Cool. Thanks for sharing @eleanorhawkins !

@eleanorhawkins - I've only been to the airport in Portugal for a connection but flying over it looked like a beautiful country. I had a friend and her husband who walked part of the Camino de Santiago in 2019 and now it's on my bucket list.2

Hey guys! I. Am. So. Behind. I have read and think caught up. You all are fabulous.
@quilteryoyo and @skippygirlsmom Happy to see you both on the mend!
Still following my routine on track for my goals so far. Did my 150 run this morning on the Peloton App!
Total of about 7.67 miles for the today.
Nothing really exciting been happening around here, no fun places to run, I also was getting tired of running the same neighborhood greenways. The app is helping with the distraction.
Had some teenage issues to deal with. UGH why is it so? I mean I know I had my moments, but in this world teenagers are so much different.....7 -
Darn it, I was hoping to stop off at a few vineyards in Bordeaux, home of some of the most expensive wine in the world from the tiny Petrus vineyard (I wasn't going there!)
As @eleanorhawkins said we head through Pamplona where they hold the running of the bulls, good luck if you fancy it though I tend to root for the bulls!!
We are now heading off to Burgos which is one of the most well preserved medieval cities in Europe9 -

The short reprieve from the hot weather we've had is now over and we're back to temps around 30°C this week. Run this morning was a bit of a slog. I seem to keep getting slower the more I run at the moment! I'll put it down to the hot weather...
I hit my 100km monthly goal a few days ago, obviously I way underestimated what was in my plan!
@katharmonic Sounds like a great day out on the ski fields
@quilteryoyo You're doing such a great job with your recovery
@AlphaHowls 1000 days on the run!!! You amaze me
@Tramboman Your dream reminds me of something my sister was telling me about - she's reading a book of a real life account of a family who were sailing around the world when their boat was attacked by a pod of orcas and they ended up in a life raft for about 2 months before being rescued
@juliet3455 You cold weather runners are crazy!!
@eleanorhawkins Thanks for the pics, I've never been to Spain or Portugal, but both are on my bucket list

Oh, I carry on full conversations with myself when I run. I stopped listening to music/podcasts a while back so the self talk is now my only distraction.5 -
@AlphaHowls I just have to take an entire post and say 182 days of a >HM streak just boggles my mind. Can I ask what sort of pace you run? I think if I wasn't so friggin old and slow I could get more mileage in but wow. just WOW! YOU ARE TOTALLY AWESOME!4

It's been A day.I noticed last night that my heat pump wasn't working. It was running, but not keeping the temperature where it should have been. So, I used emergency heat last night and called the company this morning. Fortunately, they were able to make it out today, before noon, to look at it. Unfortunately, the coil they replaced in June has a hole in it and the Freon has all leaked out. They have to order a new coil. Again, fortunately, it isn't too cold because I will be on emergency heat until they get it fixed. Also good is that it is under warranty.
I had gotten a notice on Saturday that I had a registered letter I'd need to sign to get. I called early, hoping the get them to bring it back today and I'd have the gate opened. No such luck. I would need to go pick it up. Normally, that would not be a big deal, but not being able to drive makes everything harder than it needs to be. My neighbor graciously took me this afternoon. As suspected, it was a letter from the IRS stating that they are going to seize my property because I didn't pay my 2019 taxes. Note, I did pay them, have the cancelled check, talked to them in August, they found it and were supposed to take care of it. I got another notice in December and have called them 8 times since and haven't been able to get through. So, today, I called and punched incorrect numbers and was able to get to talk to an actual person. They found my account and said they didn't understand why it wasn't transferred over before. She said I need to send them a copy of the check with a letter stating the situation. She said she would put a note on my account so they wouldn't send any more notices (and I hope won't freeze my accounts). I will do that in the morning.
Then, I opened my mail and have been charged a late fee on a credit card account that I paid in plenty of time. Guess I'll call them tomorrow too.
I had considered taking today as a rest day, but decided I really needed to get some energy out. So, I did laps on the driveway for 32 minutes (1.75 miles), ranting to the universe and whoever else would listen the entire time. I do feel better for having done it.16 -

Anywhere from 5 mph to 6 mph, about 10+ minute miles most times. I turned 50 November 2020.6 -
@quilteryoyo Big hugs to you. I can’t imagine how frustrated you must be.
@AlphaHowls I can’t even imagine running those miles every day!
Someone in a local running group posted the other day that she ran on a cross country trail at one of the private schools. I had no idea it was there but went by on my way home from work to check it out. It is so nice and well marked! I haven’t been able to find a map, but the signs indicated a 2 mile trail and a 5k trail, but there seem to be some offshoots as well. I ran 2.35 miles but headed out before it got dark in the woods. I will definitely be adding this to my list of places.12 -

The person who invented "when it rains, it pours" knew what they were talking about.
Glad you have the ammunition to slay the monsters.5 -
Turned out I made the right call not running today.
Forecast said rain all day with thunderstorms starting about 11 am until about 6 pm. We have been running about 2 pm which would put us right in the middle of the lightning. Got up today, no rain, but the storms still forecast. Then they kept pushing them back, until by the time we normally leave, they had been cancelled completely and it was supposed to be clear weather all day! But we hadn’t done anything to get ready and by the time we got our act together it would have been too late to finish before dark. So I though, darn, we should have run! It’s going to be nice!
And then, out of nowhere, in complete contradiction to the forecast, we had golf ball sized hail, on the park where we were going to run. And also a tornado about a mile away. We had penny sized hail at my house but my husband got the car covered in time. Just glad we weren’t out in it!6 -
@quilteryoyo the only downfall to the iwalk is sitting down. You need to keep undoing it. I haven’t used it much since it’s cold out and I’m
working all day, but I plan to use it more.
@shanaber I tore one side and broke the other. Go big or go home3 -

I don't know what's going on the last couple of runs, but I need the fun put back in my run too!
I was supposed to do a 6 Mile speed workout today, and I just couldn't do it. By the time I headed out I already knew I wasn't in the mood to do speed work so I thought I would just run the mileage. But, as soon as I started running my right knee was hurting and my calf was tight. Usually any little niggles will work themselves out in the first half mile or so but they just didn't today. My legs felt heavy and my gait felt like I was plodding the entire time. I one point I considered turning around and making it home with only about two miles, but I managed to talk myself into adding a little loop on that got me to a little over 3 today. Hopefully, tomorrow will be better.
Now to ice my knee.7 -
@quilteryoyo You certainly did have a day! I hope things get easier for you soon.
@AlphaHowls I add my Wow! I seriously don't know how you do it.0 -
@rheddmobile Talk about lucky avoiding the hail!1
-
@AlphaHowls you are amazing, as always. Congrats on 1000 days and a mind-boggling amount of miles.
@quilteryoyo I'm so sorry, that is beyond frustrating and stressful. Hope you get these things resolved once and for all. More hugs!
@juliet3455 good to see you! Love the ice lash pictures. Hard core.
@skippygirlsmom I hadn't heard of the iWalk either and looked it up. Cool idea and glad it's working for you.
@marisap2010 how fun to find a new trail!

I had planned to meet a friend for a late afternoon run but it didn't work out. So just a treadmill warmup before strength training. Accidentally stopped at 1.99 miles on Garmin. Should have let that roll over! Good thing my spreadsheet is displaying just one decimal point so it rounds up.5 -

@quilteryoyo just imagine every step and driveway lap as stomping some incompetent nincompoop's head...
*So, my 2021 resolution is to hike/run all 193 (or 195 depending on your source) countries of the world this year. This could be difficult, since I don’t have a passport. But YouTube to the rescue! I have been using the site to take train “trips” recently, and have found them strangely motivating. Why not the world?

We were just talking about this. Some days we feel awesome and it was a great run, others are a grind and we barely make it, yet when we look at the times there seems to very little in it. Weird!2 -
We had @rheddmobile's thunderstorms roll through about midnight last night. l don't know if it hailed but lots of thunder, lightning and rain. Need to call the cable company because I'm pretty sure the lightning took out one of the boxes. When I headed out to run at 6:15 this morning it was very dark, 51F and a steady drizzle of rain was coming down. Lots of debris in the road that had washed out from overflowed ditch lines along with water running across the road in several places. But, it was 51F! What a nice treat from running in the 20s! I got 5 miles in, have showered and now must get to work. Hope everyone has a great day/evening!4
-
Thanks @Tramboman !
@rheddmobile I'm glad you weren't out in the hail storm! I hear some thunder last night, but it never got close here. I wasn't expecting that either. I hope everyone in AL is okay.
@skippygirlsmom I didn't think about sitting down. I can see how that would be hard. I guess you have to be really thoughtful about when you use it.
@martaindale We all have those days. I hope today is better for you and your knee feels better!
Thanks @katharmonic . Hahaha about the treadmill distance. I always use the distance on the treadmill and the calories burned from the Garmin. The two are never anywhere close, so I pick and choose which I think is the most accurate.
@HonuNui Thanks. That made me laugh. I may just have to do that today!
Great run @Teresa502 ! It was 49 here this morning and the rain had stopped. Good for you for getting out and running early. I hope you have a great day too!3 -

Much better run today! Like, so much better. Gait felt good, legs didn't hurt. I'm not sure exactly what the problem has been but I focused yesterday on serious recovery. I drank a ton of water, because I was probably a little dehydrated. My sleep has been weird, but last night I slept really well despite several trips to the bathroom because of all the water! I did a really good stretch and roll session yesterday and just took it easy in the evening instead of going climbing. And, the weather was basically perfect for me, low 50's with humidity that wasn't insane. With so many changes I'm not sure what made the difference. Maybe a little of each.
The weather definitely affects me, but it isn't entirely to blame for my recent struggles. I have been slacking on rolling and probably not drinking enough, but I always stretch and usually get a decent night's sleep. I don't know. I think those little things add up, especially as I get older. I know several of you are quite a bit older than I am and absolutely killing it! But I can definitely tell that things just take more of a physical toll now compared to several years ago and I have to be mindful of taking care of myself if I want to keep doing my sports as I age.7 -
Just checking in.
Life stuffWe made it to the new house and got the furnace repaired yesterday, so it's warming up. I'm surrounded by boxes and trying to keep my head above water, and then woke up this morning with tummy issues. I still went for a run and felt mostly fine during the run, but then started feeling yucky again after I got back. I'm thinking stress and adjusting to the new place. So I took a nap!
The people we'll be working with graciously decided to organize amongst themselves to bring us meals all week, which is a huge help. I've ordered some furniture that should start arriving tomorrow. I'm so ready for the washing machine! The kids are off to a good start with school - one online and one in-person. Life is stressful at the moment, but good.
I decided to turn the other way at the bottom of the road on my run this time, because there's a sidewalk that way, and found a flatish stretch that's good for speedwork. I didn't do a long workout, but it was enough to count as weekly speedwork and keep the streak going and to help my sanity a little11 -
@martaindale I so know what you mean... I'm starting to wonder if I'm overdoing it and need more recovery. I'm having a lot of, umm, female issues atm which, although I'm only 43, seem to be pointing to perimenopause. My husband insists I'm too young amd it's all because I exercise too much . That isn't a good thing to say to a hormonal mess of a middle-aged mother of a teenager with issues, btw.
Hugs @polskagirl01 you're getting there, hang in there!
Sorry if I've missed anything important from anyone, I'm in a bit of a foggy funk atm.9 -

I've actually wondered the same thing re: perimenopause. My mom went through menopause in her mid 30's, so while early 40's is a little earlier than average, it's not out of the question!
Love the shoes @TheMrWobbly You'll have to see if you can tell a difference compared with your trail shoes. I absolutely can!

The first signs of perimenopause at 43 sounds about right. I’m 46 and have been noticing changes - mental mostly - for a few years now, as have all my friends who are my age. Menopause is usually in your 50s but you can expect about 10 years of symptoms before. Get plenty of sleep and tighten up your nutrition. Ignore your husband, he’s not being helpful. Chat to your friends - there’s a bit of stigma about perimenopause but I found when I brought up the subject, all my friends were happy to chat and share their experiences - and relived to find they weren’t going crazy and that there was someone else going through the same thing.6
