Michele ~ Maybe you need to hire a different landscaper. I can't say much because I have tried to get our lawn guy to cut back some rose of sharon bushes that are dragging on the ground and he just says he will do it but it doesn't get done.
Started cleaning the wood cabinets in my kitchen today and am going to use a product called Rejuvenate tomorrow. I tried it on one drawer and it looked brand new.
Question: Our ceilings are not pop corn but they have swirl patterns in them that catch dust from the overhead fans. Does anyone know how to easily get the dust off?
Welcome to all who are visiting!

Hi Gals,
Still hanging in here, beginning to get my head around the mess…and it seems every time I get a bit closer something sends my head a spinning again. Right now I am fighting the insurance companies to cover mental health care as my policy says they will….I know there is no perfect health care system but this one is broken.
My Mom is coming to visit for Thursday-Monday a good break for her, and it is over Mom’s day here in the states. I need to come up with a gift.. I will make all the meals and she is very picky, but it’s not like she doesn’t deserve the break. Breakfast is easy 1 piece of dry toast, 3 brown and serve sausage and fruit. It is more complicated when it comes to dinners. And part of it is that she will come with a hidden stash of chocolate candy which she will nibble on, and then when I have extra vegetables at a meal she will tell me I shouldn’t eat so much. It takes a lot of veggies to equal the 3-400 calories of chocolate she has eaten in a day… But if I explain it there are tears…. So deep breathing and let it go will be my friend during the visit. I am hoping to plan at least one make ahead meal. She likes plain things and over boiled veggies… think 1950….
I will practice deep breathing as I make the shopping list. LOL
Sending love to all.

Carol GA – I did contact another landscaper. I’ve been very impressed with his work at my neighbor’s and also at the Green Room. I told him up front that I’m not looking for someone to cut the grass, I actually enjoy doing that. What I do need help with is knowing what plants will do well in a certain area given my requirements (for example, a flowering evergreen that doesn’t grow above 4 to 5 feet high). That I need help with and evidently he and his son have gone to school for that. I’ve used Rejuvenate on my floors, just wish it would last. But they did look nice at first.
Jess is selling one of her beds. I would take it in a heartbeat for the condo, it would match real well (it’s white) and what I like is that it has drawers on the bottom and storage space at the condo is at a premium. The only problem is that it’s a double and I need a queen. Oh well, maybe I’ll find one like it in a queen on Craigslist or someplace like that.
Time for bed. I will be able to do a little exercise tomorrow a.m. How I'm looking forward to being able to exercise almost every day for the next week! Crazy, huh? I actually look forward to being able to exercise!

Barbara - I grew up with plaster walls so could never hang anything unless it was taped. I learned how to repair and cover holes in our first rental. I think pictures and such on the walls make things feel more cozy. Rodger just shakes his head and let’s me go. I’ve been trying to think of how to rearrange some furniture, it would involve moving the heavy art piece plus the wall hung tv. I will make sure it’s what I want before making that request. Rodger drive truck for the 8 years of our early married life, if I wanted things done I had to do it.
My Mother would not do anything without my father. Dad taught me to do for myself, Mom just wasn’t interested. I always found it funny because my Grandmother, her mother, had her own tool drawer and did things herself.
Carla - my brother’s name is Harley and it was my Grandfather’s name. I have a hard time not picturing them when you say Harley.
Vicki - I agree that Michele is a blessing for Jerry. I think she came into his life for a reason. She’s teaching him a lot.
Annie - I would be like your Mom, rereading books is like visiting old friends. I just started a book last night that is probably the 4th time.
Michele - I admire your patience. I think it’s a shame Denise is missing Jess’ graduation. One day she may regret how she is pushing her family to the side.
I have been wanting my husband to build a bed with drawers for us. It would make a huge difference for storage in our bedroom.
Kim - I hope you have a peaceful weekend despite the pickiness and food dilemma. I am a very picky eater so I’m sure my girls will one day be complaining about me. Although they do know if they make KD for me I would be happy.
I watched the American Idol special tonight, they brought winners from the last 20 seasons to sing duets. I was not a big fan of the show when Simon Cowell was on it and didn’t watch it regularly. My Dad was a huge fan. The year that Scotty McReery and Lauren Alaina were on it was the last season he watched. Every week he would ask me if I had watched it, so much that I ended up watching the last few episodes. Tonight they performed together and I cried through the whole song because Dad would have enjoyed it so much. I have followed their careers and they have both been quite successful.
I’ve been teary a lot lately, I’m not sure what is going on. Maybe I just need a vacation.

I can't remember the last time I saw American Idol ... probably 2008 or 2009.
Just looked it up. The last one I saw was in 2009 when Adam Lambert was there.

2022 GoalsMy 2022 goals are a continuation of my 2021 goals.
Upcoming Appointments
Education/Career
Medical
House
Office
Computer
Garden
Spiritual
Fitness/Sports
Cycling
Audax Tasmania
Recreation
House > Office > Computer become more specific as they go along. I have a number of thing which need to be done in the house (sleeping room, dining room, etc.) but most importantly the home office needs a whole lot of work. And along with that I need to organise the drives on my computer into a better filing system.
The goal is to have an organised and decluttered house.
Progress: Crawling forward.
Fitness/Sports > Cycling > Audax Tasmania also become more specific as they go along. There are a number of fitness/sport things I'd like to try, with a focus on cycling, and a large part of my cycling endeavours includes my volunteer work with Audax Tasmania ... and maybe even riding some events again myself!
The goal it to improve my fitness level.
Progress: Not bad. I've been active but the paperwork side of my sport is sliding a bit.
Garden is a very small category because that's my husband's domain but I'd like to finish weeding the place and get some flowers and other plants going to choke out the weeds.
The goal is to have a relaxing and functional area outside for reading, exercise and socialising.
Progress: Making progress!!
Medical is mostly my husband's appointments, which I also need to attend because I'm his ears and cognition.
The goal is to keep him as healthy as he can be.
Progress: Slow and steady.
Education/Career ... little things like becoming really good at SQL, brushing up on VB, and learning data analysis software.
The goal is to expand my skillset.
Progress: Making progress with the new job!!
May! Looking ahead ...
FT Work - 4th month of new job.
PT Work as Legal Assistant most evenings and some days. Hahahaha. Kidding ... sort of.
Wonky bus schedules and might not be able to work from home this month.
But 4 days of work each week.
Lots of medical stuff!!
Cycling club event, advertising, paperwork, etc. ... which I've been saying I'll get to for a month now.
As much cycling and walking as I can toss into the mix.
Bit of beekeeping stuff.
A bit of gardening ... unfortunately I can't see the garden when I get home from work anymore.
And whatever I can accomplish from my To Do list.

We're a bit younger, I think.
And I'm not sure how much I'm actually getting done. I look around and see a whole lot of started, but not completed, projects.
But I need to focus on certain things till the beginning of July, and squeeze extra things in whenever there's a gap.
On May 1, there was a small gap ...
One of our neighbours was moving and left various furniture items outside their place with a large sign that said, Free Take Me. I wasn't interested in most of it because we've got a whole lot of furniture anyway. But there was a small shelf that interested me and I grabbed it.
It holds a small portion of my tea very nicely.
I couldn't believe how much tea there was when I emptied the shelves and found it all!!
But I've got it set up now so that I can see most of it and hopefully I will work my way through it ... and not buy any more for a long time!!

Tracey, Is "KD" the same as macaroni and cheese?
Vicki, I am so glad you are getting that rain. Still in shock over the retired fire chief's death. Such a tragedy for that town...and for Nebraska. (((Hugs)))

Morning, afternoon and evening, my chickens...
Reading everything y'all write as always but am so distractable that my brain is not hanging on to all the posts I wanted to respond to... I do remember a few:
For those who are new, welcome once more, we're glad to meet you!
Tracey - Like you and Annie, I'm a re-reader of favorites. The only true benefit I've found in getting older is that I can pick up a book and not remember the ending. Especially mysteries. If I don't remember who the murderer is, I'm much more likely to read it. I'm sorry about the weepies, it may well be the rebound of the stress you've been under with that program. You probably do need a vacation!
Kim - What was your mother's reaction to your brother's lie about his health? Hope your time with her isn't filled with stress.
I'm absorbing my third cup of tea, and after moving things in and out and shifting everything, I might be able to finally finish my OCD room (office/ crafts/ dining) and take the "after" picture.
But right this minute, I just want breakfast...
Later y'all,
Love,
Lisa5 -
Bea pick up day. Last night was VERY short, so I'm fitting a nap in before we set off.

OH Tracey that just made me BURST out LAUGHING! I have the same problem whenever someone tells me their dog or cat is named Lacy or Lacey. Our oldest daughter is named after my husband's family... Lacy and it just doesn't seem right that someone would name a dog/cat/pet after my daughter!
Ah well, grands stopped by for their dirty (and three remaining clean) clothes last night. LOL Anne had a good trip. The team didn't win their game. First loss this season, but she had a good time and it was a lot warmer in Reno than it was here. Their last home game is this Saturday. Then two more road trips and hopefully the playoffs.
Supposed to get warmer this week. Maybe spring has finally, truly arrived in MN.

Good morning!
Machka, that tea assortment is impressive! Gosh you are busy!
Kim, thinking about you and your Mom's visit. Hope it's pleasant and you can have some meaningful - not stressful - conversation about your brother. If you want. Is Tim still in the picture?
Tracey, I hope that American Idol presentation with Scotty and Alaina is on Youtube. We haven't watched Idol in years - we no longer get the local TV feed, haven't for years since we switched to Roku TV. It's available, we don't want to spend the $$ and watch the continual ads, lol.
Michele - safe travels!
Pip - glad you are healing so nicely. Fingers crossed Yogi will be fine. Many years ago our livestock guardian dog - who lived in the barn and pasture with the sheep - had a growth inside her lip. We managed to load up that stinky girl into the car and haul her to the vet where they operated and removed it. Pronounced it a squamous cell tumor, but she lasted for years after that.
Lisa, Reed Timmerman the storm chaser once again announced a tornado spotted near Ft. Smith last night. I was going to post something but didn't want to sound like a broken record, lol. Was glad to see you posting today!
Vicki, glad to hear you are getting some rain. Hope it continues! My sis in N. Indiana says the rain doesn't let up and dry off enough that farmers can get in the fields. As time goes by I understand why my farmer Dad was always so stressed. I remember him picking corn on Thanksgiving Day.
When we moved here 15 years ago, my DH ended up being the neighborhood handyman. He was always helping the neighbors with big and small projects. They knew he was reliable and knew what he was doing, and he was glad to help. It's hard to find a handyman anymore who is as skilled as he was. So I am learning to do a lot myself, there's no one in the neighborhood anymore with the tools and know-how to help, and hiring someone off the internet is not reliable or safe. But I'm having fun and stretching my brain figuring stuff out.
Our sweet friends, Cynthia and Chuck, came out on Sunday and helped clean up brush and damaged trees from heavy snowfall we had a few weeks ago. DH wasn't able to help but sat on the bench outside for a while, watching. What a surprise when Chuck's dad pulled into the driveway, he and DH sat together for an hour and had some great conversation. DH was a Marine in Vietnam and Chuck's dad was a Seabee at that time. They've been acquaintances for many years. It did DH good to converse with a human that wasn't me for a change.
Ok better scoot for now. Have a great day ladies! Hugs to everyone and welcome new ladies!!

Good morning ladies!
Machka ooh that looks inviting! Tea is wonderful stuff for pampering yourself, and having a big selection does just that!
Kim I know it's a real struggle to cook for one's mother. Mine also likes plain food mostly heavy beef, no spices except salt, and a quarter cup of frozen mixed veggies. No cauliflower nor broccoli. No chicken. And every night they wonder why I do mine separately and eat early. Give it a shot and do your best, but don't kick yourself for compromising.
Well I'm off to buy groceries. I'm going to try some stevia for my plain yoghurt and my oatmeal. That ought to save some calories and tame some cravings. Sugar is sneaky and evil and has crept back into my habits.
I'm in a good mood because I found an interesting guy on OkCupid. I wish he lived closer. We shall see if he responds to my intro.
That balances the email I got from my book club leader. He wants to be more religious and wants us all to follow him into more heavy practice. My practice is fine now, thank you very much! I am holding space open for returning to yoga when my knee is stronger.
Have a great day!
