LESS Alcohol ~ MARCH 2023 ~ One Day at A Time

Hello everyone
I'm new to this thread, but not MFP. I'm comfortable mostly just lurking, but I've followed this thread for months wanting to join in and wondering if I'd be a good fit? I've followed everyone's personal stories , through the good and the bad, and find myself smiling and feeling so proud of everyone, and just hope I can get to a point where I can be proud of myself.
To just jump right in, so far this month, I have 16 AF days, and 9 A days for March.
It might seem like AF days are in the lead, but when I drink, I binge. I can and often go over the recommended daily/weekly allowance, and still "want it all". I have struggled for a while, repeatedly just not seemingly being able to stop, like that "switch" is well and truly broken..
Thank you all for listening, and tyvm to @MissMay for creating these threads, they are powerful and far reaching.10 -
Saturday - 3/25
@Fursian welcome and glad you are here! I lurked for awhile as well, but found once I jumped on the thread everyone was welcoming - no judgment for we are all here for the same reason. Less Alcohol (aka LA) and whatever that means to you personally. Your AF days are inspiring and you will find encouragement here.
@MissMay - you have been wonderful to keep this thread going for quite a long time! Thank
You.
@dawnbgethealthy I adore Victoria, B.C. Hope to visit greater areas. Your weather is perfect for gardening and want to hear what you plant this spring. Are you able to grow flowers year round? Friends have told us we must see Glacier so
making that long trek. I know it will be worth it!
@RockinRobyn672 - camping sure does get
us out into the great outdoors! National Parks are
truly wonderful.
Rolling total: 17 AF out of 24 days
AF - 17
A - 7
Goals: No more than two glasses per A day
I had some unplanned A last night after wrestling with the thoughts beforehand. Then I got to the point where I decided I should not to be so hard on myself (progress not perfection right?)
I had two Brut champagnes while watching a late sunset and then a movie after. Went to bed not guilty. Drove home today and desire to be AF until next Thursday or Friday.
This LA isn’t always easy but I am learning a lot about myself so that makes it worth it.

@Fursian welcome and come and join us. This group has one thing in common and it's called spirit. We seek the positive and we lift ourselves up. I can't speak for the others, but my goal is to have the most healthy and happy life I can create for myself so that is why I am here.
@mfowler883 looks like you are on a roll and I wish you strength..you definitely have the power get through this.
Tomorrow I have a 3 hr hill walk planned after zero exercise for 1 week. No pain since Monday so hoping for a good outcome.
AF today and insomniac with a turbulent gut but I will not take anything for sleep and just put myself to bed now. I want to cry and whine so badly but I tell myself to shut up and be strong. I can't wimp out on myself.

10 AF so far this month - not the greatest but I'm not going to beat myself up over it. Gonna try to finish out March strong and quit letting work stress drive my decision making.4

AF yesterday. A local 5 Star Nutrition is closing and blowing out everything at 40% off so I got a few things including some "SleepOne" which is stuff like melatonin and things, I don't remember exactly what all is in it but nothing too crazy. Dose is three so I started with one and washed it down with hop water. I slept straight through the night for the first time since maybe January, I think.
I did grab a beer but I don't know if I'll drink it.
Welcome to the thread, @Fursian. Most of my life I was the same way - if I had a drink, I was gonna have ALL the drinks. I still struggle sometimes, and if I have a single Frito I will devour the whole bag.

Hello My "LA" friends! Happy March! I am SO ready for spring! My goal is 16 AF days minimum in a month. I'm drinking less for weight loss and the additional health benefits. I usually post the next morning.
Sat 3/25: Drinks (2) - It was a beautiful day and in the upper 70s, finally! I made it 30 miles on my road bike! Although it's still not even close to normal, my surgery foot held up pretty well. I had two glasses of chardonnay with dinner and a St. Pauli Girl NA later at home where we binge-watched a new favorite series - Tulsa King.
The plan for today is AF.
Rolling Total: 12 AF Days out of 267 -
March accountability: 12 days AF

Hope everyone is having a great weekend.

@Womona I hope you plan and make that trip to Bimini or Key West soon! And I hear you on where you'd rather be. I also have laundry, house cleaning and some work catch-up to do today and it's another beautiful day. I'm going to try to squeeze in some time outside.5

@Micieb125
Yes, Victoria and Vancouver Island are beautiful, especially Tofino and Ucluelet.
I am about 12 or more hours away from there including a $100 Ferry ride from Vancouver. (I usually just fly when going there to visit friends)
I live in the SE corner of BC, almost to Alberta. I am about 40 minutes away from Idaho and about an hour 20 to Eureka Montana.
Very excited to hear about your trips : - )3 -
I am Dawn, I live in South Eastern British Columbia.
I joined this thread in November of 2018, a daily drinker at the time
My primary goal with drinking less is weight loss.
My usual goal is 16-20 AF days for the month,
I had 16AF days for the shortened month of February.
I do this diary style, I normally post the next morning.
Friday March 24 - Drinks, out with a friend. It was a very nice time. No plans for A or AF for Saturday.
Saturday March 25 - Drinks, Prosecco. Planned AF for Sunday, and seeing that we are into the last week of the month will need to get 3 more AF days in addition to that. Busy week ahead, which is sometimes my trigger - coming home from a very long workday.
Rolling total: 12AF day out of 25 days.6 -
Thank you for the welcome, words and experiences, @mfowler883, @globalhiker,
@Michieb125 !
It does give me hope to learn of people having been in similar situations and it is really good reading that things look like they have shown improvement for you.
I'll post back on Friday, with the mini goal of 1 drinking session a week. I used to be able to do that so I know it is within the realms of possibility.8 -
Sunday-3/26.
Closing in on the last week of March!
Love this from @globalhiker —

“The most healthy and happy life”……yes, we CAN have this and make good choices each day.
@dawnbgethealthy - you live in such a beautiful place!!
Rolling total: 18 AF out of 25 days
AF - 18
A - 7
Goals: No more than two glasses per A day
I had a few stressors this past week which shot my anxiety up but I was able to work through it alright and stay within my goals.
I like melatonin gummies with lemon balm every night (3mg) along with Sleepy Time tea. Typically I sleep very well with this regimen if I don’t stay up too late.
Like usual, I will plan for A on Thursday or Friday this week and remain AF until then.

Following up with my early morning commitment to be AF today. Well it was more challenging than I expected. DH and I went to a favorite haunt Ragin Cajun for shrimp po-boys. DH had a beer ... sigh I had tea ONLY because I did not want to come back to report the failure. Then this evening DH had another beer with dinner and a bourbon & coke afterward ... I had Clausthaler NA Beer (thank goodness it was in the fridge!) and then switched to water.
So a WIN for today and I get to keep my logged 12 AF days for this month.8 -
You all are doing really well. I did get a 3 hr. hike in with a friend and got the home chores done then I hit half a bottle of rose which I now regret. Cost me 10 weight watchers points and now I am starving hungry but I am out of points. This will help me learn. At some point, good food becomes way more important than mediocre wine.
I am working on trying to get 7.5 hrs sleep in straight. That's my goal tonight. For me, Melatonin is amazing to get me to fall asleep but 4 hours later I am wide awake in a typical menopausal sweat. Sucks getting old.
@Michieb125 I went to visit @dawnbgethealthy last year on my way to the Canadian Rockies and she lives in a great spot so close to amazing mountains and waterfalls. Canada has been my favorite place in the world for hiking. I am a fan of Squamish and Northern Vancouver and even Sunshine Coast. All of that are is just grand in the summer when the rains stop.
Catching a bit of American Idol and putting myself to bed at 8pm. At least I will try
I challenge you all to lift yourselves up this week and I will do the same. Let's bring on a really good Monday.....7 -
Checking back before I turn in for the night. @Lilylady3k you navigated this challenging day, way to go. Definitely a win for you!
@globalhiker sounds like you had a great hike today and in the Canadian Rockies - that would be a real treat!
Thank you for the positive challenge this week.

Been a day, started off with breakfast out which was okay but not great, then some shopping and errands. Came home and made HUGE progress on my desk, the legs are finally attached and the folding table is gone. There's still some stuff to be done, but that was a big step. The upper components are just dry fitted in, they fit tight enough that I may not bother screwing them down. I may add a keyboard tray and I want to figure out a better solution for the PC. The display mount is still rough cut.
Nachos and a frozen marg at dinner tonight. I still haven't fixed my Sirius XM account so tonight's darkwave is by way of Pandora again. I did decide to crack open that quad and sip on that while I listen and work on putting my studio back in order for now. Oh...man...I dunno what I think about this, Medicine by Throbbing Gristle, I can get down to some pretty noisy stuff, including the likes of SPK and Throbbing Gristle but this track is a bit much.
Aight enough of my rambling. Y'all have a good one.

Hello! I’m Amanda, I’m a crazy cat lady from Michigan! I joined this forum in June of 2022 and since September I have decreased my drinking to one day a month! This is a huge accomplishment from where I was and I absolutely could not have done it without the wonderful mix of people in this group!

Hello LA friends! I hope your weekends were good. I stayed AF but I was with my parents yesterday for a decent chunk of time and that reminded me why I used to drink so much. They are….a challenge!
Yesterday was 50 degrees and sunny here (but snow expected Wednesday) so I got out and did a 2 mile walk. Not much but it’s something!11 -
@tmbg1 I know this doesn’t help with the job stressors but I just want to say I hear you and I think teaching has got to be one of the hardest jobs right now. Thank you for hanging in there during all you were put through with covid and I think you should be paid way more.
@Fursian Welcome! This group has made a big impact on my life, hopefully we can support you in drinking less.
@mfowler883 The desk looks great! Way better than my setup. I keep my desk in my second bedroom because I cannot have it in my living space or I will be reminded of work when not working. Glad to hear you got some sleep a few nights ago. How’s that going now?6 -
Hello My "LA" friends! Happy March! I am SO ready for spring! My goal is 16 AF days minimum in a month. I'm drinking less for weight loss and the additional health benefits. I usually post the next morning.
Fri 3/24: AF
Sat 3/25: Drinks (2)
Sun 3/26: AF - I had a couple of NA beers with dinner. Tonight (Monday), we're going to an event at a local brewery to celebrate the 50th anniversary of Pink Floyd's classic album, Dark Side of the Moon, and a special screening of the Wizard of Oz. Should be fun! I will have at least one hazy IPA. This brewery has NA options but I'm not sure if they'll be available at the event.

Photos to come

This is one of the places that people skate in the winter. I didn't get a chance this year with a "bum" ankle. It is almost melted, it hasn't been safe for skating for awhile.
We don't plant our tomatoes and peppers until all of the snow is off of this hill.
These little guys have been up for a few weeks, maybe someone knows what they are called
Kind of blurry for identification
Last year I replaced quite a few blueberries, and actually tried a few varieties in big pots. They are coming up nicely.
I also got the heads cut off of sunflowers, whose seeds I will be sprinkling around my house (and the neighbourhood)

Hello my LA friends, I know I have been MIA.......this move is going to kill me or us...take your pick
Not exactly AF so I am going to say right now it is 13AF/26...so 50/50.
I have been concentrating on the items that need to be addressed in our home before we leave. Projected launch date out of the state? April 4th or 5th.
I spent some time catching up on your posts and will comment later xx6 -
@Fursian welcome! I totally understand - I'm getting better at AF days but my monthly drink count has not gone on a similar slope (I track it a few different ways but only post AF/A days here).
Speaking of- for this month, 13 AF/14 A - dont usually drink during the week so I expect to end up 16 AF/15 A but will confirm later this week!6 -
@Michieb125 Thanks again Good luck to you on your healthy and happy adventures!
@joans1976 Thank you It is really good reading that here has helped you! Back in January, this thread gave me the idea to write the AF/A days down, and I think posting them here is only going to help further with the awareness.
@MissMay Thank you
@2timesacharmmfp Thank you It's good to read that you're seeing improvements with the AF days! I track on a calendar so far and it does feel good to see all the AF days wracking up.
Have a good weekend all!5 -
Hi All. We were at the beach for our weekend anniversary celebration. I had more wine than was sensible but nothing out of hand. No hangovers though of course I could have felt fresher. Today I was AF and I ate very well AND joined the gym. I also walked 3 miles this morning. As I age I definitely feel the wine and it's after effects longer than I used to. Though we had a great time, I am actually happy to be home and back on track.7

@dawnbgethealthy — love your pics! Can’t wait to see the growing season start in springtime.
@joans1976 — way to go on your two mile walk!
@SunnyDays930 — your trip to the beach sounds very celebratory. Happy Anniversary!
@lmlmrn — a move out of state must have so many moving pieces. It is getting close!
I was elated that the scale was down a bit more this morning. I am positive LA is contributing to this outcome .
Took my little grandkids to school today as a favor to my daughter (and me) then went to Trader Joe’s and stocked up on my favs.
Still reorganizing from our trip but made it out on a walk in the sunshine earlier.

So apparently yesterday was my 1 year anniversary of logging on MFP. I feel like a fraud though, I stopped tracking in the beginning of February because life was just piling up on me. At first I maintained my weight but now I’ve gained back about 5 pounds. This must stop. I lost 50 pounds since last March and I cannot let myself gain it back. I’ve tried the past two Mondays to get back to weighing and logging but haven’t followed through with it. I guess one day at a time….11 -
