Tomorrow is race day so I had a short shake out run this morning. The weather is looking like it will be pretty good tomorrow morning! Low 50’s with reasonable humidity, partly cloudy. I’m glad it is cooperating. I’m still nervous about this run because I don’t feel like my training is T’d up as well as it usually is before a HM. I know I can do the distance but I’m nervous about how it’s going to feel. Anyway, I’ll be back to tomorrow with an update either way.
@quilteryoyo Congrats on getting back to running!
@shanaber Glad Hobbes is feeling better.8 -

3/5 - 2.00 miles - 3.6 mph - Field walk
March total: 11.45/62 miles
It's a little bit chilly today, especially compared to yesterday. Still sunny, but 45°F with a breeze that made the feels like 41°F. Needed long pants and a jacket for walking. It would have been nice without the breeze.
@martaindale Good luck with your race tomorrow. I'm looking forward to hearing all about it.3 -

I decided to try Parkrun for the first time. I've never gone before because I used to do my long run on Saturday mornings, but now I'm doing it Friday I can go. I turned up right on time only to find a few people milling around, then it dawned on me there is NO parkrun today since we're still in Level 2 restrictions which limit the number of people in one gathering to 100. Everyone that turned up decided to run anyway, so my first parkrun is "unofficial". I enjoyed myself nonetheless, it's an absolutely stunning day, perfect for running
Thanks for the birthday wishes everyone!
@quilteryoyo Yay on getting the all clear to start running again and for your cousin getting out of hospital
@rheddmobile Those photos look like the race would've been a blast
@shanaber I hope Hobbes feels better soon, I've also been at the vet with my cat who I now have to administer pills to twice a day plus oral meds
@hanolonsk Great photos!
@polskagirl01 Awesome job knocking out that HM so early. I've never been able to get very high mileage out of my shoes. Asics I'm lucky to get 400km, but my New Balance and Mizuno I can usually get around 700km at a stretch.
@hamsterwheel6 Sorry about the foot pain, I hope it doesn't get worse
@Camaramandy648 Sorry about the sucky birthday
@martaindale Good luck on your race!5 -

@martaindale Enjoy your race!
@kirstymn That's great that you tried Parkrun, even though it wasn't official. I really enjoyed it, for the few months I got to do it in my previous city before you-know-what happened. Hopefully you'll get to experience the real thing soon!
@rheddmobile sorry you have to sit out the races, that looked like fun. I don't know if it's any consolation, but you're doing a great job making your own fun and finding ways to do the races yourself.5 -
Morning all!
14k done this morning. I didn't really want to go out, I decided to embrace the suck and just do it. And as always I really enjoyed it. I was out at 630am, and the sun was just rising. The weather was a bit breezy and the occasional spit of rain but nothing serious. After I got home, it decided to give in and embrace the rain. The heavens opened and down it came. I was a little disappointed because I love to run in the rain.
After that I packed the car. Its a 3 day weekend here, and I'm working out of town. Leaving the kids with hubby and come to a small town 1hr away to work in the small rural hospital here. What this means is I work 11-3 sat, sun, Mon, and am on call u till 9am tues morning. So basically available to work the whole weekend.
Work put me up in this little studio flat at the entrance to the hospital (it's about 30 yards from the door to my flat) and is fully self contained.
I'm actually looking forward to this. The work is generally pretty easy, I have bought along with me my sewing machine, some cross stitch, and my laptop. I'm going to relax, and craft, and watch a lot of crap on netflix/YouTube. And probably be bored out of my tree and missing my kids by 7pm tonight.
Going to be an interesting weekend!11 -

My husband and I the 10k trail race of our personal winter race series yesterday, following the course of the Winter off-road series 10k.
We had a nice day for it! Two weeks ago we were boiling water because half the pumping stations were frozen, yesterday I ran a race in a singlet and was overheated! Not used to 73 degree weather yet! Crazy!
It looks like we did a fairly good job in matching the conditions of the official race so I can compare times. I know we started and stopped at the exact correct mark because the places where the start and finish were are still torn up. I can mostly tell which parts of the course were wet at the time of the official race by looking at where it’s churned up with muddy footprints, and it seems like it may have been a little drier yesterday, but mostly the parts that were wet were wet, and the parts that were dry were dry, unlike Monday when we previewed the course after a soaking overnight rain and it was ALL standing water. Also their temperature was 73 F too, although theirs was overcast and we had direct sunlight which made it feel hotter running the long crosscountry mile down the open field. I got a little bit too much sun on my shoulders and forehead!
First I’d like to report that the day after the race I have ZERO PAIN in the hip that’s been bothering me! Yay! And it didn’t bother me during the race itself. My quads feel beat up from bombing the downhills but other than that I feel great.
We are really out of shape though, compared to previous years of doing this race series. This was my worst time in three years, and we had to take several brief walking breaks. Ended up with a mile time of 12:05 (assuming the course to be 10k which it isn’t quite) compared to a PB of 10:47. However! The good news is that it seems like everyone else was out of shape too! If I compare my time to the official results, I would have been third in AG, directly behind my doppelgänger, who was right in front of me on this course last year, and right in front of my other benchmark, the lady I am usually slightly faster than. So it seems like I am holding my own in proportion to other people in my local running community. If I were entered in the series and had these times, I would now be 2nd in AG - really fourth but the fastest two are up for master and senior master awards - which is comparable to years past - one year I took 2nd and next year 3rd in the series. It ends up being good for my morale comparing my times to the official race times, because even though it felt to me like we were crawling along barely making it, it seems I am doing about as good as should be expected.
Had my husband take a couple of staged “finish line” photos. I would have done the same for him but he was all done for the day. It really does take it out of you going from 0 to 73 degrees without time to get acclimated!7 -
@rheddmobile yay well done! Love the pics, absolutely beautiful, and yay for no pain.0
-
@kirstymn I'm glad you enjoyed your unofficial parkrun!
@Avidkeo I hope you can enjoy your weekend rather than missing your kids and being bored. It sounds like you are well prepared. I also hope there aren't many after hours emergencies.
@rheddmobile So glad you were pain free during your run and are now! That's great news! You are doing great in the series. It's good that you have those comparisons so you can see that you are doing better than you think you are. These huge changes in temps does take a toll. Love the photos.1 -
Great job @rheddmobile! You and your husband are doing fantastic in your race series.
@martaindale Good luck in your REAL HM race!
And I think @Camaramandy648 has a race this weekend too. Good luck to you too!2 -
March Goal: 100 Miles
3/1: 1.32 miles
3/2: 5.32 miles
3/3: 5.32 miles
3/4: 5.52 miles
3/5: 1.40 miles
18.88/100 miles completed for March
I was so busy at work yesterday and then so tired yesterday evening that I didn't even post my run and I am horribly behind on the thread too. So I will post today and yesterday's runs and then go back and try to get caught up.
Yesterday I ran 5.5 miles. I was going to just run the same 5.3 I ran the last 2 days, but a song came on my playlist that made me want to keep running so I ran past my house and looped back. It was a pretty good run, but the weather was annoying for me. It was too chilly to dress cool and too warm to dress warm. It wasn't terrible weather, but I was expecting it to be a little warmer so I guess I was just disappointed that it was still kind of cold out.
Today's run was pretty nice. I only ran 1.4 miles since it is technically a rest day, but since I am doing a streak challenge for March I am running at least one mile every day. The challenge may be just keeping my "rest day" runs to one mile. It kind of seems like a waste to get dressed for a run and then barely get going and it is time to stop. The weather was nicer this morning and I was able to wear shorts and a t-shirt, but my ears did get kind of cold so it is probably good that it was a short run.
Yesterday morning I saw a skunk on my run and then today I saw another one. The skunk yesterday was going into a drainage pipe and I don't think he saw me. I think the skunk this morning saw me because he was rooting around when I saw him and after I passed him I looked back and he had his tail up. But I think he was just being cautious in case I came back his way.

So glad you are running again @quilteryoyo and I love the shoes!
Great "race report" @rheddmobile!
Good luck on your race tomorrow @martaindale and @Camaramandy648!0 -
Another 4 today. Broke out the shorts. 82° is too warm for March 5th. Guess I gotta get used to it!
16.70 of 137. Reached 200 for the year with today's run as well (203.1 to be exact)6 -
Good luck on races tomorrow @martaindale and @Camaramandy648 !!! Can't wait to hear the reports.
Great work @rheddmobile. Love the photos.
@avidkeo enjoy your weekend! Even though you are working, sounds very nice.

Very indecisive today about the running plan. I debated all the options - rest day, outside run, treadmill, morning, afternoon - and ended up going to the gym in the late afternoon and hitting the treadmill. I was really going to run outside but the wind was crazy and it felt much colder than the 30 degrees that my car told me.
My trainer and friends started their 4x4x48 (4 miles every 4 hours for 48 hours) challenge at 8 pm tonight and i had a twinge of regret not doing it. When I got to 4.8 miles on the treadmill I took a pic and sent it to them as my solidarity run but then of course I had to finish out 5 miles anyway. I'm pretty over my regret now because I don't have to get up at midnight to run in the freezing weather. I am sure they are going to be ok and feel very accomplished and proud, but I'm liking being warm in my bed all night.
Tomorrow should be a long run but I'm also planning a snowshoe hike so we'll see how long I go. Again, it's supposed to be super cold.4 -
March Goal: Hike/Run the "D's" and "E's"*
3/1 off
3/2 2.50 Djibouti
3/3 2.61 (no travel-video kept buffering....)
3/4 off
3/5 3.11 Denmark
Total 8.21
*So, my 2021 resolution is to hike/run all 193 (or 195 depending on your source) countries of the world this year. This could be difficult, since I don’t have a passport. But YouTube to the rescue! I have been using the site to take train “trips” recently, and have found them strangely motivating. Why not use Youtube vlogs to hike/run the world (and learn something about each country)?

Great running @rheddmobile and husband!
Excited to hear how the other racers do this weekend.
I plan to relax today, maybe tomorrow too! Might go for a bike ride with the kids later, we'll see3 -
@Good luck today, @martaindale!
@rheddmobile Great race report!
Hope you have an enjoyable work weekend, @Avidkeo.
Migraines kept me from doing much of anything Wednesday or Thursday, but I took yesterday off work and got in two miles after I got home from visiting my parents for the day. I have body pump this morning, but a friend has agreed to do some of a local school’s cross country trails with me after. She doesn’t love running though, so it will likely be some sort of run walk combo.

@kgirlhart The weather these days does make it hard to know how to dress. Glad the skunk decided to ignore you. I get you on feeling like one mile is not worth the effort. I guess that is a problem with streaking.
Nice @RunsOnEspresso . That is pretty warm for March.
@katharmonic I, for one, think you made a good choice. A warm bed over running in the cold at midnight wins in my book every time.
Have a fun day today @polskagirl01 ! Sounds like fun.
@marisap2010 I hope the migraines are gone and don't come back. Those are awful. Glad you were able to take a day off work and hope you enjoy your run/walk today.4 -
Sorry about the migraines @marisap2010. They are so miserable. Hope you enjoy the cross country trails.

I managed to get a long run done this morning. It was 19 degrees, feels like 10F, but fortunately the wind was not terrible for most of the route. And we met up close to my house so I could roll out last minute. My friends were doing 12 miles today but I had to cut it shorter. I'm heading out in a little while to go snowshoe hiking because that was not enough cold weather for me - better get to a mountain where it's even colder! I'm thinking this might be winter's last hurrah (optimistic?) so I'm taking advantage and not complaining (too much).
Have a great day all!8 -
3-1 7k slow
3-2 7k easy
3-3 7k easy
3-4 7k slow
3-5 7k easy
3-6 7k measy (between moderate and easy)
March Total: 42k

Sunny, low 30s F, and a northwest wind today. Just ran well for some unknown reason, unless it was the chocolate I ate last night...
When you pop in here claiming your December 2021 mileage, what accomplishments will you have made?
PUT THE FUN BACK IN THE RUN!
Return to a good running weight of 175 lbs (second attempt)7 -

10 miles this afternoon, but absolutely horrible run. Had to walk after every mile practically, and I was running very slow when I was actually running. Just felt so tired and legs felt like lead. Something is going on with me, just don't know what.

For March I want to build on my February goal of completing Couch to 5k.
March goals:
Run 100kms (62 miles)
Build to 5mi long run by the end of the month.
Good luck to all of you and I'll see you at the finish line.
March 1 - March 5: 17km. Long run is at 3.9 miles and Couch 2 5k is finished!11 -

@katharmonic Hahaha You must really love that cold weather. Those temps are a little cold for me to run in, especially with a wind. Hope you enjoyed your snowshoe hiking.
@Tramboman It was definitely the chocolate!
@Scott6255 I hope your next run is a lot better! Good for you for sticking this one out. Have you changed anything that you know of nutrition, hydration, or sleep wise that could be the culprit?

Total for March - 4 miles
Goal for March - 70 miles
Miles to go - 66 miles
I have to say, even though I don't respond a lot, I do read and you all are such a positive, upbeat bunch and I love it. I love the motivation. I did the challenges 2 years ago, but then "The Year That Will Be Forgotten" happened.
So:
March 3 - 3.11 miles
March 4 - 3.11 miles
March 5 - Today will be some spin and strength
Total for March - 10.22 miles
Goal for March - 70 miles
Miles to go - 59.78 miles
My huge goal this year is to get my base back that I lost last year. Before 2020, I was averaging 1000+ mile years and last year, I barely got to 600. So, my base is shot.
I ran 5 miles today without walking and felt totally amazing the entire time. Super happy with how it went and I have no doubt that I'll get to my goals this year. March goal is to get up to 6 miles comfortably and I'm sure I can do it.
March 6 - 5 miles
Total for March - 15.22 miles
Goal for March - 70 miles
Miles to go - 54.78 miles

Nope, that's the frustrating part. Nothing is different in my life. Maybe just getting old.5 -
So I did 49 minutes this morning for 4 miles (was supposed to do about 45 minutes) then 6 hours later I went back out for an hour, which I thought I would do 5 miles.
Nope.
It was 82° out. I took several walk breaks. Ended with 4.55
So 8.55 total for today and 25.3 for the month7 -

3/2: 5.32 miles
3/3: 5.32 miles
3/4: 5.52 miles
3/5: 1.40 miles
3/6: 1.2 miles
20.08/100 miles completed for March
Today's run was a short and quick (for me) 1.2 miles. My pace was 8:46. I rarely run that fast. It was a gorgeous day too so I also took my dogs to the park and walked a mile which is a lot for them now that they are both pretty old. It should be nice again tomorrow too so I am hoping that my long run will be really nice.
