@NonnieDoiron that's a bummer that you went up, but it sounds like you're planning a successful follow-up week. Good job on avoiding the drinks when you were out.
I did really good yesterday - we spent the last three days power washing the driveway (a big driveway, and a pain to power wash), and normally I would celebrate something like that with a drink. But I went to the store and bought NA beer instead. Had three bottles last night and three left for tonight. And like last night, will switch out to herbal tea before sleeptime.

Tonight's tea is a roobios blend called jet lag that is good for sleep.3 -

Morning all,
Now that the frost and rain are gone, I planted my garden beds this week. I started seeds in my greenhouse for the first time ever in Feb. and they came up great. Blue lake green beans, tomato varietals, zucchini squash, sunflowers and herbs 🪴. Now let’s hope they continue doing well in the beds. Gardening is therapeutic for me and we love to pick and cook fresh veggies all summer.
Ready to take off for our camp trip soon! Packed lots of AF sparkling flavored waters and grapefruit and lime Fever Tree. As well as two bottles of wine - one low calorie and one regular. In my past, I would have packed a lot more. But, my goal this week is to stay within or close to calorie limits, get extra exercise outside and also have 2-3 AF nights on this getaway.
I had two unplanned glasses of Chardonnay last night while packing!

Well… my AF streak may come to an end tonight.
My mother-in-law passed out in a puddle of her own vomit yesterday morning and had to be taken to the hospital by ambulance where she underwent emergency surgery for acute aortic dissection which was so bad it completely closed up the carotid to the left side of her brain resulting in no blood flow. The surgery was a success, but she’s in very poor health as it is and the cardiac surgeon is pessimistic at best about a full recovery.
My husband does not deal well with things like this, so I have to be on full alert for him. And, my brother-in-law came into town, and he’s just a pain in my butt and thinks he knows everything and is so funny. He’s also someone who thinks the worst of people and assumes the doctors aren’t telling us everything even though they straight up told us that my MIL may not make it.
Past 24 hours have been incredibly trying for me. Husband, BIL, and hubby’s BFF are going out tonight with a couple other of hubby’s friends for a boys’ night that was planned last week before everything happened. So, it’s just me and the kids at home tonight. I’m tired and stressed… frozen pizza and wine could very well be my best friends tonight. 🥴12 -
@chicbuc , @tmbg1 and @Michieb125 (and anyone else who has mentioned herbal teas) - I also love them. Lately I've mostly been enjoying Twining Camomile, Honey and Vanilla. I kinda have to be in the mood for Roobios, but I didn't know it was good for sleep so I may have to start drinking it more often.3
-
Two other teas I like are Passionflower (Tazo) and Hibiscus (from a local tea shop).4

So sorry you're going through so much stress. There's still time to decide you don't want to. Take care of yourself and don't beat yourself up if you do slip. We all certainly understand and can empathize with the goto stress reliver.4 -
@SparkSpringtime69 and @chicbuc thank you.
I’ll try to keep it to 2 glasses, but I can’t promise anything tonight. I’ll do myself a favor and drink a glass of water between glasses of wine. That usually slows me down.5 -

Hi Everyone, I have not checked in in a long time.
I've had a scare at my physical last week. My EKG (ECG) was abnormal. This probably means there is something wrong with my heart. Nothing like that kind of news to scare you straight. I won't really know for a few weeks as I can't get in with the cardiologist until May 20. (Dr said this was OK so in a way that may mean it is not so bad? Fingers crossed).
I have eliminated all alcohol, permanently. Alcohol is terrible for your heart, just Google it. I have also done my research on heart healthy food and that is what I am eating. Fruit, veggies, lean protein, fish. Pretty much what you expect.
Please send positive vibes my way. Thank you, everyone ! XO15 -

70 days AF. That's the longest I've done in over 5 years.
I've lost 5 pounds since April 1. I'm thrilled to finally see the numbers move. No sugar, no N/A beer, and no processed food has been the game changer. Still being mindful of portions and calories as I tend to overeat cuz I eat fast. LOL. Not a fan of counting calories, but sometimes it helps to make sure I'm still within calorie range.
A bit frustrated even tho I've lost 5 lbs. I can't see any difference, but I know that's just how it is.
Glad to see continued success with everybody. Stay strong everybody.

I have a bachelor party weekend away for my future son in law this weekend. It will completely derail my progress but I can bounce back pretty quick so I will just enjoy myself...7

Hello everyone,
took a bit to catch up on posts. You are such an inspiring group!
DH and I are facing a bit/lot of uncertainty health wise. A few weeks ago we got a call from DH dr. He tested positive with a colaguard test that took him 3 weeks to finally use. Today is the colonoscopy and we won't get the results for possibly a few weeks. To say it has been stressful these last few weeks is an understatement.
I am happy to say I have not turned to A for the stress level. Surprise! But sleep is like trying to find the elusive unicorn. This is when I would justify a drink or two to sleep. I have not. Just my normal glass of wine here and there and my 1x per week beer at lunch out.
Oh btw we were in the path of 100% eclipse. Wow I have seen eclipses before but never 100% one. OMG that was an experience I am not likely to forget. The air got still, our security lights came on and I got a few pretty cool pictures.
back soon8 -
@NonnieDoiron what an scary situation for your family. My thoughts are with you.3

Accountability:9 days in April
8AF
1 lemon drop martini
My husband kept complaining that my drink was not filled to the rim of the martini glass. I reminded him that it would be tough to carry a full glass like that and besides there are standard pour measurements to follow. I was happy with it and the NEW ME only had one. YAY
I had the drink because I was thrilled with myself for not coming unglued at work Monday after a horrific comment to me from my HR person. Bind sided and completely off the rails with what was said to me (in front of the entire department staff and two brand new people starting that day )and I kept it together.
Some kind of super power helped me with that.7 -

It's too bad some people are just negative a-holes! The older I get the less tolerance I have for them... I have come to realize they must have some darkness inside of them and they can't help themselves to ruin other people's day! keep your chin up!!8 -
@NonnieDoiron thinking of you and DH as you try and navigate this serious situation. That sounds very difficult, which I know is an understatement.
@MissMay there Just know this HR person is trying to make herself/himself look good for their own lack of self worth. Confident and professional people don’t do this to others! I’m super sorry that happened.
@SunnyDays930 good to see you here and your news sounds upsetting. Waiting to be seen by a specialist is extra stressful. Hoping the reading and follow up will help prevent any serious problem!
After my husband had heart valve surgery, the surgeon told him to follow the American Heart Association guidelines for recommended servings of alcohol and diet.
@lmlmrn positive thoughts for you and your DH as you take the next step in finding out why the positive test result.
@I_am_motivated congrats on 70 days AF! I am curious, is your personal goal abstinence for the long-term and what was the deciding factor to quit? I think I would like to get to 1 x a week at some point.
Hugs to anyone else who might be experiencing physical, mental or emotional struggles today. Life is so full of up and down situations and please know we care!8 -
Set up camp yesterday and craved some wine and cheese to start happy hour early! I am not surprised as mentioned I typically have some type of adult beverage as we settle it. I pulled through and postponed this initial desire with Fever-Tree lime and yuzu in my paisley wine camp goblet. Mixed the small bottle with a regular lime La Croix. This is the first time I can remember that I did not have wine or Prosecco upon arrival at a camp site! One glass of white wine after dinner was my LA win.

Whole bottle last night. No hangover slept hard from around midnight to 5:30am when my alarm went off. Dragging a little today, but otherwise ok. Went to the CVICU to see my MIL, and she’s trying to wake up. But, she’s now on a temporary pacemaker and there is talk of putting in a permanent one. We’ll see what tomorrow brings.9 -
@NonnieDoiron Sounds like a little bit of good news for your MIL. Sending positive vibes your way!2
