Question: How many of you call the evening meal supper. I grew up calling lunch dinner and the evening meal supper. All through my marriage I called the evening meal dinner but lately am thinking of it as supper.
Son and grandson came today and brought me roses and champagne! DIL and granddaughter are in another part of town doing soccer tournaments. I made the men folks fried ham, scrambled eggs, biscuits, and grits (brunch for lunch I guess). Anyway, they ate every bit. Grandson (aged 14) is now 6'2" and weighs 215 and boy can he put away the food. And, he still lets me kiss the back of his neck goodbye. Win, Win!
Love to you all,

I forgot I had a funny little story to share.
Lauryn’s husband is a Colorado Avalanche fan, I asked Lauryn today if they were still in the playoffs.
She said she didn’t know, but Michaela piped up and said that yes they were.
Lauryn said that she, Michaela, probably knew more than her.
Michaela again speaks up and says, “hmmm hmm, I watch with daddy even though I don’t know much about soccer.” Lauryn and I start to giggle and she says, “I mean hockey.”

hot here today but the dogs woke me early so we could walk early and still have time for some yard work before it got too hot. I am so grateful for our air conditioning.

Carol - I grew up with breakfast, lunch and supper. To keep it interesting, the meal after Church on Sunday was dinner, even though it was a noon time meal. Now I call the evening meal dinner.

Carol - We always had dinner and tea, or 'High tea' if there was a hot savoury. We had 'School dinners'. Supper was something before bed, like a bit of bread and cheese.
Now I have a light lunch, and a substantial dinner in the early evening.
I've just climbed my way down two flights of stairs to take out of the freezer the bread rolls and parma ham for John's cricket lunch tomorrow. It's 2.45 in the morning! Forgot to do it before bed, even though I went into the kitchen to do it. I ended up having a glass of water instead. While I was in the freezer , I decided to finish off the vanilla ice cream and take it up to bed with me. I've eaten it.
On my way down the very creaky loft stairs I woke up John, who came out, as I was going up, to visit the toilet. He didn't see the ice cream in the dark. I will confess in the morning.
It's going to be hot tomorrow. Might have to take my socks off.

A day that resonates with me came up just recently. I spend lots of days without shoes or with limited shoe time. And I prefer not wearing socks either.
My feet are happiest without anything constricting them, irritating them, or rubbing holes into them.

In Australia we have:
- Breakfast (early morning meal)
- Brunch (late morning meal)
- Lunch (early afternoon meal)
- Smoko/Coffee (mid-afternoon coffee and snack).
- Dinner/Tea (late afternoon/early evening meal. Often the big meal of the day)
- Supper (mid-evening snack)
So someone might ask you round for Coffee, at which time you'll be asked if you would like coffee, tea or something cold, and likely some sort of snack will appear.
Later, someone might ask what you'd like to do for Tea, and you might ask if the local Pub has Parmas and if they do, you'll opt for that.
Then, back home in the evening, someone might ask if you'd like anything for Supper ... they've got some fruit or crackers and cheese or a bit of cake.

Today my grand daughter turned 5 years old. I was able to video chat with her this morning before they went to the zoo. They also had a photo shoot. They look grand in blues.🤗Rebecca

Well today the guys worked trying to at least make a path to walk on the floor. They had put glue and paper dissolver on the floor and have still had to hack away at it. Whatever the people used to attach the linoleum really did a number on it!
The guys also switched the hot and cold on the faucet. Wondering if it affects the dishwasher? Something to ask on Monday. So right now they are coming to next week probably a couple days to attach backsplash, fill in seams on coubtertop, scrap away what they can on the floor, and they also promised to put some plywood up in the ceiling of the garage. There's a square hole there up to the attic access and we have always wanted a door with a latch on it. It just looks too inviting.
The floor guys come on the 20th. Then these guys will come back to put the trim back on. I will be surprised at what kind of flooring we do get.
Today at the commissary I got some protein shakes chai flavored and Atkins brand. I just liked the 5 mg of sugar option, and just something easy when I don't want to cook anything. It was a pack of 4 so not like I will be doing it frequently.
We have eaten fast food way too much this past week. I feel achy and sluggish from it all! The downside of not having access to kitchen fridge or anything. I told husband that next month will be "no junk food June"!

Machka - thanks for the priority quote, I was visiting with a friend the other day who is 63 years old and is sick, allergies or a sinus infection She has been sick for 3 weeks, so I asked if she has been to the Doctor and no was the answer in fact she has not been in 8 years, it has been 30 years since her last pap smear, NEVER had a mamo or a coloscopy (or one of the poo sticks). I asked her that question isn't your health a priority? Do you not want to see your grandkids graduate from high school.
She dodged the question. I just sent her a screen shot of that quote.

Carol - I grew up with lunch as the noon time meal. Supper for our main meal in the evening. When it was a big meal like Christmas, Easter, Thanksgiving we called it dinner whatever time the big feast was.
Hugs from the grands are the best!
Machka - I love bare feet too. I absolutely dislike things on my feet, unfortunately my foot pain isn’t allowing it lately.
Love the priority message.
Rebecca - I love the family photos! I can’t believe she’s 5 already.
I have watched most of the 3 hour Weight Watchers and Oprah special on YouTube tonight. I wanted to see some of the people she was interviewing but ended up enjoying the whole thing.
I’m off to bed soon,

been a long day so not going to write too much.
Up at 4:30 to drive to the Lodi show. Sales were great. Exactly doubled what I was hoping to get.
Amazing for a 6 hour show.
It was HOT over there and no AC in the building and very little breeze from the doors that they had opened(at least we were not too far from the doors so did get a bit of a breeze). Not sure how hot it got but at 5PM when we were packing up, it was 92!
Some more MIL drama so we had to stop there before even coming home but we didn't stay over there. Both too tired to deal with her.
Going to grab a quick shower and head for bed.

Proud of myself.
Just now, I listened to a podcast by The Imperfects, in which they interviewed James Clear, the guy who wrote Atomic Habits. I always listen to some 'improving' podcast while I am doing my exercises. The interview encouraged me to write a few sentences of my new book, "What If ..... I Am". I've been planning it for a while, and jotting down ideas, but not actually written sentences. So..... I wrote 50 words.
I haven't felt very creative recently, with my mind on pain, but a couple of sentences have been rattling around my brain.
Following his guidelines, I decided to write the two. And a few more. Hooray! 50 words more than yesterday.
Feels very G...O...O...D.

Good morning, cherubs.
I didn’t get back on last night as I was watching Eurovision. It’s a tradition I follow in memory of a dear friend. She hosted Eurovision parties most years. She had diabetes, and was found dead in her bath on the morning after Eurovision a number of years ago. She had gone into a diabetic coma. I console myself with the fact that she went happy. RIP, dear Carole.

Saturday: small town. At the master gardeners’ plant sale, ran into acquaintances from fire district, dog group and casserole crew. Later at art center opening ran into R from T’ai Chi and coach from BB&B.
Friday: T seemed ok postponing our redwood walk, we both wanted to stay home and do “stuff”
Thursday: TUMS.
Rosemarie would you consider adding raised beds on top of that too rooty soil?
Monique wouldn’t it be great if our dogs would assist our yoga practice like the goats do?
Okie amazing the aurora showed all the way down to the TX Hill country.
Tracey gorgeous pics, thanks for sharing. It was seen in our neighborhood here but I hadn’t heard so missed chance to go out and look. Tonight the fog returned so I’m out of luck. Did see it once when we lived in Boise. Green curtains.
Terri I’ll have what you’re having plus the chocolate…
Carol the evening meal is sometimes dinner and sometimes supper. “I love to go out for dinner.” “Would you like to stop by for supper?” Hope DH’s appointment went well.
Can’t seem to get it together to consistently do my PT exercises and balance games. If I have to be out of the house early, they just don’t happen. Let’s see if I can get up early enough tomorrow to get them in before leaving for church.
Later, lighter, lovelies!

Happy Mother’s Day to those in the U.S. who celebrate. I spent a lot of years avoiding the day after I found out I couldn’t have kids of my own in 1985, and even more so after my mother died in 1999. Then after I married Corey and got a 15-year-old son and a 17-year-old daughter, 15 years ago now, I started making up for lost time. Life is funny. John and Soraya brought me a marigold plant, and promised to return for Corey's birthday/Father's Day in June.
Tracey – Your cards were terrific and your photos are gorgeous, thanks for sharing them! Unfortunately, I was too tired to stay up late enough to see the Aurora Borealis. Fortunately, that is because I was sleeping well. Kinda loving your grands, as always!
Terri – Absolutely loved the cards you made.
Heather – I’m sorry for your DSIL’s pain. After my first husband’s secretive habits, it has been an amazing relief to live with a man who really is an open book. I think the quote is “You’re only as sick as your secrets.” My first husband had lots of them, and no intention of ever giving them up—and in the end, it’s what killed the marriage. I came into my second marriage terribly suspicious about what my husband could be hiding, and I can say after 15 years that Corey doesn’t keep secrets. He was very patient with my foibles on that front. Glad to see you writing again…
Rita – I’m so pleased your middle daughter reached out, and hope that someday she gets it together enough to realize what she loses when she shuts people out. Genuinely not easy for a 40-year-old to change that much, though. Try to keep your expectations low…
Lanette – Nothing yet on my BIL’s plans. Had to put it to the side. Old Texas saying, seen it from lots of possible sources, “Don’t trouble trouble until trouble troubles you.” Trying to do that. Really trying.
Sue in WA – Hope everything’s settled down now that the horrible renter person has departed… Will you be renting the place out again?
Allie – Things work out like they’re supposed to, in the end, glad the docs are keeping a close eye on Tracey. Hope you’re keeping up with your own health while you’re trying to make sure everyone else is OK…
Beth – The celebration with your mom sounds lovely. Hope the activation is a great success, and glad the side effects are subsiding.
Carol – So glad your son and grandson acknowledged Mother's Day for you. Sounds very yummy, and an awful lot of work for you! We had breakfast, lunch and supper growing up, brunch was not a thing in the country, didn’t even hear that word until I left home. Dinner was “dinner on the ground,” at church, or holiday dinners. Now for Corey and me, there's dinner and a snack for anything eaten after dinner, we seldom eat lunch formally or together, but we always eat dinner together… sometimes he makes each of us a different dish, but at least we’re together. Hope there’s good news from your husband’s doctor(s).
Barbie – Hot here too, enough that we relaxed inside after about 1 p.m. on Saturday, it was uncomfortable to work outside.
Rebecca – The grands are so just beautiful, and simply can’t believe Athena is already five! What a lovely photoshoot! So sorry the kitchen is in an uproar, but it will sure be nice to have it done and have a sturdy floor underfoot.
Machka – Love that priority message, too. It really strikes at the heart of what we want, doesn’t it.
Kim – Was so pleased to see you pop up with your barmy little bulldog story, just because it was nice to see you, but I know that had to be unnerving to live with, even for a short time. Knew a couple with a Yorkshire terrier, a tiny little male, uncut. That dog basically humped a stuffed Baby Minnie soft doll everywhere he went, every waking moment. It was built to sit up, and when he flipped it over, it was the right size for a mate, apparently. He would just push it everywhere he went, humping all the way. Weirdly, when they tried to have him mated, he was utterly uninterested in his own species. Just wanted his Baby Minnie. Never heard of a female dog having that same tic, though.
And on that note, I'll close this... More later, most likely.
Love y'all,
Lisa in AR3 -

And... here I am back again,
Wrenching myself back to my routines has been kind of fits and starts, but am getting there. Did yoga on Friday, worked out in the yard quite a bit of the morning yesterday, and plan on yoga once my gut has settled down this morning. Hopefully reasonably soon. Got my Fitbit charging - I was doing that every Sunday, but got off that schedule too.
Not the end of the world, all that, just understanding myself a little better and why these things are done on these days or at that time again. We get wound up in our routines to the point where we don't remember why we do these things a certain way or at all.
In general, though, simply glad to have my house and my schedule and my life moving back toward my normal. I'm OK with being set in my ways. Each way has a reason, and each movement and timing has a purpose. Funny how something that was an insult when younger now gets the response, "Uh-huh, what's your point?"
I know this sounds goofy, but I was honestly kind of glad that I had one of my really rough days (gut-wise) while my friend was here, and it let her know what I mean when I say I'm having a "bad day." And I had more than one "good day," while she was here, as well. It's also the first time in around ten years that she's come to where I live instead of vice versa. Having that clear picture lets her know where I am physically while I'm talking to her on the phone, and when I send her pictures, she will know what has changed here, too.
Amusing myself when working on my quilt by picking up all my favorite British shows again: Picked up AcornTV again to watch Brokenwood Mysteries, as season 10 has begun, as well as to pick up Midsomer Murders season 24. Sister Boniface has started a new season as well on Britbox, and we watch QI season U each Monday there, which I love with Sandy Toksvig. Wasn't fond of it with Stephen Fry as the host in its early years. Also indulging in whimsy with Black Books, a quirky little British sitcom from the early 2020s, on Freevee. Staying with the Commonwealth, just finished re-watching Corner Gas out of Canada. I think that's my third binging of all eight seasons of that show, if I'm not mistaken.
And... one more cup of coffee for Corey, and then I think it's yoga time. Hope it's a peaceful Sunday, all,
Much love from the middle of the country,
Lisa in Arkansas

Happy US Mother's Day to all you moms of kids, grandkids, pets, livestock, spouses, etc.
Carol - I grew up with breakfast, dinner for the noon meal and supper for the evening meal. Now, it's breakfast, lunch and supper for just me or dinner with others if that makes sense. Also, where I grew up, sweet carbonated drinks like Pepsi were "pop." My DH grew up calling them "soda" which I thought was odd. To me soda was "pop" with ice cream added. They say American English is a confusing language. I'll say - even confusing to Americans.
Sounds like a nice Mother's Day. Your DGS is shooting up like a weed, wow.
Heather - so happy to hear you are writing again. Your trip up and down the stairs reminded me of the Mother's Day dinner I went to yesterday.
Lovely home built on a hillside, a "split level" here in the US. Lots of stairs - there's no level entry to the house from the front or back that doesn't involve at least ten steps, a landing, then more steps. Great for a younger person who needs to keep in shape. Hip, knee or foot problems or surgery....not sure how a person would negotiate that.
Debbie - glad the sales were great and the items were a hit. Beautiful assortment!
Rebecca - very nice photos of your DMS and family. I too remember when Athena was born - your grands are growing up so fast. Crossing fingers the dishwasher is plumbed correctly. I know you are very anxious to get your kitchen back, don't blame you for being tired of the disruption.
Lisa - you are spot on with your observation about being set in our ways - our routines and habits developed for a purpose. I still have moments of questioning why I do this or that and realize - it's the way DH and I did it. So I decide to do some things "my way" and realize, in most cases, the old way is best. If and when I get a different house, then it will be all my way.
I decided to subscribe to PBS Masterpiece for a month and found a French series called "The Mountain Detective" set in the French Alps. The series focuses on a detective Alex Hugo, who is part of a small rural police agency. The scenery is stunning, plots and characters engaging. Even though they are speaking French, there are subtitles and it's easy to follow. I'm hooked.
Yesterday was so hot and windy. Much better today, will be on the mower this afternoon.

I had a lovely long chat with G today. Her sciatica is raging, but she really loved her trip to Paris and her Dior sunglasses. She hasn't dared get them out of the box in case she doesn't like them any more!
Mine arrived unexpectedly early and are fabulous
Very green As I am wearing a lot of navy, and black and white, this season, I am very happy.
They come in a sweet gold soft case.
John out at cricket. I had to abandon my plan of a lamb and sweetcorn curry, because it takes too much yoghurt and we're nearly out, but I will do lamb and lentil curry, with added broad beans.
Weather glorious.
Tracey - Your grandchildren so remind me of mine. After John lost his temper with them on Friday, Max said, "I apologise for exacerbating the situation. "

Just got a new lot of photos from DDIL. This is the other hat Max chose for his birthday present. His parents were persuaded to pay for it, and they all went to pick it up today by train.
On the way back they stopped at the Sealife Centre.
Wish I could have joined them!
