Ugh just got a message from my cousin that my uncles fiance passed away a couple of days ago..she was a dear sweet lady and just loved everyone.. at least she is with my uncle now.7

Rita-We had the satellite dishes for awhile, also got tired of that. Went to ATT-U verse a few years back. Got tired of some of their stuff-switched to just internet with them and started using streaming programs, The old set up works fairly well. I have Verizon phones but they don't have internet in my area, I am thinking of switching to Spectrum for internet only. I don't think the new ATT set up is problem free yet. First thing is to cancel new service and keep old. Since move next year is in the works I may just leave well enough alone-or not!
Heather-so glad you got some antibiotics. I keep the test strips on hand and have found them to be reliable. UTI does impact our thinking and moods, In nursing homes it is one of first things tested if residents get really nasty. I did pick up the D-Mannose and cranberry juice and am hitting both of them hard right now. Usually I notice improvement after a couple of days of antibiotics.
Allie-there are several decent choices out there for you. I also like the SUV for the height (both for seeing road and for getting in and out of). I love my Subaru Forrester. I got it loaded (for once) but they have less expensive models. I also liked my CRV but the seats weren't right for me. We had an older Toyota Rav which was a very good vehicle. I think it may depend on if you want to purchase new or used.
Woke up to 29 degrees here this morning (in chilly Ohio as Kylia would say. Having all staff meetings this morning with Halloween costume contests. Just something a little fun to relieve some of the stress. Should be fun. Need to put together a quick powerpoint for it before I go in this morning,

No time to read this morning. DYD delivered her dog and he has settled in. He is used to staying with us. Already had him out for a dander round the garden.

Good morning,
Ginny It is now Cold Ohio! I am thankful for house, heat, hot water, long johns, and reliable vehicles! I keep telling myself we really only have about 8 weeks of cold, but this is early.
I have Halloween headband to wear to work today. Where do you get test strips? I thought those were a European thing.
Internet Being so far out(4 miles), no one provided us service until 2018. A small start up company came in with fiber, high speed, reasonable pricing. They even lowered our pricing and upped our speeds as they got larger. It has been fabulous! Prior to that I used the wireless box from ATT like Rita. I still pay for that so am going to take it to farm. Don't really need it anymore as I can hotspot off my phone, but it is cheaper to keep it. At work we are Spectrum. It has been good as well.
AllieHugs. Sorry I have no input on car. The last one I bought for fuel economy and size was a Ford Escape. I loved the old ones. You should definitely try them out. Some just don't fit right. I do believe that Honda and Toyota both have great track records. Shah, don't let Ford know I said that;) The most fuel efficient one I have is the Miata, but I don't keep my foot out of it-lol!

Max is coming over on Thursday for the company during his half term. We usually go out for fish and chips, but there is a named storm forecast, with high winds, so I went out this morning to get supplies in. We have a choice now of Scotch Eggs, or bacon wraps, for his lunch.
Then we got a text this morning that he is thinking of joining DH for the walk to school today for the Bea pickup. He is visiting the art shop near us. Nice that he still enjoys the company at 12 years old.
Now that I'm feeling a bit better, I've told my DSIL to hold the window she has for the weekend after next. She is always so busy, but can get to us (with her boyfriend), after 7 on Saturday evening and stay through until Sunday night. I can cope with that. I really love to see her and I'm hoping my energy is coming back. I only have to make up one bed, and they are very easy guests. Much better option than trailing up to London.

Regarding cars - we're looking for a reasonable SUV, used, in good shape, because more tiny things are going wrong with the 2014 VW Passat. Now the heater has quit working except through one vent near the driver's side window. Not too worried about it, I dress warm anyway, and the seated heat works.
Carol - I genuinely loved the size of the Ford Escape and the GM Terrain that we owned because of their height off the ground. I'm 5'2" tall, with quite short legs, and they were very easy for me to get in and out of. And the size overall is good--some of the big SUVs are so far off the ground, I'd have to put a step on them, and hate trying to park them in a crowded parking lot. I liked the two of them, as small SUVs, because I could see over the traffic around me, and if necessary see to back out of a parking space. When you're in a car, it seems inevitable that a truck parks on each side of you and you can't safely back up.
Allie - Until the last year, when small electric/electrical things started going wrong, the VW Passat has been a good car. We bought it when it was five years old, because I was still working for the Girl Scouts and driving to Little Rock once or twice a month. At the time, it had 100,000 miles on it, I've put another 35 thousand on it, and the engine is still fine, but it's a diesel. According to my husband, the engine should last for at least 250,000 miles. And it gets 42 to 44 mpg on the highway. It balances out the fact that diesel is so much more expensive here.

Barbie -yesterday after you mentioned Jake built a fire, I decided I'd had enough of my chilly living room and built the first fire of the season in my little stove. Boy it felt good. So I consolidated the firewood stash and have a lot in the greenhouse right now. My version of "Kiln drying". Could use more wood so will put out some feelers. So glad warmer weather is coming back.
Kylia - I'm sending our cold snap out to you and Ginny. I'm done with it! You're welcome, lol.
Allie - what kind of car are you driving now? I like little SUV's like Foresters and other ones gals have mentioned because they do sit up a little higher - I think vision is better and they are easier to get in and out of, at least for me. My Sube gets around 25 mpg. Since I don't put a lot of miles on the car, it's fine. Price of gasoline has been coming down lately. Still paying over $4.50 per gallon at the cheap Arco station. It was over $5 a couple months ago.
Heather - sounds like you are feeling better. Hooray!
I have noticed something very strange - if I stop eating two or three hours before I go to bed, it seems I'm up 2 or 3 times a night to pee. Like having a UTI. But if I eat something with carbs like a piece of toast right before bed, I get better sleep - maybe only waking up once . And if I take an ibuprofen because my back or knee is achey, I can make it through the whole night. There must be some low-level inflammation that is waking me up. Any ideas? Another question for Dr. Lisa and Dr. Matt.
Machka - you wondered what I was doing with all the eggs. When my three hens were laying (not counting Almy who is a slow starter if she starts at all!) I'd get 2 or 3 eggs a day and I'd eat them for my high-protein breakfast. 25 to 30 grams to start off my day. I've put eggs back on my grocery list.
Got a lot done yesterday - ran the big mower over the leaves from that big maple tree which I'd toted into the back yard. Tried using my little battery operated walk behind to mow the grass under that maple but it was too thick and wet, so ran the big mower around there as best I could. It's 80% better which is fine by me.
Watchdog:Finally, I have to brag little on Rotten Rosie the mini schnauzer who was born to bark. Yesterday I was sitting at the dining room table here, on the laptop as usual. She started REALLY barking (not the normal nuisance barking she does when she sees Roger mow his yard or the UPS truck drive by) and actually came into the kitchen to fetch me. I got up and looked out the front window - yes, there was a car in the driveway - the meter reader. I realized she has done this before - when USPS is dropping off a package, for example.
I had just read that a barking dog in the house is a good deterrent to scare away thieves and bad actors. Well, she's doing a good job. Cars or footsteps on crunching driveway gravel - she's on it. She has a chair in front of the living room window where she can monitor all activity, lol. She got an extra treat for doing her job.

Raked and bagged 10 bags of leaves. I was only going to do 4 a day but snow in the forecast yesterday. We did get enough to dust the lawns so glad I pushed myself to get it done. I don't like bagging up wet leaves. My weight was down a bit as a result of the push. Leg cramps up unfortuanately.
I was going to try to make my painting group yesterday as a break from raking. Unfortunately my check engine light went on and then I passed an accident where someone ran into a tree. I turned around and went home.
At 2 I watched a funeral online for a choir member whose son passed. It was across town in an area I don't know. Getting there would have worked if my check engine light had not come on, but I would have had to drive home in rush hour traffic. Unfortunately the service went over the allotted zoom time for the service so I don't know if the choir member got a chance to speak. Many zoom programs will only give you about 40 minutes.
I sent her a card that said he will be remembered...I liked that but didn't notice right under that was the closing with sympathy I covered that with a heart and said with love...A much truer statement for her son. I also found a small charm with flowers and I added my sentiment every time you see a flower think of a good memory you shared with your son. As I spoke to her on Sunday we saw a woman with flowers on her dress. She shared a memory of her son laughing at a recent dinner. Put it in the treasure box. Her son struggled with brain cancer for two and a half years. Those times when he laughed during the dark days of his illness are more precious than gold!7 -
I am putting this in a spoiler because I witnessed a crime and some may choose not to read about it given there is too much crime going on in the world right now. I will say this trust your instinct and keep yourself safe first and do not assume someone else calls 911. (US emergency number)Last Saturday husband and I were driving down to the farmers market at 7 in the morning. It is dark here at that time. We were stopped at a light and noticed ahead was a car parked in the middle of the street. I noticed a white SUV turn and then go into the other lane to pass the car. I said to my husband this does not look right don't go by this car turn left to avoid the car. Just as I spoke, three men jumped out of the car and pulled someone from the car and started beating the person on the ground. I called 911 and got a state trooper when he learned it was on a city street and not a highway he told me to call 911 again. The person on the other end of the line kept asking me questions. In hind sight I should have said that a person needs help NOW! There was no safe way to intervene and no safe spot to wait at a distance. I write this to remind myself and others trust your instinct. Also call 911 do not assume someone else will call.7

Cars: We haven't bought a new car in the last 30 years believing that the moment you leave the lot the price goes down. Anyway, I've driven really nice cars and not so nice ones. Had a Buick in college so my family didn't have to drive 3 hrs to the North GA Mts to get me. First car when married was a Chevrolet and then a Ford. Inherited a Chrysler Imperial from the in-laws that seemed luxurious until it quickly started falling apart with very expensive repairs. Then a used Lincoln Continental that was the last one produced in 2002. It was a wonderful car to drive and kept until it too had expensive repairs. After that a Jeep that had something wrong from the beginning. Found out it had a Mercedes transmission that needed to be replaced. Traded it for a Honda Accord. Loved everything about my Honda Accord. Traded it in this year when DH's Dodge van bit the dust. Now we have the 2019 Honda Pilot and are a one car family. The best thing about the Pilot is that the seat can be lowered so I can get in (5'1") and you can set seat adjustments for each driver by pressing a button. Very easy to drive and the back up camera is very good. Found out that I can use my Iphone to get map directions, use the phone, and hear messages.
Apologies! Enough rambling but that is my 60 year saga about cars. We have never lived where we did not need a car.

Today I am taking my car in to address the check engine light and finish getting ready for trick or treat time. It is colder here for Halloween it will be about 35 degrees F. The weather might cut down on the numbers we get at the door! Many now go to churches who have trunk or treat. My church got 1300 coming through.4

Margaret ~ So glad you did your civic duty and tried to get help for the man being beat up! Too bad the 911 people did not seem to understand the urgency.
Also, hope whatever is causing your check engine light to come on is an easy fix!
