I was way, way behind... it has been a crazy few days worrying over, taking care of and cleaning up after the Vizsla on very little sleep. I have read thru and liked and hugged along the way!
I have had the same impression as most of you regarding the user names.
@Tramboman - I also thought it had a connection to trombones
@Avidkeo I thought had to do with being enthusiastic and from New Zealand (keo=kiwi I guess)
I definitely make the same connection between @TheMrWobbly and Weebles
@rheddmobile I thought had to do with some kind of a red hanging art piece
@polskagirl01 because she lived in Poland but I really didn't make the America connection.
@noblsheep intrigues me but I always thought it had to do with the Chinese Year of the Sheep
@hanlonsk - I think of as a merge of first and last names maybe (Hanna?)
@HonuNui is a sea turtle or large sea turtle I think
Mine is a merge of my first name (Shana pronounced Shauna) and part of my last name
I am on the board for March with 4.5 miles yesterday, mostly walking fast but some bits of running when the hamstring allowed. I took Hobbes just around the neighborhood and he wasn't much for it. He is finally eating again after a rough weekend and spending much of Monday at the Vet office. It was scary to have him not eat for 3 days, this is the dog who rarely turns any food down which may be part of the problem. They found inflammation but no blockages or masses so hopefully a few days on a bland chicken and rice diet along with meds for the inflammation, will have him back to his usual goof ball self.
I also got the results of my MRI from the Sports Ortho doc yesterday while I was out. NO TEAR!! Yay! Did a little Happy Dance right there on the trail! I do have pretty severe tendonitis and will be seeing the PT with the objective of getting back to pain free running. He did not see any issues preventing me from running again.13 -
@shanaber I'm glad Hobbes is eating again. Hopefully he will be back to normal soon.0
-
@rheddmobile Good pictures. I love the one's that taped their shoes on their feet. Too funny!
@shanaber Great news on the hamstring front! I'm glad Hobbes is eating again and hope he gets better soon!1 -
Sorry I'm skimming quickly but happy birthday @Camaramandy648
Great news on no hamstring tear @shanaber! And glad to hear Hobbes is eating. Scary when they are sick and can't tell us. Hope he is all better soon.
Everybody good job and keep up the good work.
Date :::: Miles :::: Cumulative

03/02/21 :::: 2.1 :::: 5.2
03/03/21 :::: 3.1 :::: 8.4
A last minute work mini-crisis almost derailed it but managed a chatty 5k with a friend today late this afternoon. The crisis seems to have mostly resolved so I'm glad I didn't cancel my run for it.7 -
March Goal: 100 Miles
3/1: 1.32 miles
3/2: 5.32 miles
3/2: 5.32 miles
11.96/100 miles completed for March
It was chilly again this morning, but it was really nice. It was clear and the stars were out. I ran the same 5.32 miles as yesterday. As I was coming home the sky was just starting to get a little light at the horizon and it just made me feel happy.
@shanaber That is great news about Hobbes and the hamstring. I hope both are 100% better soon!

My interpretation of user names matches up what to everyone else perceived. I’m one of the non-creative people. What about @hanlonsk? No idea on that one!
Hahah @shanaber is pretty close. I am also one of the Non creative ones. And it is technically a merge of names. And I was NEARLY named Hannah. But my folks decided that Hannah Hanlon would be a bit too much.
I haven’t ran. But, this weekend I decided I needed to use my National Park pass one more time, locally. Even if it was snowy and cold. And if I can remember how to do this, insta post will be in spoiler.
However... yak tracks were already in a box, which proved to be problematic. When this picture started, I was looking at the tower....9 -
March Goal: Hike/Run the "D's" and "E's"*
3/1 off
3/2 2.50 Djibouti
3/3 2.61 (no travel-video kept buffering....)
Total 5.31
@shanaber glad that Hobbes (and you) are feeling better. Correct on the "big sea turtle." Add "luahine" and it's big, old lady sea turtle....
@hanlonsk WOW, great pictures!
*So, my 2021 resolution is to hike/run all 193 (or 195 depending on your source) countries of the world this year. This could be difficult, since I don’t have a passport. But YouTube to the rescue! I have been using the site to take train “trips” recently, and have found them strangely motivating. Why not use Youtube vlogs to hike/run the world (and learn something about each country)?

@shanaber Good news for you, and I’m glad Hobbes is better!
@hanlonsk Great pictures!
Awful headache yesterday, I’m thinking from the pollen, although I’m not sneezing or congested really. No workout last night. Taking tomorrow off since I accumulated so much extra time on call, so I can get in a good run then.7 -
I decided to do my long run today, 22 km, and knock out my March HM-distance run and my 40k for the week all at once, so I can start trying to cycle after a couple of wintery months off. Those first few weeks back are always rough, but add in that I don't have standard routes that I'm used to here yet, and there are hills EVERYWHERE, so I'm looking forward to the weeks AFTER the first few weeks, when I feel a bit stronger on the bike. The good news is that my cycling fitness seems to come back faster than my running fitness.5
-
Also random, but my current running shoes (Brooks Ghost 11 and Asics Gel Windhawk) are still going strong - no "switch me out" niggles yet, and it's been 973 and 589 kilometers. Typically I get signs that they need rotated out much, much sooner. The Asics are getting a little hole on one side, but I feel fine running in them. I remember @PastorVincent used to wear his shoes forever, but that never used to work for me. I have new shoes ready to switch to when it's time, and I am paying careful attention (so much that I may even start imagining things that aren't happening soon) but I think I'll ride this out and see how long they go.6
-
@hanlonsk Great pictures. It took me a minute to realize what that last one meant. It's early and my brain isn't awake yet. I hope you are okay. When are you moving? I agree with your parents Hannah Hanlon is a bit much.
@marisap2010 I hope your headache went away and you're feeling better today.
@polskagirl01 That's great news on the shoes. Enjoy getting back into biking and exploring new places to ride.

@shanaber Good happy for both you and Hobbes! Hope you both are on your way back to 100% soon.
@hanlonsk Love the pictures!
6.2 miles this morning. Had great weather (mid 40Fs, light wind), but it felt soooooo hard for the first 6 miles, and my pace was really slow. Guess that means my run on Saturday will be great 😏
5 -
3-1 7k slow
3-2 7k easy
3-3 7k easy
3-4 7k slow
March Total: 28k
March Goal: 150k
Love all the pictures and the good news!!!
Yesterday remained sunny, and it got up into the low 50s F in the afternoon, so I took my tools of ignorance (aka golf clubs) and went to the driving range to hit some balls. Late in the afternoon, my wife and I saw five robins hopping around in a gum tree; so the robins have officially arrived.
This morning's counterpoint consisted of cloudy, low 30s F, with some light snow driven by a northwest wind. Gotta love spring in northeast Ohio.
When you pop in here claiming your December 2021 mileage, what accomplishments will you have made?
PUT THE FUN BACK IN THE RUN!
Return to a good running weight of 175 lbs (second attempt)5 -

@ContraryMaryMary i love this so much!
Thanks to all for all the birthday wishes!
Yesterday was one of the very worst birthdays of my life. For lots of reasons.
Didn’t want to celebrate anything because everything had was cumulative and by the end of the day, i just wanted to crawl into bed and stay.
Did some race prep stuff.
Watched a show with my son.
Today, the kids go to their dad’s and my dog goes to a friend’s so i can leave town after work tomorrow with no hassles.
I have a dinner interview tonight, which i hope goes well but what Id REALLY like is to finally hear back from the job I have been gunning so hard for. The one I’m doing right now .... man. I just don’t know. Still grateful for employment and irons in the fire.
It’s good to read your posts and I am I proud of all of you!9 -
4.05 this morning. It was an easy run and I went slower than goal pace but it felt right. 12.7 miles so far.
Tomorrow I go after work and then get up and go Saturday then again 6 hours later then get up and go Sunday morning. YAY Yeti training!6 -
@shanaber Good news on the hamstring!, and happy that Hobbes is better.
Happy Birthday to everyone celebrating one!
I did run On Monday to start the month and it went well. However, yesterday I woke up and my Morton's Neuroma on my right ball of foot/toes (the part where the toes connect to the ball pad) flared up. It felt like needles poking. The last time this happened the only thing that helped was a shot. I tried to walk/run v slowly but was too much.
So I just got on the bike. Feels better today, but I can feel it. Not sure what caused the flare up. It was literally like I went to sleep fine, and woke up with it acting up. What happened overnight I do not know.
Could be my shoes, as they are over 400 miles, but not probable. Either way new shoes are needed.
I'll see how the foot does in the next couple days otherwise might have to visit the Sports Doc again.
Names - haha funny reading some of these. Thanks for the laughs.
Happy running everyone!

Didn’t have time to run yesterday.
Hoping to get a short run in today, probably on my elliptical since I won’t have time until pretty late4 -

@Tramboman I'm glad you and your wife BOTH saw the robins. Now it's official that spring is on the way. Hahaha about the tools of ignorance.
@Camaramandy648 So sorry that you didn't have a good birthday. Good luck with the job you want and maybe you can celebrate your birthday this weekend at the race.
@RunsOnEspresso Good luck with the Yeti training. It sounds intense.
@hamsterwheel6 I hope your foot gets better without having to go to doctor.

3/1 - 2.75 miles - 3.6 mph - Treadmill walk
3/2 - 2.00 miles - 3.6 mph - Treadmill walk
3/3 - 2.00 miles - 3.5 mph - Driveway laps
3/4 - 2.70 miles - 4.5 mph - First run/walk after surgery on the rural road near home
March total: 9.45/62 miles
Today was a day of new beginnings....if you believe, as Steven King wrote, that "sooner or later everything old is new again."
Coincidentally, it is the 4th of March. If you remember my post when I walked in honor of my dad on his birthday, I explained why the 4th is such a big deal in our family.
I worked at the daycare for 4 hours. I did what they call the floater job - served lunch, did the dishes, and then relieved some of the teachers for their breaks while the kids napped. A lot of the younger kids are new to me, but the older ones are mostly the same. I was actually surprised at some of the ones who remembered me. All of the 4 year old's wanted hugs and all of the 5 year old's wanted to tell me things. I sure have missed that. I am scheduled to work this job every day next week.
When I got home, I went for my first RUN after surgery. I did take it really easy, walking 4 minutes and then running 1 minute. I ran the last 2 minutes so I wasn't finishing my distance with a walk. My running pace was between 11:03 min/mile and 10:03 min/mile. That may have been faster than I should have gone, but I felt like I was running at an easy pace. I'm sure had I been running much longer I would have had to slow down.
Mom and dad had told me they wanted to buy me new running shoes for Christmas. After dad died, mom insisted that I go ahead and order them and that "they" would pay. It's the last gift dad will give me. I ordered them after my surgery and have had them since the middle of January. I didn't open the box until today - when I was able to try them out. They felt a little different, but I think they are going to be great. Picture below the spoiler.
It was a beautiful day here. It was 59°F, sunny, with a 15 mph wind when I went out for the run. The wind was a little much at times, but at least it wasn't cold. Below are a couple of pictures from my run.
The daffodils are blooming. This is across from my mom's house.
Almost at my turn around point.

@quilteryoyo so happy that you got to run for the first time since your surgery! And running in the new shoes that your mom and dad bought was extra special.3

Thanks @Scott6255 ! I thought so too.1

Exactly this! So happy for your progress and that you had that special gift of the shoes.
Sorry to be short on time again, everyone. I will try to catch up with you all better soon.

@quilteryoyo So happy for you getting to run again!!!!!1

Hooray for @quilteryoyo getting to run again! It sounds like you're being smart about it, too
I woke up to snow and wet roads, so went for an easy run instead of cycling. Not quite 6k. Tried out a path I saw in a little patch of woods, and turns out it goes up a hill and then just stops. Fields, brush, deer, and when I tried to make my own path back, realized it had put me on the other side of water from the road and I needed to find a place to cross. Oh well, I'm used to my feet getting wet.6 -
So glad you were able to go for a run @quilteryoyo!1

I have to say, even though I don't respond a lot, I do read and you all are such a positive, upbeat bunch and I love it. I love the motivation. I did the challenges 2 years ago, but then "The Year That Will Be Forgotten" happened.
So:
March 3 - 3.11 miles
March 4 - 3.11 miles
March 5 - Today will be some spin and strength
Total for March - 10.22 miles
Goal for March - 70 miles
Miles to go - 59.78 miles10 -
Thanks everyone! I'm not sore this morning. Not yet anyway. I'm hoping to run every other day the rest of the month and slowly increase running times. I am really blessed to have done so well after surgery. It still amazes me.
@polskagirl01 Glad you are exploring new places to run and don't mind getting your feet wet. You'll have to use that trail for an out and back.
You are doing great @pfeiferlindsey ! It's hard to be consistent again after a long break.7 -
3-1 7k slow
3-2 7k easy
3-3 7k easy
3-4 7k slow
3-5 7k easy
March Total: 35k
March Goal: 150k
Sunny, low 20s F, and a west wind today. Saw a couple of robins, some squirrels, and a pair of geese.
@quilteryoyo Happy you can run again, and now you have special shoes as well.
When you pop in here claiming your December 2021 mileage, what accomplishments will you have made?

@quilteryoyo yay for the running and I love the shoes.
Am up early, about to do 14k. I don't know why in a bit nervous I ran 21.1 only 2 weeks ago lol and I enjoy long runs. I'm running this one around home, rather than the foreshore, maybe that's it. There are more hills at home. And I'm still a bit sore after playing my first game of indoor netball (think basketball without the bouncing or back board) on Wednesday. Very different from running, and excellent cross training!5
