    Michelle- she gardens ,no mowing..

    Good for her!

I'm 54 and I have never mowed a lawn. Never operated a lawn mower!

Years ago I determined that if the time came I would actually have to do that, I'd move back into an apartment building.

My husband can do that, although the next time it's needed, I might get our lawn care guy in.

    M in Oz

I love to mow the lawn. We have a bit under 4 acres. I find it relaxing to buzz around on the mower.

    Sounds like you've got a ride-on mower!

Yes, we do. My criteria is if it starts with a key, I'll take care of it. If you have to pull start it, not me.

Through AARP I watched the movie Fisherman's Friends. It had an ensemble cast of many English actors I recognised from other shows and movies. I enjoyed it. It was good to see an up lifting movie. I found myself singing along. It is based on a singing group Fisherman's Friends. They sing the sea chanties they sing when the go out fishing. It was also a story about friendship and trust. Another good example of the integrity Heather talked about. I think it is one of the things we are craving in our country and our news stories do not cover enough.

    Morning ladies
I didnt sleep well at all last night, but got up and went to my friends place upstairs to feed Nicky the cat..
The reason I did the mowing was except for a 5-6 yrs they cut my hours and Tom was working overtime. So in my mind i was helping by doing that, and cooking and laundry .
But I heard from one of his friends that he would tell his buddies oh my wife is home mowing the lawn, sort of bragging and after awhile i didnt feel appreciated, i still did it but as the marriage started falling apart and stupid me trying to keep making it work.
I had one bad marriage and by golly i was going to make this one work.. but like I told Tom after I filed for divorce. He begged and pleaded and i said to little to late..I just hope he doesnt treat Elena like he treated me,but alot of in the later yrs im guessing was guilt on his part.

Did Firm Cardio Party DVD then went for a walk. The plan for tomorrow is to do Mari Windsor Pilates for Pink Core Challenge DVD then go for a walk.

Mowing lawn – I actually enjoy it, too. Even in really hot weather. I figure I’m getting in steps and burning more calories. Win! I usually use the push behind and weed eater while Vince uses the riding mower.

M – when our mower died (it was the kind where you had to pull the cord to get it started) Vince asked me what brand I wanted. I just told him “I don’t care about the brand, but it MUST have an electric start.” You just push the button and it starts. There is a back-up pull cord, but I have never had to use it, and we’ve had this mower a few years.

Lisa – I’m so sorry the grandkids are leaving early

Have the oven started for another loaf of bread

Asking again: anyone who decorates cakes (Heather for one), how do you transfer your cake from the stand where you decorate it to the board (or whatever) that you are going to serve it on?

Oh, remember I told you my neighbor borrowed our Polaris. Well, he really wanted to pay me for it. We couldn't care less. Anyway, I hate to hurt his feelings so I told his wife via Facebook that only IF he felt deep in his heart that he absolutely must do something, to make a donation to the soup kitchen. They certainly can use the money.

Peach: I am with you on the notion of dating. Luckily, DH is still alive and with me. Two of our good friends were both widowed when they met, and they’ve been very happy married to one another. Life is a gift to be cherished.

Vicki: Thank you for your kind words and understanding. The loss of our old pup has left us teary and grieving. In time, we will look for another dog. For now we’re sad and cry a bit now and then.

Michele: My cute & adorable grandchildren live thousands of miles away. It is sad to be separated by so much distance. My daughter has a great job and is the breadwinner. Her DH is a stay at home dad who tends their farm critters and the children. My son is the bread winner in his family, and his wife is a stay at home mom. When we were raising our children, DH & I both worked. I was a teacher in the school that our kids attended and we had the same schedules. I have good memories of those years. :star:

Heather: I envy your proximity to your grandchildren. You were smart to move closer to them. :star:

Margaret: We have never used rat poison, but we have used ant bait. The ant bait is contained in a pet proof container. Can rat/mouse poison be found in a container that will not harm pets? We had mouse problems in our previous home and used heavy duty metal screens to keep them out. It worked. :flowerforyou:

Michele: The soup kitchen is a lovely way to help others. Our small town does not have one for the general public. The senior center here provides meals to seniors at their facility and delivered meals to seniors & others who are shut-ins that can’t come in. Those who receive the meals pay a modest fee if they are able, and no fee if they are not able to pay. The nearest big city to us is Portland, OR, and the Salvation Army there works to provide meals to those in need, regardless of age. :flowerforyou:

    Morning, afternoon and evening, all...

Pip - your donor Karen is @KetoneKaren in Virginia.

Beth - Grief is such a thief of our joy and our will to take action. It simply pulls from you, and gives nothing in return but more pain. Once I could see the grief was not the actual person I was grieving for, it had a little less power to drag me in, but it took a long time. Wish I could actually hug you...

Allie - So glad your daughter's doing OK still.

On the subject of mowing: My need to do the mowing is all tied up with my need for instant gratification. Very few things give as much satisfaction as looking back on a beautiful place that you've made that way. To me, anyway. Not fond of the accompanying stuff, like gasoline or electric cords or batteries or what have you. But they become the means to the end I'm looking for.

My daughter and family will be leaving today. The other grandparents are guilting them into leaving us early and coming up to spend the night tonight (they're about three hours away) so they too will have time for the grandbabies, as they're off work today and tomorrow morning. The kids' reluctance to spend extended time there is because the other grandparents smoke inside the house, not because they're not tremendously loved.

Thanks for the words on the photos. They are, of course, showing just the good moments, and they weren't all good--there was noise and chaos and exhaustion. I will be glad to get my peace back.

But oh, the house will seem loud and empty and will echo for quite some time after they leave.

    Later, y'all,
    Love,
    Lisa

    Thanks!!!!!!

Michele - I decorate my cake on a cake board and don't move it from there. I just transfer the board on to a large cake stand I have for special occasions. Often I don't remove the plastic shrink wrap, so I can use the board another time. If some icing gets on the board I just wipe it off.
I do also have a large cake support with a handle that can be used to transfer cakes. Like a round pizza bake, but with a handle. Don't know what it's called.

DH is on his way home. Been a bit lonely, but I've watched a lot of foreign language films. <3 Did some bonus exercise, rowing and cycling, but I couldn’t resist nibbling at the cheese while I was grating it for the cauliflower cheese. :o

Barbara: Thank you for the hugs. I am teary and the hugs help.

Linda: Thanks to you, too. Schooner was a very good boy. I hope he is safely in heaven. Somewhere I read that all good dogs go to heaven. Schooner was definitely a good dog.

Rebecca- i have had that, its not fun, right now my eyes are wonky ans im typing with 1 eye closed

I'm sorry friend! Yes no fun. During the night my swirls when moving positions just kind of conk me out. But I'm acclimating. The transition from lying to standing isn't fun, but its only 5 minutes of swirling lightheadedness. It passes.

Speaking of mowing the lawn….guess what I just did????

katla – oh, I hear ya about not being able to see the grandchildren. I only get to see my grandson twice a year if I go up there. Every year at Christmas time the soup kitchen has an auction. Last year it was online. I have no idea what they’re going to do this year. But I figure I can give this crosstitch to them and they can put it in the auction if they want to. To be honest, I need something to do to keep my hands busy and out of my mouth….lol

Heather – that’s a great way to move the cake! I never thought of that. Put the cake board on the stand you use to decorate, put the cake on the board and decorate. Then you can move the cake on the board to the pretty plate you have. Great idea!

Anne DE – you’re doing great on the dating. You never know until you try.

Lisa, love the pics of the grands! Sorry to hear that they are leaving (have left?) early, but sounds like you got a good visit in.
Michele, I usually just decorate the cake on the plate that I plan to serve it on. I put parchment paper under just the edges of the cake. When you're done decorating, remove the parchment paper and voila! A nice clean plate!
Allie, keeping your daughter in my thoughts, glad to hear that everything is okay, but bleeding this early in the pregnancy would be a concern to me to.
Beth and Margaret, {{{HUGS}}} to both of you.
Like all the grandparents here (and probably world wide!) I love seeing the grands, but they exhaust me too! They are just like little energizer bunnies! (keep going and going and going....) I'm somewhat relieved when they leave, but then want to see and hug them again the next day! Ah well, can't have it all, I guess.
Lawn mowing, not for many, many years! My dad injured his back when I was a pre-teen and pushing the lawn mower around the yard (we had a large yard) was a bit beyond him for a short period of time, so I go voluntold. Dad supervised, of course. I was going along, thought I was doing okay when he stopped me at the end of the "row" and said "look at what you did". There was this one little dandelion blossom that I managed to miss! It was kind of funny, I had swerved right around it, it was on the edge of where I had already mowed, but still.... I have no memory of mowing the lawn after that.... hmmm, maybe that was a good thing! lol Our new home has no lawn, neither hubby nor I are unhappy about that. Although I do wish the back yard got more sun, some of my flowers would be much happier, and would probably express their pleasure by blooming....
Kelly, I love the story of the kids picking the "flowers!" for you!
Once again, I have been keeping up, but it seems that I get caught up and it's time to go to bed! I'm at work today, and it's quiet, so I decided to do some catching up with all of you.
Hugs for those who need them, congrats to those who are celebrating and welcome to the newbies.

I did a running event today! :) The Kingston Beach Fun Run & Walk :)

The way my training has been going, I thought I'd be fortunate to do the run under 45 minutes but I surprised myself by doing it in 40:57. Not as fast as the last time I did the event, but OK. :)

Tracey - That is very competent for a child her age. Smart kid! <3 She soooo takes after you!
I always remember when we asked Max, aged two, to water the flowers and he did just that, missing the pot by a mile. :D Bea did the same thing, aged four!
I think your Michaela and my Edie are going to be trouble in their teens! :p

I'm feeling fat. I know what to do. I just have to do it. ;) I don't feel good at this weight. I will catch it before it gets worse. I want to feel SLEEK. :D:D:D

Salmon tonight. In a leek and fennel crême fraiche sauce.
