@Womona Without going into too much gory detail, they poke the cancer with sharp objects to “mark” it before surgery. They inject dye into me to find certain lymph nodes and not via an IV. All they offer is Tylenol and ice. What I take before and after is my choice.
@Lilylady3k What a beautiful picture! Made me smile! Thank you for posting.
@ahoy_m8 They might be mad now but someday will be very grateful for that pic!4 -
@tmbg1 Hugs to you. Now that I know you’re a teacher I understand why you’re here. My best friend was a teacher. It wasn’t the kids. It was the admin. It was the work she brought home in the evenings and the weekends. If it was the parents, it was usually a case of neglect that kept her up at night. I give you the utmost props!
Thank you! I'm having an awful year and none of it is the kids or instruction.7 -
Day 6 AF. In the past when I have stopped, getting past day 3, then day 10, were the hardest. I almost always caved by day 10. I am not seeing that happening this time. The thought of another day 1 pretty much kills my desire for a glass of wine, which leads to more every time.6

@ahoy_m8 - Wonderful picture of memories with your girls! Love the pair of soldiers / nutcrackers. Thank you for sharing.3

This group really helps me hold myself accountable, plus everyone is absolutely great. My primary goal this month is 16-19 AF days targeting no more than 3A days a week and no more than 2 drinks in a day. I post in the mornings about the previous day.
12/5: AF - Had another 70 calorie NA IPA with dinner. I wanted two but counting calories so stopped after the one.
Today, hubby will be home from his business trip. I plan to hold steady and have another AF day today because tomorrow we will be celebrating his birthday.
Rolling Total: 3 AF Days out of 5

@Lilylady3k What a great photo! Thanks for sharing. Personally, I call it a win at a wedding party having 4 drinks over several hours and water in between. Good job!
@joans1976 - Thinking of you today!
@ahoy_m8 - Great holiday photo! Thanks for sharing. It's a great photo whether they would think it or not! Question: What is ETA?4 -
Thinking of you, @joans1976 Amanda.3

@lmlmrn
Looks like you and DH will have a small memorial for his Dad on your own.
Beaters still turned on upon leaving the bowl is very messy, but also sort of fun. Good thing that you have a new kitchen which will be easier to clean after grandkids baking : - ) Love the idea of snowflake molds!2 -
@FaithIt365
It has been a couple of years now, but I remember that first AF day after daily drinking for decades. It is hard! Once I did one and didn't die I knew that I could add them in here and there. One AF day per week became my goal and I tweaked it from there as time went on.
I like your plan for cutting back, it sounds reasonable.5 -

Me too!!!2 -
I am Dawn, I live in SE BC Canada
My primary motivation for drinking less is weight loss.
I throw up if I have more than 3 drinks, so moderation on drink days is rarely an issue for me lol.
My recurring goal is 16-20 AF days per month. I squeaked to 16 last month.
I like to do this diary style to keep track.
Saturday December 03 - 2 drinks
Sunday December 04 - AF
Monday December 05 - AF, planning AF until Friday. Just catching up with forums this morning
Rolling total - 3AF day out of 5 days4 -
December to remember without alcohol because it'll be better this way. No adult Christmas parties planned, only stuff for the kids. Most difficult thing this month will be finding a way to "unwind."
We could always start a list of non-drinking things to do.
1) Go to the movies
2) ....
2) Call a friend or family member that you can have a heartwarming conversation (in my case, it's my dad).
3) ...3 -
3) Walk outside and pull weeds for 15 minutes until the urge passes.
4) ...4 -
4) Hike for longer than 2 hours in a beautiful location
5) Run for a long time at a slow and easy pace
6) Daydream about traveling
7) Shopping for presents in a store playing good music, first thing in the morning before the crowds arrive and buying something cool for myself
5 Days of AF Christmas over here. I want wine badly, I won't lie.

@joans1976, good luck to you today and big hugs! I had a partial mastectomy a few years back for DCIS caught very early and the doctors got it all out. I had a similar dye procedure also and still have a marker inside of me. I looked visibly deformed and uneven but that problem fixed itself with weight gain. I couldn't tolerate tamoxifen because I was allergic to it though so I just kept to a clean diet and exercise. Luckily, that problem has not come back.
Wishing you good days ahead.5 -

What is this NA IPA you speak of? Is it passable? I've tried a few NA brews, most of them I found lacking. The NA Guinness was particularly funky and disappointing.

Hello everyone
AF yesterday, I have noticed since doing this lifting routing if I have A the night before I don't do nearly as well the next morning lifting. I am much more in my head convincing myself that I can't do it. grrr.
Tomorrow is an off day. but still plan to be AF tonight
Oh and BTW the family pictures....Wow you ladies rock in your finery
so I ordered a home 'smoking gun' I want to try it on mocktails and on some cheeses....has anyone ever worked with one before???
Just sometimes I want to try using a new tool LOL
Christmas presents wrapped and under my 'tree' that sits on a side table. Christmas decorations are up but I need to pick up a few items just to make it a bit more festive.
I may even invite the Sock family to stop by

@lmlmrn. The Sock Family is back! Yay!!!
@joans1976 Ouch! You’d think in this day and age they can find what they need without having to poke you with needles. Sorry you had to be in pain. @globalhiker I didn’t realize you went through something similar, sorry to hear.
@mfowler883 wow, those are some crazy stories!!! How did you like the ballet?
@ahoy_m8 beautiful picture of you and your girls! Your day to yourself sounds like bliss. I’d probably spend it feeling bad for all the chores I’m ignoring.
@tmbg1 Sorry to hear you’ve had a crappy year. I hope things turn around for you. You’re doing a great job managing your life and also being conscious of your drinking, and still drinking less.6 -
December accountability: 3 days AF
Alcohol: 3 days (7 drinks)
Goal: Limit 2 glasses per day; 12-16 AF days per month. Aim to drink no more than 2 nights in a row.

12/3 - 4 wine ; overdid it at a wedding
12/4 - AF, DH too
12/5 - AF, DH too
12/6 - AF, DH too

Only one glass of wine today at an event, and I’m on day two of doing better with food choices. Progress! Now to drag myself to my workout tomorrow. I’m always happy to have exercised. Never happy to start!4
-
Love those pictures! So fun!
Goal: 15 AF days, no more than 2 drinks - Building up my AF bank before all the events start!
AF: 12/2-5
A: 12/14 -
Had a little merlot tonight with a snack of mushrooms, tomatoes and sweet peppers. Not sure where I'm at on days now and too lazy to figure it out.....okay, checked my food diary. 2 days AF out of 6. Ugh.
Got a couple additions to the gym, added a utility bench for core work and dumbbell work since I got a set of Bowflex Selecttech 552 dumbbells for Black Friday. Rearranged the room a little and stuck my flag to the wall. It was flown over the Capitol earlier this year. (Not shown is the Horizon 7.0AT treadmill and a lot of little things like mats and stuff.)@mfowler883 wow, those are some crazy stories!!! How did you like the ballet?
We had a wonderful evening at the ballet, it was a great production. We had amazing seats, 3rd row center, almost TOO close - close enough to appreciate all of the details but it was hard to take in everything that was going on across the stage at times.globalhiker wrote: »4) Hike for longer than 2 hours in a beautiful location

I don't really run as such, but I find that when I work out more I drink less.SunnyDays930 wrote: »Day 6 AF. In the past when I have stopped, getting past day 3, then day 10, were the hardest. Day 7 AF. Observations:
FINALLY sleeping better. And by better I mean I am waking up at 4 instead of 2 and staying awake. At least it is not accompanied by a slamming heart at about 105 beats per minute. (I have an oximeter so this is accurate) That can't be good for you.
Calmer overall. Much less anxiety.
Happier in general. I was walking through the mall and saw the mall Santa waiting for some kids and he waved at me and I yelled out, "MERRY CHRISTMAS, SANTA!" very loudly. I don't usually do things like that
Red lines, like an interstate map across my face, are gone.
Weight loss of 2.2 lbs without doing anything other than abstaining from booze. Increase in candy consumption as I assume this is making up for the lack of sugar from my wine. Will work on that later.
Self respect instead of self loathing in the morning.
I am grateful for this forum to share my thoughts and to get encouragement from others. May everyone have a happy, healthy day!

12/6: AF - Had a Lagunitas INPA (non-alcoholic IPA) and this is the one! It was delicious.
Today (12/7) is DH's birthday. I plan to have a couple drinks with dinner and will be mindful that I'll want those after-dinner snacks, so will try to avoid them.
6 -
@mfowler883 - Lagunitas INPA is the one that tastes like the real thing. The others I've been drinking are from Athletic Brewing Company, which are okay in a crunch. Lagunitas does it right. I found a six-pack at Whole Foods.6

Hello all! I’m Amanda, I’m from Michigan. I am a crazy cat lady and work for a veterinarian. This will be my sixth month with this group and it has helped me cut back on my drinking so much! I am not ready to say I am 100% sober but last month I had 30 days alcohol free 😃
12/1: AF
Yesterday was my last day at work before I leave for about 10 days. It was like preparing to leave for 8 months. I caught myself saying “if things go well, maybe I can do A, B and C before I come back.” And then I said “No actually, I need the time off to heal, it will have to wait.” Boundaries. Geez.
12/2: AF
Yesterday was a painful procedure without any pain meds that I handled with only one “son of a _____” blurted out. Today things hurt. Tylenol and ice my *kitten*!
12/3: AF
Got all my holiday shopping done except for food. I’m preparing before this surgery like I won’t be back for awhile. Not sure if my brain is trying to distract me or what.
12/4: AF
Getting ready for another procedure today with no pain control offered. Scared. I found a really cool interactive breast cancer app last night that I think might help be a sounding board for some of my worries. Put up the Christmas tree yesterday. It’s cheerful.
12/5: AF
Surgery in a few hours. I can’t help but be nervous. 🤞🏼 they decide to do a free tummy tuck while there!
12/6: AF
Good news: the surgeon got the tumor with clear margins
Bad news: they forgot to do the tummy tuck!
Today I am resting and figuring out the best pain protocol10 -
6 Days of AF Christmas done. Battling my normal AF insomnia now. When I stop drinking, I seem to only sleep 5 hours max. At least I got the exercise in. Got my supplements in too. Doing the Vit D, green tea extract (low dose), and DIM to reduce estrogen (mine is over the upper limit). My hair is improving and seems to be growing fast, but then again could be the no-alcohol doing it.
My wine devil is back and today I work late until around 7:30. I have a break at 4 where I can do a market run for wine (so the wine devil in my head is telling me).
I shouldn't be having thoughts like this so early in the morning. Distract, distract, distract.
