Hello!

I’m Kathy, 53, from Pennsylvania. I lost 30 lbs last year but immediately began gaining it back. This is the second time this has happened when I got close to my goal weight. I’m pre-diabetic, so carbs and sugar are the enemies. I’m looking for groups for diabetes prevention and/or ending yo-yo dieting. Best wishes to all!!

For me, what I think has helped avoid the yo-yo was a change in mindset. I decided this time when I started losing weight that I wasn't going to do anything to lose weight that I wasn't willing to continue long term to stay at a healthy weight, except for a sensibly moderate calorie deficit. That put an emphasis on finding and practicing relatively easy, practical, pleasant new habits that could continue almost on autopilot long term. At this point, I'm in year 7+ at a healthy weight, after about 3 decades previously of overweight/obesity. I think that approach did help.

I'm sorry, but I don't know of any diabetic or yo-yo specific groups here. There are groups of many kinds described in the Motivation and Challenges parts of the Community. You might find one there that would help you. Direct links here:

Once you reach goal, the Maintaining Weight section has a monthly thread about accountability that might be helpful.

    Best wishes!
