Today my arm is a wee bit achy, but its just like the flu shot felt like. No biggie.
Dressed in my size 3X stretch pants, and long sleeved shirt, waiting until we go to the gym. I should do some weights, the treadmill, and I hope my pants stay up. I should have gotten a 2X ah well.
Hugs!

Annie: I’m happy that your mom decided to trust you about the week old roast.
Rebecca: I love the planting a garden message from Audrey Hepburn. My garden is small but well loved. Marauding deer, not so much. I haven’t seen them yet this year. :flowerforyou:
Terri: Congrats on getting your second jabs! You are lucky to be able to meet with your daughters and grandsons.
Nicole Pulver: Best advice—measure portions, count calories & move more. Let MFP set your calorie goals. As you lose weight the amount of your portions will get smaller. Stop in here regularly for friendship and support.
Lisa: Regarding the weather girl—change channels and complain to the station about inappropriate clothing. :grumble: You may be cranky but you’re quite a bit younger than me. I don’t think you’re an old woman yet.
Heather: Thank you for your sympathy. We have both been vaccinated twice with the Pfizer vaccine. The vaccine will not give us confidence for a multiple thousand-mile road trip. A couple of years ago I went to visit my daughter & DH stayed home. DH has multiple health issues and doesn’t want to fly anywhere. The kids would like us to drive our RV but that isn’t likely at this time. Every time we go somewhere in it, we have to have it repaired. :ohwell: My solution is to buy airline tickets for the kids so they can come here. We may be able to do things that way. Here’s hoping!
Gwen from MO: Welcome!
Machka: I hope you are able to stay safe in the wind.
Kathleen MVP: Welcome! Best advice—let MFP set your starting calorie goals. As time goes along, your allowed calories will be reduced. Move more-choose activities that you can do now. Walking is a good beginning. Stop by here often to give and get encouragement. :flowerforyou:
We have a beautiful morning. I hope to get some exercise with DH. Perhaps I can convince him to go for a meander in the neighborhood. He can ride his mobility scooter and I can walk beside him with the dog. Yesterday we were treated with wonderful birdwatching from our own window—two Bald Eagles and two Osprey were the main show. Our lovely little hummingbirds are always here.

The tent that I bought yesterday for Max's birthday has gone up by £20 overnight. !!!!!!!!!!!
Luckily I got it at the old price. I might have thought twice had it been the current price!
Lucky me!
It's being delivered tomorrow.
Expecting the painter any minute. He is such a nice guy. A one man band.
Barbara - I decided on falafel and humus. Flat bread, salad, yoghurt etc. I made a quick coleslaw just now with a few left over bits. I'm very happy because it's one of my favourite meals, but DH isn't as keen on it as me. He will eat it, but it's not his favourite thing.
When we got back from our very long walk with Bea, I said, it's takeaway fish and chips tonight, or it's the above. That's what he chose, so win for me.
When I was buying all the spices etc in the Mediterranean shop, the owner asked me if my husband was Egyptian.
I spent a happy half hour decanting all my new spices. I also had a delivery of spices from Amazon. One decluttering job I need to do is sorting out my spice cupboards. It's hard to find stuff and remember what I've got.

Last Tuesday evening I kept thinking my glasses were smudged. But washing the glasses didn't help. The next morning I had my routine 6 month eye checkup and the doctor right away told me I had a detached retina and several tears. He said it was too technical an operation for him to do but he got me into an eye surgeon who does surgeries like mine everyday. Tomorrow I have my 1 week check up. I'm lucky it was caught early and the surgeon believes I will retain the sight in my right eye. Until 4/21 I have to lay on my left side and can take breaks to go to the bathroom and eat meals.
Wishing everyone well. Love the pictures of the grandkids. Welcome new gals. Lisa, agree with your rant. :-)

Weird rant for the evening, upon watching the meteorologist who is dressed in a skin tight, white dress that literally showed the contours of her belly button, and if she had turned far enough, probably shown the brand on her underwear:
If you are announcing the weather or the news, I do NOT want to know that you are anatomically correct. I really don't. I don't care whether you are a man or a woman or of a differing gender. I just turned to your channel to find out how long I can expect the thunder-boomers outside, and if there are damaging winds accompanying it. Your belly button is not germane to this discussion.
Later, y'all,

I think there is a trend to make weather women, in particular, sexy as if all the stations are competing. There is one here that the "boys" all go crazy over.0 -
Betsy ... glad you were able to treat the detached retina quickly! Praying your recovery is complete!
I fell yesterday. I can't remember the last time I fell. The puppy was overexcited and I didn't understand what my husband was saying ... I tripped over the dog trying to keep him from escaping outside. The pup took part of the fall, along with a bag of clothes I was getting ready to donate, but I still landed on the ceramic tile. Protecting my knees, my husband and son had to help me get back up! My back seems to be protesting the most today. Sigh.

Betsy - glad it was caught early. What a pain about the lying down!
Beth - Hope your back eases up. These things happen so quickly. Grrrrrr!
My best friend's apartment in York has just gone live on rightmove. Looks absolutely wonderful. I hope it sells quickly and she can give up work and move. She is 72!

Hope your eye heals completely.
I need to make an appointment with Kaiser dr for a tear in my retina- My regular eye doctor found it when checking my eyes(was complaining about floaters)
She said it isn't really bad but wants me to have them check it- see what they want to do .

Worked today so no formal exercise. The plan for tomorrow is to do a body pump DVD
kymari – have you gotten the bed (frame) yet?
Kim – yes, our bedroom is big. The whole house is 5,000 sq ft.
Vince just got back from the allergist. Seems he’s allergic to almost everything. You know, a part of me wonders if the fact that he had air conditioning in his home while he was growing up had something to do with it. I’ve heard that if someone is exposed to things like pets, etc. when they’re young, they tend not to get as many allergies. I don’t think there’s anything that I’m allergic to. My air conditioning consisted of an open window! I also spent a lot of time at my aunt’s house and she lived on a farm. An onion farm, not one with animals.
Terri – lovely flower. I so love to look at other’s flowers. My gardening theory? If God means for it to live, it’ll live.
Bananas – we have wood floors, and many times I find a roomba to be a real help in getting up the crumbs. I may go around the perimeter of the room just getting the crumbs into the middle of the floor, but it’s a certainly a time saver. As I decide I don’t want something or need it, it goes into the “Salvation Army” box and then when the box gets full, donation time!
Allie – someone at Food Lion mentioned that they discontinued J&J, thanks for confirming this. I wonder if they discontinued it everywhere? The hardest part of getting our vaccine was making the appointment. Once we got that, it was very smooth sailing. The first time we didn’t wait at all to get it, just the 15 minutes afterwards. The second time I think we waited one minute before they took us. Very well organized
Gwen – jump right on in, the water’s fine!!!
Carol GA – no, we still don’t have a definite date for visiting Denise. We have talked about the possibility of staying in a hotel. We would probably go up on a Friday and leave on a Tuesday after Denise goes to work.
This gal who used to work at Dollar General said that DG has “penny Tuesdays” where certain things are only a penny. Now she said that a list of the things on sale is posted on their app, but I sure couldn’t find the most recent list. Does anyone have any experience with this?
Washed the floor in the mud room and then in the kitchen, just the high traffic area as that gets the dirtiest.
Kathleen – welcome. You’ve got the right idea, baby steps
Kim – welcome back. I do hope your husband will follow your lead
Got a little over 13,000 steps in today. I feel sorry for this one guy, whenever he’s really bored, he comes outside to get carts. I’ve seen him bring just one up to be cleaned. Today I started this thing where if I see someone in the parking lot with a large order or an elderly person, if I can I offer to help them load their groceries into the car. Helps me, if anything. Or if I see someone buying a plant, I just give them a cart. You are supposed to keep 3 of these smaller carts in the store along with 2 of the larger ones. Really, most mornings there aren’t any in the store. And I’ve seen a lot of people who don’t put them in the store. I’m going to ask if this has been discontinued. Really, it’s a pain in the lower backside, I can’t see why people can’t just take a cart from outside the building. But that’s not my decision. So I’ll see what the final decision is
Beth – feel better fast. Sending virtual chicken soup
As I recall, someone on here had the recipe for sauerkraut that only used 1T of salt. Can you please repost it? I loved it, but I made it a while ago and forget the recipe

I went camping this weekend for the first time in 25 years. While it was certainly relaxing most of the time, I had a lot of trouble with my knee. All the bending down and kneeling to set up the tent and crawl in and out of it was rather painful. I think I need to just sit most of the time until it has time to heal. I have a doc appointment tomorrow. I know she'll just refer me to physical therapy first, but I know that's not my solution. I have been doing those exercises for weeks and it's worse. I started taking ibuprofen, hoping it helps, but I don't think it does much. I need an MRI.
Girl camping was fun though. My friend's husband was giving her a hard time because we made real food and took wine and had fancy chocolates. I asked her what he would take and she said rice and beans eaten out of a baggie. I like girl camping better.
It was COLD and wet though. The fog came in overnight it got in the low 40s (40F is 4.44 in Celcius). There was no way I was getting out of my sleeping bag to use the facilities in the middle of the night, so I just hoped there was no need. In the morning I made a mad rush to the toilets!
This weekend is the mister's birthday. I am still debating about a gift. Nothing like waiting till the last possible moment.
Welcome to the new people!
Hugs to those in need and hope everyone with ailments is feeling great today! Ihope everyone without ailments continues that way!

I grew up in a rural area where we were outside all the time in the summer. We also had A/C. We went camping, swam in lakes and ponds, worked on my uncle and aunt's ranch (with animals and crops) and had no allergies growing up. Now, I am allergic to a bunch of things I know about and some that just seem to make me miserable. Mostly pollens.
I think our sauerkraut is 1 TBSP salt to 1 head of cabbage. Someone else posted a recipe for sauerkraut in a jar, but I don't recall the recipe.

I'm going to sleep upstairs tonight so that DH can read, or listen to podcasts if he is really wakeful and feeling miserable. I suggested he download the BBC Sounds app onto his phone, so he can revisit some of his favourite programmes. The archive goes back years. Although I've mentioned to him several times, he had no idea what I was talking about. I'm not sure how he missed all the adverts for it on TV! He's done it now. It might calm him, if he's feeling anxious, to listen to a favourite voice. I know he likes The Life Scientific with Jim Alkalili. We normally listen to it on Tuesdays when we are exercising, but I know the archive is extensive.
I'm also going to keep the heat on for him. He got very cold last night. It was frosty out and he was awake reading his Kindle. I slept through it.
And so, to bed.

Quick drop in. Have Church council zoom at 7 and since I am president I really should show up!
Lisa-I agree with your rant on weather girl. I don't think you should wear for work the same outfit you would wear to a bar hoping to get picked up!
Julie-congrats on washing machine! We had marque floors in our kitchen for a number of years-until my husband fell into his 90 gallon aquarium and the water lifted most of them up (that is a story for another day).
Sympathies to those with spouse with issues. My husband was having memory issues for a number of reasons. While I miss him, a part of me is glad I didn't have to watch the continued deterioration.
Need to get a couple of things ready before meeting.
Take care all,

Another score! We have two patios, one in front and back. The one in front is smaller. I found a bistro table and chairs on OfferUp selling for $80, got it for $75. I e been seeing them sell for $150 or mor, so this was a great find. I pressure washed it and it looks like new. Thinking about spray painting it a lighter color and getting some chair pads

Pip: I love your patio furniture. It looks inviting and attractive.
I have a city meeting this evening. It is a continuation of the previous meeting and I expect it to last for a long time. It involves a neighborhood conflict between two households. The last time we met on this issue, we didn’t finish until after midnight. I anticipate that both sides will bring a lawyer. That may make it easier. I hope this will go well. We’ll see.

So many welcomes today. Barbie keeps us organized and makes it possible for the conversation to continue month after month. Heart.
NicolePulverStritesky Congratulations on quitting smoking- the most addictive substance.
Meg welcome back. Lots of arms to hug you. I know, I just returned. And the relationships sort of started where they left off.
KathLeen Love the screen name.
Kim in Central Indiana You found the right place.
Gwen-Join and stay a while.
For those upset about the news over the last few weeks, I recommend that you follow Patrick Skinner @SkinnerPM on Twitter and read the New Yorker and Washington Post articles about him. The Spy Who Came Home | The New Yorker and "I’m a cop. I won’t fight a ‘war’ on crime the way I fought the war on terror." He is a police officer in his hometown of Savannah, Ga. He is a former CIA operations officer and served in the United States Coast Guard as well as the U.S. Capitol Police.
"I approach every person I meet on the streets as my neighbor. Often this is literally true because I live where I work. That was a deliberate choice for me, but I respect whatever others choose; I was just trying to figure out how to be a good cop, and, for me, that meant being a good neighbor. I needed to trust my neighbors if I ever wanted them to trust me."
Most of his tweets are about his now 4 ginger tabbies (all "failed" fosters- I think he is about to get a 5th- just doesn't realize it yet) and his 3 rescued dogs. But he also posts uplifing messages about how we can lower the termperature to avoid conflict.
Betsy- So glad you got the detached retina problem early and are able to get surgery. Best of luck.
Allie-surgery is always stressful. I hope that we can relieve some of yours. You do so much do everyone else.
Debbie in Nappa sounds like you have been very productive to me.
Rebecca Audrey Hepburn quote- tonight and just started a book about Audrey Hepburn written by younger son Luca Dottie called Audrey at Home. He never knew his mother as a movie star. She had retired. This also includes her recipes and notes from wherever she lived. She liked to cook. Athena is adorable and the family resemblance of all the girls is quite strong. All beautiful and they all look like you.
Kylie Kentuckyis that how you made your screen name? I used to have family in KY. Early settlers, but no one is left. Our generation scattered to the winds and older passed on. Where is your old KY home?
Annie- glad the roast is gone. You really have your hands full. Hugs.
Barbara-Love the Sisyphus analogy. Only in my case it is the world’s messiest eating cat. Food scattered everywhere!
Snowflake your quote the other day- how true.
Sue and Katla – I am envious that you can now ride.
Flea and Allie Just a little bit of buckwheat, when used as a flour, goes a long way. Gives a really great flavor to baked goods. Personally, I prefer it as groats for kasha.
Carolcleaning out? Will you do my house next? I was never a pack rat but my DH of blessed memory never threw anything out. Although the clothes and many tools were donated or given to friends, I have not been able to go through the papers. Help.
Tracey You DGD sounds so charming and grownup. What a fashion plate. I agree about not for profits. NGOs always have more to do and less funding.
Beth]-I hope that you have no long-term effects from the fall. Your description gave a wonderful picture of life with small animals. Their favorite place is underfoot.
Michele What do you mean no exercise today? 13,000 steps sounds like exercise to me.
Bananas Do post pictures of floors when you are finished. One of the joys of going back to Eastern Europe is seeing the beautiful ,polished parquet floors. I missed going back in 2020 and it looks like 2021 will be a bust as well. 2 years in a row. WhatsApp and Zoom don’t quite make up for long chats lasting until the wee hours.
Matchka I love the pictures of Tasmania and your biking maps. Years ago, I worked in Australia. I never made it there. Going back is on the list. DM me about early age neurodegeneration. It is a subject I know all too well.
Lisa- “homicidal hairy cows” I almost fell over laughing! You do have a way with words. Girl camping with real food, wine and chocolate sounds perfect. Your wardrobe rant -100% agree. Mine is the distressed jeans style. Some are so holey that they leave nothing to the imagination. And even if only “slightly distressed”, they still have huge environmental costs in water wasted, chemicals released. It burns me up when a celebrity who espouses “natural” everything is photographed wearing these jeans. I hope I have not offended anyone who likes the style. I am a cranky old woman, also.
Kate UKthere is no way to fight it. When DH completely forgets, just take a deep breath, and walk away. Otherwise, you are pounding a wall made of custard. Save yourself for the times it will be absolutely necessary.
Heather so much news and so many great pictures. The time with DH sounds perfect. The relationship is as real as real can be. I loved the tent for Max. For something extra- maybe a small sum for a Lego figure he can pick? Sundowning is so difficult. I remember taking DH for rides in the middle of the night to calm down. Made it hard to get up for work, but worth it. Very soothing. Suggestion for your duvet- what about a duvet cover? They have made my life so much easier over the years. Slip them off and into the weekly wash they go.
Bananas and Terri Got my second COVID vaccine today. Did not feel anything. Our NGO is considered “essential” so we got a notice from the state. Although today’s news about a number of cases in previously fully vaccinated brought home importance of not letting guard down and continuing all precautions until this thing is over. I will miss the constant cleaning by businesses, especially grocery stores. There still will be a few stores I will never go into.
Everyone-
Book title A Peripatetic Life
Favorite exerciseRiding horses , but not for 2 years since accident. Will try therapeutic riding when I feel COVID safe. Now, walking.
Help needed DGD has had 2 heart operations in last few weeks, and they are about to schedule 3rd. This on top of the transplant for cancer. No end in sight to hospitalization and resulting financial hardship.
Does anyone have experience with GoFundMe? I am not sure why we are not getting donations. Please DM me for details. Thank you.
May you and your loved ones stay safe and healthy. CJ

cityjaneLondon wrote: »So sorry for those of you with spouses with cognitive issues. Kate UK, it must be a real worry for you and it may be time to start looking for support and help. Doctor, charities and the like. The more information you can get the better prepared you will be. Have you done your LPAs for example. I have started mine and hope to persuade a reluctant DH to do his.
It is very frightening and frustrating to be facing this, but you are not alone and you can reach out for help.
My DH is having very bad nights and getting anxious about it, but he is fine in the daytime and not showing mental deterioration. I try to reassure him about the night problem. Doctors here are overwhelmed with post covid log jams, but if you don't apply for attention you can't move up the queue.
Love to all , Heather UK xxxxxxMachka the instant gratification you mention of clean floor after vacuuming lasts only moments until the dogs come back inside. Cleaning is effort that just must be made over and over and over again. Think Sisyphus. The satisfaction is so brief, the dissatisfaction so immediate, I’m happier ignoring the spruce needles and dog hair until they stand up and demand eviction  You look so happy cycling! You’re right about the right mattress and pillow making me reluctant to get up in the mornings.
Barbara
My goal(s) for 2021 is/are to get these things organise and to simplify as much as I can. So on my list are things like putting together medical binders of information on both of us, finding appropriate medical care should neurodegeration become an issue, etc.
Also on my list is simplifying our house. If I could (but I can't because I rent), I would pull out all the carpeting and put down laminate flooring (or hardwood if I suddenly came into a lot of money!). I would also insulate under the floor. That would almost eliminate the vacuuming (I'd still do edges because clean edges are a particular point with me) and I would just have to sweep now and then, and go over the floors with a damp mop from time to time.
Meanwhile, I have put most ornaments and things into closed cabinets so I don't have to dust them (much). Later on my list, I'll go through and try to get most of the rest into a cabinet ... means I have to get another closed cabinet, but that's OK. There's not much point in having a whole bunch of ornaments and things out if they are just going to collect dust!
@bananasandoranges ... I want to go over the kitchen floor on my hands and knees with a scrub brush, but I will have to do it when my husband has gone to bed. He gets upset when he sees me cleaning. It's complicated ... he thinks it is something he should do, but he doesn't do it, then if he sees me do it he thinks I'm upset so he gets upset ..... it's just easier to wait until he's asleep and try to scrub quietly!
