Happy May everyone! ๐ฆ Iโm Kat and I live in rural NV with my boyfriend and 5 cats. Iโve been on a slow weight loss/fitness journey since February. This monthโs challenges will be heavy workload and stress at work and renovations and other projects around the house with 10 days off at the end of the month to focus completely on renovations. My main goal this month is to not burn myself out with so much going on! Mostly healthy meals, exercising when I have energy, and a healthy focus on emotional/mental health.

5/25: 111.8
5:26: 112.2 I hope everyone has been doing well! Time has been flying for me this month. By the end of the night we'll have finished with prep work and tomorrow painting will begin. The kitchen will be inaccessible for a few days so I made a few items in advance/made healthy snacks accessible, but I'll accept that I might go up a bit this week. I hit my first 10,000 steps since I've been tracking cleaning up the house all day so I'm definitely still staying active even if 'exercises' have been deprioritized for now. I hope you can all finish out the month strong and are feeling happy and healthy!2 -

Hey all, Charlene here. I'm 58yo, 5'8", married 40 years, 6 kids, 9 grandkids, and I'm a caregiver for the elderly so they can stay in their homes.
Goal weight: 150
April 30: 182.3
May 24: 183.4๐ณ
May 25: 183.4
I was expecting a bit of a rise this morning, because I was over my calories yesterday. Maybe it'll catch up to me tomorrow.
No news yet on a second interview for hubby. I worked yesterday on packing dvd movies; it looks like we started buying them in the early to mid 2000's, and continued purchasing until Netflix had streaming. I've been creating a spreadsheet of all the movies as I pack them into boxes; I'm not done yet and there are over 350. Then I start on the VCR tapes. One of our sons is having me make these lists because he can digitize them for us. That'll be nice!

@ilive2walk how beautiful, lovely pictures along the river and meadow, and the first boat ride of the season. Thank you for sharing those with us.
@deepwoodslady I had an out-loud relatability-chuckle about your comment to 3 freezers full of food! I still cook like there's 6 kids at home; but now we just use that as meal prep for workday meals. But we have an ancient [50 year old] giant sized chest freezer crammed full, and it's just the two of us. I think the only reason that freezer still works is that it hasn't moved in 22 years and it's stayed full the entire time. I can make similar commentary about how that has a direct correlation to my own padding...
I also hope maybe your scale just needs a fresh battery?
Hmmm, interesting point about animal rescue for the towels, thank you ๐ค - I'll check with a relative on that. ๐

Two pounds to go in a little under a weekโฆ.i will have to be very careful this long weekend. I did my 1 hour workout yesterday and then ate chipotle lol. Thatโs all I ate for the day though bc itโs so delicious and my entire calories for the day bc they have amazing tortillas. Hoping tomorrow we go to a friends pool so I can get some different leisurely exercise in, and then we plan on yard work Monday. Just have to stay away from the fridge lol.
Thanks all for your encouraging words! 20lbs down and 18 to go until my old normal weight. Trying to get back down to my old โheavyโ weight before the 14th when I go home for a visit and then hop back on the wagon to reach my ultimate goal. Kind of glad I am working out a lot bc my stamina has def increased and we are making a trip to the Mall of America, the zoo, aquarium etc so the cousins can run around.

05/24-183.4-(Trend Weight 186.6)- Iโm not sure that I completely believe this 2.2 lb drop overnight. I have dropped that much in a 24 hour period before but it seems extreme to have two large drops in the same week. I did burn a lot of extra calories yesterday with a workout video in the morning and then an hour of raking and hauling leaves but it is still questionable. I have another scale that does not give me as much information so I tested that one too. Itโs usually about .2 to .4 higher than my daily scale but this time it was .8 more and at nearly a pound different I am definitely questioning todayโs reading. I guess tomorrow will tell. Wishing you all a great weekend. Be safe, have fun, and remember our fallen heros and those we have lost and love.
05/25-184.6-(Trend Weight 186.4)- Well, I thought the scale was very wrong yesterday and I was right. During the reno my scale is not in my usual spot and Iโm afraid the floor may be a bit unlevel where Iโm forced to weigh at this point. However, Iโm still down from day before yesterday which I do think is correct. Iโll probably take the scale to a more reliable location in the house tomorrow as Iโm leary after yesterdayโs (too) low weigh-in. Tomorrow is my family BBQ at my oldest daughterโs house for the Memorial Day celebration. I look forward to spending time with them all. I will try to choose wisely for my meals although BBQโs tend to be high in sodium. I guess its only a day in the life.

My name is Donna. I am 5โ 5โ tall, 64 years old and from Michigan USA. In 2016 I weighed 253 lbs. I am on a journey of health and to get back to the real me.
Every healthy habit brings me closer to scratching each of these off to NEVER see them again!

05/26-184.6-(Trend Weight 186.4)- No change on the scale today. I know I belong back in the 170โs. I donโt deserve the 160โs yet, but the 170โs is where my true home is (for now). Iโve just got to get back there! Iโve been feeling pretty lost since February, but I think Iโm back on the right path now. Not the perfect path, but the right path. Iโm sure I will not hit my goal this month. May was my birthday month, Motherโs Day celebrations and now the Memorial Day Holiday. However, I will aim to show a loss of any kind just to be on the right track going into June. Today is the family BBQ. I donโt expect that the scale will be a friendly place tomorrow but I will work on it hard this week. Memorial weekend unofficially marks the beginning of summer in the USA. Letโs do Summer strong!

Hello,
Iโm starting in today even though it isnโt a beginning of a month because there is no time like now! I was at a really stressful job and bad habits made me gain a lot of weight. I am now at a new job, and the weight was coming off, but then it stopped. I tried to actively lose weight alone, but seemed to be treading water, so now am reaching out for community.
I went back to tracking today. Non-weight goals are to make my porridge every day and have standardized meals, with a different salad or soup added in. Exercise goals are to stretch 2x a day and walk 5 days a week, minimum a mile.

I've thought carefully about the next steps for me in "retraining my brain" to maintain my weight where I am now. Right now I am in (4) challenges here, and while I benefit from each, it's very time consuming to log for all of them so I'm going to take a break from this group after May is complete. I'll continue to see some of you in other challenges, and thanks to all for the support and comments through the last 5 months/153 days- good luck to all of you!2 -
Hey all, Charlene here. I'm 58yo, 5'8", married 40 years, 6 kids, 9 grandkids, and I'm a caregiver for the elderly so they can stay in their homes.

Yesterday began at 6am when a strong thunderstorm hit a nearby transformer and our power went out. We all woke up hearing it blow. So, dear son, DIL, and I sat outside in lawn chairs on the front porch with my little portable propane grill, and talked while he cooked breakfast. I didn't get any coffee, because I'd loaned my French press to my daughter; but I had some Assam tea, so at least a little caffeine got into my brain. Honestly though, it was a very camping-like experience, with two of my favorite people, and the wild boys running around. It'll be a cherished memory. They had to go back home yesterday afternoon and I was sad to see them go; but I get a grandma's sleepover with the boys in July.
In the de-stashing category, I have a few vintage-inspired dresses from when I was at my goal weight; I hated having to donate them; so I did an experiment: alterations on this one, to turn it into a cooking apron. It worked perfectly! And now I'll be able to wear this favorite dress more often.

@kebass01 great to hear about stamina increasing!
@deepwoodslady glad you found the solution to the unreliable scale reading. I love how you said you live in the 170's now.
@ozdeelite I hope you're feeling better soon.
@numer1ca welcome, welcome! No time like the present to get encouragement!
@judefit1 sad to see you go; but, it's understandable. Thank you for keeping us informed and giving us time send you our bon voyage.2 -

๐ท๐ชปMay Starting Weight: 151.6๐ชป๐ทEach Month I write a reflection on how the month went. Here's My April Reflection if anyone wants to read:April 2024 Reflection
April was basically a frustrating weight loss month; lost 1.2 pounds. Didnโt reach my stretch or regular weight loss goal. At least it wasnโt a gain. Started off the month with indulging on Easter, then took an overnight trip to see the Eclipse and was also off plan. Then mid-month realized I had a problem with my bathroom scale โ apparently, I have been underestimating my weight for a while โ new scale new weight and it wasnโt pretty. Worked hard the last couple weeks, and at least I got down to below my starting weight โ which who knows if that was correct. For May โ my goal is to get into the 140s come hell or high water.
I have been successful with the exercise, averaging well over my 17K goal, and tracked a little over 250 miles again in April; year to date a little over 1,000; almost have way there. I am also on track for intentional miles with a little over 750 miles to date.
I have been keeping on plan with my cardio and strength routines. I alternate one day of cardio and then one day of strength. Although I do not like them much, I add one stretch type routine weekly. I have been having some trouble with some pain in my knees โ so found a stretching knee exercise that I began adding daily at the end of the month. I have an appointment with the Doctor May 1 to see what she says. Hopefully, I can continue to walk and wonโt have to take a break.
I started re-reading the first book of the Harry Potter series, along with my Hogwarts Challenge. I finished โThe Masked Cityโ and am on the third book of the Invisible Library Series โ โThe Burning Pageโ.
The next round of The Biggest Loser starts May 1. We have a full team, and I spent a lot of time in-between rounds getting ready. Looking forward to the start. The Hogwarts Challenge started; always a fun one. I rejoined Fat2Fit - I can do it.- My May Goals:
- Get into the 140 range!
- Log 150 intentional miles; and 250 in overall miles
- Alternate days of Cardio and Strength Training
- Stretch 3 days per week
- Average 17K steps per day
- Read almost every day
Here is my before and after picture for April. Not much different than last month but found a new before picture and took an after at the same spot.
ME! A good day for me yesterday; got it all done and had some Me time. I love a new month - a fresh start; and so glad to be back.
ME! A nice swish - hope it stays off. Still working towards that old scale number (had to replace the old scale mid-April and the new scale was ugly and not nice). As much as I hate to say it, the new scale was right. Went to the doctor yesterday and the numbers matched to the decimal. Nice day yesterday - moved bingo night with the family to Wednesday this week. Noone won, but it is always fun.
I should keep my mouth quiet when I have big downside - it always bites me in the butt. Busy day yesterday. Got our morning walk done, then worked in the garden most of the day. Spread the rest of the soil and turned it in. Got the carrots, potatoes, and parsnips planted. Cleaned up the screened porch which was filled with garden stuff. Exhausted, so of course binged a little - but with all the exercise today came just under my calorie limit - with binging of course went over the sodium limit.
Another busy day in the garden, also busy with a relay race in another challenge that I am in - kept me busy all day.
What I expected (or a gain). Relay race for the Hogwarts challenge and the garden (finished) kept me so busy yesterday when dinnertime came I said I'm too exhausted to cook - we got subway, which has so much sodium, then I had pretzels, and cookies - ate all my exercise calories. Had two calories left for the day! I did take a beautiful walk in the morning yesterday along the Connecticut River and got this shot with the sun reflecting in the water - and they put the docks in, guess that means it's time to get the boat ready!
ME! First smile in a while! I don't give them until I am under my last recorded low weight. Finally got under the old scale weight. Rested a little yesterday, didn't reach my step goal - but way over my 17K average goal. Tonight is bingo night with Mom- going to resist the junk!
ME! Nice night with mom, noone won. I'm up on the scale - but was under my calorie limit and sodium limit - so thinking just normal flucuations.
ME! Nice day yesterday - super warm. Hubby had a PT appointment so got some me time while he was gone. Monty and I snuggled on the couch and watched MY tv shows. I usually watch them on the treadmill. It was nice. The scale is kind of being stubborn - showed me a little dance on Monday - but it was just a tease. We got the boat uncovered. We were going to wash it today- but got a call from Allyson this morning - she's having trouble with her AC unit - so going over for a Daddy-Do to see what we can do to fix it (or replace).
Ordered a new AC Unit - old one bit the dust. Busy day with the daddy-dos so had a hard tme fitting in the excercise - I felt very good about myself because I accomplished everything in my plan.
ME! It's temporary, but I'll take it. Today taking Mom out for Mother's Day - so expect a rise tomorrow. Going to our favorite seafood restaurant. But I have seen the 40s and they look nice!
May 11: 150.0 ๐ฃ ๐ ๐ฅ๐ซ๐ฆ๐ ๐ฎ Nice day with Mom yesterday to celebrate Mother's day. Today going to visit Greg's cousin (actually his Mom's cousin). Greg's Mom passed quite a few years ago, and his cousin is his closest Mom figure.
May 12: 149.8 ๐๐ ๐ฅ๐ช ๐ฆ๐ง๐ Missed my step goal, left the house at 6AM and didn't get back until 4PM - did get my workout done. I don't know how all you that work do it. I was exhausted and was just sitting chatting for 6 hours. Although I missed my step goal I did hit the 1,100 mile marker for my 2,024 in 2024 goal.
ME! I have been having some pain in my knees for a couple weeks now. When I had my doctor's appointment last week - my doctor said to keep walking, and referred me to an orthopedic doctor (appointment tomorrow). I have been pushing through to get my step and cardio goals done. The last couple of days, have been hurting a lot so slowed down a little. Just did a stretch workout and a couple smaller walks. I am anxious about what the doctor will say tomorrow.
ME! Well, yesterday after my walk - my knee froze up and now I can put any weight on it. Perfect timing - as I have my othopedic appointment today. Did not weigh because I can't step up on the scale. Using crutches - hope they can do something - but it looks like I won't be getting in those walks for the near future. I won't let it de-rail me. I'll have to do some upper body workouts unti I get it figured out.
May 15: 150.2 ๐๐ช ๐ซ๐ฆ๐ง๐ ๐ฎ ME! Went to the doctor, arthritis in both knees, but concerned it could me a meniscus tear on left side (which doesn't show up on an xray). Have to wait for insurance to approve, then going for an MRI. In the meantime, stay off for a week or two, and ibuprofen to reduce swelling. Upper exercises, and eating less for the time being, and have to figure out my diet without having the exercise calories to rely on. Was a tad over yesterday. I did find some seated cardio and strength routines that I tried, but . . . .
ME! Got it all done, except the steps (won't hit that for a while). I'm thinking the garmin overestimates the seated workouts calories. Feeling a little better, I can walk without the crutches. One step at a time. And I had TOO much ME time!
ME! Very frustrating. I found a bunch of seated exercise routines and reached my 100 minutes of intentional goal - but it really apparent that the Garmin must over estimate how much I burned. I think today I won't record any exercise on my Garmin and just have a really light eating day. I have an appointment next Thursday (Yes a long way out) for an MRI. I was going to cancel because it seems to be getting better, and then I said "No, let's just do it to rule out anything major."
ME! I took a short slow walk yesterday and did ok. Then the a lot of seated exercise to get my 100 minutes in. Didn't use any exercise calories towards my calorie limit and came 33 calories under my limit. I wasn't hungry - I don't eat because I'm hungry - never have. I eat because I like food. Today am celebrating Mother's Day and Allyson's 30th birthday - going out to lunch. Will have a very small breakfast and light dinner to compensate.I really would like to see the 140s again soon.
May 19: 152.6 ๐ ๐ช ๐ซ๐ฆ๐ ๐ฎ ME! It's what I expected. Out to lunch, and then that started me on the snacking instead of a light dinner. Way over the calorie limit and sodium - back to it today. Hoping the body quickly reverses my sabotage.
May 21: 150.8๐ ๐ฅ ๐ฆ๐ง๐๐ฎME! Finally the swish I was looking for. Almost met my step goal yesterday - getting back to it.
ME! I made my step goal Woo Hoo! A little sore, but I did it. MRI of course is tomorrow and I'm feeling better - still going to do it. It's a waste of ๐ต, they will tell me I'm nuts - but at least I will know.
ME! Well that was disappointing. Probably due to the higher sodium dinner last night, but I was under my sodium goal. Finished planting the garden - now just to wait to see what grows and control the pests!
May 23: 150.4 ๐ ๐ฅ๐ช ๐ฆ๐ง๐ ๐ฎ ME! Had my MRI, good news is that we had met our deductible for the year so just a small co-pay. Really glad I said yes - now the waiting game for the doctor to get the results and then make the follow-up to see what it says. In the meantime, the knee feels better and I am getting in my walks. Allyson had an issue with her car, after being out with her friends, she got in her car to go home and the headlights didn't work - so we drove to her house after she got out of work - luckily it was just the bulbs. Dad replaced and the we drove home - she lives about 45 mintues away so my afternoon walk was cut a little short. Found a new strength workout channel on youtube that I tried. I liked.
May 24: 150.6 ๐ฃ ๐ ๐ฅ ๐ฆ๐ง๐ ๐ฎ ME! Beautiful day on the water yesterday. Kind of a rest day for me. Got my steps in, but no other workouts - a nice walk at the Meadows yesterday, then we finished prepping the boat, and got our first ride of the season. Boating season has officially begun. The water is still a little chilly (73 degrees).
ME! Another beautiful day - church was having a plant sale, so we bought three flats of annuals. Planted most of them, planted marigolds and snapdragons around the vegetables to help keep the bugs away, and in the front of the house for color. Still have another 1/2 flat to go. Got my walks in and a short cardio workout, then relaxed in the afternoon. It was a nice day.
ME! Just noticed that I have been off one day for my dates for a while - don't know where the error started. LOL !Finished planting the flowers. Today is a rest day, going to meet my sisters at Foxwood Casino for an afternoon of gambling ๐ฐ. Wish me luck!

Chugging a long 1.2 pounds to go in 4 days. Pushing hard and really watching what I eat, drinking a lot of water. We did yard work yesterday then went to a friends for ribs and potato salad while the kids played in a water slide. Held myself to 2 ribs and a half cup of potato salad then a protein yogurt when I got home. Heading to a pool cook out later today where we are doing burgers, chicken, and the sides. Hoping I can sneak in some water workout while chit chatting and then no bun with my burger if I go that route.3 -

Hello,
Yesterday went well, and I met my goals and had 131 calories left over for the day. Donโt worry - I start out at 1600, cals, so this is sustainable and Iโm not starving myself. I dropped a little weight, but Iโm trying to get back down another 2.5 pounds which is my true starting point for this leg of the journey. I really slipped for about a week there. Thatโs why tracking and support are going to be important.
I found a soup to make for the week - I can make it tonight and then eat it for lunch at work. I am really wanting greens, so I can also make a light salad for dinner. Iโm having a wedge salad for dinner for 2 more days. Itโs all veggies except for the dressing, which I measure and track. Iโm not bothering with the veggies, because they are so low.
Today I am looking forward to putting in the tomato plants, pulling ivy, cleaning the living room, and I am not looking forward to doing my side jobs taxes and my employed job of 2 reports. 4 hours of my life gone. Le Sigh. I was a stay at home mom for 16 years, and am rebuilding my professional life. Itโs not easy.
@cattherien Youโre apron is beautiful! I love the way you were able to save a dress you love without just keeping it in a drawer or hanging in the closet. Way to find joy!
*** Previous***
Iโm starting in today even though it isnโt a beginning of a month because there is no time like now! I was at a really stressful job and bad habits made me gain a lot of weight. I am now at a new job, and the weight was coming off, but then it stopped. I tried to actively lose weight alone, but seemed to be treading water, so now am reaching out for community.
I went back to tracking today. Non-weight goals are to make my porridge every day and have standardized meals, with a different salad or soup added in. Exercise goals are to stretch 2x a day and walk 5 days a week, minimum a mile.

May 1: 305.4 No water aerobics class today, as I was needed to watch my youngest grandchild (a 3 month old girl ) while my son and his fiancรฉ took care of some phone calls with the insurance company. They were rear ended by a pickup truck yesterday, (the whole rear of their car was smashed in) and thank God they came through it with only whiplash. The baby came out without a scratch, even though the back seat and her car seat were shoved all the way into the back of the front seat. They were very, very fortunate. My husband took us out to eat afterwards to a new-to-us restaurant. The food was really good, and while I ate mostly healthy and stayed under my calories for the day, I did indulge in some breaded and fried zucchini. So we'll see what that's going to cost me, when I weigh myself tomorrow.

May 28: 150.6 ๐ ME! What I expected, had a nice time yesterday - didn't win. Knee is bothering me again, so chair workouts today.

I expected this; salty food, plus went over and ate some of my exercise calories.
I worked on de-stashing again yesterday on an area of my life that I was dreading having to face: my sewing stuff. I have been sewing since 1985. I mostly create clothes or alter thrift store garments, or I make practical items like tote bags, pot holders etc. I dreaded this gathering process because I feel like I'm a fabric hoarder. I had fabric or unfinished sewing projects stashed all over this big house: in the basement, garage, kitchen, and in my craft room. I sorted through it to see what I wanted to keep [it's like... Which of my children do I want to give away? But I gave it honest critique, filled 8 donate bags which reduced my fabric stash by half, and packed the rest away.2 -

05/28-187.2-(Trend Weight 186.4)- I had the family BBQ on Sunday for the Holiday and then went out-of-town shopping on Monday. Iโm up 2.6 lbs from the weekend which really doesnโt surprise me since itโs been nothing but a food fest. I did not even get to post yesterday until almost 11:00 at night! Back on track today. I am going to try sticking to mainly liquids today with just one meal later tonight. If I donโt eat until about 9:00 I may be able to get by with no snacks even though I stay up pretty late. A day of liquids is not something I normally do but I really want to restrict calories today, just for the day. I would like to get rid of the bloat and as much of the 2.6 as I possibly can. What a morale booster that would be! Itโs almost the end of the month and end of the round. I would really love to end on a loss of any kind although that is not looking too likely.

I had a really good day food and energy wise today. Food wise is not surprising because I am feeding my body what it wants. I made my porridge, which is so important to a good start. And I made the soup, so I had plenty of healthy food to eat. When I feed myself, I donโt get desperate and eat so that I am not starving. I have 191 calories left today, so I am motivated to do my walk and get another few calories. My kid is grabbing me a nice tomato, so I can have the wedge salad I am craving. And I should be about ready for my bedtime routine after that.
I got the tomato plants in yesterday, but have one more waterwall to complete - Iโll try for that tomorrow. I didnโt get the living room clean though. Maybe Iโll try to work that in tomorrow as its my work from home day and I get back an hour and 40 minutes of commute time.
I kept trying to build in a little stretch time at work today and it just didnโt happen. I need so little. 30 seconds, but I could only get 10 and then Iโd be interrupted. I did my first set, finally, right before coming on here. So thanks for the motivation! Working with the tomatoes, hauling bags of mulch, and pulling Ivey did a number on my back yesterday - which meant a throbbing knee. I had to take advil to sleep! This is why the stretching is so important.
Good news! I found my watch, in my purse (so silly). Itโs a small purse, but the watch band is a dark color. Now I can time my stretches better.
I am going to add in the goal of gettting more sleep. I need it.
@cattherien - itโs that time of year! I am going through the pantry to try and clean some of it out. Iโm not ready for the arts and crafts, remaining kids toys, or my knitting things yet. There is so much other cleaning and decluttering to do!
Get more sleep.

May 28: 150.6 ๐ ME! What I expected, had a nice time yesterday - didn't win. Knee is bothering me again, so chair workouts today.
ME! Got it all done, but I hate working out in a chair.
