I was able to stay under my calorie goal yesterday even though I had Jimmy John’s for lunch and Applebee’s for supper. (both were for meetings) I was able to make some wise decisions from the menus. Had to pass on some really good-looking things. I like that the menus have calorie information. They reveal some surprising choices that would actually fill up an entire day’s budget in one meal.

I have heard from DW’s sisters that they will be bringing plenty of grazing opportunities with them this weekend. I am going to try to be selective and only eat what I really love. Sometimes I find myself tossing things in my mouth simply because it is available and I crave chewing. I need to let myself get a little hungry…

8/23 199.3 Well I had Chinese food on Friday night and apparently it stayed with me a bit. I realize that I haven’t logged food last week at all. So that is my weekly goal to log all food all week. Including the Oreo cookie (apple cider donut) that someone just brought over to my desk. Food does not equal comfort, food does not equal comfort…my new chant…
8/24 200.9 My clothes are starting to seem really tight. Even when I am working out lately, my heart isn’t in it anymore. When I go to Zumba class on Saturday, I have to really concentrate to stay in the moment. I know that right now I am going through some form of PTSD and trying very hard not to fall into depression but I am struggling. Can stress make everything you eat just stay with you? I thought I did pretty well yesterday but when I put in all my numbers, very high sodium, high fat, high sugar 2234 calories. Well there’s my answer. It felt like a regular day though. I felt like I was being good but upon review, I really wasn’t.

08/21 …..186.8 ….. (trend weight 189.3) My renovation handmen were here until late (9:30 pm). One helped prime my well pump and it’s still working this morning! Hopeful! I didn’t get in the walks I wanted and my dinner was very late and eaten in bed. Frozen pizza filled with sodium so I am happy the scale isn’t going crazy on me this morning. I finally settled in at about 11:30 pm to an Episode of Columbo which is one of my greatest pleasures. I had a heckofaday (with water problems and drywall dust) and deserved all two hours of it! Today I have pulled pork going in the crock pot to share with the workers.
08/22 …..185.4 ….. (trend weight 188.9) That’s better! Ended up having dessert last night which was unnecessary really. A double whammy – A little too much and totally of the wrong thing but the scale was still kind to me this morning. It was probably catching up to some good days a few days ago. Today is my DGD’s 1st birthday. She is about 65 miles away so there’s a tad bit of travel and there will be food and cake. I expect an uptick tomorrow but a wonderful day today! I will consider today my higher calorie day to keep my metabolism from dropping. Making it part of my plan instead of against it will help keep me in check in the coming days.
08/23 …..187.4 ….. (trend weight 188.8)The birthday party was fantastic for my DGD turning age 1. So beautiful with lots of things for toddlers to do (trampoline, kiddie pool, castle playing, bouncy house etc). Food was catered and delicious. I didn’t eat much real food yesterday, mostly junk. The cake was so sweet that, even after taking off most of the frosting, my teeth almost fell out. I felt like I died and went to heaven, truthfully. It was the land of milk and honey. Abundance. So…..two pounds later, I am planning an extra good day today. I’ll never forget her birthday celebration, but I will forget these 2 pounds. They will be gone before the end of this round!
08/24 …..187.4 ….. (trend weight 188.6) Still trending down and still below starting weight which is goal met. Yesterday I remained under calorie and with pretty decent macros. However, I didn’t drink enough water and I must have crawled like a snail or a turtle (at best) all day because I got in basically zero extra activity. So I am not surprised by no change on the scale. I will try to some lower carb healthier choices today and see what happens. On a positive note, today was morning 4 with water (and without priming well). Perhaps they’ve finally got the right settings!

Rain is due and the planned outside project is on hold for the day so it’s a perfect day to go buy the power/pressure washer I need. Lunch will be out, probably Chinese or Thai food. I drink less water when I am away from home, but I’ll try to get in extra tonight and tomorrow to offset the sodium. I do expect a temporary uptick on the scale tomorrow but temporary is the key word here…..

With the oppressive heat the past few days I’m not getting much exercise. I started to walk yesterday morning, but felt woozy and came home. I had heat stroke decades ago when I was teaching in Tunisia and I’m still pretty sensitive to overheating. Anyway, trying to watch it and move around the house as much as possible. 8/20 203.0 Walked 4 miles, Bike 30 min, 1590 cal, 76 net carbs, 3 glasses wine. Cooking class with friends where we made Fruit Empanadas, Paella Mixta, Tortilla Española. Exercised and fasted through breakfast but obviously not enough. Expected bump up after 4 evenings in a row eating at restaurants with friends. Gearing up for damage control and not let this be an excuse to continue to backslide.
8/21 204.6 Walked 4 miles, Swam 500m + treaded water 12 min, 2003 cal, 110 net carbs, 3 glasses wine, >100 oz water. Great exercise day but snacked on way to many nuts, fries at lunch & rice at dinner. But wow the continued rise in the scale is worrying me!

8/24 203.7 Walked 3 miles, Strength Class 1 hr, 1656 cal, 156 net carbs, 2 glasses wine. Cousin came in from Florida and we went to my sister’s for crawfish étouffée and wine … but I insisted on going to my exercise class before meeting up with them.
No swimming laps for a couple of weeks since they closed the olympic size lap pool for maintenance.
Thinking about signing up for twice per week strength classes in September to prep for hiking plans in Oct. The lunge part of the routine has made me much better at going up and down steps at home.
8/25 201.9 Walked 2.4 miles, 1255 cal, 117 net carbs, AF. Walked first thing in the morning, breakfast, donated blood & cleaned out a few kitchen cabinets … all before lunch! Then yard work and more cabinets in the afternoon.
8/26 203.1 Walked 3.6 +1 miles, gardening, 1794 cal, 143 net carbs, AF. Errand day in the afternoon … library, dry cleaners, groceries, gas, and tried on tons of bras until I found my new favorite.

I can tell the bloating from a few days ago is gone, this is definitely water retention. 2 Doc appointments today so lots of driving (they're about an hour from home and an hour apart so a little triangle of travel for me). Previous Day's Comments8/20 - I'm not entirely sure what is going on. Pizza usually doesn't cause this big of an uptick, but maybe today was one of those odd days? No run, I tossed and turned last night so didn't force myself up early. Feel better sleeping in that little bit, though. Pushing water for sure, to get this weight back down. I remember when I was so excited to see 146.9! Now it's a "high" weight. Crazy how time has changed haha I'm just happy I've stayed out of the 150s.

8/22 - Day 2 no TMI. Also spent Friday and Saturday sweating faster than I could drink water. I gave it a good try to keep up, but I know I didn't. That's alright. Commuting into work, have my bento I'm about to go prepare while I know I can for lunch tomorrow. Full of portion controlled yum. Will have water. Tomorrow is a research day so should be able to keep cool and replenish water.
8/23 - Back down a little thanks to a ton of water. Definitely a super late salty dinner. Our friend's step mom passed and we went to her memorial so dinner was served about 30 minutes before I went to bed. Slept horribly, too. Not looking forward to today. Oh well. Such is life, I chose to commute. Hard thing is that I'm not accustomed to the early mornings yet. Will try to make steps while doing research. We shall see what today holds.
8/24 - Slowly creeping down. Wish I didn't have to eat so close to bed, I definitely notice the increase in bloat in the mornings due to it. Oh well, what can you do? Dinner is a family affair so fasting through it isn't exactly an option around here. Water at 90oz yesterday and food was good. Dinner a bit salty (BF cooked an asian-inspired dish) but was very delicious. Thankful he cooks (: Hopefully I just have today and tomorrow to commute
8/25 - My scale tried to scare me with popping up at 152.2 at first. Then 174.5 and finally 174.4. Whew. I was VERY bloated out of nowhere yesterday. Not sure what caused it at all and it lasted through the day. Still feel a little bit of it, but not nearly as bad as yesterday. Hopefully that'll stay away today. Not sure I hit the full 90oz, but did drink quite a bit of water. Guessing minimum of 75oz. Today will determine if I commute tomorrow so hoping for a very productive day.
8/26 - Still not sure why my weight is trending a bit high this round. I got rid of the last of the bloated feeling yesterday and feeling much lighter today. Working from home, I managed to finish everything I needed at work yesterday and focusing on the computer stuff today. Just went for a 1 mile run. Ankle little achy, but not as bad as last week. Hip is tight, though, so I cut it short so I could stretch instead of going for 1.5 or 2 miles and possibly causing issues. Lunch is already made up for me (carrots and hummus, strawberries, red pepper and kielbasa dish) Unsure on dinner but BF has been adding veggies to the sides this week, thankfully. Now time to catch up on everyone's posts! Lots of reading to do

8/20 DNW - On vacation - still tracking and trying to stay under maintenance calorie levels. Lots of walking and good fun.
8/21 DNW - We’ve been hiking, but not exercising at my usual intensity. I’m really going to be interested to see how I’ve managed without a scale to keep me on track. I won’t be weighing in until Tuesday.
8/22 DNW - Still on vacation. I had my indulgence meal yesterday. Today we are kayaking. I’m really looking forward to it!
8/23 DNW - Final day of vacation. I’ll be weighing in tomorrow. Overall, my eating has been pretty good…under maintenance levels for most days. Keeping my fingers crossed. We have been walking and hiking. Kayaking was cancelled due to high water levels.
8/24 235.6 (-1.4) I’m thrilled to be down almost a pound and a half after visiting my son and being off my usual routine. Hiking every day, limited eating out and logging most meals was really helpful. My son was really encouraging me to stay on track and was happy making meal decisions based on what I needed. It's great to have such wonderful support.
8/25 235 (-2.0) Yay! Officially down 10% of my body weight. The pool where I was swimming closed for the season and hours are really limited at other pools so I need to reevaluate and adapt my exercise plan. My local indoor pool opens in late September. I’ve really enjoyed swimming and want to continue. Until then, it might be Orange Theory Fitness and hiking on the weekends, pending weather.
8/26 235.6 (-1.4) A little bit of a bounce after eating later than usual yesterday and I’m not sure I drank enough water. I’ll fix that today.
8/27 235 (-2.0) I did my research and found an indoor pool that will work. Yesterday, for the last time this year, I swam outside at a pool that opened later in the afternoon. They only had two lap lanes, so I was sharing a lane. I’ve never done that before and I was a bit nervous since I’m not an experienced lap swimmer, but it worked out okay. I was previously swimming for an hour, but needed to limit my time to a half hour. Still glad I made it and got in a good workout. Today is my indulgence meal, so I’ll see a bit of a bump in the next few days.

8/20 - 248.9 Today marks the 4 month anniversary of me starting this journey. I had hoped to be lower after seeing 246 on the scale earlier this week but my body had other plans. Still being down 50 lbs in 4 months is nothing to be upset about.

8/23 - 244.9 The usual weekend fall strikes again! Sometimes I wish I had a manual labor job so that I could get calorie burns from work rather than just sitting at a desk all day. I spread 1/2 ton of top soil and then mowed the lawn after. Last year I couldn't mow my entire lawn at one time, now I'm doing it after doing other work. I'm also starting to really feel more comfortable with my body. Still a long way to go but I'm not embarrassed to go places anymore and I'm excited to have nicer clothes!
8/24 - 246.0 Just how Mondays are always low, Tuesdays and the rest of the week are always high. Sitting around at work all day really takes its toll I guess. This was pretty disappointing to be honest. I just want to be out of the 240s and I keep bouncing around here.
8/25 - 246.5 Yeah this trend is really annoying. Looking back at last week, I'm down 2.5 lbs but I have no idea how I'm going up during the week. I'm doing everything right and the scale just doesn't cooperate. I know not to put much stock in the number on the scale but psychologically it's not the best start to the day when I know I've done everything right.
8/26 - 244.1 So I don't know what caused this but I guess I was storing a lot of water. I had to go to the bathroom every hour for 6 straight hours yesterday. That on top of running 4 miles since my last weigh in made this possible. Feeling a lot happier today because of this # now I just need consistency tomorrow!

I got the scale as that is how everything was calculated and measured with the app. I seem to move around 166.3 one day, 165.5 the next. For now I am rounding to the nearest pound as either my scale is faulty or I am as that seems like a lot of fluctuation!. I have been drinking a ridiculous amount of water (for me) so that is a plus this week!

8/20--210.3 Went to see my trainer yesterday. Today I took the day off from work and I am going to do some things around the house and then go for a massage.
8/21--209.4 Back to my pre-getaway weight from 2 weeks ago. Plan for today is to go for a hike with hubby and the dog, but it may rain this morning so plans may change.
8/22--209.6 Went out for a great hike yesterday. It was puppy's hardest hike and she did great. 8/25: 166.7 - 80 oz water past 2 days. It seems to be easier to get 80oz down. All carbs were from vegetables, which is the case most days since I've stopped wheat products for now.
8/26: 165.9 - Another good drop. This calorie cycling is working for me. After my high day (1840), I've been tracking my average calories and now back to around an average of 1250. I have a problem with bingeing, and eating more just one day can throw me off for days where I continue to eat more and more as if I blew it, which of course isn't the case, but it's mind games. By having higher "controlled" calorie days where I counter it (and track it) the other days and see my average calories going down really helps - that and choosing wisely and not a lot of carbs or sugar, which will set me off on a week/month binge. Eventually, I won't have to track it, but for now, it helps me.

8/20 - stayed with calorie budget for today and logged everything. Increased my water intake slightly but still need to work on getting better.
8/21 - not a great day. Went over calorie budget by quite a bit🤦♀️Managed to drink a ton of water tho😁 Will have a better day tomorrow 🤞

08/20 - 162.8 STEPS -19,850. Big drop from yesterday, hopefully that's the water weight from all the camping activities leaving. Didn't eat enough yesterday and lots of walking so I expect a bounce back up tomorrow. Not going to adjust Round GW just yet. Feeling tired today as only 4 hours sleep so it's going to be a slog to get the steps in.
08/21 - 163.2 STEPS - 10,771. Had more fibre than usual yesterday and not enough water so am not surprised to be back up a bit. Still below goal but no unhatched chickens counted yet. Rainy day and lots of housework so getting my steps in might be tricky.
08/22 - 161.0 STEPS 1,635. Really poor performance on the steps yesterday as I was stuck indoors on the computer all day. Not great with the food and drink either so I'm shocked to see another big drop today! I must've been holding on to a lot of water. Glad to be back at a weight from ten days ago, fingers crossed it doesn't swing back up again too far tomorrow!
08/23 - 162.2 STEPS 7,090. A little short of my walking target yesterday, went for a lovely walk in the woods but felt really sleepy when I got home so spent the rest of the day watching movies. Food was on point but I did have some yoghurt and granola before bed and I wouldn't usually have carbs in the evening which may account for the uptick on the scales. Waiting on a call from the GP to discuss concerns I have with my heart, really nervous as I don't know if I'll be able to communicate my symptoms over the phone. Once the call is done I'm going for a walk in the sunshine to release the tension.
08/24 - 161.2 STEPS 11,700. Good day yesterday all in all. Went for a 3 mile walk in the evening around my town and discovered some parts I'd not seen before. Felt slightly unsafe walking alone in the evening though, I guess this is one reason why people get dogs. Cats don't care! My birthday is coming up this Saturday and I'm off to London to visit my bro for a few nights then pub lunch and cinema on Sunday, it's gonna be a challenge to keep on track! On the last day of this challenge I will be away from the scales so will have to wait until Monday to weigh in.
08/25 - 160.4 STEPS 10,419. Another good day and another drop, so close to the 150s! Went for an evening walk again after spending a lot of the day in the car. I'm finding I need to fit in at least a one hour walk each day to achieve my steps goal in top of my normal steps activity. I think I need to get up earlier and go for a short morning walk before the rest of the house wakes up. Snacking in the evening of yoghurt and granola and ham and cheese didn't seem to have a bad impact, surprised at that.
08/26 - 160.0 STEPS 12,520. Yay, I hit my first mini goal today, 20lbs lost! Yesterday was a really good day, busy all day and I had lots of energy. I think all the extra walking is doing me a world of good, I don't feel breathless and sluggish anymore, I'm sleeping much better and getting more done. I read a thread this morning about ways to up your NEAT and have been consciously trying to keep my body moving by taking the longer route to get to places and avoiding multi tasking so I have to do more trips around the house. I'm also trying to stand still and sit down less, pacing when I am looking at my phone and putting things away when they are done with rather than piling things up to deal with later. So far I have walked .... today and it's only 1 30pm!
Hopefully I won't have to walk for 1.5 hours this evening to get my steps in if I don't want to.
08/27 - 160.4 STEPS 10,866 Started off as a really good day calorie wise but ended at the pub followed by burger van on the way home, whoops! Had a cheese burger but left the bun and had a box of salad with it, not too 'naughty'. Paying for it this morning with a bad head and a 0.4 gain. Oh well, I had fun! Just got to resist the urge to have a lazy day today.
08/28 - 161.0 STEPS 4,411 Upswing, sigh. I had a low energy day yesterday and didn't manage much other than cooking and housework. I really missed going for my walk. Think I'm retaining water again as my ankles look puffy. It's my birthday today and I'm going to my brother's for a couple of nights. They're very foody people and will no doubt be putting on a spread. How do I politely decline having a piece of everything offered? It's actually giving me anxiety the idea of not having control over what I can eat and when. I could just say f it, it's my birthday and one or two days of excess won't matter in the long run but the whole of August I've been going back and forth over the same 8 pounds and really wanted to start September on a new low. I guess I just need to relax a bit.

8/28. . .158.5. . .sweet! I love those rare days when I apparently drop a whole pound overnight. The hot weather has broken and I am just finishing my smoothie and then I will go jogging. I've already looked after all the critters. I'll be getting some hay off the field today, probably the last of the year (I get hay out of the barn after this, which costs $1 more per bale, but I have only so much storage space. Hay is bulky!) My mares were out lying in the cool sunshine this morning waiting for their breakfasts. I don't think that they've laid down outside since their protector, Royal, the gelding, died last fall. He would have given his life to protect them, or to protect me, for that matter. Had lunch with a friend yesterday I haven't seen since before covid and that was fun. All my summer chem students are through their chem exam except one and I don't seem able to impress the fact on her that she's got to get the freaking thing done asap (it's online and since she's in Japan I'm not making her stick to the time frame that the other local students adhered to.) Have a great weekend everybody. I'm hoping to break a (personal) land speed record with my jog this morning!
