no walking at all today. Really missed it.
Phone company was scheduled to come between 8am and noon. Dh got up early to wait for them. By 9:30, he needed to go to his mom's so I stayed and waited for them(phone had been out for a week). An hour later, the phone rings- they fixed it remotely but never told us they would be doing that. Never did contact to let us know they fixed it. I found out when the phone rang- Solicitors of course. no one else ever calls.
I keep telling dh to just drop the land line- just wasted money. Price continues to go up and service going down. This is the third time in just over a year that the phone did this. One time we were without it for two weeks.
Spring Break so have Ezie all day Thursday and Friday so no walking the dog or walking the wetlands those days.
Will get back on track next week.

Heather, while I'm sad for you that the hip surgeries will wipe out your savings, I'm happy that you will have a solution sooner rather than later. There is a long wait (18 months or so) here for knee or hip replacements. I have heard of folks going to Thailand for that kind of stuff and a friend of mine has been getting dental work done in Mexico for a fraction of what it would cost here. They spend a couple of months there anyway, so might as well get it done. They never had any extended health plans so there was a lot to do!
Debbie, could you not take Ezie out walking with you? She would probably really enjoy the wetlands.
Rebecca, "looked like a big brown brick" made me LOL! Wow, the management company sure wet the bed on that one! What a mess! Sure hope they make up for lost time now. Hopefully Lee won't have any adverse reactions....
Rita, yes, the wine definitely sounds medicinal. Unfortunate that it has to be an alcoholic drink that will help you, but you gotta do what you gotta do. Since you're not an alcoholic, I'm sure you will be able to just have the half glass.
Dream houses: our current house ticks many of the boxes. There is more than one bathroom (3.5 of them!), hubby and I each have a space for our crafts (he calls his tinkering, I have no idea what he actually tinkers with, but....) there is a coat closet by the front door and our main floor is open concept. Our ensuite bath has a double vanity and a walk in shower, cleaning is fairly easy, I rinse out both sinks every morning while waiting for hot water to appear, so they are quick to clean on a weekly basis. The other two full baths get treated as half baths as the tubs are very rarely used, so I only clean as needed. They also only get cleaned on alternate weeks. The powder room on the main floor gets cleaned weekly, but it only takes 5 min to do it. We have lived here for almost 7 years and I think we've both been using the sinks at the same time twice so not really necessary, but a nice touch. I really don't understand the toilet in a room all by itself, I prefer at least a sink in there so handwashing can be completed asap. Although, when I was cleaning house for a living, I saw a toilet that had a small sink on top of the tank, you washed your hands and that water was then used to flush the toilet the next time. I was told that it was quite pricey, but it was set up near the hot tub so that people didn't have to go in the house and the space wasn't big enough for a regular sink.
That's enough from me for one night! Hugs for those needing them, congrats to those celebrating and welcome to the new gals!

Rebecca - That is awful! You have my sympathy and commiserations. It's so unsettling to have your home disrupted like that. Plus, as you pointed out, mould is very bad for you. I hope it gets sorted soonest. Is there any way you can influence the speed of it? Squeaky wheel?
I really enjoyed seeing the family yesterday. Bea gave us a rendition of her school performance of 'Party like a Roman'. Wonderful! Then we got her violin exam right through. Horrible, but terrific! Apparently, at the school performance, she had to sing/say a whole solo verse in Spanish. A South American father came up to my DDIL afterwords and said she had an amazing accent. (It's a bilingual school) She also can do a very convincing Scottish one.
Edie took John up to her room during all this. A younger sister like this is a lot to put up with! Edie has county cross country tomorrow, so she was let off football, as she wasn't feeling great.
We had shop bought gluten free chocolate cake for the birthday celebration , which wasn't bad at all. My son had made a Basque Burnt Cheesecake for his wife on Sunday. I will post pictures from my phone. Looks incredible!
I was hopeful that my new, stronger, painkillers would work last night, but I didn't notice much difference. Boo! I still had to migrate beds, and rub in gel, and toss and turn and curse and ...... Oh well, at least the end is in sight! I feel bad about putting my son's holiday at the end of May in jeopardy, as it's a much dreamed off cycling tour over the high Pyrenees, but they are looking at alternative babysitters, and we still may be able to do it. Once I get a date we can make more plans. He even said he would come back early, once he had done the highest peak. I don't want that!
French Circle tonight. A talk on Vietnam. I want to go, but it'll have to be a taxi both ways, so expensive, as it's peak rush hour. I may have to email them with my excuses.
Love to all, Heather UK xxxxxxxx5 -
I hope all of you who are going for tests or procedures get through them swimmingly. Thinking of you. ❤️ 🧡 💛 💚 💙 💜
This is the Basque Burnt Cheesecake! Apparently it was heaven. He made a raspberry coulis to go with it.

Gratitude for the past week: Oral surgery (to extract a tooth “stub” with a root that curved/hooked) went well, was unconscious before they put anything, even their fingers, in my mouth. Some swelling, discomfort and bruising but mitigated by rX. Finally feeling a little more like myself, danced an hour yesterday and walked with Joe and the dogs across the lane.
Carol sorry to read of your BIL’s death. Extra hugs to you and your DH, for making that hard but compassionate decision. Hardest on those who did the most caregiving so extra ((hugs)).
Only through pg 52 but fingers X’d for Lanette and the house near her friend. Even has a chicken coop? Must be a sign.
Later, lighter, lovelies!

Heather - Pain goes so far beyond just the simple fact of where it hurts to stir your life into spirals of such things as sleeplessness. It's why I fought so hard and so long with the VA to get the relatively mild set of painkillers I'm allowed through them. That said, they don't always work, and I was wide awake at 3 a.m. this morning. For the first time in a while, I might add. Funny to go on here and read about your bout of sleeplessness as well!
Barbara - It is so good to see you pop up. Hard to respond much when your mouth is hurting. Glad you're back with us.
Debating whether to try to go back to bed once Cor's up. One reason I got up was to stop tossing and turning so he could sleep through to his usual 4:45--he had a bad night's sleep the night before, very unusual, and was already falling asleep in his chair last night by 8 p.m. Apparently, it's an epidemic! It's possible mine is the indulgence of the Pains au Chocolat from Aldi's yesterday. I snacked on them all day... adding hundreds of extra, totally unneeded calories to a day that wasn't low-calorie to begin with.
Off to get a little reading done and work on the clock I started the other day. Acupuncture this afternoon, and 28 flipping degrees outside this morning, so no brickwork still... maybe tomorrow. Hate leaving a job unfinished. I'm trying to convince myself it's good for me to be forced into a job that I can't finish in a single day. Either I'm not terribly convincing, or I'm not terribly convincible. 🤷🏻♀️😀👀🙃
My only sane and sensible moment was yoga yesterday, but it burned maybe a tenth of those calories.
It's a good thing I'm not perfect, huh? I'd be totally annoying. 😳
I'll pop in again later, I'm sure.
Later my lovelies,

Rebecca-did they test fir what sort of mold present? That may be useful information for you. It looks nasty-can't believe they let it go so long.
Debbie-I was fortunate, my husband was pretty good with boys-he got even better when they hit around 2. and weren't as dependent upon me for meals (I breastfed youngest until 3 but mainly evenings the last year of so). I was looking at Amazon Bin stores last night. With the pricing, does that mean one thing is $10 on $10 day and so on?
Evelyn-I have never heard of such a sink but it is really a smart idea.
Barbara AHMOD-glad you have resurfaced and surgery went well. It can take a bit to bounce back from procedures.
Heather-I found that narcotics didn't really work with my hips when they were declining so I ended up not taking them. Heating pads can give a bit of relief at times. Bone on bone is just painful. Glad you spent time with family-a bit of a distraction.
I had one of my spells with off and on sleep last night and some night sweats. May open window a bit at night until time for air conditioning. Don't know why I get them some times-I am forever past menopause!
Off to start the day. Take care all,

Good morning ladies!
I feel like I belong in the club because I too was up at three for a little bit. I read on my phone and went back to sleep.
My legs are tired from outdoor walking yesterday. It was hilly.
I listened to a Buddhist podcast yesterday and oddly enough, that helped with my diet attitude. It is calming, and it emphasizes the pause between a thought and an action.
Meanwhile, I got my next book! The Beck Diet Solution by Judith Beck. I'm pretty sure I read it before, so I don't expect great new revelations, just more encouragement.
Rebecca that mold looks dangerous! We had a bathroom wall that was full of black mold when they took the tile down. Sorry you will be out of the kitchen for awhile. Do you have an air filter?
Have a marvelous day, ladies! May you be happy, healthy, safe and free!

I've just ordered a stick from Amazon! Can't hurt, and it wasn't expensive. Black and white polka dots. If it doesn't help it was less than £10. Folds up and is adjustable.
I am going to venture round the corner to the local shops this morning. Need bread cold meat, apples, lettuce and a shoulder of lamb for Easter. I will take my trolley. John wants me to get mixed seeds for the muesli he makes. I've doubled up on aspirin and paracetamol, plus rubbed in a bit of Voltarol. Doesn't seem to be working so far, but might kick in later.
Had a nice chat with G instead of my mat work. She is coming over next Thursday to have lunch with me at The Regency. I hope John will drive me there.
We were talking about 2024 anniversaries! Hers is 40 years in May since she was sectioned to a mental hospital. She is going to celebrate the day, as the start of healing, but first has ordered her medical records to check the exact day.
At the end of October it will be 30 years since I decided to split with my first husband. I can check the exact date on Google as it was the last weekend in October, when the clocks go back. (Just checked, the 29th ) A bottle of champagne for that, I think. I still sometimes think it was totally unnecessary, but life has moved on, in good ways.
All those in pain, Lisa, etc. Lots of love, Heather UK xxxxxxxx

My dad has forgotten why he needs a ride to church at night. This conversation gets so old.
But at least it's not driving me to eat. I read three chapters of the Beck book. It's filled with encouragement, and the approach fits me better.
Time to exercise.

Add me to the list of going a second night with bad sleep. It's going to be rainy today so hope to get in a good nap or two.
Barbara - welcome back - we've been busy. Happy to know you are recovering well.
Heather - glad the birthday celebration went well. That cheesecake looks scrumptious. Is the remodel totally finished now? No more loose ends? I was given narcotic painkillers after each of my surgeries, found that plain old acetaminophen did just as good of a job, main thing was to keep ahead of the pain.
Evie - I know folks who go to Mexico for their dental work too. A lot of them winter in Arizona so slip across the border. I ran across this place a while back in the US that does private surgeries for cash. Looks like a hip replacement is $17,579- there are probably some additional charges. I have a hunch it would be at least triple that at a regular hospital with insurance.
https://surgerycenterok.com/
Rebecca - what a mess! It's not like you haven't been warning them about it for a long time. Hope Lee doesn't suffer any effects. Looks like they are trying hard to block off the problem for now.
Debbie - I might check out that bin store for Christmas decorations next year! Thanks for the suggestion.
I'll remember your Jona now. I think I had Tracey's Jonah stuck in my brain.
Some dads just aren't into taking care of the kid stuff, I don't think my dad was - he left it all to mom as I recall, of course he was busy outside with the farm. My brother took right over with his kids - my SIL had to get out of the way as he fed, diapered, did everything. My sis and I used to laugh at what a hands-on dad he was, he sure didn't get it from his own dad!
Annie - is your car still zapping you or did they somehow fix the problem? Glad the Beck book is encouraging, you are finding better ways to deal with stress than eating and that's half the battle.
Started setup on the new laptop last night, it was a breeze. Today I'll venture further into it. Nice to be able to start with a clean slate and not risk losing data.

A funny to start your day...
DH asked if I had phone, work bag, and cup as we were getting ready to walk out the door this morning. I answered yes. He locked up the house and set alarm. I grabbed my stuff to head out side door and realized I had no shoes on! Oops! He just shook his head. Lol!

The link gives $17k for total knee replacement. The insurance company has been billed for over $350K for my bilateral knee replacements (so far, bills still trickle in).

I did my twenty minutes on my bike and fourteen minutes walking! Yay!
Lanette last time I got out of the car there was a tiny shock. I'm waiting to see if it happens regularly. Mostly I'm ignoring the problem and hoping it will go away.

I started drinking tart cherry juice for lunch and am sleeping better. Leg cramps which are my nemesis for a good night sleep less too. BP better went from 135-140/85-90 to 116-120/80-85. Waist is 35 was 37. Fewer aches and pains...Breathing so much better now that I can breathe out of both sides of my nose.
My health regime...
Diet...little to know gluten, high in organic veggies and good quality protein, fermented foods (Kombucha, yogurt (now homemade), refrigerated pickles, Kimichi) fermented vitamins C, D, and a multi for over 55+ If I do go out no breads or desserts/gluten.
Meditating in the morning when the sun comes up. I do my own instead of a guided one. I do use parts of one meditation I used years ago.I also use tools and techniques I have learned from group meditations and books I have read. My intention is to let go of expectation and to open my heart.
Lifestyle...art group, choir, volunteer in third grade classroom...lunch with a friend and son two to three times a week...walking DrewB two to three times a day...preparing for gardening season.
Gratitude...My health, my family, my friends, my dog DrewB, my home, no financial worries. I am very fortunate indeed.
For those of you who are losing weight quickly with certain health conditions, diets, and medications like ozempic...I just read that it can possibly give your face a droopy appearance...to combat this there are facial exercise you can do to help. You can go online to read more and get suggestions as to what exercises help. Exercises that work on your cheeks and chin are particularly important.
I lost twelve fairly fast and am doing the same to help my body adjust to the weight loss.

Hi all,
Mallie-love the leprechaun pic.
My weeks have improved a bit. Dad is finishing up rehab stay this week, which means he'll start being at home, but I did get some additional care support set up for him. Crossing fingers he stays with it and has good success with recovering from the arm break. Since it is less intensive I was able to get back to my exercise routine.
My brain hates committing to doing a workout. It will provide all kinds of reasons and rationalizations for why I can postpone or cancel. When I do a workout I generally feel great after and like the post workout mood/accomplishment. Why does my brain sabotage me? Not really expecting an answer, just noting that with 12 weeks of trying to be very deliberate you would think the new habit could establish itself, but I am champion at self-defeating mental ticks. This makes me nuts and I swear....I will thrash this bad tendency.
Growing up my parents were in the keep mattresses until they fall apart. When I moved into my own place I spent money on a decent matress and I try to do this every 7-10 years. Not a frequent turn around, but I think having a comfortable night's sleep is a great gift.
Hoping true spring decides to show up and stick around. I don't like it when we slide straight from winter to summer with barely a week between.
Stay strong everyone. I will be battling my bad habits.

Anna - Good to see you again, hope things work out well with your dad. On the exercise front, you'll get lots of good advice, but what's worked best for me is to shift it into my identity. Takes it out of the battling (and winning/losing) category and moves it into simple reality. So instead of "I will," "I should," "I shouldn't," "I can," or "I can't," it becomes "I am." I exercise. It's what I do, it's who I am. I am a weight-lifter, I am a runner (or walker, or whatever it takes). I am a healthy person. I eat for my health. It's all one piece. What can you be for the rest of your life?
I know this attempts to make it seem simple when it's never been simple for most of us. And, as I said earlier, I ate some treats yesterday that were not helpful to my health. But I'm not eating them right now, and that's what matters right now.
Two more hours of sleep did wonders for my overall outlook.
Later, y'all,
Love from chilly, sunny Arkansas

I cancelled French Circle tonight. I can't be spending so much money on taxis, and forcing myself to go out. Today is not a good pain day, but, like Lisa, I have grabbed some extra sleep. What a blessing!
I've told them I probably won't be back this term.
Saga have emailed the medical insurance form I need, but I am waiting on the letters from the surgeon and my GP. If they don't come tomorrow, I will print out the form, and take it up to the doctor's. I am impatient to see the money back in our bank account. A bird in the hand ..........
Black pudding and fried apples for dinner, with flat, green beans.

Happy to find this group. I just joined MFP again. Let’s be friends.
Saw the ghostbusters movie last night. It was actually pretty good. I had a very delicious chicken salad with vinaigrette dressing for dinner there. Oh how food habits change (for the better)

Its like of a balance you have to have. The relationship between managementl company, the owner and us. If you complain too much, you could be labeled "difficult" and might affect a yearly lease status. Pretty much we put trouble calls in to the management company for important stuff only, water leak issues, our front door lock breaking, etc. This has to be approved not only by the owner, but the insurance company. So many eyes have to approve it. Being its a rental home, they will use the cheapest product, and do the minimum required, for the most part. So the owner might approve getting the lower cabinets replaced, but not sign off on the upper ones. It will definitely look interesting! These are 1980's or older cabinets. I am hoping that the counter tops are fused to the lower cabinets, so we get a new counter top. 👍🏼🤗
I'm so sorry you're hurting friend. You are being a trooper with it all though. You have a certain strength to you, even in the midst of this hurt. You are trying to not disrupt others with this, but do not worry, let others adjust to your change in schedules, surgery, and such. They all love you, and will adjust, changing things around to make it all work just fine.👍🏼

They did wipe it all down with a product that's supposed to kill it. Plus its covered now. We do not have any air filters. I expressed to the worker guys that if they could, to put in the paperwork that husband has had a liver transplant and is immune compromised. Hopefully that will speedup the process.
