hello to all us here. I am reading and nodding my head like a bobble head on the dash. Yep yep yep LOL
So much inspiration it is just oozing out from your words!
AF again last night so it is a rolling AF 10 in a row and 15 for the month. Today we are having family over for DH birthday (celebrating a day early). I am really on the fence if I want to have some of the wine I had planned for lunch/dinner or not. I know me and if I start there is no slow down until I go to bed tonight. Then there is the dreaded trying to sleep on Sunday night AF....just putting this down in words has pretty much talked me out of it but then I have not had to face the pressure of family this month. Fingers crossed I have the wisdom to do what I can live with tomorrow.8 -

APPLAUSE to the fellow hitting 444 days!
@MissMay
Trainer said protein useful for satiety, craving elimination, replacing lost muscle, filling in those areas of loose skin, and hormone production. For me, consuming it within an hour of exercise, not more than about 20g. at a time. There's a calculation somewhere that factors in lean body mass weight and activity level to calculate one's target protein ranges.
Warning- my dietitian said the protein source matters. Protein is inflammatory and animal protein usually brings with it cholesterol and saturated fat. She wants me on stuff like: 5 egg whites with salsa, fish, peas, lentil soup, all types of beans, lean chicken and turkey, grass fed lean beef, real soy (not isolate or manufactured), shellfish and cheese in limited amounts. Nuts max tiny handful daily as this is mostly fat. She added to pair the protein with a healthy fat like omega-3 or with olive oil and healthy veg.
most of my MFP friends who do have open diaries - eat WAY more protein than i do. i found just adding extra egg whites to my every other day omelette was so much more satiating. i'm making it a point to do this. not like i'm getting rid of carbs any time soon tho
19 AF days this month. happy weekend all9 -

Interesting name for a tea ... Gin & Tonic.
And no it does not taste like my summertime beverage. LOLLilylady3k wrote: »Opened one of the tea advent calendar days that I skipped back in December.

well THAT'S the ultimate tease if it doesn't taste like that!5 -
@Lilylady3k What @MissMay said. You have been under tremendous stress. 3 pounds and 2 glasses a night should be considered battle scars in this battle against Mother Nature (and corrupt leaders). You've done so well and you will bounce back stronger than ever after being able to care for yourself.6

@mainelylisa - Thank you for the encouragement.3

@lmlmrn very funny comment you made " I am reading and nodding my head like a bobble head on the dash."
I would say be aware with your goal limit at yiur husband's birthday gathering. Try not to over think it. That can drive you crazy and it can set you up for going over your goal because it stressed you out. Your doing so well in your less drinking journey.6 -

Well hello @sw33tp3a_11. I am happy we were suggested as a place you can get some support and motivation.6 -
Once again, thank you everyone for sharing.
Sunday morning here and I have had an AF weekend so far with the intention that today will be AF as well. I have been AF at home since starting on this thread. Had one glass of wine when I went out to dinner on Thursday night. Am meeting some friends on Tuesday night, the intention is to have one or two wines only.
I joined a gym late last week and found myself there on Friday evening, I had the whole place to myself. I went that evening to distract myself from contemplating buying a bottle of wine for home. It worked and I had a great workout which I took easy because it was my first gym workout in quite some time. Next gym session is planned for Monday evening.
Today will be housework and a walk this evening. I am a pretty good procastinator so I am pretty sure there will be some reading of a book before I decide to tackle the housework

I don't moderate well either, its generally all or nothing. Wishing you all the wisdom you need to get through and wake up with a sense all is well with your world.5 -

@mainelylisa here's the workbook. Chapter 6 was the key one for me. Enjoy....
@lisamestiza2021 I came across a faux prosecco - Gruvi - shows it's sold in Canada on website well.ca. Don't know if it's good. I ordered a faux champagne and bubbly rose - Senorio de la Tautila brand - from a US website. It's a gamble but the sugar content seems low. Expensive fake but I wanted to get it to treat myself for when I hit AF for the month next Sunday.3 -

@tiptoethruthetulips - It had an odd taste. Maybe it was the name that put it in my mind but it was a light green tea (my favorites are black teas) and oddly had a tonic flavor without the fizz or sweetness. I like tonic but not this. Not my favorite tea.
The description on the Fortnum & Mason site says Gin & Tonic Tea "green tea with real juniper berries and handpicked botanicals including coriander, fennel and lemon balm"
The cup was a present from a friend. It is from Starbucks

@dew11252 - ((HUGS))
I'm with you tonight ... 2 more glasses of wine. DD & her husband brought us bottles of wine as a thank you since they are staying with us for a few nights. Their condo is okay but a couple of condos in their building unit have major leaks so the water is shut off to all of them.5 -
Hi all!
Skiing was a bit of a bust yesterday. Great conditions, got in a bunch of good runs, but then all of a sudden I started getting this weird spasm in my sternum that radiated into my back and up my neck. Any exertion getting down the mountain gave me a blinding headache, so we cut the day short. It was weird. Not the right place for a heart issue, and I usually don’t have problems with acid reflux.
Well, in the middle of the night I finally thought to take some Tums,and it all went away. Must have been the crappy coffee at the hotel!
At any rate, two glasses of wine yesterday but spaced out so I didn’t feel the effects. Friday night was hot sake with our yummy Japanese meal at the restaurant.
I find I can control my consumption much better at a restaurant. I’ll only order one glass of wine. Here at home is more of a challenge to not pour that second drink.6 -
didn't make it AF today😒
Instead of focusing on not being alcohol free yesterday. Tell us At least ONE positive thing yesterday you did do 😊😊😊.
We can help you approach it slower by possibly having one less glass per week to start, or if your up to it, one less glass a day to start?
Little steps,give huge results, for lasting success.

Last night was my planned once a week, drink day.
Kept it to my not more than 2 drink goal.
20 days of February -
A- 3 days
AF - 17 days

Day 21 AF for me, day 13 AF for husband. My infant wine devil kicked up a fuss Saturday night so I had 2 zero alcohol Moritz beers with tons of lime and he shut up and went to sleep after the first sip or two.
Practicing:
-Thinking in the present. I have thousands of non-AF days - but in the past and the past is gone and the guilt went along with it.
- "Catching" negative thoughts that get in the way of my motivation and flipping them around to a positive to train my thinking.
Positive thinking is fuel for motivation. I need a certain dose of this daily.
Negative thinking is dangerous. I think in negative terms less and less the more AF days I log, so hopefully that means my logical brain is healing and gaining strength and taking over control from my "wine devil" limbic system part of my brain that acts like a fussy 2 year old.

@Tesha231 you posted 20 lbs weight loss and 68 days AF? I missed this earlier. Like WOW, awesome progress.....so you know...you are motivating me bigtime!
8 -
@globalhiker I actually started with Dec 14 as my first AF day so the overall number probably is higher as I lose track on the daily count. I know it will be 107 AF days on Easter when we finish our Lenten buddy challenge!
LOOK at YOU though. Gosh—21 days feels great, doesn’t it? I actually remember my 21st AF day because I got that number confused with the milestone number in Sandra Bullocks movie 28 days— so it made me want to make it to 28 days...and so on BUT you are the one motivating me and likely most on this thread right now. Love your posts sharing what you are learning, applying it to your situation and subliminally encouraging the rest of us to try it. Your posts help me tremendously!
PS. The pounds did not drop from not drinking alone. In fact I experience very little drop by going on AF streaks. It taken nearly a year to drop 20, so I expect at least 6 more months to drop the last 10.10 -
@globalhiker -- what @Tesha231 says! I am still plodding away at the workbook, time just seems to get away from me but I do like the exercises
yesterday went well I thought with family. My brother texted me 2 hours before meal time to ask if my ex SIL could come too...well yeah...but then this kinda sent me in a tail spin. Only for him to show up alone 45 min late. Long story short I did have 1 glass of wine I nursed for 2 hours then late in the eve 2oz of whiskey with water. But I am still 15 AF days this month. I am aiming now for 15AF days in a row.14 -
The power of exercise is amazing. I was feeling like drinking yesterday afternoon. I decided to go to the basement and do some spazzy dance moves mixed with weights. Well I even considered having a drink before doing that. Why? Who thinks like that? So I could have more fun dancing? I did not, and had a good time. I dosey doed with 2 poles. All urge to drink drained out with sweat. And I felt emotionally great I'd been good to my body.
I was not AF last night, however. But it was DH who said, "Shall I pop the cork?" Such confusing messages from him sometimes. I said yes, and we had a romantic evening, sharing a bottle, with fish tacos made with fresh caught Toag (not my fav--thus lots of jalapenos and slaw ;-)). Didn't sleep well, and don't feel 100% today. But do feel good I drank to enjoy it with someone, and not to escape something.
18 out of 15 planned drinks this month11 -

Hi
I originally decided to drink less in order to lose weight.
I have been on this thread since Nov 28.18
Thank you to @MissMay for keeping us going.
I am going to post with my usual diary style to keep track of my AF days.
I will be keeping to my usual goal of 16-20 AF days per month. It is manageable for me and doesn't put too much pressure on me. So far I have been able to keep with it. One month I raised the goal and failed miserably, so I learned from that. I think this is my sweet spot.
My rule for myself: No drinking 2 days in a row, strive for 2AF days in a row in between at minimum.
Friday Feb 19 - AF - Drinks and Pizza planned for tomorrow.
Saturday Feb 20 - Drinks and Pizza. I had the leftover 1/2 can of spicy Mott's Caesar from my fridge, then had beer with the pizza and a mixed drink after. The pizza had bacon, ham, and sausage on it (amongst other things) so I drank copious amounts of water with splashes of juice I was so thirsty.
Sunday Feb 21 - AF - I will be tomorrow also to get my 2AF days in a row.
Rolling total 15AF days out of 21 days9 -
@globalhiker I also have been reading the recovery workbook that you gave us the link to. It is very good. Thanks for sharing. And as @Tesha231 said, YOU are highly motivating all of us.
@CMB44512 your on fire there Bud. Such a short time ago in January when you said you would TRY to have your first non alcohol day. Determination, support and accountability are great tools to help you get to where you want to be.
@mainelylisa what time are your dance classes around the poles? Another spit coffee out my nose moment when I read that part of your post. I fully agree on exercise being a mood regulator. I am loving the new workout program by Cathe.
Maybe that is what DH wanted all along, for the two of you to share the bottles or drinks in moderation together?
Our days are gathering more light up here in the Northeast everyday. Proving that Spring will be here soon, no matter what that over sized rodent predicted.
@CryingBlue 20 for 21 excellent. 👍👍
My day/evening was alcohol free again.
The sun came out beautiful and bright yesterday. Despite it being under 30° and breezy. I set up my patio chair on the snow free deck and enjoyed getting some vitamin D and cool fresh air in my lungs. Watching and listening to the birds, and I could hear hikers laughing in a distance on near by woods trails.
Simple things make me happiest.
