Rebecca-did they test fir what sort of mold present? That may be useful information for you. It looks nasty-can't believe they let it go so long.
Debbie-I was fortunate, my husband was pretty good with boys-he got even better when they hit around 2. and weren't as dependent upon me for meals (I breastfed youngest until 3 but mainly evenings the last year of so). I was looking at Amazon Bin stores last night. With the pricing, does that mean one thing is $10 on $10 day and so on?
Evelyn-I have never heard of such a sink but it is really a smart idea.
Barbara AHMOD-glad you have resurfaced and surgery went well. It can take a bit to bounce back from procedures.
Heather-I found that narcotics didn't really work with my hips when they were declining so I ended up not taking them. Heating pads can give a bit of relief at times. Bone on bone is just painful. Glad you spent time with family-a bit of a distraction.
I had one of my spells with off and on sleep last night and some night sweats. May open window a bit at night until time for air conditioning. Don't know why I get them some times-I am forever past menopause!
Off to start the day. Take care all,
Ginny in Ohio
I do not believe they tested it.
They were just worker guys, not scientists.

Barbara - welcome back - we've been busy. Happy to know you are recovering well.
Heather - glad the birthday celebration went well. That cheesecake looks scrumptious. Is the remodel totally finished now? No more loose ends? I was given narcotic painkillers after each of my surgeries, found that plain old acetaminophen did just as good of a job, main thing was to keep ahead of the pain.
Evie - I know folks who go to Mexico for their dental work too. A lot of them winter in Arizona so slip across the border. I ran across this place a while back in the US that does private surgeries for cash. Looks like a hip replacement is $17,579- there are probably some additional charges. I have a hunch it would be at least triple that at a regular hospital with insurance.

Rebecca - what a mess! It's not like you haven't been warning them about it for a long time. Hope Lee doesn't suffer any effects. Looks like they are trying hard to block off the problem for now.
Debbie - I might check out that bin store for Christmas decorations next year! Thanks for the suggestion.
I'll remember your Jona now. I think I had Tracey's Jonah stuck in my brain.
Some dads just aren't into taking care of the kid stuff, I don't think my dad was - he left it all to mom as I recall, of course he was busy outside with the farm. My brother took right over with his kids - my SIL had to get out of the way as he fed, diapered, did everything. My sis and I used to laugh at what a hands-on dad he was, he sure didn't get it from his own dad!
Annie - is your car still zapping you or did they somehow fix the problem? Glad the Beck book is encouraging, you are finding better ways to deal with stress than eating and that's half the battle.
Started setup on the new laptop last night, it was a breeze. Today I'll venture further into it. Nice to be able to start with a clean slate and not risk losing data.

Yep they did a good job. I guess there were a couple different flooring down. One was just put over the other. I told the worker guys that when they do demo the floor under the dishwasher, (after they take out the cabinets), that the kitchen needs to have a barrier seal in the doorways. They said they would do that.

Yesterday at noon, a friend came to pick me up to go out to lunch. She's the one I met a couple years ago, had Thanksgiving with, and I have gone out to my favorite ramen place with. We don't get together but a handful a times a year, but when we do there is always great conversations, and much laughing. I did something so funny at the restaurant that we laughed so much we were crying!😂😂😂 We went to a nice Mexican restaurant but there were a bunch of things on the menu, burgers and sandwiches. I saw a Monte Cristo sandwich and ordered that. I had it for lunch and dinner. So good. In conversation I mentioned buying baklava at Grocery Outlet. She was like, "oh that is my favorite"! So we went there and they actually had some! I bought her a container. So I came home with my lunch doggie bag, the baklava, and a ding dong from Mods Pizza (we stopped there before Grocery Outlet because she said they are so good). She came out with two foil wrapped ding dongs, and we each had a bite. They are actually better than a regular ding dong.😁. We made yummy noises and laughed at each other because our teeth were darkened by the chocolate. Have you ever met a friend and your friendship is like you have known each other your whole lives, just hadn't met until now? That is our friendship. The only thing is that I know she feels uncomfortable/guilty because my house is tidy, and her house (in her eyes) is messy. I do not concern myself with any of it, but I know the times she's come over, she is exclaiming how clean it is 80% of the time, where as when I come to her house, she is apologizing for her house 80% of the time. Meeting up and just having lunch and exploring does eliminate at that though.👍🏼

Ugh ,bad news from the drs for Tracy baby b the smaller of the 2 is missing a forearm ,she is absolutely devastated..I told her, well there isn't much that can be done right now.. but she is in tears.. I don't know what to do for her.. I feel horrible..
People learn to work with disabilities and now she has to do genetic testing..
Oh just pray for her poor girl..11 -
Grandmallie: Oh dear, My sympathy to Tracy and her husband. My prayers for the baby. I hope the genetic testing goes okay.
C from California: Welcome
Rebecca: What a great time you had with your friend! Could the mold have been prevented if they had acted sooner?
Barbara: Glad your feeling better! Dancing for an hour is geat!
Anna: Hope your Dad stays with the increased care support! Great that your getting back to exercise!
Ginny: I think I am on a 1/3 of an acre and I am paying $92.00 a mow every other week...for all 12 months of the year..which is a little crazy. There are trees to mow around and there are many leaves to mulch in the Fall. Maybe I should look around for someone less expensive. And the yard hasn't had a treatment of any sort for 5 years or more. It's amazing it looks as good as it does!
Machka: I am 3 hours to the ocean. 4 hours to the place in particular I like. There is a pier there and people gather in the afternoon to watch the sun set. Sometimes I pretend I am there.
Tracey: I put together a rack for food so my husband could see the food when he was in his wheel chair. But I really like it!
Heather: A friend of mine's husband just had hip surgery. He was up and about in no time!
Annie: I use to eat out alone all the time and I enjoyed it! And we ate out as a family a lot. Now it seems expensive to me!
Lisa: I am doing my own yoga in 15 minute intervals. On Fridays I go to a very easy yoga class. I am afraid when I go to the yoga retreat I won't be able to get up off the floor....that is just beginning to be a problem for me --or keep up with planks or down dogs. I need to find Arkansas on a map. It just seems so much colder than GA, but i didn't think you were that far north. I will have to look!
RVRita: It will be interesting to hear wheat the therapist says on April 4. I have been to the ER a couple of times because of anxiety in the past....but nothing like what you went through.
Vicki: I hope the heart ultrasound comes back negative.
Debbie: Happy Birthday to your son! Mine is approaching 29. To me his 21st birthday was just yesterday. The time in between is a blur!
Linda: Welcome back to MFP.
Annie: Well at least they didn't charge you. Curious as to what caused it though.
I am finished with the rescue for the week. Several cats were driven from GA to a rescue in Ohio. Apparently there is a shortage of cats in Ohio. I am pleased to say these cats were adopted! This week the rescue is sending some dogs and hoping for the same result!
My son and daughter in law are coming back on Friday. I can't clean and declutter. I don't have the energy. And I really need to declutter before I get older. So I am splurging and having a maid come tomorrow. I will do some yoga this evening and 60 minutes of decluttering!
I had a dream with my husband in it last night where he was walking. This is my first pre-ALS dream. It seemed to go on forever! I woke up very thankful for the dream!
i am going to try Nutri System again. It seems like a lot of carbs to me. The food is on the way.
Best,
Rosemarie from Georgia

For the most part, I didn't care that dh didn't help with son- Having a baby was all I ever wanted and to finally have him, I wanted to do everything for him BUT there were some nights where I was so exhausted I would have gladly let him feed or change him in the middle of the night. My whole life revolved around Jona. Finally had a real purpose. Didn't bother me as much that dh had totally shut me out, I was too busy with a newborn, then a toddler. It was he and I that went to the park or riding bikes(I taught him how to ride). Dh was physically in the house but it really was like being a single parent.
Black Friday here everything is $10 each on Fridays- lots of sealed boxes. Some tell you what is in them, some dont. Here, you have to go ask the person at the side table to open it so you can see what is in it. She tapes it back up after you look at it.
Each day it goes down. All the way to .50 on Wed. I am sure there is nothing left then. They are closed on Thursdays to restock.
They just opened a few months ago here in town.
We tend to go on Mondays- $2 day and many of the items we have bought range around $30 on Amazon. Some a lot higher like that prismatic Christmas tree (on Ebay for $300-$850 for $4)
or the tri pod thing for a camera(giving that to my cousin after seeing how much it was worth, couldn't pass it up but not something I could use- he can use it. Goes for $200 and I paid $4.
Got a $75 copper bird bath for $4.
You have to be ok with rummaging through the bins and dealing with rude people. I would stay and look a little longer some days but usually dh and I are done close to the same time.
The bins are a nice height and not very deep so pretty easy to pick through
We used to drive all the way north of Sacramento to Falling Prices and now we have one in the next town plus we have Black Friday just blocks away from MIL's house. So, lately, I go with dh to his mom's, walk the dog, then we go to Black Friday then do our other shopping/errands(he always has to shop for something everyday)4 -

Thank you-
We have a friend who's daughter has known Jona since he was about 5-6yrs old. She knows how to pronounce this name the way we want(I just started calling him that and it stuck). She still calls him Jonah. She is 30 yrs old and still won't call him Jona and rarely Jonathan.
I am sure your brother's kids will remember that. My dad didn't help with the feeding part when we were little but he did do a lot of things outside with us. He had no sons, just three daughters, so he took us girls fishing, taught us how to shoot a bb gun, went mushroom hunting, etc. Always worked in the garden with both parents
The only thing dh has enjoyed doing with ds is taking him to the movies- something they both enjoy and I don't care for. I enjoy a quiet evening at home when they go to the movies. Once in a while dh takes ds to lunch. Other than that, they stay in their rooms on their computers, coming out to get food once in a while.

Gosh, Allie, that is a lot to deal with. It must be so difficult for them. I feel so for them.
Edie came somewhere in the middle of her county cross-country, out of 130 girls. Considering running is not her thing, and she only got in because someone else dropped out, and she wasn't feeling well, that's a good effort. They were of a high standard.
I had a nice email back from French Circle about my absence for the rest of the session. Very sweet.
Plus a lovely text from my niece, thanking me for my very much delayed wedding present! of cash. Her baby is due in May, and was announced at the wedding. At the time of the wedding last October, I had no money.
I am also a great great aunt again! My brother now has four great grandchildren.
So, to bed. Hoping for a better night. I will sleep upstairs, as the heating pad is up there. As Ginny says, it does help, but I am usually having hot sweats at night, so don't always feel like it. I did buy one of the patches, but haven't tried it yet.
Tomorrow I have a meeting of the pressure group, MDMD. I am going to go, as it's dear to my heart. Taxi both ways, but needs must. The convener said to bring some copies of my book, in which I mention them.
Love to all who bear heavy burdens. Heather UK xxxxxxxx5 -

Hi Everyone 🙂
@Whidislander Your new floor is going to be nice!
@grandmallie Such heart wrenching news for their family. Prayers said for them. 🙏🏻4 -
Allie - Still thinking about your Tracy. Such a tough thing for all of you.
Rosemarie - I'm finding that each of the yoga poses gets a little easier with each time I do it. I'm feeling the difference throughout my body as time goes on. It's been about a month for me now, and it does get better. I'm getting more confident in getting up from the floor as well. You'll get there.
Heather, Thanks for all the lovely thoughts... These major twists in our lives really make us sort through our priorities, don't they.
Long day - my gut went seriously sideways this afternoon. Talked to my daughter in between bathroom trips, and I think she was feeling better in the end than at the beginning. Tough day for her, ex-husband legal issues this morning, and an unexpected, rapid (but welcome) move to another unit, after filing serial complaints with her chain of command for the last year about her officer in charge.
He finally said something sharply unprofessional to her in front of a senior NCO, who confirmed the man's behavior to her Sergeant Major. Psychological, I hasten to add, not sexual. Within an hour, she was moved to an operations unit, and will be made cadre in the Soldier Recovery Unit a couple weeks after.
I couldn't be more pleased about that.
I'm wiped, headed for bed,
Love y'all,
Lisa in AR

Good morning ladies!
Allie I'm so sad about Tracey.
Lisa that's great that your daughter got moved.
Rain again here today. It makes my father restless because he can't go walking. It just makes me sleepy.
Have a fabulous day my friends! May you be happy, healthy, safe and free.

Today's book tip is to sit down every time I eat. I am a little resistant because I usually drink my smoothie while I cook my chicken. The portions are controlled because it's one smoothie and the chicken is frozen in 4 oz portions. And I grab chocolate standing up. But I don't have a good reason to avoid trying to sit down. It would certainly feel more like a meal if I waited to sit down with the chicken and the smoothie. What do you all think?

Morning ladies
I had to drop off Dan to work.. he is getting a new starter put in his car,so I stopped quick at Tracys before she left for work.Miles crying.. I scared her walking in.. but I just wanted to give her a hug.. even though Miles was having fit ,but I feel better will talk with her later..7 -
Annie - I almost always sit down to eat anything, but it's because I'm a big dropper from way back. That said, we don't sit at a table, we sit on the couch in the living room or the couch in the sunroom to eat. The only calories I drink are my one 90-calorie cup of coffee in the morning, and I drink that sitting down while I read y'all's posts and write to you. I could riff for a long time on my dislike for smoothies as nutrition, but that's not really what you asked for, so I'll spare you.
Kim - I love the fact that someone senior enough finally caught him saying one of the many horrible things he's said to her, as well. Unfortunately, a look at his track record makes it plain that he has done this to every woman who's worked for him in the last 15 years! He thinks women can't lead, so he makes sure they don't get the chance by keeping them ground down, demoralized and dehumanized. But because he's a civilian (I didn't even know you could put civilians in charge of active-duty military), it's a "gray area," and they're too scared he'll make waves if they try to fire him. So glad Kelsey is finally getting moved away from him, and back to where she can help soldiers again. It's where she shines.
All my iron lab results were available this morning, and every single one is in range - for the first time since 2016! I started keeping track of my labs that far back, and now I'm glad I did. The VA doesn't allow you to compare across time, you only get a snapshot of your lab work, My spreadsheet shows them all so I can see them in one place. Worth the little bit of work it takes to keep it updated. Will be talking to the hematologist on the phone at 9 a.m.
After that, it should be warm enough to work outside... Hope so!
Later, y'all,
Love,
Lisa in AR8 -
Good Morning,
Well it is 8:30 and I won't be able to make the 9:30 exercise class with the ladies. Sigh! I think I will go to McDonalds and get a large ice coffee and then go to Planet Fitness and walk on the treadmill. Maybe there is a class this evening. I will have to look.
I sit on the couch in the family room to eat. I have been having bread with avocado and hard boiled eggs. My weight is up to 198 though...so probably too much avocado!
And today is dedicated to decluttering!
PiP: I hope your Mom is okay!
Best,
Rosemarie from Georgia

I did my twenty minutes on my bike and fourteen minutes walking! Yay!
Hmm. I drink my tea in an armchair in the morning. I hardly ever sit on the sofa. I usually sit at my place at the table.
Annie in Delaware3 -
Allie One of my friends adopted a Hmong child that has no legs and no hands...He has always been in a wheelchair. He is going to college today. My neighbor up the street adopted a Chinese son with no legs who today is a minister. He does more walking and climbing than my friends. I had another friend whose grandson was born with a brain that did not fully develop. He died in his first year.
Yes it is sad their child will be born with one arm instead of two. There will be challenges because of it but when I think of my friends who adopted these children whose culture did not want them. They loved these children, and they bloomed.
I am thinking of my son who for twenty three years was active, healthy, loving, had a good job, a lovely home, a wonderful loving wife...mental illness took all of that away. I never loved him any less.
I write of these examples because there are no guarantees in this life. It is taking what is given and making the best of it with love.
I honor Tracey's grieving for her child. She is frightened for what this might mean. It might help here to talk to other parents who have children who are missing limbs and what they did to help their children.
Sending extra love to her unborn children and to their mother Tracey. Her job now is finding a way to calm her body down and concentrate on giving herself and her unborn children the best start she can give them. Miles is picking up on all her emotions and reacting because of it.
9 -
Allie ... My prayers are with Tracy and her babies. Being born without a forearm/hand is not the end of the world ... just a new world filled with different challenges. I found this article about Carson Pickett inspirational and love that the title was not about a "disability" but a "limb difference."

All my eating is planned by time, location, and food. I follow my plan. Strategy is stronger than willpower. Your plan may be different from mine but if you stick to your plan you will succeed. I eat one of my meals at the computer and one on my recumbent bike while watching TV. Some people would be horrified by that but it has worked for me for years. I've taken weight off and kept it off for years with this plan.
Barbie in NW WA4 -
Allie - hugs to Tracy and the whole family. Prayers. As Margaret and Beth just mentioned, a missing limb isn't the end of the world, and children born with physical deformities usually thrive just fine.
Annie- sounds like you consider your smoothie part of your meal. Maybe divide it in half so you can sip while cooking your chicken and consume the rest sitting down for starters, and see how that goes.
Lisa - what great news about your iron levels. I started to keep a spreadsheet of the results of my medical tests over the years and sometimes take it in to show Dr. Lisa. Saves her scrolling through my records. That reminds me, I need to take my Blood Pressure log book along to my visit with her today.
Adventures in Medicare's pre-diabetes prevention program:Earlier this week I got an email from Medicare about their pre-diabetes prevention program. I checked it out and my local hospital runs it. Since I now qualify, I called and talked to the Director there, and am signed up for a zoom info session on April 9th. The whole program takes a year, includes many virtual group sessions from what I understand, maybe some individual. That's what I'll find out. The info says it's under Medicare part B so there's no cost to me. But, I checked my medigap supplemental insurance - I pay a $20 co-pay for "some office visits."
So I wondered - is there a remote chance these are considered office visits and I'd be subject to a lot of $20 co-pays? I called the insurance company and asked them. The gal I talked to had never heard of this, said it's something I needed to check with Medicare. Huh? Luckily, or unluckily, she was able to patch me through to them.
Well, this gal at Medicare was in the dark as well, kept wanting to know the PCR code. New employee probably. I was tempted tell her to refer to the Medicare website for info about the program.
I gave up and left a voicemail for the Director at the hospital. Let's see if she knows.
I think the insurance company and Medicare need to hire me to beta test their customer service system to point out gaps in their training.
I have a hunch it's no charge to me or my insurance company and Medicare will foot the bill, whatever that amount is.
Carpe diem ladies.
