Weight loss recidivism. Why O Why. You said the average person will lose weight 7 times during their lifetime.
Some will put themselves through drastic measures including WLS and eat it all back. Over and over and over again.
I've read the stats and percentages of those who are still standing after the 5 year mark.

Is it the handwriting on the wall for T2 diabetes down the road. Is it the precursor?
Rebound weight gain with friends. Is it linked to a higher risk of developing T2 diabetes. The rebound effect: a mechanism that links weight gain with diabetes. How do people untangle that and find weight stability.

I ALWAYS tend to blow my calories whenever I have to attend family events and it always is about food I don't get to eat very often. But I'm always prepared for it before and after by having a plan in place to ensure my weight doesn't spiral out of control.

On the flip side, there are people that lose money on DIETBET because they can't meet the mandatory percentage losses each month, BUT many still lose weight (according to community interaction). Of course those that just pay in and lose nothing, you don't tend to hear from.
Money isn't always the best motivator for some. A lot of times people are usually targeting weight loss for some event like a wedding, a vacation, a trip, etc. So they'll put in the work. Unfortunately, where I believe most people FAIL is AFTER because once they reach the goal they initially set, they DON'T have the next goal ready and let themselves relapse into old habits and end up regaining the weight they may have lost.

The half has not been told, your words of encouragement will follow me all of the days of my life. You need to write a book. @ninerbuff I'd carry it with me in my backpack. Now, I have to write these things in my field book and reread them, all of the time.1 -

Happened just a few minutes ago. A gentleman was leaving all his plates on every piece of equipment he was using. I let him know that reracking his weights was something he had to do because not everyone knows you're using the equipment and for some it may be too much for them to pull off themselves. That intern would DENY them usage of the equipment that they also pay a monthly fee for.
Well, I had t tell him a SECOND time within 20 minutes and he tried to lie saying he did, but I watched him (since guys like that tend not to really care) and approached him again saying that it was imperative that he does it. It's not a negotiation and he can look and see that everyone else is reracking their equipment. He gave me a stare and I asked if there was any questions. Then he actually went back and reracked the last set of plates he used.
Hate to do it that way, but sometimes it's the only way to get some to understand.

Less is more. The more concise, the more people think about your words. People say alot, but words matter. I don't want to remember a 4000 word term paper.
That person was taking it to the razor's edge, but you let them know your terms. Setting gym boundaries and holding them, keeps everyone safe. I respect the way you take care of the seniors. You're so right about ego lifting. Injuries ruin everything.0 -
@ninerbuff Setting boundaries. There are people who weaponize boundaries like it's an ultimatum. They will hold it over your head like a punishment. Reactive and overly charged. Emotionally activated at a high fever pitch.
It takes a successful communicator to maintain a balanced state without emotionally reacting to every situation.
Do you think fitness training helps you maintain balance? Martial arts and so on.0 -
@ninerbuff That campfire talk went UP in smoke. Do you remember when people started drinking cans of slim....fast. The old stuff was loaded to the gills with corn syrup. I couldn't understand why they wouldn't drink a carton of chocolate milk and call it good. Do you remember those weight loss candies. Corn syrup caramels and chocolates. My grandmother ate those. So did we, when she wasn't looking. Handfuls of them. I larded UP on weight loss candies. Those were the good ol'days.
I went to the WW meetings with my grandmother, too. We always had a big food lollapalooza after her weigh in. It was so much fun. I think she stayed the same weight for 30 years. To quote CCR: "It looks like a bad moon a-risin" but full moons bring out our charm and the best in every one.
Speaking of charm school, I have a relative who is so blunt. He'll come right up and tell you, you've really larded UP this year. You'd better do something about it before it gets out of hand. Therein lies the rub - to take any heartfelt stance while knocking all civility off the table.0 -

@ninerbuff, I posted in another thread I'm dealing with possible tennis elbow. I'm not asking here for advice on the condition itself nor recovery, but rather for after when I return to lifting regularly. I've read about some lifts which exacerbate tennis elbow and should be avoided, such as the lateral DB/cable raise, face pulls, and upright rows. But these are also ways I've used to hit the lateral and posterior deltoid heads. Do you have any suggestions for how to hit those parts of the shoulder, or will simply doing overhead presses and various normal rows be sufficient?0

What do you think about the wedding dress diet. Why do you have to lose weight for one day. That's
just the icing on the cake. Rather than wring your hands over the outward trimmings for a wedding day, why not scale it down. I'm not talking about weight, but all of the extreme measures people put themselves through.
Bridal hunger games won't fix everything. How many start eating it all back on the honeymoon. I don't see the point of giving yourself a few short months to get it all together. Postpone the wedding and get yourself together for yourself. If you don't like yourself now, you won't like yourself down the road when things get really tough.
I don't believe in putting a time limit on losing 100 lbs or 50 lbs or 25 lbs. All of that added pressure only adds to the stress. The body is going to decide how slow it wants to go. Your body doesn't want to be happy for just one day.0 -
