I learned a long time ago to not compare my insides with someone else's outsides. While I was a rumbling bucket of anxiety in the dentist's waiting room, everyone else looked serene. The new young dentist was very thorough and kind as was his assistant but the exam and x-rays showed what I feared-- two small cavities that will be filled next month and a cavity in a cracked wisdom tooth that can't be filled and will have to be extracted. I have all my teeth and have worked hard to keep them but I guess I'll have to put on my big girl pants and do what I don't want to do.

weather was great, especially while walking the wetlands. I made a point of really enjoying every bit of it.
Drama with dh(nothing new there. More drama with them again tonight. He isn't home yet. I am not looking forward to when he does get home) and the fact that Ezie has no school tomorrow so I don't get to walk the dog or the wetlands tomorrow and then no class on Monday. There was just the right amount of breeze.
Will finish the day at just over 17,000 steps today.
Ezie and I will work in the garden tomorrow. She will plant the potatoes(two kinds). She will dig, mix the soil, plant then water them. I am hoping I can get her to do some sidewalk chalk in the front so I can dead head the roses. If not, I will do them this weekend.
Will be doing yard work at MIL's on Sat. again. Shouldn't take too long but who knows.
BBQ at church but I won't be going-don't feel like going by myself.
I do need to work on the 3d printed stuff- have a show in two weeks in Antioch. Supposed to be a really big one. Have a basket full that need to be cleaned then bagged up.

Yeah, the dental experience is never nice. If they're doing a lot of work, I usually take a couple pain killers and a gravol before to relax me and make me sleepy.
I know I've got more work that needs doing, but after I get this crown finished, I don't plan on going back until something starts bothering me.
You've done well to keep your teeth.
I work with aged care data and one of the government dental goals I read recently is to ensure that by the time people go into residential care, they still have at least 20 teeth. I had to do a quick count and I've still got 25. I bet you've got more!

I think I've got about as much grey as you do. I debate about growing it out but it doesn't seem like enough grey yet.
Your short hair, with the amount of grey you've got, looks good!

Machka - it must feel nice to have the flooring being put down.
I weigh the same as you.
Weโve batted around the idea of sleeping separately, we do a bit. Rodger does not sleep well, he usually goes to bed before me and wakes up long before me. We only share a bed for about 4 hours when heโs working days. In the winter we donโt at all.
I really miss that connection though.
Annie - hugs to you. Would your dad go visit your aunt and uncle while youโre out?
Lisa - Iโll check Sarah Milican out.
My practicum is going well. There are no students in this class on IEPโs so Iโm working with the whole class for the most part. There are 4 that Iโll be prodding a little more though.
Today the grades 5โs and 6โs had a character assembly, this occurs every Thursday. For some reason I had it in my head they were studying characters like Mickey Mouse, but itโs our character they are encouraging. Todayโs lesson was about honesty. This is led by the VP and gives the teachers prep time.
Rita - I learned about that cone last year when I was learning how to empty the tank from the camper we borrowed.
Hopefully itโs easily fixed.
Barbara - no schools in the summers, Iโm trying to come up with some ideas though.
I just loved Young Sheldon. Iโm actually thinking of watching Big Bang and Young Sheldon all over again. Iโm excited to watch Georgie and Mandyโs first Marriage this Fall.
Barbie - sorry about the dentist news.
I donโt have my wisdom teeth, but have all of my own teeth except one is a crown.
Iโm shocked at this because I never saw a dentist for about 20 years, Iโm terrified of them.
Pip - Iโm still colouring my hair every 6-8 weeks, Iโm not interested in going grey at all yet. I think you have a nice mix though.
Not a lot to say tonight, I sure am glad tomorrow is Friday. Iโm beat.

What about substituting in childcare centres?
I did that one year during the 1990s recession.
I started in early March, and only got the occasional day here and there at first ... but as summer approached, I started getting 1 and 2 weeks at a time when regular staff went on holidays. I was working between 3 places and by early June I was fully booked for the summer, right through to about the end of September.
Then in October, I started picking up hours in a bulk spice place as they started getting busy for winter, and divided my time between childcare centres and the spice place.
But at least if you're working in childcare centres, you're still working with children and getting experience.

Some time ago, I coloured a picture on the page before this one and it bled through to this picture (when it was not coloured) enough that I thought I couldn't salvage this picture. I figured all the bleed-through had pretty much ruined my chances of colouring something that didn't look all blotchy.
Then I found acrylic paint pens! Because I figured this picture was more or less a lost cause, I began to play with my acrylic paint pens ... and before I knew it ...
An interesting life lesson. We, or something we've done, or the way life has gone, might appear to be a lost cause ... but we can get out our acrylic paint pens and work with it to create something different that makes us smile.

My home test kits were showing only a small amount of leukocytes in the urine, and sometimes none, but I was stil, feeling some irritation, which was really giving me anxiety. So I got an appointment with the doctor this morning, and she thought there was something there, and prescribed antibiotics. (I was worried about the coming long weekend, with a bank holiday on Monday. No doctors open. ) Anyway, I'm now taking them. My brain is less anxious now. I couldn't think about anything else.
I also rang the hospital and paid for the operation.
Had a quick chat with G.
John is out at cricket. Trying to decide what to make for dinner, so we can both eat at different times. Might make a grain and chicken salad, with an extra potato salad for John. Nice warm day.

I'm pretty sure they won't do joint replacements here either if there is any infection anywhere in the body. In fact, they're not keen on doing most surgeries if there's an infection in the body somewhere.
But about UTIs and hip replacements:
Effect of urinary tract infection on the risk of prosthetic joint infection: A systematic review and meta-analysis
https://www.sciencedirect.com/science/article/abs/pii/S1479666X20300561
"Conclusion
This study identified UTI as being significantly associated with PJI after joint arthroplasty and PJI occurring via the haematogenous route from the genitourinary tract harbouring bacteria in UTI. Therefore, postponing surgery and even treating patients with known UTI preoperatively are recommended."

Good morning ladies!
Lanette and Barbara, good idea to hang out at the senior center. They weren't very forthcoming on the phone. They have a program for early dementia 10 to 2 a couple days a week. I don't know if I could get my dad to go or not, but that would cover time for me to grocery shop.
Pip that's a beautiful summer haircut! Should be much cooler.
Barbie yes we all hate the dentist, and at least half of us are anxious, though we may hide it well.
Rebecca and Machka, beautiful floors!
Tracey I do send my Dad over to my aunt and uncle occasionally. I wouldn't ask them to sit regularly, though. My aunt is struggling with pneumonia and she has so much on her plate already.
I'm thinking to get him a walking buddy for Thursday afternoon to cover my horseback riding. It will just take time to find someone. Plus I have to get over my resistance to dealing with
people. I particularly hate having strangers in the house while I'm gone.
Maybe he could go to the gym and work with a trainer. But trainers are expensive. And he would be tempted by the pool which isn't good because he can't handle the locker arrangement.
It will take a couple months to get him a diagnosis; his first appointment is July 2. That will open some doors.
I realized something last night too. He is never going to qualify for US Medicaid because of his pension on top of Social Security. So the Medicaid exemption for child caregivers means nothing. He would have to pay for a memory care home out of his personal assets, which at $8,000 a month means selling the house, where I live. So that option needs to be saved for the very end. I hope I can convince my sister.
I know I'm repeating myself, and worrying in circles. Thank you for listening to me sort this out. It helps to go through it.
Have a marvelous day! May you be happy, healthy, safe and free!

I am off to a good start, 4.4 lbs down in 4 days. Completed 3 workouts this week. The big challenge is a trip to Niagara Falls tomorrow and returning on Sunday. Thinking of swapping out potatoes and bread for more meat or veggies. So breakfast could be eggs and ham and dinner a nice steak with salad/veggies. There is definitely a lot of activity on this thread lol:)7

Machka - I like your life lesson from the coloring pages... I've learned a lot of them from quilting - like ripping out stitches and starting over is not a tragedy, and if it doesn't feel right, it's not right, so change it. That and the fact that working with fabric is just as forgiving as life itself... a little wiggle here and there, and you can make some things look like they never happened--only you know how much you had to patch it (or in your case cover it up with acrylic paint! ) to make it work. LOVE the floors. Just my style, and really make it all look good.
Heather - Sounds like, from Machka's research, that getting the antibiotic was a good thing, and glad your doctor agreed. Worth it for the peace of mind, if nothing else.
Annie - I worry in circles, too, and you really need something to take your mind off things, even for a little bit. Glad your sister is coming soon.
Tracey - I love Machka's idea of working in childcare centers for the summer session to make a few extra bucks - your presence might let them extend to slightly older children than they could otherwise, and you can work with kids all summer in a structured situation. Great experience.
Pip - I like your hair that way, but I get it, mine's not going gray the way I want it to. I've been really happy with this Feria dye - beware, though, it turns my hair quite brown to begin with, nearly back to my original very dark brown and then fades over the next six weeks to the blonde/gray that I've had for a few decades now:
I actually like it, because I like the dark brown, which is kind of a warm color, and I like what it fades to, so it works for me. Never actually looks like the picture though!
I have to trundle down to Home Depot and pick up a replacement hose reel I ordered for the one Corey bought earlier in the year. The Lowes' version he purchased was a piece of plastic junk from the start, and he will NOT return things, and I won't push. Worth the money to me to not have the wrangle with my hubby. The way I see it, it's mostly his pay that bought it anyway, and if he doesn't want to recover those hours of his hard work, it's his choice.
That said, it was definitely worth shopping around - I found a metal wall-mount reel for 60 bucks less than at Walmart, plus I get 10% veteran's discount at Home Depot. Well worth $5 worth of gas to go there and come back Wouldn't even have to pick it up if I was willing to wait a week for free delivery.
I'm not.
Anyway... eggs and pesto once more for breakfast, it seems to suit for the moment, still yummy. Lost 2 and a half pounds since yesterday, for no real discernible reason. No worries, I had gained that much since Monday anyway, so it just brought me back down to 155. Odd, though. Still trying to figure out what impact the Skyrizi is making in my symptoms. Incremental change, whether for better or worse is just so hard to see. Just trying not to stress over it one way or the other and live the life as I've been accustomed to it these last few years. If it gets better, great, just as long as it doesn't get worse.
Later, y'all,
Love,
Lisa in AR

I lost my wisdom teeth as a teen. I have the rest of my teeth. Two are capped but no root canal. I noticed since I have changed the way I eat my sinuses and the one capped tooth on the same side I had sinus issues no longer bothers me. I learned when I was researching a better diet for myself that tooth and gum disease is caused by bacteria that grows in an acidic environment. Sugar and too much starch creates this environment. I do try to rinse my mouth after eating with either plain water or a small amount of aloevera juice which is basic.
I brush my teeth like fine China as Rebecca taught me with a small amount of baking soda and tooth powder made of ground organic bone no fluoride or fluoride rinse. I am also using the mouth tape so I breathe through my nose at night.
Between the new diet and the new regime in the care of my teeth. I am noticing my teeth and gums appear healthier. Less staining and gums no more bleeding.
Learning more that the state of health of your mouth can have an effect on the rest of your health. There were years I did not go to a doctor but I always went to the dentist and my routine eye exams.
I do ask my hygienist about my breath too. She does notice what is called diabetic breath. If she notices it she recommends her patient go see their doctor. So far so good for me.
I am a firm believer in listening to your body and if I notice a problem starting to try the least invasive ways of correcting the problem first.
If I have to go to a more advanced way of dealing with it at least the healthier habits I have will hopefully give me a better outcome.3 -

Morning friends
The birds are singing outside and its going to be beautiful.. going to try and get some laundry done.1 -
Jackie - good job and great plan swapping the carbs for more meat and/or veggies. Yes, we are one busy group.
Annie - thinking about all of the challenges you are facing. Dad's increasing care. The potential of losing your home if he goes into assisted living. I could be wrong, but your sis might not only be concerned about your dad, but about you as well. A lot to consider, and it's overwhelming.
That early dementia program at the Senior Center sounds neat, maybe your sister could go along with you to find out more if you haven't been there already.
Also, another idea - Area Agency on Aging if you haven't visited them. There's probably one in your county. Their whole job is to provide resources. The one in our county has social workers and counselors that caregivers can talk to as well. Ours is funded with some federal $$ and grants if I remember correctly.
Lisa - that Feria hair color is impressive. Looks very good on you!
Pip- love your summer haircut. And your hair color! If you want gray I have plenty to share. I think you'd have liked the picture more if someone else would have taken it (different camera angle) and you could have had a chance to smile. Selfies can look like mug shots, or at least mine do when I take them. They all get deleted immediately.
Rita - You've been getting in some good exercise, wow! Nice of you to put that turtle back in the water.
Barbie - glad you like your dentist; I'm sure you'll be glad when everything is done. I still have 28 teeth anchored in my jaw, I've lost track of how many are crowned, I know all of my molars are. My wisdom teeth got yanked when I was 18.
Barbara - nice you'll be able to get back with the BB&B. Glad Tumble took you for a walk, lol. - I know, it used to tug on my heartstrings when Rosie felt left behind and cry when I'd take off to run an errand.
Diabetes Prevention Action Plan - I'm just babbling here so feel free to skip:Our "assignment" is to list one action plan that could help delay the onset of T2 diabetes, based on the class discussion last Monday. I've come up with 2.
1.) Get back to the gym. Even though I get plenty of exercise and activity working outside right now, getting back into the gym habit and doing some dedicated strength training is probably a good idea. Blink your eyes and it's winter again, right? The plan is stop there at least once a week before my early morning shopping. I remember James Clear's advice on getting back to the gym. Just show up if nothing else. Get used to swinging into the parking lot. Make it a habit and go from there.
2.) Drinking more water. I already drink a LOT of liquid during the day, mostly coffee and green tea. And get a few cups of water in addition. But I'll start tracking it to make sure I'm getting at least 4 cups or more of plain water each day. Recommendations vary on the need to chug extra water if already consuming plenty of liquid, most advise using urine color as a guide.
Make it a super day.
Lanette

Lisa - I was well aware that a UTI would scupper the operation. That's why I was so worried. They do a urine test the morning you go in.
My problem was that it was hard to tell if I had one or not. I had some leukocytes, but only a small amount, and sometimes none at all on the test. I was just aware that 'down there' was not comfortable all the time and it was preying on my mind. (No pain on peeing.) I am drinking a lot of water, so that may have obscured the results. Even the doctor wasn't sure when she tested, and I think she wouldn't have given me the antibiotics under normal circumstances. Of course, they will send it off to the labs, but she gave me my normal, wide-spectrum, Cefalexin.
I was very worried about the practice being closed for the bank holiday, and I'm extremely glad I went, and that she was sympathetic. I hope to feel better soon, and can think about other things!
I had a lovely long nap this afternoon!

Oooh Machka, I love your floors. Very beautiful stain!๐๐๐ผ
Margaret yes soft brush and small circles. I was so surprised the dentist said I was brushing too hard and that is why my guns were receding, exposing the roots a bit. I was always a firm believer that the most vigorous I brushed the better.
PipLove the haircut, and keep your natural color! Its beautiful too!

Dh loves using the acrylic paint pens when doing the detailing on the 3D printed things. A lot easier than using a paint brush and a LOT less clean up. We have several sets with different tip sizes which are really nice. Amazon has some great deals on them.
Pip- the main spot I have grey is a streak over my right eye. I am getting a little more grey through out but with my hair being light brown/dark blond naturally, it isn't showing up as much.
I would like a bit more grey/silver.
Dad always said, he didn't care what color it turned, as long as it didnt "turn loose"- He passed away at 83 yrs old with a FULL head of snow white hair.

Another thought about dental work. People who are terrified by the dentist or who have had bad experiences are quick to share their fears but people who find the process easy and non threatening rarely say anything. I just remembered that my walking friend has had many dental adventures and has never said more than that they occurred with no complaints other than it interfered with her schedule. When I had a root canal a few years ago the only downsides were that I don't like to sit still that long and I would have preferred to spend my money on something else.
