20 pounds to lose challenge April 1-July 31

I hope everyone had a safe and happy 4th of July! I have lost no more weight and I guess I am in maintenance for a while. I've kept off about 8 lbs and will just have to be happy with that for now. There are a few stressful things going on for me personally and I am finding it hard to care about my weight or looks. I need to focus on eating healthy, yes, but as that applies to self care in general. We are going to a nice hotel with a pool today and I am just going to bring my book and chill out and drink some mock pina coladas. How can this not help? Have a good day, Friends!10

My name is Donna and I am 61 in May. I live in the Midwest of the USA. 5' 5" tall. My starting weight was 253. I have relapsed in the past year and need to get back on track. I am type 2 diabetic and in remission for breast cancer. Health is my #1 priority.
My goal in this challenge is to lose pounds and land firmly in Onederland.
I would love to join! Here are my weights so far:
Start Weight: 207.6
Goal Weight: 187.6
Ultimate Goal Weight: 145-155 (I’ll know it when I get there!)
Apr 01: 207.6
Apr 05: 206.6
Apr 12: 207.4
Apr 19: 206.0
Apr 26: 204.0
Apr 30: 206.2
May 01: 206.6
May 03: 207.4
May 10: My Birthday! 208.8 I am celebrating this upcoming Sunday with family. This new higher weight is from travel and bad choices. The buck stops here!
May 17: 206.8 I’m happy with this after multiple day celebrations. I chose better than I thought or it is going to catch up with me. We shall see which.
May 24: 210.8 Wow. 4 pounds in one week! Can you tell that my daughter and DGS moved back in? This is going to be difficult!
May 31: 206.4 Better than last week. I worked hard for it. Praying for continued success.
Jun 01: 205.6 A nice way to start the month.
Jun 07: 204.2 Clearly I’ll never make the 20 pound loss but a girl can dream, right?.....Onward for any progress this old girl can get. Good health is the overall goal and continued weight loss is a huge part of that plan.
Jun 15: 201.8 This has been a good week for me. I am down quite a bit overnight due to a very low calorie day yesterday. Today I will increase them but with all thoughtfulness to my plan.
Jun 21: 199.0 Onderland by a thread. I don’t want to drop this ball. I will focus in the short-term on getting it a little further away from the 200 mark.
Jun 28: 197.6 I had to cancel trip today. I was so sick yesterday evening and all night. A little better today but not 100% Possible gall bladder or diverticulitis attack, probably from too many almonds day before yesterday. Horrid pain. This is a big overnight drop on the scale. Probably from such little eating yesterday (it hurt too bad) and from dehydration. We’ll see what the next few days bring as this is probably a little lower than my weight realistically is.
Jun 30: 196.4 Back in the saddle and doing good. Feeling much better. Wow, the tummy pain was horrendous! I have no idea what was wrong, but I won’t be eating handfuls of nuts again as a snack! Weight has been going great. I probably lost the extra pound due to the 24 hour illness I had so we’ll see how it keeps panning out. In the meantime, I continue with good clean eating habits and try to stay away from sugery snacks! I am down 11.2 pounds since the start of this challenge. Pleased as punch!
Jul 01: 197.6 Scale shows an uptick after the low recorded weight following the tummy illness. I suspected that would happen. This weight is likely where I am really at. Now, time to get moving! I don’t envision myself making original goal but I can see myself making more progress. Time to make my vision a reality!
Jul 05: 198.0 Up a little bit after some travel. To make up for that, I didn’t let the holiday steer me off course. Working it back down and doing well with that. Today I will make another day count. Many very severe stresses this week. I can’t let that pull me down or swallow up my progress. Staying the course!

I am so sorry to hear about the loss of your kitty. Those are the sad times in life that you will never forget. Thankfully the memories carry you through.
Thank you @deepwoodslady .... Last year it was my beloved black Lab. A year today actually😟I have a new kitten who is almost 5 months now and he has helped, though it broke my heart to see him looking for his 'big sister' kitty after.
Anyway many thanks8 -

Didn't meet my goal this month but was only .8 away so I'll still take that as a win! Seemed to plateau for awhile mid month. Total loss of 4.4lbs this month and just shy of a 25lbs loss since I started in March. No complaints! On to our final challenge month!
@Annawan24 You are doing wonderful!!!!6 -

I seem to be at a holding pattern, due to not really adhering to MFP at least a couple days a week🙄
But I'm ok with the number on the scale for now as they are not too bad all things considered!!
Still shooting for 150 at the very least for end of this month.
Have a great week All🙂

After being at our cabin away from internet, MFP and my scale for a week, I’m happy to see just a small gain. I’ll be away on vacation for another week. With a long drive, visiting with family, eating and drinking without tracking on MFP and likely not regular exercise, I’ll be aiming for maintenance. My plan is to not snack between meals, not eat/drink anything excessively, and to choose veggies and fruit whenever I can.

Went to the doctor today; the nurse said she'd take 3 pounds off the weight to account for clothes... I said How about 10 pounds off?
Anyway, My body is a bit screwed up at this moment with a physical problem; nothing too bad, but definitely going to give myself some slack. I've maintained the same weight for two months. Good enough for me.
I talked to a lady who was part of OA. (overeaters anonymous) Anyway, she's been active with that for years. She is thin and healthy. She said to think of only three food items you want to give up and then work on that. (instead of a category). Interesting idea.11 -

@RubyRed427 recently mentioned the idea of focusing on three foods you want to give up and focus on that.
I’ve done something similar, banning certain foods except for “special occasions”. It has helped a lot. But is something I need to ban altogether and forever .. bread and butter. I ❤️ warm fresh bread with butter. As my grandson says, I SUPER love it. And I overindulge.
Just last night I overindulged. 😔
I gave up Diet Coke 4 1/2 years ago and have always been so thankful I did. Not a sip since. Today I am swearing off bread with butter. No more. Done.
I will allow myself bread for the occasional sandwich and I will use occasional butter, just not together. It’s addictive for me, just as Diet Coke was, and I don’t want to risk undoing my efforts of the past six months.9 -
It's rainy and cool here today so no swim, trying to find a to find a less wet time to get a walk in. Hope you are all having a good day6

I decided I am going to accept my body as it is. I am 57 years old. I am never going to be young and as thin as I had hoped again. I am doing what I can for my health now, not a number on the scale. I feel peaceful with this decision. I will continue to move (walk etc) and be mindful of my food choices but I am not going to diet. It's too hard and doesn't work for me and leaves me despondent. I need to feel gratitude for my health and life instead of despair over my weight. It just is not working for me that way. I wish everyone here success on their own personal journey13

Just remembered next summer is my high school reunion. So, I have one year to get into better shape. That is doable. I also watched a really endearing documentary on imbd called Skid Row Marathon. There is a judge who feels that he wants to help addicted person, so he formed a running club on Skid Row. He runs with the homeless participants; the only rule is they must be sober. To be in the shelter, there is a strict zero tolerance policy, so those who run with him are sober and serious. The benefits are many and he raises money to take these runners to different marathons around the world. IT was such an uplifting documentary. It makes me believe once again anything is possible.
Last evening, I went for a 3 miles hike in the woods near a bubbling brook. It was good for the soul. I also jogged here and there. Will need to work slowly towards running again. I used to run a few years ago and was quite fit and weighed 30 pounds less. But it is so hard on my knees which is why I stopped.6 -

Yes, warm bread and butter are the best. I super love it too.
My real downfall is sugar. Gummy bears, gummy lifesavers, cookies, chocolate---- so that is what I'll give up "sugar". I also created a "clock" on nomo which is an app where you create a clock. I have one for alcohol free living and now one for sugar free living.
I was alcohol free for 270+ days in a row, so being sugar free is equally doable if I put my mind to it.6 -
Do you guys pre plan your meals/calories? Or just eat and log your meals? I've been just logging and adjusting my snacks around my calories, wondering what everyone else is doing.5

Hello all,
I was just released from the hospital. I've had a hiatal hernia for some 35 years, and finally had it repaired this past Thursday. I had it repaired because lately I started having a serious side effect from it. The side effect put me in the hospital three times in the last 3 months. Ironically, it's quite likely that my weight loss, coupled with the hiatal hernia, is what allowed the side effect to begin happening. That should be in the past now that the hernia has been repaired.
Some of you may know that last July 10th, I started on a journey to lose 100 pounds in a year. Today is the end of that year. Although I didn't quite make it, primarily due to the medical issue, I did pretty well. And I intend to keep going. I had scheduled a DEXA body scan for yesterday, but cancelled it. The idea was, see what my body fat percentage was at the end of that year.
There's a website, futureme.org, that let's you write letters to your future self and specify a delivery date. I had forgotten, but I was inspired to do just that last January. Today, I was surprised to get this email from myself--written on January 22nd. Here it is:
"Dear FutureMe,
What a struggle this has been. I am currently heavily tempted to enjoy some sweets. I hope you have reached our goal. If so, please have a dessert for me (but only if it's within our calorie limit).
If you haven't reached 230 pounds yet, don't give up. Keep going. I haven't sacrificed these past 7 months just to give up at the end.
Are you going to start maintaining at 230? Or is it possible to keep going? I guess that all depends on what the body scan shows.
Good luck!
- Your PastMe"
I think that's a pretty cool idea, I recommend it to everyone. Send your future self a letter. Let him or her know that you're "in this together".12 -

Frank, I hope you feel better soon. You have had a successful year overall- a lot of weight loss. You also gained in terms of your health and not hopefully the surgery fixed a serious issue for good.
I like your Dear Future me letter!!

@frankwbrown glad you are out of the hospital, and hopefully recovering comfortably at home. Your weight loss over the past year is incredible, and inspiring to follow.6

Good morning friends! I rejoined a walking challenge for six weeks; it starts today. I took two months off because it was too much pressure to walk each day- no matter what. Now, I feel rejuvenated. I also got a great result of a biopsy that I had done last week. I feel lighter already.
Now, I can get back to business and focus on my health and wellness.
Like @JenT304 , I found a video on youtube of affirmations. I listened to it the other day twice and it seems to make a positive difference in my anxious feelings. https://youtu.be/ZssjZnsN4Gg7 -

Changing our behavior, eating better, increasing physical activity is a process. It takes time, and there are stumbles, but today is a new day. Happy Monday!12
