WOMEN AGES 50+ FOR AUGUST 2022

Happy August. I was off work from last Thursday until yesterday. I lost my voice Wednesday night. I did come in for about an hour Thursday morning, but not much I could do with no voice, so had to call someone to come in and work. It finally came back Sunday. This seems to happen when I am really stressed out. So taking lots of deep breaths and praying. Yesterday I did have to have a visit with one of my employee who is always so negative and nasty. Sure hope she got it. My new person starts next Tuesday so that will help I hope.
I did have my little procedure last Friday. Had to have it done at the surgery center as my insurance would not cover it, (lap band adjusted) and the hospital I work at wanted $1400. Doctor worked it out the surgery center only charged $150. He ended up sticking me 8 times and I do hope this works or the next step is a scope. Really having to watch what I eat now as not throwing up so far and the acid reflux has not woke me up at night.
Flea--Great news on the MRI and I agree. Cancer treatment has come a long way and so much more effective.
Beth--So sorry to hear about your dad. Sending prayers and hugs!!
Kelly--What caring you are doing for the family that lost their daughter and all your daycare children. I have a bear made out of my mom's pajamas and it means a lot to me.
Pip--Cute bike planter.
Heather--How Blessed your DGC are to have Johnny in their lives. The memories they are making. Reminds me of DH before he got sick last year.
Well I am up to August. Maybe will have sometime this afternoon.
Blessings, Vicki GRAND ISLAND, NE Where it is to be 100 this afternoon and almost there now.3 -
RV Rita — We are at our daughter’s home in Illinois. Our son in law drove our old Bounder from Oregon to Illinois. It handled the challenge well. We’re at their place and staying in our RV for now. We have looked and found a place we might enjoy. DH has not seen it yet. I’m keeping my fingers crossed hoping that we will like it.
Vicki— Congrats on your successful medical proceedure.
Flea— Excellent news on the MRI.
Three cheers for you. ❤️
Rita — Our Bounder is a thirty two. It was manufactured in 1998. We’ve had good luck with a good mechanic. 😊 It wasn’t cheap but is doing very well.2 -
Or I could wear something from my goth phase! Lol!
Ok it isn't really goth, but since my mother always told me never to wear black, it feels a bit rebellious. It's black and cream very summer weight, very comfortable. Very loose, with light weight khaki Capri pants. I could dig out my black sandals. Hmm. I tried to iron the pants but they still look rumpled.
The black and cream makes a better outfit, a more put-together look. Never mind the missing button, it won't show.

Finallly finished July and starting August.
Barbie thank you for your faithful, consistent leadership.
Katla, like Karen and others, I’m rejoicing to learn your DH was strong enough to fly with you to Illinois. ((hugs)) held extra extra long.
Tracey Scammers, ugh, spoofing local numbers, . I don’t pick up, if it’s someone who needs really needs me, they will leave a voice mail, and I can call them right back. Not many need me that urgently, in a way you are lucky to be so integral to so many!
“Rogers Outage” double ugh, gotta hate those “maintenance upgrades.” [shudder]
Welcome @sregino2014 Stacey in MD! Great goals!
Machka so glad to hear the new job is “good busy” and interesting. Con VERY grats on completing that year long every evening and weekend project. Bravissima!
Heather, Bea’s face says it all
Carla talking about not ready for fall, and Carol’s grands starting school, Aug 1, sheesh! We haven’t had summer yet here on the coast. Cucumbers and melons doing nothing, tomatoes bravely leafing and flowering (and a few tiny green fruits),, snow peas a few inches high, beets and carrots not yet with true leaves, radishes doing better. Shoulda planted lettuce. [sigh]
Rebecca I too like my gray streaks, very artful down from each side of widow’s peak. Now if only the rest of the hair would smooth out…
Rita congrats on the loose waisted pants!

Beth - so sorry to hear of your father’s passing. Prayers for peace and comfort.
Pip- I loved the bike you painted.
All the grands are getting so big and they are so accomplished.
Barbie- I hope your eye problem isn’t serious. We have spent a lot of time with retina specialists. Just remember there is a lot they can do these days that wasn’t available a few years ago.
Katla- so happy to hear your dh has joined you at your daughters. Hopefully, you will find a place that you love.
Still over 100 everyday. No rain. My only outlet is the hour I spend teaching aerobics.
Stay cool,

Karen - I love the horse picture. The pheasant reminds me of SD.
Katla - so glad you are settling in. Might there be a place for riding lessons near?
Heather - it is evident you are quite happy where you are now.
DGS is bringing a friend over for dinner. I am making it easy and having quesadillas for dinner. Everyone gets to pick what they want on theirs and my DD will man the quesadilla maker.
The pool was closed today because the pump is broken so I tried a short session of very low-impact aerobics. My ankle is not happy, won't do that again soon. Need to stick with the pool and PT.
Everyone take care, Sue in WA4 -

Oh, Beth, I am so very sorry. Hugs!
Barbie, good luck with the retina specialist. My DH saw one for a while after he had retinal tears from glaucoma. His next steps will be a glaucoma specialist. We have to go to Atlanta for that. He is not looking forward to it.
Welcome, Rosemarie! As Carol said, I am also a Georgia girl.

Karen I love the horse, too! Beautiful!
I did my dumbbells. Yay! But I ate too much. Oh well.
Annie in Delaware2 -
I’ve been reading along but not making notes.
I tested positive for Covid this evening. Except for being tired and a cough I feel fine. I’m just hoping DH doesn’t get it.
I can’t return to work until Monday.
I have lots I can do here to keep busy if I want.

At last, a tiny shift, July’s average weight down a smidgen to 139.7 from 140.8. Updated ticker for first since last September.
Lisa grandma union card hahaha! Does Levi know that if Mama kisses a frog it will turn into a prince?
Margaret great pic and good careful shopping job.
Sue glad your ankle is improving.
Karen gorgeous paintings, what a gift your brother has.
Katla, so glad to hear your DH is gaining strength. Missed you too! Enjoy the grands.
Debbie gorgeous veggies!
Allie it’s your love, not the you know what, that gravitates those babies to you. I have lots of you know what too, but babies scream at my approach. ;}
Rosemarie glad you have the respite of your writing group. Several writers on this thread (Annie, Heather, Lisa…)
Machka love “…I got to play in the database…” sounds like this new job has a strong element of fun. Hooray!
Thru Aug pg 4 but getting snoozy.

Phew! Exercise done this morning, it was hard work but thought I'd better get back to it now I am over my cold. It's already 21C here and getting hotter by the minute. At least there's a nice breeze which helps.
Had to call the doctor for my mum yesterday, she has a urine infection. I'll go by the chemist this morning to pick up her prescription.
Time for breakfast and thinking about healthy meals for today.
Take care and love to all

Went for my run. Had a chat at the deli with the owner's daughter about sticking with the 5k programme. She has got stuck on Level 3 of the app.
Then I edited the Postscript and the Introduction to my my book. It's ready to go. I've been really feeling all the things about publishing it, but I've been listening to inspiring podcasts and videos and I know I'll feel better once it's done. I just have to really take to heart the saying, "When you know better, you do better" and see my younger self with compassion. I hope the book will help others understand their own destructive patterns and bring about some healing.
Much love to all, Heather UK xxxxxxxx5 -
Hi All,
I have been battling with weight for over thirty years! I recently tried to "normalize" my eating instead of yo-yo dieting. Clearly, since I am back on MFP, it did not work. I have just crossed over the dreaded 180 mark which I swore I would never do again!
My knees hurt, I get out of breath at the tiniest bit of exertion and I basically feel like crap! To top it off, we are headed to Maine for three weeks and I always gain weight on vacation. If I gain this time, it will be really bleak.
So, here I am, re-committing to weight loss. I will check in here every day and keep my journal religiously. Ive done it before, I can do it again. Also, I will bring my scale to Maine so I dont trick myself with"everything is ok, I dont think I have gained" thinking!
Could use encouragement as I am feeling really angry with myself right now!
Thanks!10 -

Count me in for encouragement and support!
As a group, we are most welcoming, supportive & glad to help!
We have a lot of experience & wisdom, and care a great deal about each other.
I am so glad you have joined us.

Tracey - Hope you enjoy your covid 'vacation'. Don't be surprised if you feel a bit tired and low even when you are 'over' the covid. It will pass eventually if you take lots of rest.

@lacatgirl, keep coming back, daily if you can. It helps me to be connected to others who share my determination to be healthier. don't waste energy on being angry. just develop a plan that works for you and make it part of your life.

Good morning ladies!
My date cancelled. He's looking for an urgent care dentist instead. I'm kinda glad he cancelled, because if he can't talk and he can't eat, he's not much of a lunch date.
So I'm back to my yoga this morning. Or maybe this afternoon, I'm in no hurry.
Tracey, so sorry you caught Covid. Hope it passes quickly. Delaware is back to masks for indoor public settings.
Barbie, thanks for the new thread!
Heather good luck with your publishing! You inspire the rest of us writers.
I've got a new and improved plot outline for mine, but I'm still tweaking it. The middle is all about talking to suspects; it needs more action. Maybe a dental emergency! Lol
Annie in Delaware3 -
Love reading that Katla! DH is right there with you. ahhhhh... good times.
Boy, the humidity is just swamping out the entire US right now! Our ticks and skeeters aren't too bad this year, they say, Lisa. Grateful for that, but we NEED the rain so bad. My cousin has Lyme's from a bite years ago and it's just debilitating. He ended up retiring at like 40... I think.
We're doing the 90-100s here in MN too Vicki! Wtheck?!? It's just nasty everywhere!
Oh my Barbara! My friend in Cali has produce growing out of her ears! (pardon the pun). Her FB pictures every day are amazing. Is it just that the up the coast has been too cool? What gives?
So sorry Tracey. Hope the symptoms stay minor and you "keep it to yourself".
Welcome back lacatgirl! We're here for ya!
I had the WORST time getting in work-mode yesterday so I gotta put in some hours today. But when I finally did get into it I got something started so at least I'll know where to start today. So......... I'm off to work again today... right'chere, at this computer.
Love ya, Carla, in MN2 -
Good morning,
Would love to join here. I am back on MFP after a looong hiatus. I am refocusing my energies on me. My Daughter (and only child) who has been my main focus for 18 years is entering University in a few weeks and I am working on forging better habits to cope with the "Empty Nest" sadness I know I am going to go through. Would love suggestions on how to work though this without turning to food for comfort.
