Did Leslie Sansone 5 Day Fit Walk then took a walk. The plan for tomorrow is to do a Gilad Strength in Motion DVD
Well, I went to Food Lion and gave my notice. Fortunately, the one really nice manager was there and I spoke to her. I feel so relieved. I really didn’t need that. I do feel sorry for the customers who looked for me and I feel sorry for the workers who depend on the hours to put food on their table. I really like helping people, and I want to think positively, maybe this is my ultimate way to help someone. By my not having hours, maybe someone who really needs them will get them.
Allie – you might be on to something mentioning how that guy at Food Lion might be a video gamer. Whenever I talked to him, he almost never looked at me. Usually, when someone is speaking to you, you look at them. He always looked out into space. I was talking to Vince and he was saying that unfortunately, a lot of kids today text and really don’t have social skills. He would never talk to me unless I talked to him first (“good morning”). That might very well be why. And if he stays up late playing video games, of course he’d be tired.
Very cloudy and overcast today.
Went to Aldi. Got some of the things that I need. I do need to go to WalMart in the next day or two
Lisa – I one time bought a card for a friend and it said “Get well soon, because at our age replacement parts are hard to come by”
Deb – (((HUG)))
Went to food Lion and quit, took my morning walk, got dinner ready to microwave, made biscuits for Vince to have (I’ll freeze them), went in the pool, now getting breakfast for tomorrow made
Kim – (((HUG)))
Went to ceramics tonight. The gal who put the hashtags on Dopey's patches forgot to do one patch so she's redoing it and refiring it, so I should be able to pick it up Monday. Then I'll post a picture of it for you all.

Took the dogs to grooming this morning on the way to line dance. When Jake picked me up after class we went for our first restaurant meal since February 2020. It was a Mexican restaurant across the street from the groomer so it would be easy to pick up the dogs after we ate. The restaurant is large with big spaces between tables so we felt comfortable.

Having a down day today. got in fight with angsty teenager last night. DH took their side, which just ticked me off. Had to go into my office to work today (as opposed to working from home, which I do several days a week since covid) so been spending the day dreading going home with unresolved fight with everyone. Going camping tomorrow and I just don't even want to do it now. I don't think I'm wrong on the issue the fight was over, but it's about angsty teen and not me. And kid is 18 in a month. I feel so like I screwed this one up and now it's too late to fix. Anyway - nothing I can do other than accept kid's decision or don't. But neither will make any difference. Feel like I just want them to finish school and go on to college just so I don't have to deal with the drama every stinking day. But we're not allowed to give up on our kids, right? I'm just tired tired tired of it all. And on top of that, scale was up this morning. Gross.
I hear you. Totally. Teenagers suck most of the time. I have a 14, 20, and 25 year old, and I'm afraid to say that the 25 year old isn't a whole lot better than the 14 year old. Oh, and the 20 and 25 year old sons both bombed at college, so no relief there. (In my older son's defense, he is now working on a paramedicine degree. And he's kept a full time EMT job for a year, so there are small steps to celebrate.)
Still my kids, but sometimes . . . .

And there are a lot of people out there with some level of brain injury
Get the Facts About TBI
https://www.cdc.gov/traumaticbraininjury/get_the_facts.html
"There were about 61,000 TBI-related deaths in the United States in 2019.3 That’s about 166 TBI-related deaths every day."
That's deaths ... many more survive the injury but may have lasting effects. In my course, I've learned that people with a mild concussion will likely recover in 2-4 weeks, but repeated concussions or more severe concussions can result in long-term, perhaps even life-long changes.
Traumatic Brain Injury-related Hospitalizations and Deaths by Age Group, Sex, and Mechanism of Injury
https://www.cdc.gov/traumaticbraininjury/pdf/TBI-surveillance-report-2016-2017-508.pdf
"Approximately 227,000 TBI-related hospitalizations occurred in 2016 but counts decreased to
almost 224,000 in 2017." -- that's US data only and if you read the Limitations in that article, the count would be much higher.
And there are other things which affect our brains like strokes, tumors, drugs & alcohol, dementia, etc. It's no wonder people are a bit "weird" sometimes!

Hi everyone,
Kylia in Ohio, your brother lives about 30 miles straight north up the highway from me.
Lots of discussion around being exhausted. I think it's life (unless it's medical). Life is hard and messy, and if you live it, it makes you tired. That and getting up to pee at night, but you know what I mean.
Lots of wonderful suggestions for managing stress. Just wanted to add journaling. I keep a digital journal on my phone. When my brain keeps insisting I remember every little thing, I can trust the journal to do it for me. Lets my brain relax a little. My daughter journals to write positive affirmations. You can do whatever works for you. My other suggestion is a little yoga thing. "Release your tongue, relax your jaw." In other words, you may not realize it, but we often hold our tongue pressed hard against the roof of our mouths, if you just release it, and relax your jaw, your whole face feels better.
Have a good night.

I depend heavily on my online calendars. I can't remember everything, but I can remember to put things in my calendar when they occur.

Im going to have a heart to heart with Dan tomorrow, he is 36 and 1/2 ,doesnt wash his hair and i have to drag it out of him to clean his clothes, its a disgrace.. alot of it is self asteem, but unless you kick him in the butt he wont do a thing,so i will take him for a haircut and a shave, tell him to bave his clothes ready for me once a week.and we need to talk about getting in to see a dr.. and if he gives me flack he will have a heck of a time getting to work..they have been keeping him in back in The produce department cutting up fruit and veggies. That way no one has to see him..he looks sloppy and i hate saying that about my son but its the truth....he is very complacent and he has to sh-- or get off the pot.6 -
Kelly, now I have a bit of puppy fever. I don’t want a large dog either. My best bet would be a long haired dachshund or a mini corgi. I’ll have to watch the rescues around me, I guess. I’m glad you had a good visit with your friends. I like the natural long hair photo the best. It accentuates the right things about your face.
JustkeepTrying, what a rotten thing to do. It’s unfair especially to coworkers who have to fill the unexpected gaps.
Rebecca, did Oak Harbor do their usual fireworks?
Pip! I’m so glad to see your usual stat-heavy posts. It somehow satisfies my heart to know someone else is as compulsive about a set of numbers as I am. I log every bite and sip when I’m on my game and go back and try to check every nutrient and value.
Tracey in Edmonton, what is it with this group and unappreciative bosses? Seems we have another sort of pandemic on our hands. Or is it just that we became so needy that we’d accept that sort of treatment gladly for the attention, and now we’re waking up?
Lisa in AR, hang in there. I’m no stranger to what you’re going through. Baby steps are still progress, even if we wobble from time to time. It’s when I’m feeling a waddle rather than a wobble that I know I’m headed into bad places.
R in indiana, it’s funny how we get down on ourselves for what others would say is progress. Keep on doing the right thing as best you can. For me, I deduct NO exercise calories. That way the only thing I can get wrong is calories. I actually measure most of my food now and don’t go on guesstimates. I’m not good at them.
Diane in Tenn, welcome. This IS a busy thread, but so many people here who have reached goal and are maintaining, and willing to share their experience, strength and hope.

Yes! On our street we were sandwiched between two groups of neighbors lighting some pretty powerful fireworks! We just had to get a chair out! They started at 8:30 pm and went until 2:00am. We could see the fireworks that the city put on, but we could feel the ones in our neighborhood! Hugs!2 -

Not sure it will help, Kim, but my story about 17 almost 18 year old teenage son: He was doing stuff I didn't approve of, and being arrogant and disdainful towards me. It pushed my buttons so I took a big breath, ready to launch into lecture mode, when it occurred to me that he really was just a few short weeks away from being 18. So he stood there waiting with a pained face for my predictable lecture, and I stood there holding my big breath and my tongue, and I exhaled, and we stared at each other, and then I very, very quietly said something like, "I love you. I have taught you everything I can, and I'm not sure I've done a good job, but it's the best I could do. Now you have to decide for yourself what kind of man you will be. If you want my advice, you know where to find me." And I turned and walked away. He is 43 now...I still find him exasperating, and I still have to hold my tongue, but he is a fine man.

Michele. - The guy that doesn't make eye contact at the Food Lion may be on the spectrum.
.
6 -
Pip. - I really like the idea of putting can lights in the garage. So much better than the fluourescents we have installed. It looks great.
KJ. - Happy anniversary, friend.

I had to laugh because this popped up in my "Memories" today.
I think I'm on the spectrum somewhere so I could relate to it and when I first posted it, I said:
"And for some reason people get really uncomfortable when, in an attempt to make some eye contact, you stare intently at both pupils within the eyes of the other person."

Katla, im so glad you get to ride thanks to your good friend! Many of my local friends have horses and really miss their time with them when they’re busy. It’s not like a dog or cat who greets you when you get home. Most folks have them stabled somewhere else. I’d find that hard, like having a child away at camp or boarding school.
Oh Rebecca! your food picture and ingredient list spark all my nom nom buttons!
Liz in North Florida, first of all, I hope the nasty weather misses you! How does one find out they woke up in ketosis? I’m on a high protein food regime because I’ve had gastric bypass surgery. I have to be careful I don’t get to burning protein (muscle) instead of staying even or burning fats. I never am quite sure I’ve got enough protein percentage for my size. Knowing I was in ketosis would help.
Pip, isn’t body dysmorphia a bear? I’m at my goal range of 135-155 ( I allow a 10lb swing from 145 either way), but still sit gingerly in those plastic chairs, I’m so sure they’d break. And I cover my lower belly area careful because I’m so sure I’m fat. I KNOW better, I just have trouble thinking better.
”Hi” to Erin from Northern California! glad to meet you. I’m near Seattle but love northern CA Eureka would be a place I’d really consider living if it weren’t too pricey. You’ve set some terrific guidelines for this month. Running should help those pounds melt - especially with no candy and no alcohol. Healthy snacks will help you stay on track. Think hummus and veggies or meat sticks.
Snacker, is that a habit you have, or does it just describe your eating habit? The folks I know who eat 5-6 tiny meals (snacks to me!) seem to do quite well. I’m trying my best to emulate them for most of the day. Keep on posting so we get to know you.
Michelle, by mahjong do you mean the tile matching game in various shapes or the actual game of mahjong as played by the women in Amy Tan’s books? I think I’d like to learn the real game, but I’d prefer to play the computer at first.
Barbie in NW WA, it seems like we talk about so much besides food. Friends, spouses, co-workers, repairs, animals we share our lives here, and that’s what keeps it real for me. I’m so glad for your very acute analysis o things and your ever-so-logical solutions to problems.
Barbie AHMOD, cougars scare me more too. I love my cats, but see in them the likeness to big cats every day. They are focused on the silent stalk and pounce to kill. Even in play-fighting with each other I see how it could be deadly in an instant. They have learned cat manners well from their mothers and know when to quit. Strangely, my orange tabby girl, who is almost exactly half the size of her Siamese sparring partner is the dominant cat. She was here first and makes sure Andromeda knows it.
On a terrible fudge I binge. My philosophy today was “eat it up, then buy no more”, so it’s gone but so is any thought of ketosis or weight loss for today. Oh well. As Scarlet said, “Tomorrow’s another day!” I can’t take that attitude often, though. Just today.

Barbara - I would be more scared of cougar too. I grew up in the country but mostly saw deer and smaller animals. My biggest fear was skunks and porcupines.
Evelyn - great advise to Michele, I always give that answer when I don’t want to answer.
My Supervisor was dismissed from another facility because she was mistreating employees financially. Not paying OT, not giving raises, etc. I’m sure her bullying attitude didn’t help her any. In my situation I have worked probably 300 extra hours since February and was told to track all of my hours. When I put in for lieu time I was told no.
I am no expert by any means, but aren’t they now finding a lot of long lasting effects from concussions and what were once considered “minor” injuries to the head? I think some football and hockey players have had serious issues.
I had a 3rd degree concussion and severely bruised brain in grade 7 or 8 and it worries me.
Debbie - I had that as a wallpaper on my phone and looked at it daily for months. I was holding a lot of resentment in. At one point, just before I found this, I had a bag packed and was leaving. It was January though and the car battery wouldn’t start. I ended up staying and we talked, sometimes very loudly, most of the day. We cleared the air but I still held a lot of resentment. It’s been about 3 years now and I’m much happier than I was since 2006. It takes work but it was worth it for me. I wish you all the best, if you ever want to talk pm me.
Katla - thank you. I have decided o will keep my hours tracked and not rock the boat. I’ll see how it all plays out.
I have a clock I need repaired too, it is an anniversary clock that was my grandmother’s. I’ve been scared of the price and haven’t made a call yet.
Kimshea - I hope you had a peaceful evening with the angsty teen. That’s a tough age. My parents probably wanted to shoot me.
Allie - My grandson was 4 when his sister was born his biggest concern was that she would cry and wake him up at night. We had him and videotaped him when she was born. His reaction, with his head handling low, was “I guess I’ll never sleep again”. Of course, being 4 he woke her much more than she woke him. 😂
I bet Talia changes her mind after the baby is here and can do things.
Machka - I keep having a “suggested ad” on FB from the Queensland Brain Institute, I assume because of our interactions on here. I have read quite a few of the articles, it’s amazing how far they are coming in understanding the human mind.
Karen - I love your story, sometimes that all we can do is stand back and let them go.
It was a very busy thread today it seemed to take me a long time to read through.
I am on vacation, that should have been lieu time, until Tuesday. We are keeping the Grands for a couple of nights while their parents enjoy a couple nights away to celebrate their 10th anniversary. On Saturday night the Grands and I are invading our other daughter so i have a break and they get to see Auntie Bug. I’m looking forward to it.
See you all tomorrow
Tracey in Edmonton5 -
Tracey- here in the states it is illegal to not get paid anything over 40 hrs if your not a salaried employee and after 40 hours they are supposed to pay you time and a half..its been a long time since I have worked 40 hrs,i think the only time i did is when I worked in a factory setting...i didnt get to sleep until 1 this morning and woke up at 5,so im running on 4 hrs sleep.. I really havr to figure out what i will say to Dan ,I just dont want to see him live his life like a hemit and not care what he looks like my dad would be appalled at what he has become, and without grandpa's guidance he is like a lost ship..i will choose my words carefully but also be direct and im his mom and if his few friends ever broached the subject he would shut them out too..wish me luck.6

Jump back July:
7-Shift your mood by doing something you really enjoy: when learning our BBQ order would take 30 minutes, chose to stroll around the docks. Later missed an opportunity when Joe didn’t meet my expectation. Next time.
8-Avoid saying “must” or “should” to yourself today: figure out what is not needed, substitute “get to” for what is.
When will I learn to give without attaching any expectations? Brought Joe home BBQ from the Farmers’ Market. Succumbed to a bacon, lettuce, avocado sandwich from the same vendor, thinking we could sit and eat together. When I got home, Joe wasn’t hungry and stuck his food in the fridge for later. I was disappointed and grumpy, but ate the BLA anyway…
Evelyn con VERY grats on the 13 miles!
Katla one of the many things I love about Joe is that he has no desire to go out into the woods and kill something.
Viv has your knee pain been diagnosed?
Allie I remember Cousin It
Debbie (((hugs)))
Julie “…soften the relation with guy one…” well done!
Pip lights in the garage… oooh shiny!
Welcome @candysashab88 ! 2-3 lbs in the right direction is a good month, sustainable.
Kim in Ind ((hugs)) angst and stress are notorious “pounds up” culprits. ((hugs))
Rebecca looks like the first part of your post got cut off?
Michele would the local Loew’s or Home Depot be glad to have you cover the earliest shift? It seems to me that the big box stores need friendly, self-starting customer service on the floor, and most open early…
TeenagersJoe and I did not have children, but fostered his 3 nephews for two years after their father was killed in a car accident and their mother could no longer cope. They were 13, 14 and 16 when we got them, and already struggling. We were not successful. We had never discussed philosophies of child rearing and were not just on different pages but in different libraries. I comfort myself with the fact that for two years the boys were fed, clothed, warm, sheltered, safe, had medical/dental attention and were kept in school as much as humanly possible. Now they are all grown men with their own children, all working and none in jail, thank Goodness. The youngest is the one we’re praying for, rare cancer complicated by severe diabetes. Miraculously the inoperable left side mass could not be seen on his last scan. Thanks be!
Lighter, lovelies!

Good morning all! Happy Thursday! Thank you for the anniversary wishes. Tim and I don't usually do anything big for our anniversary; but I was thinking that I might run into town and get him a wet burrito for dinner. Alas, at 5pm, he was asleep. So I made myself some soup (beef broth with veg and pico) and had a birthday brownie for dessert (four year olds birthday). I took a walk across the street after dinner and noticed the raspberries are in. I checked the milkweed, but didn't find a single caterpillar or Monarch egg! I am wondering if someone sprayed pesticide. I have only seen maybe five Monarch butterflies so far this year. Worrisome! Anyway, yesterday I DID get an impromptu head massage. lol ACTUALLY...two of my little girls woke up from nap with crazy matted hair, so I got out the detangler and brushed out and ponytailed their hair so that they look decent when moms picked up. The boys also wanted the "strawberry spray" on their hair, so we did their hair too. THEN, they all had to spray and brush my hair. With the exception of one little hair puller; it felt really good to sit and let them brush. I even had one little guy tell me that I "look Bootipull"! I had to shower last night because my hair was sticky from all of the detangler they sprayed on it. lol
Pip- So nice to have extra lights in the garage!
Sharon/Trucker- So good to see you back!
Teens-I have long thought that rather than take a long maternity leave when your baby is born; parents should save it for their kid's teen years.
Well, kiddos arriving. ttfn xoxoxo KJ (Kelly)

Barbara- Mmmmm...bacon, lettuce, and avocado! Sounds perfect! Also, fostering teens with no "build up" experience! Holy Cow! You deserve an award for that! Teens are not easy when they are your own that you have known for their entire lives; much less in the situation you took on!0

Getting the new roof today. Very, very noisy. There are worse things, but kind of hard to string two thoughts together.
Later, y'all,
Love,

Kelly, Happy Anniversary. We don't usually do anything special for our anniversary but we acknowledge it with words.
Allie, good luck with your son. He seems to be a teenager relying on his mommy to take care of him.
Barbara, learning to lived without expectations is a huge challenge. Keep at it. It makes for a happier life.

My aunt is in the hospital for tests. My mom, who is starting dementia, is interfering with my efforts to help out my aunt's family. So sad, because my mom used to be the kindest person, and now she is selfish.
