@martaindale - It's tough when that nausea feeling hits you anywhere in a race but one mile out sucks! You finished though and with a great time even if not a new PR. You do know now that it is a possibility. Were you fueling with anything newish that you hadn't used on a run that distance previously. Also as @rheddmobile said did you drink or eat anything that would replenish your electrolytes (NUUN, Skratch, Tailwind, etc.)?
I was eating my usual clif bloks on my usual schedule. I've been using them for over a year without issues for long runs. I hydrate well beforehand and typically just drink water during, even in the summer when I am sweating way more than I was for this race. The electrolyte replacements I have tried don't sit well with me if I take them while running. I usually replenish afterwards. I'm really not sure what to blame it on. And, since I don't plan on any more runs quite this long until much later this year, I'm probably not going to worry too much about it unless it happens again.5 -
Running club went decently well. They were doing "easy" for them, which means "tempo" for me. One other girl wasn't feeling well, so I welcomed the chance to cut it short and head back with her. We still got 6 km, so not bad at all7

Hi! So it's been a while. 18 months or so since the last time I ran and probably 2 years since the last time I posted to this group, but I've been following the Facebook page and I recognize a few people still.
I've signed up for a virtual 5K in May, and I'm completely deconditioned. So my goal for March is to walk 5 days a week until the last week of the month, and then start C25K on around the 30th. Goal for the race is to complete 5K by doing a mix of walking and running.
I have a long term goal as well. I've challenged an online friend, who is rehabbing from a broken ankle, to a destination race in mid 2022 (COVID permitting). Ideally a half marathon, but we will play it by ear depending on his recovery and how fast I regain my former fitness level.13 -
@martaindale - I think the Bloks have electrolytes too, so maybe just one of those things that happens sometimes.
@polskagirl01 - I read somewhere that you should run with faster friends once in a while to improve your pace. So maybe the end result will be faster paces for you in the future?
@sarahthes - Welcome back! I have wondered how you were doing! Did you know that @skippygirlsmom also broke her ankle? For a minute there when I read your post I thought maybe she was the friend you challenged to a destination race, well until you said 'his recovery' 😁5 -
@shanaber I didn't realize how you started running. I love that story. I'm glad your hamstring and Hobbes are doing better. The challenges that your insurance has sound great. I wonder how many people who don't already exercise actually start because of that? My guess would be not many, but I guess just one is worth it.
@polskagirl01 Soon that pace will be easy for you too!
@sarahthes Welcome back. It sounds like you have a very reasonable plan to get to that 5K distance. I like the run/walk method. I do that most of the time, especially on my long runs - well, I did and will again once I get there again. That's all I am doing right now as I am coming back from open heart surgery to repair an aneurysm.

3/1 - 2.75 miles - 3.6 mph - Treadmill walk
3/2 - 2.00 miles - 3.6 mph - Treadmill walk
3/3 - 2.00 miles - 3.5 mph - Driveway laps
3/4 - 2.70 miles - 4.5 mph - First run/walk after surgery on the rural road near home
3/5 - 2.00 miles - 3.6 mph - Field walk
3/6 - 3.00 miles - 4.6 mph - Walk/run on rural road
3/7 - 2.00 miles - 3.7 mph - Field and driveway walk
3/8 - 2.25 miles - 4.0 mph - Walk/run on the driveway
3/9 - 2.50 miles - 3.6 mph - Treadmill walk - ladder
March total: 21.2/62 miles
I got up early in order to get my walk in before I went to work today. I wanted to stop at mom's afterwards and knew I wouldn't have time to do that and walk too. Turns out I really wouldn't have, since I worked an hour longer than planned.
The ladder I did today was 3.5 to 3.8 to 3.5 mph with five minutes at each step, except I did 10 minutes at 3.8 mph. I really felt like it should have been more than 3.6 mph, but that's not what the math showed, and whose going to argue with math?3 -
Welcome back @sarahthes. Good to see you, it's been a while!
Good to see you check in also @Faebert. It's hard to not feel down these days, especially with all you've dealt with. Good for you for trying to get back into things and I hope it all helps.
@polskagirl01 well done on getting out there to run club. It definitely helps me to push myself with faster people once in a while.
@shanaber I'm glad you a running a little bit and hopefully you'll get started with PT soon. I also laughed at the idea of "I don't know what these are for, but I want to earn them" incentives. Ha, I would probably do the same.
Good job on your early walk/ladder today @quilteryoyo.

No run today. I also had to miss yoga this morning to get to work early. But I did go to mace class so I got a workout in. My biceps are really feeling the last two days.
Tomorrow is supposed to be almost 60 degrees! I am looking forward to a nice afternoon run.6 -
March Goal: Hike/Run the "D's" and "E's"*
3/1 off
3/2 2.50 Djibouti
3/3 2.61 (no travel-video kept buffering....)
3/4 off
3/5 3.11 Denmark
3/6 3.10 Dominica and Dominican Republic
3/7 off
3/8 off (!)Rain. Solar hub went out. Rain. Hard to justify using treadmill when your solar powered house's solar power is absent and because the hub is not working, unable to determine if the generator is actually generating.....16 inches (um, that's 1 1/3FEET) of rain since 5pm Sunday. And that's not counting all the rain on Saturday and during the day Sunday.3/9 3.12 East Timor, El Salvador (also tried an Egypt vlog, but it was a dud and I will find another.....)
Total 14.44
*So, my 2021 resolution is to hike/run all 193 (or 195 depending on your source) countries of the world this year. This could be difficult, since I don’t have a passport. But YouTube to the rescue! I have been using the site to take train “trips” recently, and have found them strangely motivating. Why not use Youtube vlogs to hike/run the world (and learn something about each country)?

Really great to see you back!

Have skimmed. So much happening!
I did 5k this morning. Just a nice gentle base run. Friday I do 8k at race pace. Have played with the pace setting on my watch and will try that on Friday. Should be interesting.
I've decided I'm going to upgrade to a Fenix 6s. There are a few features I really like. But I have to wait. Money lol. I figured there might be a good sale at Easter, if not I might wait till after my June HM, a reward for a sub 2hr eh. Now THATS motivation!6 -
March Goal: 100 Miles
3/1: 1.32 miles
3/2: 5.32 miles
3/3: 5.32 miles
3/4: 5.52 miles
3/5: 1.40 miles
3/6: 1.20 miles
3/7: 10.02 miles
3/8: 1.43 miles
3/9: 6.02 miles
37.55/100 miles completed for March
I'm behind on the thread again. But I did get my runs in yesterday and today. Yesterday was a short 1.4 mile run. It was a little chillier than I expected, but it wasn't too bad for a mile. Today was almost perfect weather. It was windy, but other than that it was nice. There was a beautiful crescent moon both mornings too. Today I ended up running 6 miles. I wasn't really planning to run more than 5, but it was so nice I didn't want to stop.
2021 Races:
4/24/21: Run For The Children 10K
11/6/21: Run For 57th AHC Half Marathon

WELCOME BACK @sarahthes !!! It's great to "see" you again.2
-
Yesterday was my body pump class, but I got in a mile on the treadmill before class started. We have great weather this week, so I am looking forward to the rest of my runs.4
-
I took it easy today, which meant running until I realized I was going too fast again and then walking a little bit, on repeat. My legs were on some faster running kick, but the rest of me (the part that breathes, for example) wasn't impressed.
Then I moved more stuff around & out of my way in my home gym and am a few steps closer to finishing it up. I'm mainly now waiting on deliveries (lockers might take a while) and weight machine reassembly. And then details like hanging up my medal rack. I might cover another wall with my race numbers, not sure yet.
Anyone else find that you've got all sorts of energy to do things when you're supposed to be doing other work?
ETA the shoes! They now have 1,000 km on them as of today! And they feel fine! The bottoms hardly look worn - maybe all of the forest running? So weird.
I'm actually kind of afraid to put a brand new pair into the rotation now, because if it's not broke, don't fix it...7 -

I bought my Garmin in late May/early June last year on a Father's Day sale so hold out a little longer!5 -

Uneventful morning run. Weather was a nice 31F. Planning on going walking with a co-worker at lunch because it’s supposed to be another nice day.
Welcome back @sarahthes!
@HonuNui – I heard on the news about all the rain and landslides in Maui. I wasn’t sure which island you were on or if you were affected. That’s a lot of rain!3 -
Welcome back@sarahthes!
Hope you can stay dry @HonuNui!
@polskagirl01 sounds like your running club is having a positive effect on your running (at least your legs feel like they want to go faster ). Your home gym sounds like it is coming along nicely. And I'd keep wearing those Brooks if they aren't bothering you. I too hate to get rid of a good pair of shoes.
Signs of summer already; 63F at 5am, 18-33mph wind. But felt pretty good compared to the last couple of runs. 1st 3 miles felt a little stiff and awkward, but last 3 miles felt a lot better.
6 -
Wow @HonuNui ! That's a LOT of rain! I can't even imagine. I hope your power is back up soon!
@Avidkeo That is great motivation for a sub 2hr HM! Maybe you could pay yourself for every training workout that you complete - $5 per maybe, and set it aside each week. Then it won't feel like a big hit at the end and you'll be motivated to complete your training too! I've done that with running before and it really worked - to save up for something I want but don't necessarily need.
@kgirlhart Love the runs that feel so good you don't want to stop. That doesn't happen with me very often.polskagirl01 wrote: »I took it easy today, which meant running until I realized I was going too fast again and then walking a little bit, on repeat. @Scott6255 Glad your run felt better than they have been lately.

Sunny, mid 40s F, and a breeze from the south today. Snuck out while my wife was working out, so got to wear shorts and a short sleeved tech shirt. Ran my fastest 7k since last September. Caught some nice trout yesterday as well.
When you pop in here claiming your December 2021 mileage, what accomplishments will you have made?
PUT THE FUN BACK IN THE RUN!
Return to a good running weight of 175 lbs (second attempt)6 -
Nice @Tramboman ! Congrats on your faster 7K in a while. Do you eat the trout that you catch?0

Did an easy recovery run this morning. Legs feel good! I went for a walk Monday morning because it's usually a run day for me and I was feeling the need to be active. Then yesterday, I got a massage, and that really helped to work out some residual soreness. Before anyone gets excited, I've been fully vaccinated since January and I still wore a mask the whole time and so did the massage therapist.

@Tramboman I think it's funny that you sneak out so your wife won't make you overdress. It's like a kid that runs out to play before mom can tell them to put on a jacket! 😆😆6

In retrospect, I should have kept one to eat. I do catch and release unless fish injury dictates I keep it.3 -

Figgered me out...4 -
I remembered to eat something before speed work today so it went much better than last week LOL
4.75 today and 34.3 for the month so far7 -
@Teresa502 but that's not till September! I want my new toy now (insert verruca salt gif here) @quilteryoyo that's a great idea. Might try that. One advantage of garmin is they have great resale value so should get something for my old watch towards it. Actually September is probably a great time, it's a month before the Auckland half, and Easter will probably be new shoe time.
No run today. I forced myself to do a 30 min stationery bike ride. Tomorrow is 8k at HM race pace. Gonna try the pace notifications on my watch.4 -
@HonuNui - So.Much.Rain!!! I hope it has eased up for you and could you please send some our way? Hope your power is back too!
@polskagirl01 - I wore my favorite shoes (multiple pairs) to well over 700 miles (1100km) until they were literally falling apart so I would say keep going in them as long as you aren't feeling any discomfort anywhere.
@AlphaHowls - how many total miles are you up to now? Have you made it all the way around yet?
@Tramboman - love some trout! My favorite especially from really cold waters! You don't see it much here and when you do it isn't very fresh.
@avidkeo - Father's Day in the US is in mid-June... just saying maybe you can jump on an online US Father's Day sale?
So we had pouring rain this morning and first eye check ups in over a year (2 for me because of no insurance). I am still hoping to get at least a short run in before it decides to rain again... It is cold and windy so I am not as excited to get out for a rain run. Mostly the storm that was supposed to bring us really heavy rain all day today and tomorrow has pretty much fizzled out. We did have a couple of good downpours that resulted in mudslides in some of the recent burn areas and canyons but now just very cloudy, cold and windy.5
