@Overheadfan Yet another smart, insightful update from you!
Nine-tenths of the blogosphere - maybe more - tries to make us think improving health has to be some white-knuckled extreme, all perfect, really fast, using only theoretically ideal tactics no matter how unpleasant they are to us personally, and just generally some kind of melodramatic battle between good and evil. 😆 Just no.
It's more boring than that. 😉 I think it's finding new sustainable habits that involve enjoying eating, getting reasonable nutrition at appropriate calories on average most of the time, fitting in more body movement in pleasant, practical ways.
Thinking of "a diet" as a project with an end date, during which we do unpleasant things, is a completely different mindset from finding sustainable, permanent routine habits that have us doing better on average than we used to on the health outcomes side of the equation. Misery is optional.
You're doing great. Keep on keepin' on!

Yes! I think it happens more frequently than people like to admit. It's like it becomes all consuming. Awesome job calming yourself back down, that's what it's all about! Like we say, slow and steady and whatnot!

Thankyou for the hug. I didn't know I needed it until you sent it. :)
And thank you ALL for the positive replies and reinforcement.
I'm enjoying my walks and healthy eating again, and the simple fact that I'm feeling calm and focused about how NORMAL it feels is a very empowering and self motivating action. I feel keen to " keep on keeping on".

Righto..I know this is another post in quick succession but I just had to ask.....maybe this is an actual " thing" and apologies if it makes perfect sense to you all ( each to his/ her own , and all that ) …but.......was enjoying a pleasant lunch with a group of friends and some people I'd not met before.
A few women got onto the topic of weight loss after menopause/ difficulty shifting weight. Etc etc. You can all imagine the conversation , we've all heard it before , or participated in it over the years. I kept quiet, especially because everyone seemed to be on a very scary low cal , fast weightloss type regimen. I wasn't going to bother debating or defending my personal position and I keep my health approach to myself anyway, or it suddenly becomes a Big Thing. ( And you know I try to avoid that)
Anyway , one woman was talking about her overcoming her weight loss plateau and her absolute diligent application of coffee enemas. :(
Ummm. I nearly choked on my salad.
Seriously, I'm not trying to be really critical or poke fun..maybe a little, but of course I'm coming from a position of ignorance.
But that seriously can't be a thing , right. ? Cos no weightloss stall is going to entice me to try that.
Just saying.....Nah.

It'sa real thing. No solid scientific evidence of the claimed benefits, but a number of possible risks. Probably one of those alt-health practices there's no likelihood of talking devotees out of.

sadly, everything is a “thing” if people are willing to believe it.
Have heard of that before.
I posted this on another thread a couple days ago. My head says “who thinks this is real?” but people will fall for it.
and, how long before someone has the bright idea of using this as a weight loss enema? You KNOW it’ll happen.

Oh boy.
That just really made me laugh and then I thought
"Wait a minute...yep...that's SO going to happen. "

You most definitely are NOT "coming from a position of ignorance"! You have knowledge and successful experience with weight loss. That's why this comment was such a red flag to you.
For our own sanity in those situations, sometimes it is best to keep quiet. As much as we'd love to share our success and how we did it, people in that frame of mind aren't open to it. You just keep doing you! Always enjoy your posts.

I’ve (finally) learned not to share my weight loss experience (except here, where it’s -sorta- asked for) and def not before and after photos.
I’ve been going to my yoga studio for ten years, started obese, lost weight a little less than six years ago. Got into an (polite) disagreement with someone who insisted I was never overweight. Finally gave up.
When I jump in the hot tub after aquafit or swimming and ladies discuss weight loss, they pointedly ignore me, so I just stopped. It was funny/strange to me how discounted I am, and they talk opast or over me like I haven’t said anything.
Yet they’ll listen breathlessly to any whackadoodle new “thing” someone saw online.
there’s a lady in one class I sort of told off after she and her in-law were discussing an third in-law in the dressing room . “She lost so much weight”. “what is she up to?” “I’d keep an eye one that one”. I piped up and said something like “maybe she lost it for her health?” OMG the hostility from those two now would make your blood freeze. It all blows my mind. We (you, me and the other folks posting here on your thread), should all be rock stars, weight loss gurus, educators, Wise Ones to heed, with our experience.
Nobody wants to hear it or acknowledge it, no matter how nice you are, and try not to make it sound like you’re throwing your success in their face.
Good grief, I fricking WANT people to succeed. I’d be thrilled to help someone with the app, better choices, walk with them, pay it forward.
People really are their own worst enemy (or enemas, in this case).
