@Stockholm_Andy Ohmigoodness! What breed of spaniel is that? So. Cute. I love that his ears look like the lead singer of ABBA.
Thank you she is an English Cocker Spaniel. We just call them *kitten* Spaniels in the UK but here in Sweden we have both the American and English Cockers. The two breeds actually look quite different.

February accountability: 6 days AF
Alcohol: 9 days (14 drinks)
Goal: Limit 2 glasses per day; 12-16 AF days this month.

@Stockholm_Andy your dog is super cute!!!!!! I love how you captured him (her?) forging your path in the woods for you.
@Lilylady3k when we cleaned out my parents house when Dad went into assisted living, we found all the half opened liquor that he took when HIS mom died in the 80’s. Never to be touched again. Right into the dumpster. Gak! So definitely don’t touch old cheap wine!
@joans1976 hang in there, girlie. Did you have your first radiation yet, or is that today?
AF last night. Tonight is wine night at work, so I’ll only have one glass. The challenge for me is weekends, because if I stick to one I’m fine, but I invariably have two each weekend night, even if we don’t go out. As long as it doesn’t become three, I’ll take the win. I really like how my weight is coming down though, hard to give that up!7 -
Hi - Robyn here in SE Virginia. My goal is 16+ AF days per month. I had 18 AF days last month. I'm drinking less for health and weight loss. I post the next morning.
2/15: AF - Packing tonight, heading out tomorrow morning for the long weekend with our son and his new girlfriend. I probably won't be tracking food but I will be mindful. My plan is only Saturday as an A day. It will be hard, but I'm taking a stash of NA beers with me. I could only find Heineken 0.0. The other good NAs must have been wiped out for super bowl weekend. Wow! So I'm not the only person in this town drinking NA beer?!?
Rolling Total: 8 AF Days out of 15

I am in.
I am Dawn, I live in SE BC Canada
My ongoing goal remains, 16-20 AF days per month.
I had 17AF days for January (a long month)
I do this diary style to keep track, and I post the next morning
Monday Feb 13 - AF - I will be working an extra shift for Valentine's Day at the restaurant, may or may not have drinks when I get home.
Tuesday Feb 14 - 2 drinks when I got home from a late shift. It was very nice for me after a very long day.
Wednesday Feb 15 - AF - Going out to a comedy show at a pub on Saturday night, so my plan is to stay AF Friday night so that I am not "puffy".
Rolling total: 9AF days out of 15 days. 50% AF won't cut it to reach my goal in 28 days (reminder to self)5 -
@Stockholm_Andy We have English and American here in the US too-I grew up with an English but maybe the tail docking criteria are different-her tail looks longer than the ones in the US. The one we had growing up was named Cybil lol
@Womona Radiation starts tomorrow bright and early at 7:45am and goes every weekday until March 13! I can do anything for 20 days, right?6 -
Hey all........I am back home.
If anyone would have told me in advance of our trip that there was a chance of snow in Vegas, I would have changed our destination. And yet, it did snow at our Vegas resort on Valentines Day. 35-50 mph wind gusts, the pool water looked like Lake Erie during a Nor' Easter.
We did not take any form of warm attire. So Valentines Day we hunkered down in our resort room, heat cranked to 76° because the wind was whipping onto our balcony and sneaking through the cracks.
We took a taxi to a nearby place for a late Valentine dinner. I know I originally posted I would have something A that day. But as it turned out I drank (2)Heineken00 out of a fluted champagne glass at our dinner. And it was beautiful and no questions asked by anyone.
Only being Floridians for 4 months since we moved and we could not wait to get back to 70° weather.
So long story short. 6 days away and only THREE standard drinks!!! Can I get a Woo Hoo for that! Of all my Las Vegas trips, this was the longest with the LEAST alcohol days.
Loved all the readings
Andy, your cocker is beautiful. I had a parti mahogany-black-tan growing up as a teenager. I groomed her myself and would always leave her ears curly and long.
FOO FOO MOCKTAILS You crack me up!!!
Ok gang, lets slay the rest of Febuary.

I am having a difficult time getting back on the AF train. It does seem that the AF days have brought more awareness to the A days as I'm still drinking less, so that's still a win.
The weekend is near so I'll have some time to plan my meals. I think I do better when I'm eating a healthy meal as the empty calories come to mind.2/1 AF

@joans1976 ~ I hope your position at work is secure. I know it's not the best environment for you but you don't need that worry on your hands. Hang in there.... Good Luck with your radiation! Stay Strong!
I've got to check out those dance videos, they look like fun!
I continue to track/log my foods and drink. It makes me mindful when the scale is or is not going the direction that I wish.
@michieb125 ~ Welcome. I just started participating in this group at the beginning of February. Read some of the January blogs and found a lot of helpful information and also to know that I'm not alone. I too am a wine drinker and trying to cut back for health reason. Don't want to wait until there really is an issue and try to cut then, so sooner rather than later is my goal.
I am aiming (and not doing so well right now) for Sunday - Thursday as AF and then A on the weekend but mindful so that I don't over do it. Some sort of balancing act....but at the same time, life does happen and I'm not going to beat myself up about it. Life's too short!
@Stockholm_andy ~ what a beautiful companion and protector!!
@missmay ~ I love your attitude!! Ok gang, lets slay the rest of February. Let's do it!!!7 -

Mind boggling!!! My sister and I will be cleaning out her booze and wine because it has grown to be a large stash since one of us last visited.

@Stockholm_Andy Thanks for the great information and welcome. Your pup is darling! I will share a photo of my cream hybrid Golden lab soon.
@joans1976 I have read so many great posts here through the past weeks and currently it gives me great motivation to keep coming back. I agree with you about trying to make proactive lifestyle changes before a problem may arise. And setting reasonable aims and treating one with love and respect when we overdue makes
sense! Life IS too short.
@dawnbgethealthy Your goals are uplifting!
@Wamona I don’t know your situation but with your positive attitude you can rock this!
I love all the posts and like checking in from the West Coast with my morning coffee. I appreciate the non-judgmental friends here and such positive support!
Feb stat totals:

Goal: no more than two glasses total
Would like to have 2 wines or Proseco on Saturday night.

Awesome doggo, Andy!
Been drinking most nights. Eating better and starting to drop weight again slowly, so there's that; I'll take whatever wins I can get right now.
The situation with Bentley is taking a toll, wife and I are both stressed a lot and it creeps into our lives. He hasn't gotten worse but he isn't getting better. He doesn't dislike his wheelchair but he is slow in learning how to use it. I've been trying to fine tune it here and there to make sure it fits him well.
I'm tired. I walk him (if you really want to call it that - it's more accurate to say I carry him) multiple times before bed and he doesn't do anything, then he wakes us up barking and crying at three or four in the morning because he needs to go out or worse, has had an accident and is now stuck laying in it.
My slipped rib still hurts, that really doesn't help. I can deal with pain, and I can deal with stress, and I can deal with chaos, but it seems like it's all stacking up. I used to think that when somebody went crazy, it was like they were good and fine until one day they snapped and weren't good and fine anymore. I'm starting to think it's more of a gradual thing like boiling a frog.

Patting myself on the back....my 8th day AF! What I have noticed the most is that on AF days my food choices are healthier, portion control easier and snacks are no longer processed foods. Man. sleep pattern is nicer and I get a good nights rest. I strive for a plant base diet.
I even walked 2.2 miles today. I was Aa runner and then a walker. Seven to 12 miles a day was nothing. After COVID I am challenged at 2 miles. It feels good to enter my walking miles on my diary.
A friend suggested I purchase the N/A fake beers. NOT! I tried one a few years ago. Just tasted like sh*tty beer. Wylers peach tea is my go to now when I am to lazy to do a mocktail.
I am a bit and surprised and happily so that this thread has been so helpful and supportive. THANKS

I was with you on that one for a long time. It wasn't too long ago that the options were all pretty much garbage versions of domestic swill. The new generation of N/A beers is a mixed bag; as a homebrewer and confirmed beer snob with a taste for high gravity brews and bold flavors, I'll say there are certainly a few worth trying - especially the ones coming from established craft breweries.

Anyone have any Mocktails they care to share?
My favorite cocktail and the one my friends always ask me to bring to parties, minus the alcohol...non-alcoholic mojito. The secret to making a really good mojito is to use a) flavored seltzer (I recommend Polar seltzer raspberry lime flavor), and b) most importantly, turbinado sugar, such as Sugar in the Raw. Or, one time I used honey because there was no other sweetener and that also turned out good. Also, let it sit for a few minutes before drinking it so all the flavors can blend.
Anyway, I've been successfully eating cleaner this week! I'm feeling good and my acne is clearing up (although I also realized my foundation was breaking me out, so it wasn't all diet related). Haven't drank any alcohol either since Sunday, obviously. My partner and I had an alcohol-free Valentine's Day, we went to a Thai restaurant and had a great time. I started a new medication today (Buspar) so I'm going to be alcohol free for a while until I see how it affects me. So far not sure what I'm doing this weekend.

Diet, cranberry juice, and diet squirt! I need to bling it up in a decent glass with some cherries and orange peel or something! I’ve never been one for foo foo drinks. More bourbon neat! Can’t really make a Mocktail out of that.5 -
I love a craft beer. My favorite is the Deschutes Brewery Black Butte Porter. Perhaps that’s why the nonalcoholic beers are a waste of my time. I enjoyed your post.
Have you tried the Deschutes NA Black Butte? I picked up a sixer of that not too long ago and it's pretty good.

Nothing wrong with a mason jar for the right drink. Definitely with ya on the neat bourbon thing, though. I'll make the occasional old fashioned, heavy on the bitters and simple syrup instead of sugar, but most of the time I'd rather a good wheated whiskey neat in a snifter or with a huge chunk of ice in a lowball.

I was unaware that Deschutes NA Black Butte Porter existed! I will look for it locally. I make an old fashioned just the way you mentioned. Recently purchased some rather spendy (for my wallet) bitters. Really did not see any difference. I really like whiskey sour's too! Mostly I like a shot of bourbon with a beer back and I am good. I had an issue with the huge chunk ice cube made in my silicone ice tray having a weird taste. Googled and found out one must remove the cubes from the ice tray to avoid that.
8 days NA!

Just googled Deschutes NA Black Butte Porter...100 Calories. I will diffenitly search for it and try it.3 -
I really enjoy the photos and all the positive posts. We do have good energy and a positive momentum going here.
Separately, I'm losing my appetite for wine and chocolates and sweets in general. How can that be? Sour and bitter...yes absolutely...but I have no idea what is driving this change in "taste" craving.3 -
Hey everyone, been a long day or two. AF yesterday and day before. Today lunch out and had to sip my beer.
@mfowler883 @Sherbog wow I have not tried the deschutes ......hmmm ya know when we take off for parts unknown towards our unknown new home, I think DH and I will have to make a stop in Bend and do some tasting. Not stopping Portland, we use to love going there but these past two years??? No way, we went once and drove down to Powell's ..looked around and was so uncomfortable we just kept driving.
Anyway on the home front....only one more room left to paint...my laundry room where the ceiling had the water damage and we hand to replace the sheet rock.
I love all the pictures everyone posts...you are all such a creative group.5 -

Thanks for the laugh, kinda needed that.
As a side, although it should go without saying, one should use good water for ice - filtered or bottled. Not stopping Portland, we use to love going there but these past two years??? No way, we went once and drove down to Powell's ..looked around and was so uncomfortable we just kept driving.
Yeah, I like to think I'm a hardass and I don't know that I'd be too keen on spending time there. Maybe I'm getting soft in my old age, or maybe just wiser. I'm a child of the concrete jungle, love to be in the city around all the hustle bustle and everything one could want or need close at hand but lately I'm starting to think I'd be happy with a modest slab of turf in the woods somewhere in Michigan.
Bentley is resting so I am taking advantage and winding down with some shoegaze and a few glasses of wine. He hasn't peed in hours so I'm afraid he'll have me up at some ridiculous hour. He has been scootching around with his front feet tucked, driving hard with his back feet, which is more mobile than he's been lately. Maybe that's a sign of improvement? I don't know. He still just kinda stands there in his wheelchair mostly.
Harley will babysit him when we're out, he gets funny about it if we catch him at it. We'll walk in and they'll be near each other, Har will look up and take off. LOL he's such a doofus. I love them both.

Tail docking is completely banned here (as it ear cropping) so all dog breeds have full tails.
Everyone thanks for all the kind words for Summer. I'd let her know but her ego is big enough already.
@mfowler883 sorry to read about what your going through with Bentley, and more in general, I hope things pick up for you buddy.
@itladyee I know what you mean about it being hard to get back on the AF train sometimes. I have that issue too. The good thing though is that its on your mind and you are actively looking at it.
AF 7 A 97 -
I too am a liquor drinker primarily, so NA mocktails don't really do it for me much.
My cocktails are usually just a combination of straight booze except in the summer (Mojitos, gin slings) and those just don't taste "right" for me without the booze (or the buzz from the booze for that matter).
I will occasionally have a slim 10 in a champagne flute, I don't find that it makes me miss the booze as much as a mocktail of something that I would normally put alcohol in to.
Replacing alcohol (and probably wine which I can no longer drink) doesn't really work for me personally, I can't replicate a Manhattan or Stinger or warmed snifter of Brandy, so I don't try to. Instead, I am really just trying to lean into AF days
I still drink absolutely everything in a fancy glass: water, coffee, almond milk, club soda, tea, sparkling flavoured low cal waters.

8th day AF! Tonight is a difficult one. I am at a resort location and on Friday nights the bar is open and open mike for guests to sing or whatever. I had given thought to going and trying a NA brew. I just don't think I could be disciplined. This tiny little bar has a great selection of bourbon. How could I pass on my favorite bourbon. NOPE..decided to stay home.12

@Sherbog seems like you have thought about your choices for tonight and went with the one that supports your incredible streak.5
