    @shanaber I didn't realize how you started running. I love that story. I'm glad your hamstring and Hobbes are doing better. The challenges that your insurance has sound great. I wonder how many people who don't already exercise actually start because of that? My guess would be not many, but I guess just one is worth it.

    @sarahthes Welcome back. It sounds like you have a very reasonable plan to get to that 5K distance. I like the run/walk method. I do that most of the time, especially on my long runs - well, I did and will again once I get there again. That's all I am doing right now as I am coming back from open heart surgery to repair an aneurysm.

    3/1 - 2.75 miles - 3.6 mph - Treadmill walk
    3/2 - 2.00 miles - 3.6 mph - Treadmill walk
    3/3 - 2.00 miles - 3.5 mph - Driveway laps
    3/4 - 2.70 miles - 4.5 mph - First run/walk after surgery on the rural road near home
    3/5 - 2.00 miles - 3.6 mph - Field walk
    3/6 - 3.00 miles - 4.6 mph - Walk/run on rural road
    3/7 - 2.00 miles - 3.7 mph - Field and driveway walk
    3/8 - 2.25 miles - 4.0 mph - Walk/run on the driveway
    3/9 - 2.50 miles - 3.6 mph - Treadmill walk - ladder

    March total: 21.2/62 miles

    I got up early in order to get my walk in before I went to work today. I wanted to stop at mom's afterwards and knew I wouldn't have time to do that and walk too. Turns out I really wouldn't have, since I worked an hour longer than planned.

    The ladder I did today was 3.5 to 3.8 to 3.5 mph with five minutes at each step, except I did 10 minutes at 3.8 mph. I really felt like it should have been more than 3.6 mph, but that's not what the math showed, and whose going to argue with math?

    Yesterday was my body pump class, but I got in a mile on the treadmill before class started. We have great weather this week, so I am looking forward to the rest of my runs.

    March 2 – 5.07 miles
    March 3 – Exercise Bike (7 miles) + strength
    March 4 – 5.35 miles (morning) + 3.05 miles (evening – hill repeats)
    March 5 – rest
    March 6 – 12.01 miles
    March 7 – Hiking – 2.27 miles – 1340 elevation gain
    March 8 – 5.18 miles
    March 9 – 3.34 miles
    March 10 – 5.18 miles

    Uneventful morning run. Weather was a nice 31F. Planning on going walking with a co-worker at lunch because it’s supposed to be another nice day.

    @HonuNui – I heard on the news about all the rain and landslides in Maui. I wasn’t sure which island you were on or if you were affected. That’s a lot of rain!

    Wow @HonuNui ! That's a LOT of rain! I can't even imagine. I hope your power is back up soon!

    @Avidkeo That is great motivation for a sub 2hr HM! Maybe you could pay yourself for every training workout that you complete - $5 per maybe, and set it aside each week. Then it won't feel like a big hit at the end and you'll be motivated to complete your training too! I've done that with running before and it really worked - to save up for something I want but don't necessarily need.

    @kgirlhart Love the runs that feel so good you don't want to stop. That doesn't happen with me very often.
    I took it easy today, which meant running until I realized I was going too fast again and then walking a little bit, on repeat. My legs were on some faster running kick, but the rest of me (the part that breathes, for example) wasn't impressed.

    Then I moved more stuff around & out of my way in my home gym and am a few steps closer to finishing it up. I'm mainly now waiting on deliveries (lockers might take a while) and weight machine reassembly. And then details like hanging up my medal rack. I might cover another wall with my race numbers, not sure yet.

    Anyone else find that you've got all sorts of energy to do things when you're supposed to be doing other work? :D

    ETA the shoes! They now have 1,000 km on them as of today! And they feel fine! The bottoms hardly look worn - maybe all of the forest running? So weird.

    I'm actually kind of afraid to put a brand new pair into the rotation now, because if it's not broke, don't fix it...
    Hahaha That's what you get for running with the running group! I am always doing things other that what I really need to be doing. I'm with you on the shoes too. If they aren't hurting my leg and aren't falling apart, I see no reason to retire them.

    @Scott6255 Glad your run felt better than they have been lately.

    In retrospect, I should have kept one to eat. I do catch and release unless fish injury dictates I keep it.

    @Teresa502 but that's not till September! I want my new toy now (insert verruca salt gif here) @quilteryoyo that's a great idea. Might try that. One advantage of garmin is they have great resale value so should get something for my old watch towards it. Actually September is probably a great time, it's a month before the Auckland half, and Easter will probably be new shoe time.

    No run today. I forced myself to do a 30 min stationery bike ride. Tomorrow is 8k at HM race pace. Gonna try the pace notifications on my watch.
