Trying to step back into the community

Hi everyone! I'm Andrew, and I've been on MFP since 2013ish. In 2016, I had a mild health scare at 306 lbs and, through walking, going to the gym, healthier food decisions, and with the help of MFP, I dropped to 186 and virtually fixed my health problem (which was an irregular heart beat and PACs). I was literally in the best shape of my life, and then in 2019, I started slipping.
Fast forward to 2024 and I'm back up to 296 lbs and feeling arguably worse than in 2016, but luckily my heart condition never came back. I'm 35, and I know it's only going to get harder as I get older, so I'm kind of desperate to get back on the right track now. I'm hoping that stepping back into the community will give me the motivation I need... I'm looking for friends who will help motivate and support while I'm working on this journey, and I try to return the favor.
Right now, I'm holding steady at 296, but I had just dropped to 291 with a free strength training workout from Mind Pump, but lost motivation and stopped training so I'm back up again. That said, I'm cognizant of working out, I've just been failing to lift any weights lately.
So that's my story. Hope to see you around!

You did it before, so you know it's possible. Your very words of repeatedly "lost motivation" are exactly why the most successful among us may get started on this path through the power of motivation, but we remain on the path due to discipline. That word can take lots of different forms, from daily phone alarm reminders to posting online after every workout to paying money for a gym membership and thus going to avoid wasting the money to having friends or loved ones badger you daily to ensure you are still on point. Could I leave MFP behind and be just fine with the lessons I've already learned from here? Probably, but daily posting helps keep always in the back of my mind to at least think about food and exercise, one part of my regular discipline keeping me in check. Hopefully it can work for you, also.
Incidentally, the presence or lack of weight lifting is likely NOT the culprit in losing or gaining weight. Managing food intake controls weight; lifting helps keep our bodies from cannibalizing our muscles while losing weight, ensures the weight lost is mostly fat.3 -
You’ve got this. Stay positive. I’m struggling too and just joined back. MFP and the these chats help to know you are not alone. As soon as I stop tracking the food I start slipping. I’m back to 232lbs again. I stopped mfp after I reached around 215. And now restarting. No excuse other than not making myself a priority. I’m back and for my 5ft 2in height have a goal of 140-150lbs. I’ll be super happy to reach 150 and anything below is a bonus. I’m 51 and really feeling the impact with my health. Here’s to restarting and success 😉2
