Bahaaaa @polskagirl01 everyone is off to the side trying to avoid the mud, and you are the only one going straight through it!!!!!2
-
@polskagirl01 Nice pic. You can tell that you spend a lot of time on trails! Not worried about the mud at all. And, I'm a radiologist, so writing (and deciphering other people's) imaging reports is literally my job.6

Back up and running with the internet finally! It was a trial to get a person on the phone and then get a technician to come to my house. Turns out the problem was NOT at my house at all, and was something down the street which they eventually tracked down. Sounds like someone messed with things and screwed up my service.
Just a treadmill run before strength training today again. It was a nice day but ran out of time to run outside before dark (because of waiting for the internet to be fixed).
A pic from the race on Saturday - not sure what lap this is but it's early on. The guy in front with his arms up was very interesting. He's done a few ultras including one in I think Zimbabwe - it was through some wildlife preserve that sounded very cool. And crazy. I like that my feet are hovering above the ground here too.6 -
Thanks @martaindale, @teresa502 and @Scott6255! I am feeling a bit better. No run though. I got all dressed and a series of issues kept me at home and then I just decided it was for the best and did a light strength workout at home. I will get out tomorrow for a run before the rain moves in. I am still sore all over but my joints no longer hurt. I was a bit worried yesterday because it felt like when I had rheumatic fever as a kid. I don't think I have been exposed to strep so I doubt it could be that again.
@run_sara_run - I can't run on a treadmill. Mostly because what drives me to run is getting outside and if I had to do it all inside on a machine, well I just wouldn't. I know you can get those miles in though, you've got this!
@polskagirl01 - you had quite the busy weekend! It is awesome that your kids are involved and running too. Love that your son ran in the yard and still got all his swag even though he couldn't be at the race! I hope he is feeling ok!
I also love that you are running straight through the mud! Mobycarp would be proud ❤️
@martaindale - great explanation of @quilteryoyo's diagnosis. I don't understand why more doctors don't spend the time to walk through it like that with patients.
Speaking of radiologists, has anyone heard from @Avidkeo lately?
@katharmonic - love it when they catch you with both feet off the ground! It is fun the people you meet at races and hearing about other races and places they have run. It is such a great community!4 -
What about @ContraryMaryMary? I haven't seen her in a while.2

Low 30s F today with no wind at all. Started off dark and cloudy, but the clouds dissipated and it turned into a mostly sunny morning.
When you pop in here claiming your December 2021 mileage, what accomplishments will you have made?
PUT THE FUN BACK IN THE RUN!

@run_sara_run Remind me why you're doing so much treadmill time? Was it weather-related? I don't have much advice as I don't particularly enjoy the treadmill either, but having something to watch sometimes helps.
@polskagirl01 Mostly weather and darkness related. Most weekdays I can only get my run in after my kiddos bedtime which is so it's dark (and now cold) so I just cave and do the treadmill. I have lights, etc. but I have a really hard time choosing outside unless I have a friend to run with. Treadmill just seems easier and safer and at least I can watch TV but it is getting to me. Hopefully with the kids of school and my husband off this upcoming week I will get a nice break from it.

I ran after work yesterday to enjoy the Christmas lights. We ended up with 5.15 miles but the overall pace was slow due to lots of stopping and starting. But, we had fun. Since I’m working from home today I waited until lunch to go out for a run. The temp was 43F but it’s one of those cloudy, dreary days that make it seem colder.
Great picture @katharmonic – in most of mine I look like I’m walking so I can relate to your comment!3 -

@katharmonic great job getting the monthly HM challenge completed. I have to do December, then I plan to finish the months I missed in the beginning of the year by continuing into Jan – Apr. I have in person HMs scheduled for February and April right now. Nice job on the backyard half. It’s funny because a half a month doesn’t sound like much, but even just the 7 I’ve done this month about doubled the number of halves I’ve done total. The ran through the lights sounds great. We have the Galaxy of Lights race here in November through the light display at the Botanical Gardens, one night is 5K with prizes and the next is 3K and they do more family things, like Santa and face painting etc.
@quilteryoyo I do have a good relationship with my boss. He’s a good guy. I’m so sorry you didn’t get better news on your back. Your doctor doesn’t seem too helpful. Can you see someone else? When I need a doctor I ask around in our running community, I want someone who doesn’t say “you’re 60 of course it hurts”. Hugs I agree with everything @rheddmobile said
@SummerSkier super job on the miles and pace this year!
@kgirlhart I’m like you 60F one day 30F next day…make up your mind weather. I would never wear that much in 31…depending on the wind. No wind I would wear tank with light fleece over, capris and gloves. No hat if not windy. Gloves will be off by mile 2 LOL If it’s sunny out I might do shorts too. Now I’m running at 5:00 am in the dark so it feels chillier some days. I’m in for RYT 2022 a team would be great.
@Scott6255 nice long run
I’m sitting at my desk in the new “trailer” laughing, the lights are on motion sensors, guess I’m not moving enough for them. I’m all alone in the trailer in the dark except for my screen light.
@martaindale everyone loves new shoes!! Our community has runs like every day, morning and night, week days and weekends. You can always find someone running somewhere and they are always welcoming and fun low key.
@Teresa502 great picture, what a beautiful tree
@polskagirl01 why are those silly people on the sides trying to get out of the mud LOL We laugh so hard 2 years ago I did a 10K trail and it was pouring, I mean pouring, everyone was trying to stay up on the sides and I was splash splash down the middle. You are wet already just carry on. I passed like 25 people ha ha!
@shanaber glad to hear you are feeling better.
So not running related but too sweet not to share with my friends here who has helped me raise Skip. Her boyfriend who is 5.5 hours away still at their school says can you send me a picture of your Christmas lights. She opens the front door and yells mom the lights are out, she goes out to fix them and comes back in and gets a snap chat from him. It's a video of her outside fixing the lights, she runs to the door and all I heard is her screaming his name. Surprise he drove up to surprise her. Ah young love is so sweet. She did expect him but not until tomorrow. Naturally I'm looking out the window and she said why are you here, he said I missed you...ah makes a momma's heart happy. I didn't have the heart to tell her it's scary that she didn't see someone take a video of her from our driveway LOL10 -
7 miles this evening. Hoped to make it a slow easy run of at least 9:30 pace. Started slow, but then it creeped up toward threshold pace. HAVE to try to slow down for the sake of my aging body! But at least my average HR is going down (now back into the 120s)
December total: 53 miles.4 -
Ah, @skippygirlsmom that's so sweet about Skip's boyfriend showing up to surprise her. Good luck finishing up your HM challenge. You did so great considering the injury! I know, the number of half marathons really added up. I may keep it going into next year. I haven't decided on goals yet but I think without this goal I may have really stopped doing long runs this year and ended up with an even more abysmal total mileage.

I had such a plan to get to the gym early and once again ended up short on time, so I did a treadmill run in two parts today. About 15 minutes before yoga and the rest after.

I ran 5 miles this morning and that officially got me to my RTY goal of 2021 miles in 2021. I was pretty excited about hitting that goal. It was pretty cold this morning at around 32°F which is not my favorite. But it was still a really pretty morning. The moon was big and bright. And I enjoyed the run.
Congratulations on getting all 12 Half Marathons this year @katharmonic!
Does any one else want to join @skippygirlsmom and I in the Run the Year challenge? The tracker is open and I believe we can start setting up teams for next year.
It looks like our Run the World team is not quite going to make our goal. 😔

I don't know that I will have enough mileage for your team @kgirlhart but if you'll have me I will join your team.
@skippygirlsmom - love thee surprise for the skippygirl.
I got out for a Sleasy run today while it was cloudy and cool. I am still hurting but I managed through it. Not sure what is going on with this but I don't like it. It isn't muscle pain, just all over achiness under my skin that hurts with every step. My calves were pretty tight when I got back so I used the massager on my calves and hips and that seemed to help.5 -
@kgirlhart Congratulations on running the year in miles!!!
I got the kids started on school and went out for a nice snowy run. I had a gdneral route in mind, but when I got to a certain intersection, I was fdeling good and turned the other way to make it little longer. I actually stopped my watch at 9.99 km (and an overall pace 1-2 seconds/km slower than I would've prefered, although that included stopping for pictures) on purpose, even though running on down the hill would've fixed both numbers.
Listened to a podcast that could start some interesting discussion here! The link I copied while running, before the podcast disappeared from my app, didn't work, so just go into your podcast player and find Trail Runner Nation episode 545 "Survey results are in! Mental health and running". I felt like this research was missing some major factors that affect the issue, but it's a great starting point. If anyone listens, share your thoughts!

Cloudy, low 30s F today, with a gusty west wind pushing around the occasional snowflake. Left knee really hurt starting out, but I gave it awhile and the pain was gone by the end of the first kilometer. Saw a wooly bear caterpillar with just a tiny orange stripe across the middle.
@kgirlhart Congratulations on running the year!!!!

Kept is sleasy this morning on my neighborhood trail. Saw my trail friends and a lovely sunrise. It was still chilly this morning, but today is the beginning of the warmup. It will be about 12 degrees warmer at the same time tomorrow morning. Still nice running temps though I will be back in shorts. Booo. I really like running in leggings. The compression feels nice but I get warm so easily I only get to wear them a couple months a year here.4 -
Gosh hard to keep up this week for some reason!
106.94 miles Dec to date out of 100 planned.
My streak of miles under 10 pace continues but oddly enough on Monday I discovered that my watch GPS actually calculates differently based on HOW I tell it to track the run. I accidently told it to use time vs just turning it on and the first mile I had to run an extra .2 to finish. I was HOOFING it to get under a 10 min pace. I ended up doing 3 and then decided to stop that session and start a new one using my normal method for the last mile or so. GPS returned to normal. But I never got my ,2 back.
