I ran 9.5 miles today. I decided to run 15K, but then I couldn't remember if that was 9.34 or 9.37. So I decided to run 9.4. Then when I got home I was at 9.43 so I decided to go ahead and get to 9.5. Of course after I went in I thought I should have just gone half a mile more, but I have been trying not to over do it, so I stuck with 9.5. (I also looked up 15K and it is 9.32 miles so I guess I would have been ok either way.)
It was a pretty fun run. I was cold starting out. The temperature wasn't that low but there was a cold wind. But not as windy as yesterday and the sky was pretty and blue. Yesterday it was brown. I waited a bit before heading out so it could warm up some. And I debated a lot about what to wear. I went with capri leggings and a t-shirt with sleeves. Plus gloves and a headband covering my ears under my cap. I was chilly for a while, but eventually warmed up and was about right. I did end up taking off the sleeves, gloves and headband, but I never really felt over dressed.
About 2 miles into my run I was joined by a dog. It was near the spot where I had 2 dogs join me before. This dog ran with me for about 2 miles and then I turned around to go back past where he joined me. He ended up running about 4 miles with me. I thought he might follow me home, but I saw a couple of women in a yard so I asked if they knew who he belongs to. They didn't, but said they see him a lot. He had a collar on and was very friendly so he definitely belonged to someone. Luckily he stayed with them and I was able to finish my run.
My running buddy:
This run puts me at 113.64 for January. I am tempted to put my February goal back to 100, but I am still trying not to overdo it with my hip so I will stick with 90 miles as my goal for at least one more month. Congrats to all who made their goal and if you didn't. No worries, there is always next month. See you all over in the February thread.

Easy 5k - usually today would be speedwork but we plan on running the Winter off-road 5k course at race pace on Tuesday, so that is going to count for this week’s speedwork.
It was 42 degrees but a very chilly 42! Damp with a high wind. Not too bad while running but we cut our walk afterwards to the minimum. We usually pass several runners and walkers, and today we only passed one guy, running, wearing shorts and a t-shirt. He looked like he was running for his life trying to stay warm!
That’s it for me for January, I think I did 102 miles? Running plus walking. That’s about 20 miles less than I have been doing, since I stopped running while my husband shopped because it’s too dangerous to shop now. Instead of getting out and running something on that day, I added an extra lifting day, since it’s winter and one less running day per week means we can move runs around when the weather is bad.
All in all a productive month, did well on the first two races of my homegrown series, and got in practice for the next race. Looking forward to February!4 -
I'm hanging out for what she chooses in New Zealand. Only 6 months before we get there...3 -
@HonuNui - I think it would be just so amazing to find yourself swimming with a pod of dolphins. You know people pay to do that on the mainland!?
@kgirlhart - nice puppy running buddy!
@swenson19d - the book is Keep Sharp: Build a Better Brain at Any Age by Sanjay Gupta. I highly recommend it. Not necessarily new information on what to do to be brain (and otherwise) healthy (exercise, diet, community, etc.) but fascinating and (a bit) scary information on how the brain functions and how things impact it and in turn your metabolism and the impact on the risk for dementia/Alzheimers
I got in a bit over 2.5 mile recovery today to finish up the month with 84 mile. Didn't make goal but I am still moving and right now that is all that is important. Onward to February!5 -
hi all
popping in and hugs for all in need.
been kinda running.
did get a good run in with my troublemaker sophie. today, i hope to take speed demon and her out.
we did 4 total with a little cool down hike after.
sophie is human and dog aggressive. an escape artist, be it crate or yard. redecorator. scary smart. very loving and goofy when comfortable. I've had her for 2 weeks and we've been making great strides. she can now hang with my dogs without a huge fight. i'm desensitizing her at yoga classes since i can't leave her at home alone.
that said, she did great on her first real run. and i felt really good too. i felt like i hit my stride. felt powerful. she ran by my side or in front but not pulling a lot. she only tried to kill one thing-deer who were about a 1/4 mi away. she didn't react to the skiers going down the local ski hill.
and the post run hike was really beautiful.8 -
@kgirlhart Great run. Love your running buddy. I hope he stays safe. Great job exceeding your goal for the month!
@rheddmobile Great month. I feel for the guy in shorts. I've had those days you think it is warm based on the thermometer, but you freeze and question you sanity after you get out.
@mbaker566 That snow is beautiful, but looks so cold. Glad Sophie likes to run. Maybe that will keep her out of trouble...a tired dog is a good dog, you know.0 -
@quilteryoyo it worked for about 20 min. then she had zoomies in the backyard
