Black COFFEE suggestions..

What are some suggestions on black coffee, coldbrews, premade, store brought, recipes etc...That don't trigger appetite, I noticed when I make some black "flavored" coffees it triggers my appetite also when I add Stevia drops it does, idk know if its one or the other, maby both. I can't find ingredients for the flavors on the coffee bag.

Hazelnut is nice. I grind whole beans every morning and sometimes throw a small handful of cocoa nibs into the grind for a hint of smooth cocoa.2

Can confirm, just a little bit of salt takes the edge off without making the coffee salty. Not a lot, literally just a pinch.
Salt is my go-to for stuff like diner coffee that's been sitting on a warmer for a hundred years and gotten all burnt and bitter-tasting. I sort of forced myself off of sweetened coffee in undergrad, learned to like it black with no sugar - first of all, I didn't have time to fix up a mug of coffee-flavored sugar-milk when I was trying to write a paper at 3 AM, and second of all, I didn't want the calories or hunger spike that came with adding stuff to my coffee. Eventually I got more "into" coffee and now I buy whole beans from a local roastery and grind some fresh each morning to brew in my French press. Coffee is one of those hobbies that can get expensive quick if you let it, but even just buying, like, Eight O'Clock whole beans at the grocery store is a step up from your Folgers/similar big-name can-o-grounds.3 -
Buy premium coffee from a micro-torréfacteur (local coffee roaster). Experiment with dark, medium and light roasts. A good roaster will take time to explain their current flavour profiles to you.
I find that most proper, freshly ground coffee doesn't need added stuff: milk, creamers, sweeteners, etc.5 -
I see @gigius72 got disagrees and why I don't know because it's legitimate, true, and sincere advice.
Why ask for advice or an opinion if you want to dictate or manipulate the response?!
Anyway @gigius72 wrapped it up in a nutshell.
Also, if you're using flavored coffees and they're triggering the old appetite, you may want to try coffees that don't have flavor added.

☕️ I drink way too much coffee.. I used to drink with cream and monkfruit... to save calories I now do black with a touch of cinnamon or a hint of cocoa powder. My fav is using a dried vanilla bean and letting it sit for awhile.
•Arabica beans make coffee that is less bitter than Robusta beans.
•Lighter (less roasted) beans tend to be less bitter. Check out Kona-light roast.
•a courser grind is less bitter compared to more finely ground.
(~from a child who grew up with a parent working for a coffee manufacturer 😉 )

I'll own my disagree. There are some studies that seem to show artificial sweeteners trigger an insulin response. Many more show no such thing, and both the American and British Diabetes associations recommend artificial sweeteners to diabetics.
It is also not universally true that artificial sweeteners make you hungrier. Some people say it's true for them, others say they have no affect. I often have a diet soda when I feel snacky and have personally never found them to increase my appetite at all.
To the OP, are you trying to essentially replace breakfast with coffee? I do find caffeine works as an appetite suppressant myself, but even so black coffee doesn't work for me. I have to use 1/4 cup of milk in my big mug of coffee, and it still only holds me over to a pretty early lunch. Sometimes I'll have a small protein snack with my coffee, like one egg or a string cheese to tide me over better. It's possible you're one of those people who just needs some food in the AM!

You are right, its definitely an insulin response.Thats why I moved to drinking black coffee, I can't take the hunger spikes, from add-ins, I thought the pure Stevia drops I use are safe ( but that might not be the case).Today I didnt use any Stevia and drank plain black(non flavored) coffee and NO HUNGER SPIKES; So it's definitely the flavors, or the stevia, I'll have to do some experimenting to find out, but in the meantime( my) plain black coffees taste was not so great👎

Um, I actually doubt any of the above trigger appetite, but personally I drink coffee black (which so far as I know meas not adding sugar or any other sweetener or flavoring) and it has never triggered appetite, so maybe try that.3 -

Actually I've done it all, breakfast, no breakfast, smoothies, personally, I do best w lots of water and black coffee (maby some almonds) in the morning; All that Milk, creamers etc.. cause me digestive issues and stomach upset later, so no thanks.1 -

Here in Australia, black coffee means without milk or cream.
One can certainly have sweetened black coffee.
Incidentally I have never found artificial sweeteners make me more hungry than non sweetened or sugar sweetened drinks.10 -

I don't think you'll regret it. Clearly something in the flavoring or sweetener is making your brain think it's snacktime, so if plain ol' regular coffee is what you need, it's worth investing in a setup that will yield really good plain ol' regular coffee.7 -
French pressed coffee with freshly ground coffee is really good.
ETA. I have the double walled stainless maker because I broke the glass French press twice. And if you get a grinder, be sure it is a burr grinder.4 -

Good quality beans roasted the way you like them roasted. I have some go-to that I use. Let them age a day or three after roasting before grinding for the full flavor to mature.
I am a big fan of single-cup pour-over coffee. Get a cone and some filters. I use unbleached because who needs bleach? Paper filters remove the caffestol. Coffee presses also make good coffee, but they have two drawbacks to me. One is the caffestol. The other is that since some of the actual coffee stays in the liquid, it keeps brewing in your cup.
My method that makes a fine cup with no additions:- Assemble paper filter by folding along the crimped edge.
- Put filter in cone and run some water through it to remove any paper particles. Some use hot water.
- Add freshly ground coffee. Not too fine, but not too coarse. If you can afford a burr grinder, go for it. I keep promising myself one, but still use a blade grinder.
- Pour a little water just off the boil in and the grounds "bloom." As they are blooming, stir them gently with a spoon.
- Continue adding boiling water to keep the grounds barely floating in the water.
Enjoy a really good cup. Then make another when done. I have three most days.3 -
How is stevia artificial when it comes from a leaf? How is it any more artificial than maple from a tree or sugar from a cane or that delicious bee excrement, honey?
Back to the black coffee quandry... I quit smoking last year and had the same thing with coffee, except it triggered an urge to smoke. What I did was attempt to retrain my brain to associate coffee with something else. I used walking, stretching and physical movement instead, but I could have decided for reading or music or scented baths. Sometimes I use a dash of cinnamon in my coffee to confuse and delight the senses.
sigh. I love coffee but it doesn't love me anymore. Because of my blood pressure, I can only drink one cup of the good stuff anymore, so I savor it. Then I switch to decaf or teas, and of course, water.6 -

That is why I said I don't know about stevia. I haven't bought it in probably 10 years. When it was the newer sugar alternative, it was like it is monk fruit now. They added artificial sweeteners to cut the cost of production.
Stevia leaf is not all sweet, only part of it. So either they used the small part of it which is sweet (and that would make it more cost elevated) or they added sucralose or other sweeteners.

Oh yeah, cinnamon is really good. Protip, in case anyone else like me took entirely too long to figure this out: it's better if you put the cinnamon in in with the grounds, no matter what brewing method you're using. Cinnamon doesn't dissolve, so it'll just float on top of your coffee if you put it in after the fact.5

I kind of stand by my advice to just drink it plain (if black is not the correct word for that, sigh), as for me plain coffee is both the tastiest by far (sweet coffee seems weird to me) or with milk and count the cals, as for me milk doesn't increase appetite, just wastes cals if added to coffee, or add something non sweet if sweetness is a trigger for you. But for me (like kimny above), diet soda (my main source of added sweetener) is definitely not appetite provoking. It's going to depend on the person, but I've always found coffee an appetite suppressant, although I think it might be because I have a tendency to want to eat when not hungry and drinking an (almost) no cal bev instead satisfies me, including in the mornings as I currently don't eat before noon normally.8 -

I've seen the appetite increasing studies in artificial sweeteners threads in Debate. However, since they don't say that the appetite increasing effect is universally true, I would have worded it "But studies showed that artificial sweeteners MAY increase hunger in SOME people."
(I'm not up on the "increase insulin levels" piece.)7 -

Obviously people can then assess if it is a trustworthy or credible source

Randomized cross trial, not controlled. With self reported dietary behavior and self reported exercise behavior.
That means you go home, live your life, go to the clinic and drink the can. Wait. Take measurement and they ask you what did you eat? Unless they were all people on a diet who wrote down exact weight I doubt they knew exactly what they ate in quantity.
It was good they made a cross trial, but they needed a controlled trial. I'm not saying it's worth nothing. But not too precise.
