Rosemarie- I Am so happy for your new adventures!
Lisa- Raised garden sounds beautiful.
It has been a good weekend. I got 4 hours of work paperwork done. Vacuumed up lots of flies-YUCK! Old farmhouse=flies and mice. At least we are on year two of no skunks under it!
Awesome sky driving home. I was trying to describe to my DH. It was a blend of greys, whites, blues, and reds. Some parts were sharp and in focus, other parts looked like someone smeared the paint. It was really cool!
Need to do some training.
Love to all!

Did a pilates DVD today. Then went for a walk (over 16,000 steps so far). The plan for tomorrow is to do a spinning workout Update: over 19,000 steps
pip – I hope you aren’t so sick that you’ll miss camping
Vice has actually been saying things like “are we going to go for our walk”. He didn’t say this last year, I usually had to ask him but then he’d go with me. Ever since the time change, he’ll go for a walk. I want this to continue while we’re at home. I’m certainly going to push for it. However, he just wants to go around the parking lot, not across the street to the mall or anywhere else
Lanette – cutting back on the walking would probably help my foot. But I love to walk down here, if you go early it isn’t real hot. The land is flat and there are so many places to walk to. When I get home, I’ll probably cut back on the walking. So I’m getting in as much as I can while I can.
After walking went to the pool then played mahjongg.
Betsy – safe travels
Sue WA – Since I’ve (fortunately) never had a migraine, sinus headaches are the pits. Hope those antibiotics work fast. Usually Sudafed works for me for sinus headaches, unless there’s an infection
I’m 100% Polish, my grandparents came over here.

When my hips are feeling tight, I start with these:
The Butterfly stretch.
In a yoga class, I was taught to sit on a yoga block if I had trouble with this stretch. So although this is considered a beginner stretch, sitting on the yoga block makes it even easier.
And you just let your knees drop as far as they can go. No bouncing, no pushing. Just relax into it.
I can let me knees drop quite far and don't need the yoga block anymore, but it did take a while.
https://www.verywellfit.com/seated-groin-and-inner-thigh-stretch-3120294
The Supine Bound Angle stretch
Again, we can start this one by just getting our feet together and slowly bending our knees. Go as far as feels comfortable.
I can now bring my feet all the way up but it took several months to get there.
https://www.verywellfit.com/reclined-goddess-pose-supta-baddha-konasana-3567149
Piriformis Stretch
This is a really nice one, with some variations to stretch out different parts of hips, glutes and lower back.

And it goes nicely into the Happy Baby pose

Yes, yes, yes to these stretches and many more. In October, I started going to StretchLab, a studio devoted to providing 25 min assisted stretch sessions, one on one, based on your needs. For 2024, I chose STRETCH as my word of the year because the added focus was really helping me with a variety of niggling aches, pains and stiffness. I go once a week and will continue for as long as I can afford it. In my wonderful backstage/security/ushering job, its not unusual to spend 5+ hours standing. I can do this now with nary any foot or backpain causing me to limp back to the car at the end of my shift. My core has strengthened, and I have stretched parts of my hips, pelvis and ribcage I didn't know existed. My hamstrings have been like boards most of my life, and little by little I'm getting them stretched, which ties into relief in my lower back. In my daily gratitudes, radiant painfree health is near the top of the list. StretchLab and my home stretching routine have been instrumental in feeling better and better everyday.
Not that stretching has helped with weight loss. LOL! I went through 2 months of serious "wintering" where I was just ambivalent about exercise and skipped the gym for several days at at time. And then I took a trip and ate and drank a bit more indulgently than I do at home. Seven added pounds later, I gave myself a kick in the rear. I'm back in the gym and have shed half of the 7 pounds so far....
Job is going well. I still work with the NBA team, Nuggets and also have some shifts covering a backstage position for the hockey team, Avalanche. I know nothing about hockey, except I can tell you the players you see punching the lights out of opponents will show up after the game all cleaned up, teeth in place, wearing a tailored suit and tie, and have a face like a Swedish supermodel. Gorgeous guys, and very soft spoken. I work concerts occasionally. I was at the foot of the stage for Ricky Martin + Pitbull which was an awesome experience. This Tuesday, I'll be present backstage for Madonna's concert. I've been listening to a biography of her and breaking up the book listening to play her albums and videos. She was such a trailblazer! Tremendously accomplished and I think I appreciate her more now knowing she is out singing and dancing at age 66. Should be interesting.
I still make it to lots of concerts. This past Friday the symphony did a program with guest performers who put together a setlist of great songs recorded by Joni Mitchell, Mamas and the Papas, Beach Boys, Eagles and other artists who comprised the Lookout Mountain music scene on Laurel Canyon. I was going to high school on Laurel Canyon when all this was happening, so the music has a deep, emotional meaning for me.
My special friend N continues to be a light in my life. We haven't seen each other in 132 days, but we've texted every single day and we talk frequently for hours. His birthday was last week, so I gave him tickets to see Bonnie Raitt in S. Carolina in May, so for sure we are clearing calendars to meet up there. Between now and then, who knows? Once I am done with basketball, there will be more opportunity for us to take road trips as he continues to try to golf and hear live music in all 50 states.
Lisa: Thanks for calling me out. I get down rabbit holes with books and fun stuff and forget to check in here. I love the fridge mural. Of all the attributes I miss about my DH, his ability to build just about anything is one I miss most. Regards to Corey from me.
Heather: I hope there is a swift, non-surgical remedy to your pain. My most recent pelvic xrays (taken to be assure nothing was broken after a fall) revealed I have arthritis in both hips. When they hurt, I stretch and breath through it. I can't believe Bea is 8. I also remember her middle name is Heather, after you. Your latest book is in my wishlist on Amazon. I'll be purchasing soon.
Machka: Fencing! Beekeeping! Gardening! Stairclimbing! Bicycling! Coloring! Catwalking (you know I can appreciate) Working fulltime AND caregiving!!!! You amaze me.
Everyone dealing with a loved one with or on the fringes of dementia: I wish I could relieve you of some of the stress that comes with this unique caregiving role. If you have seen one person with dementia, you have seen one person with dementia. Strikes everyone differently. I do hope you will find people near you for support and respite. Also, I can recommend the book and website "Dementia with Dignity" for learning the do's and don'ts of this affliction.
Okay, this is getting long. Stay well, friends. I may turn into a phantom from time to time, but know that I think of everyone with a ton of respect, affection and compassion. Always. We can do this.

Regarding the fencing, I signed both my husband and I up for it because they had a buy one course and a friend can come for free thing. But also I figured it would be good for his brain.
Dancing is supposed to be good for the brain and it is on my list of things to do, and fencing is a bit like dancing. It's kind of like patting your head while rubbing your tummy. There's footwork to do and remember while doing different things with the arms.
Activities like that are supposed to use different parts of the brain at the same time.
In his case certain parts of his brain are irreparable but the brain can kind of find ways around and build new neural pathways.
He finds the fencing difficult but is slowly making progress.

Annie - maybe your dad would buy potting soil because of the pansies. Maybe they are bringing him a little peace in memory of your mom.
Heather - Love the tulips. I change my flowers around too, mine are based on colour not necessarily type.
I’ve learned that it’s best to stay ahead of the pain.
I hope the clinic has some answers tomorrow.
Lisa - I’m so happy you shared the different photos of your creation. I love it!
We are enjoying abnormally warm weather, we still have a couple of months to go before anything can be planted, but these warm temperatures sure feel like I should be out there.
Back down to below zero later this week.
Betsy - I bet your camp is beautiful in Alaska.
Debbie - has there been any movement on getting the roommate out?
Kylia - I’m so happy for you that you had a good weekend. I love the idea of living in an old farmhouse but don’t know if I could handle the flies and mice that go with it. I lived that too long growing up.
Rori - I have watched documentaries on Laurel Canyon, I bet it was wonderful to grow up there.
Nice to see you pop in.
Lauryn and the kids came over today, Michaela and I made banana bread, 3 loaves and 30 muffins. I sent a loaf and a dozen muffins home with them and the same to Rodger’s work crew. That left only one loaf and four muffins here. I don’t eat it myself but he enjoys it and Kaitlyn is supposed to be here Tuesday.
I am giving my car to them to use for the week. The kids have been missing school because one of their vehicles is down and they need their tax return before getting it fixed. I don’t like that the kids are missing school so offered this solution.
I also had a talk with Lauryn about my concern regarding her anxiety, she has agreed to try Omega 3. I’m going to buy some for her this week.
It was a nice day and weekend all in all, the temperature reached +14C today!
Happy St. Patrick’s Day. My grandmother came from an Irish family.

Optical tests today. My eyes are good except for the fact that my eyes are extremely dry.
The liquid that covers the eye when we blink (often known as tears) has 3 layers: a layer that adheres to the eye, a watery layer, and a layer of oil that holds the watery layer to the eye.
My eyes aren't producing the oil layer so the water layer does not stay.
Most people's eyes remain moist for 10 seconds after a blink, my eyes are completely dry in 2 seconds.
The optometrist recommends talking to my doctor about more tests for Sjogrens Syndrome because my eyes certainly qualify!

Good morning ladies!
Well I bit the bullet yesterday and let my Dad help me drop off my car at the dealership twenty miles away. He scared me as we got ready, he kept forgetting where we were going, kept thinking I would be in the car with him to navigate, and such. I was very nervous. But he followed me with no trouble and we got it done. Yay! Then he drove me home, and his driving wasn't bad. So I feel better about him driving in general. I still won't let him drive at night or leave town. I think I will get a taxi to pick up the car, because the traffic will be worse midweek. And I don't want to be such a nervous wreck again.
And I made it down to 179.9 pounds today! Yay! Hope I can lose enough before Easter to come out of it below 180. I have two weeks.
I don't know what we are doing for Easter. I could make some lamb, and buy a pie. Or we might get invited to my Aunt's. But she's still recovering from pneumonia. I would invite them over here but it's so tough for my uncle to get across the street on his walker. It's a big religious deal for my father, but for me it's all about the meal. I guess the decision can wait a bit more.
My book is going on about eating smaller portions. It's a good topic, but it doesn't really apply to my baseline diet. If I eat everything on my baseline in a day, I'm under a thousand calories, so I can add a little chocolate or Cole slaw or whatever. But I have to eat everything in my baseline diet or I will get really hungry and go off track. The portion sizes are calculated.
That said, I did have my Sunday ice cream in my new tiny half cup bowl yesterday. That worked very well.
So soldier on, my friends! Hope you are all happy, healthy, safe and free!

Easter - we normally go somewhere over Easter because I have 5 days off, and then usually take the rest of the week off. But we just did that for my birthday, so I think I'll take only the 5 days (Friday - Tuesday) this time, and we won't go anywhere. Maybe a day trip, but not away overnight.
Hopefully there will be walking, cycling, a bit of time at our local beach, gardening, and maybe church.
Easter has never been an eating holiday for me ... except for Cadbury Creme Eggs. I ordered some of those in this week's groceries. But I really don't recall my family ever doing a special meal for Easter growing up, and I certainly didn't put together a special meal for Easter at any point as an adult.

Pg. 41 there were a few questions and suggestions for me from the ‘Barbaras’ and Machka. I’ll try to answer them:
1. No I do not have a sponsor. Being only online, I can’t find one. If anyone on here wants to be my sponsor, PM me. I would love it!
RVRita
Rita, Is there anyone at the online meetings who sounds like they have worked the Steps and have sponsored others? If so, send a chat message and ask for their phone number. In the absence of that, Al Anon World Services has a great deal of literature including at least one book about the Al Anon Twelve Steps. Take a look at what they have to offer.
Barbie
I have some of their literature and 1 of the books that I’m almost done. I have a 12-Step app that I can and do use. The main app, I just don’t get anything out of. I even have a ‘Sober Coloring Book’ ! The coloring book has places for journaling on each step which I have been using to write about my progress on the steps. I’m stuck on Step 9, too chicken to make amends yet. I did do 1, my daughter who won’t talk to family, but, didn’t hear anything back from her. I also finished a “Sober as f***” 90 day journal. Both of these I’ve shown to my therapist and have let borrow. I’m not giving up! Working through it all as they say “1 Day at a Time”. Thank you ladies for giving me the sponsorship I need through this forum!

Today is pictures of the coloring book I talked about earlier and what I did yesterday. Otherwise I hope you all don’t go through too many ‘Awkward Moments’ today!! 🤪

Rita - I thought Al Anon was about being a partner to an alcoholic and not being codependent.
Went to the clinic. Lovely young woman, and she's encouraged me to keep up the exercise and given me some new ones. I probably won't go again, bit of a journey, but I enjoyed it. She is going to write a supportive email for my ops.
Now for a nap. The cleaner is here, the window cleaner has been, and I have a Zoom at 4. Then babysitting at my son's. I've created a meal pack of Bolognese, tagliatelle, parmesan, and green beans, to take with us and cook there.

Morning, all... from the sunny but chilly Arkansas morning of middle America,
No Easter plans here, but then, I didn't grow up with Easter celebrations. I remember a couple Easter events, but usually only because a grandparent was coming. Mama wasn't the type to hide an Easter egg, but I do have memories of dying Easter eggs, possibly for some school function or another.
Haven't quite gotten out in front of the pain this morning, but hoping to soon... Have been able to get my hourly walks inside the house--too cold to work outside this morning.
FedEx brought the genie bras I ordered last week already. Finally, something that fits. I've tried the odd-brand ones, but they clutch me in such weird ways that I honestly was wondering if I was having a heart attack with one of them. I have enough issues - don't need weird-fitting bras gumming up the works! I've had Genie bras that lasted ten years or more, so I decided to go see if I could find them, Walmart had them for $9.99 for three, and they fit!
Am starting the move online with my planner - I do get tired of hauling one around all the time, and my fingers, which don't hurt at all when I'm typing, start hurting within moments when I'm clutching a pen or pencil. I'll eventually figure it all out.
Later, y'all,
Love,
Lisa in AR

Hi Gals,
Easter – always a big deal growing up, dying eggs a few days before, then church first thing in the morning, then home to see if the Bunny had come and baskets filled with goodies, a big Easter breakfast of eggs, sausage, sautéed mushrooms, and English muffins or sometimes popovers – friends came to our house so usually 12+ around the table, then an Easter egg hunt for the kids, everyone would leave and mom would make something for dinner, but not a big deal. Pretty funny after all these years I can tell you the menu but for the first 19 years of my life we had the same thing. And I am pretty sure that the jam choices were strawberry, apricot and marmalade ( Mom always made those and many more, but saved a jar of each for Easter)
Once I had this house I invited folks in for a potluck and I would always do a main course on the BBQ. I loved doing a egg hunt for friends kids. I used the plastic eggs and bags that matched the colors of the eggs so each kid hunted for the eggs that matched their bag, and I hid the eggs based on the color assigned to each kid, easy for the littlest and harder for the older ones. As the oldest ones hit the teen years I would do a hunt so their bag would have the first clue and each clue would be on “their” colored paper and I sent those kids all over the neighborhood. It was a great fun event.
Now the kids are all grown and some of the friends have moved and I just treat it like any other day. Some years I stop at See’s (a fancy chocolate shop) and get a favorite filled egg from my childhood, but they are pricy and full of calories, so it just depends on my mood.
Love ya all,
Kim in N. California

Hi Ladies,
I’m very far behind. I was on a little trip. A niece got married and then I went to visit some friends for a few days in Galveston, TX. I hadn’t been there for many years and remembered very little about it. We did some kayaking and they rented a boat and we cruised around the bay for a day. Then we toured a nice old house turned museum.
So, forgive me for being so far behind. I'll catch up eventually.
Annie, I’m sorry your dad keeps wanting to get rid of your books. Do you think that in his grief he may be wanting to be useful and he thinks helping “declutter” is one way to do that?
As for his pants, my unsolicited opinion is that I think I’d just let him do whatever, as long as he isn’t naked or showing something that will get him arrested for indecent exposure.
Heather-Great to hear the ball is now rolling on your health issue.
Vicki-What would happen if you just didn’t cover the extra hours? You should be looking after yourself. After all, if you get to the point you cannot go in, what would they do? I’m glad you got your weekend off after all.
Tracey-Love the hair!
April-Great job on the losses!
I’m on the DST train. I like getting up early and enjoying the sunrise and peacefulness before people start getting out and about. Plus, with it light so late, I forget to start making dinner early enough to be done eating by 6.
Beth-I see that pack of chicken from time to time, but not often. I don’t use it, so I don’t pay attention much. If your grocery has an in-house meat shop (I’m thinking Vons out here), I bet they will package one for you.
I find the frozen chicken is more flavorful and moist because it’s frozen in a brine. We also have started to sous vide the chicken and it’s great that way.
Annie-I’m like you in not wanting to create my playlist. I use free Pandora and just pick a station. I usually don’t hear the same song twice, even when it’s on all day long. There is an ad about every few songs, but I don’t even notice them anymore.
Machka-I also like using my body power over a car when I can. I feel I need to use it while I still can.
Doing things separately-I guess I am fortunate. The two of us are independent and have only a few things we do together, but we also do all of them separately. I’m perfectly happy going to concerts and theater alone and sometimes I prefer it. We spend so much time together already that having separate interests or doing things without each other gives us stories to share. Otherwise we go out to dinner and don’t talk and look as if we’re mad at each other.
We had an eventful morning. A coyote showed up in the yard just after breakfast. We see them on our cameras in the wee hours of the morning quite often, but rarely this late in the day. He/she was beautiful. Looked a bit upset about something, as he/she was running through the yard and looking a bit frantic.
Will catch up with more later. Have a great week!

Tina ~ Glad you had a good visit for the weeding and the added bonus of going kayaking.
Carol in GA4 -
Lisa - my husband built our raised bed with pressure treated 2 x 4's and after about 6 or 8 years of our rainy weather and with weight of the soil, it is collapsing outward. That was before we knew anything about putting logs/wood/veg debris inside of it before loading it with soil. I think that's a good idea - should cut down on the soil weight against the sides of the bed but still give plenty of room for soil and places for the roots to grab.
As time went on and the dirt settled, before it started to collapse, we would just pocket plant veggies, adding a little dirt into the new hole and that worked fine.
Those hog wire arches will be very nice.
Tracey - LOVE that Fowl language meme! My girls would agree. You did some mighty baking this weekend and had a great helper. So nice of you to loan your car, hope the kid's refund shows up quickly.
Rori - Thanks for popping in and I'm so happy things are going well for you. I'm starting to believe that stretching is at least as important as/or maybe more important than weight training in maintaining our ability to deal with the activities of daily living as we get older. Very encouraging to hear how stretching has helped you. I know my bum foot is getting better since I added back and hamstring stretches and some other yoga type moves.
Annie - would your aunt go for you preparing some dishes and taking them across the street to her house for Easter? That way she could have it but not have to deal with a lot of the food prep work. You've probably already considered that. Glad your dad was able to drive to the car dealership without mishap. Great job increasing time on the bike and walking, very proud of you sticking to it.
I read something about keeping our brains young. When we become too dependent on technology - mapping/GPS on our phones and in our cars and even calculators, for example, these important parts of our brain eventually atrophy. People who hike on unfamiliar trails often fail to pay attention to visual clues and landmarks as they walk, thinking if they get lost they can find their way back to the trail via their phones. And get nearly hopelessly lost when their phones die or there's no service. Interesting, isn't it?
I started out a map reader with 911 and working with the county road department and will continue, although I generally glance at online maps before I head out to a new spot to identify cross streets. I still try to use addition, subtraction, multiplication and long division on paper when I'm solving a math problem instead of automatically using a calculator. Makes me wonder if kids who always depended on this technology will ever develop that part of their brain that served us and our ancestors for eons, or maybe they'll develop it in other ways to deal with technology? And does failure of development of this part of the brain alter other parts involving problem solving or something else?
Who of you still have your Rand McNally US road map? or Metzger maps?
Rosemarie - sounds like you had a good weekend. I have never really "broken off" a friendship with a female friend before, I normally let them die from apathy, although my DH had no problem telling someone off and ending things abruptly if they went against his values. The ex-friend never tried to patch up the friendship with him, probably wise. When he made up his mind, it was final.
I sat glued in my chair yesterday and finished "Lessons in Chemistry". Brought back a lot of painful memories about getting a job in a "man's world", lower pay and the expectations we dealt with not only from men, but from other women as well. It had a very good ending. I always feel guilty when I consume a book in an a day that the author probably labored months or years writing.
I did some early morning shopping. Regarding the conversation about tender chicken - I've become a big fan of chicken tenders. I sauté them with a little olive oil or butter, sprinkle with a few herbs. They cook up quickly and are great cubed up the next day on a salad. I get 4 meals out of a pound of them - so the increased cost per pound is spread out.
I took another stab at contacting McAfee customer service yesterday. Of course the call went to the Philippines again but this time I had a male on the other end of the line. After telling him repeatedly to SLOW DOWN when he talked or get someone whose native language was English on the line, It helped. I read recently that if a person is speaking to a senior who is hard of hearing, keep your voice low and speak slowly - we lose the upper range as we age so a high pitched female voice can come out garbled.
He helped me a little bit, at least steered me in the right direction. I did get a few slams in on McAfee's dirty tricks but told him it wasn't his fault and thanks for listening. Didn't have to use any "fowl" language, lol.
Able to mow yesterday late afternoon, we had a nice breeze and the shady spots near the house dried out. I was able to knock down the grass but need to weed eat a little. I'm the only one that sees it but makes me feel good.
Make it a wonderful week, ladies.

Lanette my Aunt is a high calorie cook. Lots of real butter and sour cream and wonderful stuff. I never learned to cook like that, so my contribution is likely to be store-bought muffins or a pie. Her two daughters can help too, depending on who is going where for Easter.
Allie poor Alfie! Hope it responds to treatment.
My car is getting flushed: the cooling system, the transmission, the brakes, and the fuel system. Plus the oil pan resealed. And the dealer is fixing seven recall items. So it should be good for a long while to come. Now I just need to get a taxi to go pick it up before they close at six and get home by dark. I figure if I call the taxi at three, they should be able to pick me up at four. And that leaves me some extra time.
And looking ahead, if I keep losing at this rate I could hit 160 by July 4th! That is something to look forward to. Even if I have my doubts.

Ugh the poor little guy has Lyme... and im so careful and put on the meds monthly.. so he is on doxicycilin for a month.. I dropped it off to Tom as he has him for a couple more days.. I trust him with meds, lord he did it with Homer for years and I want him to enjoy his time with Alfie.
If its not one thing its another.. I just hope he doesn't suffer long term effects.5 -
We are at my son's babysitting Bea and Max, while Edie is dancing on the stage at the Dôme.
John is patiently playing Monopoly, Brighton version, with Bea. He deserves a medal.
We had a bit of birthday cake.
Barbara- She was only a physiotherapist. She did a nice massage, and gave me some new exercises to do. She will also write an email supporting me.
My old school friends, two of whom are doctors, and one used to be an orthopaedic surgeon, were horrified I hadn't been examined properly. They suggested a private examination, even if I don't go down the private op road. The thing is, only I know the pain and lack of mobility I am experiencing. I am moving more towards cancelling the cruises and spending the money on the ops. My life is worth it. I do have to consider John though, but only I can make the decision. He just looks baffled every time I bring it up. I think he doesn't want to influence me, but I know I have to make the final decision, even if it takes all my money. He did say we would manage it somehow.

Hello from snowy and cold southern Indiana. 🥶
Just last week it was warm and sunny in the 70's. Now it's in the 20's and 30's, with a light snow. Go away winter, you've overstayed your welcome!
Celebrating!
Sorry I have been MIA. My son is out of his coma! He is still disoriented and weak, but he is awake. Thank God!
Thankful For:
I had my first office visit with my cardiologist Friday. The good news, all my blood work came back normal, with no indication of heart problems, and the cat scan showed no blood clots to my heart or lungs, or damage to my heart. The bad news, my original EKG showed a problem so he still wants me to go ahead and have the stress test, and heart ultrasound my GP scheduled for me this Friday. Just to make sure.
Of course my cardiologist wants me to lose weight. I told him I am working on it, and explained what foods I'm eating, and the types of exercise I'm doing. Told me It sounds like I'm on the right track, to just not push the exercise part, until we get the all clear from my upcoming test results. Any chest pain, to stop immediately and let him know.
Off to catch up on what you've all been up to. Have a beautiful week everyone!
