Less Alcohol - FEBRUARY 2021 - One Day At A Time

Hi
I originally decided to drink less in order to lose weight.
I have been on this thread since Nov 28.18
Thank you to @MissMay for keeping us going.
I am going to post with my usual diary style to keep track of my AF days.
I will be keeping to my usual goal of 16-20 AF days per month. It is manageable for me and doesn't put too much pressure on me. So far I have been able to keep with it. One month I raised the goal and failed miserably, so I learned from that. I think this is my sweet spot.
My rule for myself: No drinking 2 days in a row, strive for 2AF days in a row in between at minimum.
Sunday Feb 21 - AF - I will be tomorrow also to get my 2AF days in a row.
Monday Feb 21 - AF - Very early workday start tomorrow, so AF tonight. Always happy to see my 16 : - )
Tuesday Feb 23 - Drinks. I enjoyed them, but eat completely differently when I have alcohol for sure.
Wednesday Feb 24 - AF - Trying to not have drinks 2 days in a row.
Thursday Feb 25 - Drinks (2) - Broke my 2 days AF in a row rule for myself. Planned drinks for Saturday, so AF for Friday for sure.
Friday Feb 26 AF - Quick month!
Rolling total 18AF days out of 26 days3 -
Day 27 AF for me, day 19 AF for husband. We agreed last night that life felt "chill". We got ourselves into a good place, calm and content, so we're good with keeping it going.
I tried AF faux bubbly rose Senorio de la Tautila and actually it was the best AF drink taste-wise so far for me.
Smelled like the real deal, looked like it, tasted like it, had the "zing" on the tongue feeling like real wine, sweetness level just like regular bubbly rose. It was well made. The downside is the price tag (an import), not avail in stores just online. The other downside is that it can make you seriously gassy if you drink too much of it! Still I would buy it again maybe as a gift for a pregnant or nursing mother or for when people come over and I need an special AF standby.
I got their AF white wine bubbly too but that one arrived spoiled (normal for Arizona due to heat and sun) so I chucked it.
Time to finish my coffee and get to work making today a great day...:)4 -
2 glasses of wine with a shrimp broccoli mushroom pesto pasta dinner last night. Do you ever feel like you deserve the indulgence of wine? That is where my head was last night after doing a deep cleaning of the camp inside and out. But I stopped at 2 glasses did not join DH in the additional drinks of bourbon & 7up.
Side note: My mom had no reaction or issues after her second shot of the vaccine. She is just a little more tired than usual.5 -
@forestdweller1 sorry you had to go though this tough spell but the good news is that you survived a heart attack and on the "mend", as challenging as that can be.
@Tesha231 I don't think you're weird, my husband still has a real double IPA on the top shelf of the fridge and he said he needs to see it there daily because it makes him feel powerful not touching it. LOL.
Me, I am the total opposite. If I bought a real bottle of wine now, I would consume it now. Same with chocolate, quality parmesan and mozzarella, tortilla chips, and ice cream. I am so addicted to all this stuff!5 -
Happy Saturday, LA People! I'll be posting a link to the March thread tomorrow--be on the lookout!
22 out of 15 planned drink this month.5 -
@Tesha231 I don't find it odd at all to have the alcohol in the house, I need it there for me to say no I really don't want that now.....but and you knew I had to have a but....as long as it is 'unopened' I won't open it. Well at least not without a lot of internal debate.
So last night I did make the decision to have a few drinks last night. We stopped at the store and DH picked up a bottle of wine and some scotch. With dinner I sipped 1 glass of wine that I kept adding tonic water too...(it was not too bad actually) Then when that was finished I switched to scotch and tonic water. I had 3oz of that and yep I measured. So still rolling 20 AF days this month and will finish the month with 22 AF days. I am ok with that.7 -
Checking in. I did not stay af last night. I bought a beer and a little carton of wine and drank them both.
Rolling total 25 out of 27 days af. Thinking about buying the same for tonight while I'm out.6 -
Recover Saturday for me today.
I'm not sure how drinking went out of control last night for both my GF and I. We both got a little comfortable with receiving a bottle of rum as a gift yesterday.
Next thing we knew it was half gone and so were we. Been a while that my head has pounded this hard. A grim reminder.8 -
2 open bottles of wine. I enjoyed 1 glass of red wine and 2 glasses of white wine. DH poured me another glass of white which I put in the fridge. I'm not drinking four tonight.7
-
Pizza and wine tonight, guess my running total for the month will stop at 21 days AF, but still better than last month at 18 days AF6

Went up to a mountain town today where they still had some ice on a community rink.
Soooo beautiful out.
The ice could not have been more perfect.
You can see the ski hill behind me. I think that this will be my new profile pic for awhile : - )

Geez Dawn that ice-skating habit of yours looks good on you. And you love it too, such a win-win!
Can't sleep and woke up at 1:30am. UGH not again. It's the damn full moon shining into my every window and the coyotes outside are howling away.
AF day 28 here, day 20 AF for husband. Feeling good although my tummy is hungry all the time. Zero thoughts about running out to buy alcohol for a Saturday night, it's kinda nice. Of course my addiction shifted to food and I ran out and got some thick steaks to grill instead.
After today I think I may have set a personal record of a complete month AF .9 -
@dawnbgethealthy great pictures! Look at that pristine ice! Even more amazing is you have the place to yourself!
@mainelylisa thanks for taking over the continuation of this thread. I guess today is your first big test- how to create the March link! @MissMay, thank you so much for keeping it going, and for all your welcomes to new people to the thread. Your encouraging words mean so much.3 -
Bad week- got upsetting news and I reached for drinks even though I didn’t even want them. That starts the spiral of no sleep, exhaustion each day, more drinks over my one drink limit, etc. In addition I’ve had long frustrating days at work (stupid computer problems. Ugh!) Plus, I haven’t exercised in about a week and a half, so my weight is shooting back up, and I’m achy. By yesterday I was emotionally and physically exhausted.
So, I am putting myself back on the horse. Today I am definitely exercising and will log my food again, and ONLY HAVE ONE if I have any today. Although AF is looking really good.
Here’s some good news: connected with a long lost cousin from Germany, and have been doing regular zoom calls and texts. It’s wonderful.
Also, shock of all shocks, hubby finally , finally agreed to getting a sailboat!!!! I’m thrilled and. can’t wait for summer.5 -

Yeah, well at least you’re getting enough protein with those yummy steaks! Maybe that’s what your body is really hungry for.
Congrats on 28 days AF!7 -
Good morning! I'll post March thread tonight so we don't give people anxiety with conflict of where to post the rest of today.
New accomplishment. DH asked if I wanted to split a Prosecco last night and I said, "I don't think so." Who am I?
I got very grumpy yesterday trying to figure out how to implement Google Analytics. Part of a bigger issue of not doing well when I can't do something completely by myself without asking for help. Not the right state of mind for alcohol.
OMG @dawnbgethealthy You are such an amazing Ice Queen! (I mean that in a good way :-)) You inspire me to ...well not LOVE winter, but not hate it quite so much.
@globalhiker You're on an amazing streak--and how great to be on it with DH
@Womona Wonderful about connecting to your cousin. And sailboat!!! (Remind me where you live again...muhahahaha!7 -

Wishing you and your gf a speedy recovery and yes, a reminder. That's part of why I didn't drink with DH last night. Even 2 glasses would put me in a semi-crap feeling this morning, and I'm increasingly getting intolerant of the consequences...but it's been a LOT of consequences to get this far. I hope it was at least a fun time.6 -
Hi gang, last day of February 2021. WOW THAT WENT FAST.
I am on extremely limited internet access. In fact decided to drive all the way to this Dunkin to hook into theirs so I could post here.
Thanks for all the sweet words. Lisa, for now, will take great care of setting up our thread monthly. She and I did talk and tossed around the idea of letting everyone that posts regularly have a turn at setting up the thread for a month or so at a time. It is OUR thread, no one persons in particular to own. So think about whether you might lke to be a monthly creator in the future to give others a chance to be in the limelight.
My tally for February was very good for the goals I set. I am very happy with them and very happy to be able to stop at one or two. LONG LONG LONG time to get there. But worth it. I was even able to get in drinking ONE beautiful chocolate martini twice during February without thinking I would keep ordering two, three or four.
AF - 23 days
A - 5 days
Be well, see you all over on the new March thread (when I can hook into internet access)

Was not alcohol free last night and the scotch almost got away with me, at drink 3 (yes 3) it was getting21 late and I still thought I felt fine, no effects but knew enough to say to myself "you need to stop and go to bed." and I did. Only to wake at 4am wide awake after only a few hours sleep. Normally I would just lay there and 'relax' but not this morning. I got up went into another room so I would not wake DH and played games on my phone until 6:30 when DH got up. He was worried he kept me up. I will be AF tonight
January (1st time on this thread and trying AF-was so so so scary)
AF - 19 days
A - 13 days
February
AF -21 days
A 7 days
March Goal
AF - 25 days
A - 6 days
@MissMay I do hope you will check in when you can!
@mainelylisa can't wait for the new thread sometime today
@dawnbgethealthy I don't quite know where you live but it is beautiful there. I am not sure I could do that much snow but the skating part looks like soo sooo much fun
@Womona sounds like you had a rough few days but are back on track now....and a sailboat. I want to come to your place this summer LOL
@globalhiker wow a new personal best for the month that is such an accomplishment. proud of you
back later or tomorrow on the new thread

OK Y'all...well of course I forgot my personal computer at the cabin, so did start the March thread, but may need to add back in a few proper resources tomorrow, as I'm not sure it all rendered properly.

@dawnbgethealthy - Love your new pic skating with the ski runs in the background.
@globalhiker - You and your hubby are doing great!!! Adding up the AF days!
@mainelylisa - Thanks for the new thread.
@MissMay - So glad to see you remotely checking in for our end of the month tally!
@lmlmrn - Good job cutting yourself off!
@Womona - Do you live on water or near water? If so where? A sailboat will be such a fun diversion during the summer!!
@chocolate_owl - How was your hubby's birthday weekend?
@CMB44512 - Onward to March! Curious if your GF is a daily drinker ... I think I remember that she is not. After the gift of rum and the hangover ... did you have the hare of the dog or get out to walk or something to clear the head?4 -
This month goal is to eliminate my beer consumption as it always leaves me feeling bloated. Limiting my alcohol intake to only once a week. Sticking to wine or less caloric spirit. Wish me luck 🤞4
