’ve got to say that even though I told myself I was keeping things ticking over with the treadmill, I definitely didn’t work the incline enough. I’m back out on the road again and it is a killer!
@kgirlhart - agree on the freezing rain. It’s especially hard when it’s dark. The only good thing about our latest lockdown is I can get out a bit later for my run as my commute from shower to desk in the kitchen is pretty brief!
Echoing @Camaramandy648 about @Tramboman @rheddmobile and all the consistent crew who are too many to name! I’m trying to get back to that place now. I’m back working on alternating running with strength training and building my mileage back up gradually. Still not completely back to normal. Lots of coughing after my runs, but hopefully I don’t have any serious long-term damage.
Jan goal: get back to running regularly and build back fitness
Jan mileage:
13/1: 2.24m
14/1: 2.9m
18/1: 3.45m
20/1: 3.25m

I’ve been really busy with college starting back up this week, but I finally got some exercise in today! I ran on the elliptical for almost 20 minutes while I watched a pre-recorded lecture for class.8

It was snowing when I woke up this morning so I decided to wait until lunch to get a short run in. I'm working from home this week so that's doable. I ran a slow 5k. I wore my trail shoes because I wasn't sure if the road was clear. They don't have as much support as my road shoes and I could tell it. Turns out road shoes would have been fine as the road was mostly clear.4
-
@Tramboman Hahaha about the 3 branches moving. Cold combined with wind really aren't' my friend either. Sorry you got dizzy in the middle of the run. At least you know it was probably because you hadn't eaten.
@katharmonic Why doesn't anyone else want to use your treadmill? Is it "too fancy" for them. My display messes up sometimes. If I manually change the incline, it magically fixes it, for a while anyway. I unplug it every day I use it, so that is not my problem. You're doing great.
@Avidkeo Yeah for making it up that hill! Congratulations. Sounds like you have a great weekend planned also. Good luck with the run and Marshalling.
@Faebert Glad you able to run. Hope the coughing subsides soon. It's annoying, if nothing else.
@Teresa502 Just had a cold rain here this morning. Glad you could wait until later to get out for your run and that the roads weren't slick.3 -
@Teresa502 has started a thought for me. I only have trail shoes (my current routes are 50% trails). Should I consider road shoes for organised road events?2
-
I would point out that the consistency praise being heaped at my feet is far more due to being retired than to any discipline on my part.
Those of you who have to incorporate running into the juggling act of life are the ones who really amaze me.
@quilteryoyo My wife might argue I'm pretty dizzy on a regular basis, whether I fuel or not.8 -
TheMrWobbly wrote: »@Teresa502 has started a thought for me. I only have trail shoes (my current routes are 50% trails). Should I consider road shoes for organised road events?
Absolutely. Road shoes usually have more cushioning for the harder surface and a slicker sole which simply translates to more speed!2 -
TheMrWobbly wrote: »@Teresa502 has started a thought for me. I only have trail shoes (my current routes are 50% trails). Should I consider road shoes for organised road events?
Depends... for road races you might be happier and faster with some lighter weight, less luggy shoes. Your new shoes look like the lugs are pretty big, doesn’t it feel a bit rough on roads?1 -

@theMrWobbly agreed that road shoes are going to be much more comfortable and perform better for hard surfaces. I hate wearing my trail shoes on the road. And it wears down their tread.4 -

I think you should.
I do all my running on roads, but I even have separate shoes for training (sturdy and a little heavy) and racing ( lighter with less drop).
Wonder if racing will ever come back.4 -
@quilteryoyo It is Robins AFB. It was my husband’s last station before he transitioned into the defense contractor sector.
Keep my Bassett Daisy in your thoughts today, please. She is having an tumor removed, and we’ll find out if it is cancerous. I’m really worried about her going under anesthesia since she is older, even though the vet said her labs looked ok for it. She is angry with me currently because she can’t eat or drink, so she is being very antisocial.13
