December 2021 Monthly Running Challenge

WARNING: Following this thread may be addictive; it gets very talkative...miss a day and you can be 50 posts behind. This is the most popular challenge on MFP. If you found us in the middle (or end) of the month, you're still very welcome to join in - no requirements or special invite needed. Once you post, that's it you're in. And yes, we do this every month.
You set your own pace and distance for the month. We will all be doing it together. This is your virtual running group to help keep you accountable, to enjoy a virtual post-run coffee with your fellow runners, and to make new friends and learn a few things.

We have members ranging from total beginners all the way to Boston Qualifiers and beyond. We are a friendly and encouraging bunch. You never need to be ashamed of your miles. If you are making the effort, you will find only support here.
Here are the details from last month that apply again:
Anybody want to join in for a running challenge? Set a goal here and update us every day. OPTIONAL: You can post your progress by creating a ticker at http://www.tickerfactory.com (if creating one seems difficult, or you're like me and can't be bothered, then just type in your daily miles in this thread).
You can run, walk, or do treadmill - just be consistent. Don't let the high (or low) goals of others intimidate you. Some do 25 miles, others do 50, some go higher than that, some do lower; it's entirely your goal and therefore completely up to you. We help motivate each other, so what do you say? If you're new to running, set a low goal. If you're from a part of the world where miles aren't your thing, log your distances in KMs. And if you'd rather log your progress by time rather than distance, then you're entirely free to do that as well.
Feel free to set your goal now but wait until October 1, 2021 to start logging your runs!

After you run, come into this thread and post what you did (don't forget to hit the star in the upper right corner to bookmark this thread). Simply keep a running tally of what you've done this month, and interact with the others. Many folks come in here and chit-chat it up, even on their rest days or while recouping from injury. This is a very social group and we talk about many things (sometimes even about running). It's a very friendly bunch here so don't be afraid to say hi (even if this is your first time), talk about a recent or up-coming race, ask questions, provide answers, or just lurk-n-learn. Participation is what makes this group successful.
Not quite sure how to log your runs? Follow the examples of many other challenge members. Even take a peek at last month's thread (posted above).

Info on tickers since I know there will be questions. Sign up for an account at http://www.tickerfactory.com and create your ticker. Then you need to update it after you finish a run and post it here. Here is what you will need to do.
After setting up your ticker, you will need to make note of the weblink they give you so you can return. An example would be:
http://www.tickerfactory.com/exercise/w6K1EiX/ <<<< the last part will be a part of the image link (explained below) that will be supplied to you after you initially create your link.
When you return to TickerFactory with the weblink, go to your settings page. Make sure you type your PIN in that you set when you created your ticker account. Then, where it says "Your current cumulative value", there is an add button. Simply add the distance that you just did, and the cumulative value automatically changes. Then hit next.
After adding your new miles (or KMs) to your ticker, you need to post it here.
After you hit next, it will give you a bunch of codes suggesting how to display your ticker.
Use the one at the bottom where it says Direct Image URL:
It will look something like:
http://tickers.TickerFactory.com/ezt/t/w6K1EiX/exercise.png
To display that correctly in your post, make sure you place the image (img) tags around that link. So it will look something like the following (but removing the spaces in the img tags):
[ img ] http://tickers.TickerFactory.com/ezt/t/w6K1EiX/exercise.png [ /img ]
^^^^^^^ Don't forget to remove the spaces between the brackets ^^^^^^^^^^
Some key things to pay attention to when posting your ticker:
Use the link that ends in .png
Remember the [ img] and [ /img] tags go in between the link
Remove the spaces in the img tags before posting
YES, there is a / in the second /img tag
By the way, everyone here should consider themselves a runner no matter how fast or slow. There's no judgment, we all started somewhere. And no comparisons, except with your former self. Don't compare your Chapter 1 to somebody else’s Chapter 20.

For the first time in a looooong time, I'm not setting a distance goal this month. I need to follow what my body is ready for. Anything over 40k will be an improvement from November 😳

I'm in for 45 miles. Lower goal that last month, but I suspect between the weather and holiday travels I'm going to see fewer opportunities to run outside. T'is the time of year to shift from 4 running days a week to 3, and add an extra strength day into the mix.9

I’m in for 98 miles based on my plan. I’m just going to round that to 100 miles. I am usually pretty close to my plan so I probably won’t make 100, but it’s so close I just can’t leave it!9

My goal is to complete my assigned training runs. Since I can only see a week in advance, I have no idea how many miles it will be.7

I am going for 80 miles with a stretch goal of 100. I can't think of anything on our calendar that should keep me from running more consistently.8 -

I would like to get 110 miles, because this has been a very low year for running miles and that would be my highest mileage month. It's been a weird year for me personally, with a few highs and a lot of lows so I could use a boost by ending the year on a high note.
I may require a kick in the pants and a few reminders that I said this along the way.6 -

This will (continue) to be a recovery / re-building month. No mileage goal, just try to get healthy enough to run without pain starting January 1.8 -

Setting my target low this month. Goal to finish 2021 Run the Year (94.3 miles to go) and run ALL of them under a 10 minute pace. Speed over Distance this month.

What the heck. I'm going to say 100 miles again for December. I may not make it due to the holidays and the weather, but I'm still going to try.7

Well, I’m still here, but given that the earliest appointment with a cardio they would give me is the 22nd and that I don’t know what is causing my tachycardia I don’t know what I’ll be doing. Goal is to somehow stay fit and earn enough calories to eat food over the holidays, while not dropping dead because that would be a bummer for my family. Secondary goal, to try to keep a positive attitude somehow.

@Orphia I'm so glad to see you're getting back to it. Great goal! I remember when you ran 50k, and I knew I wanted to do it to.
@rheddmobile so sorry you have to wait so long. Has the heart rate done anything weird since the day you were in the ER? How are you feeling otherwise?
I had to pick up packages from the parcel locker (there's a new one probably 400 meters from my house) so grabbed a backpack and ran there, only to find 2 guys working on it who told me it was broken. Would help if I paid attention to my notifications. Oh well, I ran up the hill and took a longer way home, then went back a little later with a side trip to the other parcel locker first. Total 3.5 km and it was the first time since getting sick that running has actually felt good. Plus I felt like Santa Claus running with all of my packages in and on the backpack. 🎄
For now I'm not so worried about distances, just want to get back into the habit of running most days.10 -

Milky sun through high hazy clouds, low 30s F, and little wind this morning. Some icy patches, but the worst part was the frozen bumpy snow on the footbridges. Felt like a rolled ankle looking for a place to happen. Saw the runner who is half my height and twice my speed; left the worst of the bridges to her alone when I met her on my second lap.
When you pop in here claiming your December 2021 mileage, what accomplishments will you have made?

I started December off with 5 miles this morning. It was another really nice morning for running. It was an uneventful run, but the weather was just right. I wish it would stay like this all winter. 😊
@rheddmobile I hope you can get some answers soon. That is just awful, and the extra stress can't be helping.

@rheddmobile no dropping dead that would also be a bummer for us too. It’s insane to think “hello I’m having heart issues” “okay we can see you a month from now” what a shame
@polskagirl01 I hate when I mess that up with a typo I think the same thing “I know the difference, certainly you all know I know the difference”.
@kgirlhart I agree on the weather, it was so pretty here too this morning. Chilly but zero zip no wind, simply perfection.

Setting my goal at 100 miles minimum, 110 stretch, and 125 really stretch goal. I don’t have any travel plans and with the holidays I will probably have more time to run but you never know about our December weather. Started off the day with 5 slow miles this morning.

5.32 Miles this morning. My usual run is at a lakefront park. About 1.6 miles is lit by streetlights and I try to do 3 "laps."
The entire park has 2.5 miles of lake frontage. I enjoy being there early and seeing the sunrise when I run. Like today. The temperature this morning was 40F with calm winds. A pleasant morning to be there.
@rheddmobile I send you good vibes for a good outcome, but the waiting and stress must be brutal.7
