WOMEN AGES 50+ FOR JUNE 2024

Quiet day. Waitrose delivery. My frozen meatballs for dinner. That's the last of them.
My old microwave had a plate warmer button. I absolutely hate cold plates for serving. This new one doesn't. After extensive googling, I settled on some silicone warmers from Amazon. You put them on the plates and microwave. Two plates take 1 minute. They arrived today and work well.
We only use the microwave for plate warming, heating coffee with milk, and occasionally heating cooked food. Also thawing ice cream, and softening butter.
So, all good.
Recorded Maigret to watch tonight.
Allie - Sorry to hear your brother is under so much stress. I know your kind heart will worry.

Rori - I am thrilled hearing about your "friend with benefits". When I (barely) filled out that online dating thing, I put in 50 mile radius. More pictures came in this morning. Poor fellas. How sad to be judged on appearance right off the bat. I think my #1 requirement would be great sense of humor, positive attitude = makes me laugh. Jokes around and tells funny stories - I'd gladly reciprocate. No dour, sour outlook on life. My DH went through periods of moods like that throughout our marriage and I served my time putting up with it. But he did have a great silly sense of humor when he was feeling good and I miss that. Anyways, I'd be up for a "blind date" with the guy pre-vetted by good friends of mine. Thereby saving $$ on having to hire a private detective!
Annie - happy to hear your dad had a good time at the adult day care. That sure sounds ideal. What a nice break for you.
Pip - so sad about the squirrel. You are a sweetie for laying it to rest under a cool bush.
NEWS FLASH Chickens are descended from dinosaurs like Tyrannosaurus Rex:A couple days ago, Thelma snatched something from the leaf pile she was digging in. I thought it was a fat nightcrawler but she was having a hard time gulping it down. I got closer to take a look - it had little legs. She found a teeny skink (lizard). She eventually managed to swallow it. So she had a lizard in her gizzard. And this morning, Fairy was working on something under a tree. It was teeny and I think I could see little feathers on it. It must have been a baby bird that fell out of the nest. Down the hatch! Pterodactyls beware.
Rita - thank you for posting that 80/20 grocery list. I think the diabetes prevention program I'm on is a bit more stringent, but it's early days and we are still learning how to "build our plates" So this might just work out the same.
Speaking of building our plates, I picked up some plastic containers this morning that are divided into 1/2 - 1/4 - 1/4 segments. Good practice for calibrating portion size.
Allie - Sorry to hear about your brother.
I've had a vibration plate for a couple years. A Lifepro Waver Mini. Supposed to be good for improving balance and some studies have shown it improves bone density. Not sure, but it just might rev up metabolism too. I use it more in the winter when I can't get outside and walk. I like it. These things are HEAVY so you might want to have Dan set it in place for you. I put mine right behind my recliner so I can put my hands on the back of the chair to help with balance if I need it. Some folks put them next to a wall, counter, etc. I'm sure you'll find a good place. I use 15 minute pre-set programs that really go "high speed" but it's advisable to start out on the slow programs and work up. Let us know how you like it.
Nice breeze blowing, the remaining back yard should be dry enough to mow.
Hope you all are having a wonderful Wednesday!

Still not feeling well, didn’t go for an outside ride. Walked w/kirby and the kids and rode on the spin bike. Went pretty fast for not feeling 100%, I should feel like crap more often

Allie - Sorry about Sean, I hope it's not as bad you fear between him and Jean... try not to worry too much, dear heart, though I know you will. Is it your health insurance you need to check? Is there a possibility they won't continue paying for the Trulicity?
Weirdly restless, and have been all afternoon. The dang quilt is really beating me up - this is not a quilt pattern I will do again willingly! Plus Corey's 45 minutes late, trying not to worry. Hate to call him, as he could easily be under a vehicle working on it. I'm a worrywart, I admit it.
And... I walked away and saved at this point, couldn't sit still, and about 15 minutes later, he called, just a guy who broke a machine and didn't say anything until he came in five minutes before Corey was supposed to go home. It's that time of year, and the goobers abound in this job, bless'em. Job security. If they didn't break stuff, he wouldn't have a job.
Anyway... I've begun adding my paintings, quilts and other things I've made to an Instagram account that I've left to molder until now, so if you want to take a look at ones you've probably not seen, I'm loading older things at the moment, and then will get back to the current ones - https://www.instagram.com/powrlisah/ .
Later, y'all,

Allie – so sorry about Sean
Jess just called. She’s going to bring the kittens here Fri. And Vince will go to Startown (vet) and get the other two. He’s beyond ecstatic. I’m happy, but I wouldn’t say ecstatic. I guess we just view pets differently. I love them and would never in a million years hurt them, but to me, they are still a pet. Yes, they tug at your heartstrings, but they also give so much joy. I just don’t treat them like a child.

I’m so far behind I’m not taking notes but wanted to comment on a couple things.
Empathy - I tend to be affected by people’s moods and can adopt them myself quite easily.
I also tend to read a room and/or situation quite well.
Beth - I hope your mom gets into a place quickly. What great news on your implant.
Annie - how wonderful your dad enjoyed the seniors group.
Self serve fountain machines - most of the fast food places here have switched to the self-serve model. You buy a cup and get free refills for that visit. However, I’ve heard that some places, even stores are talking about getting rid of self-serve, one reason for the fountain machines is exactly what you’re saying people are doing, it’s supposed to be per visit not forever. I hope they do.
Did the doctor say what is wrong with your foot?
Allie - such a shame about your brother’s marriage and his drinking. Hope he kicks it fast.
Lisa - I started following your IG I should put some of my stuff on mine.
I was given the opportunity to end my practicum this Friday as I’ll have all of my hours in. However, I’ve taken the option of continuing through until next Friday.
I have found a couple of jobs I am going to apply to this weekend. They are admin/payroll again, but I can’t afford EI all summer and then poor wages again in the Fall. I’m hoping that over the next year the unions win some negotiations, the local school board hasn’t given a raise in 11 years. I don’t know how they get away with that.
Tomorrow is our 37th anniversary. I don’t know where the time has gone. Some years have been very difficult, but I think overall there have been more good times than bad and you know, he still makes me laugh and gives me butterflies.
I’ve been scrapbooking the last few evenings, and this weekend I’m going to make Freezie sleeves for the kids in the class I’m in. It’s a small class of only 17 so not a terribly large job.
I am going to put their names on them, some of them have very unique names so I’m sure they have trouble finding personalized items.

Happy anniversary, Tracey! 37 years is a LOT, and if he still gives you butterflies, you're doing better than more than a few! 👀😜2

Good morning. It’s a dull, but dry morning. I’m going to flower arranging after lunch. It’s the last session before recess.
Tracey: Happy 37th Anniversary. All relationships have rough and smooth patches 😝 It’s part of the human condition. Good luck on the job hunting.
Pip: Hope you feel better soon.

Good morning ladies!
I have a nasty cold today. I don't know how I can pick up dad at the senior center without exposing them. I guess I wear a mask and stay outside. I have been sneezing so hard I'm afraid I will crack a tooth.
Well, I've had my tea, and let the dog out, so now it's back to bed.
Have a great day! May you be happy, healthy, safe and free!

Pip and Annie ~ Hope you both feel better soon.
Tracey ~ Happy 37th! You are going to be a wonderful teacher for those students.
We are still going through a lot of doctor visits trying to get DH's health problems solved.

That's me trying to pack for our move!4 -
1 week until the shortest daylight hours of the year. Then the daylight hours start increasing!!
I'm tired of doing stuff in darkness. I don't mind the cool winter temperatures too much, but trying to move stuff into our house after work in blackness is difficult. The long dark drive there and back, trying to unload the van in the dark.
A little extra daylight will be very welcome!

Tracey ... Happy Anniversary!!

Tracey A Very Happy Anniversary for tomorrow!
I hope you can find something that will be a convenient, easy, extra supplement to your teaching assistant job, when you get one.
I didn't post this morning because I was feeling a bit low and had no energy. Last night, all my painkillers, and the supplements I have to take to tolerate them, all erupted at once, and my digestive system was in severe pain. I had an evening of misery and a short night. I was just out of energy this morning.
However, I had a nap after lunch, and I'm feeling more like myself. I even ventured up the stairs to the top floor, for the first time in two weeks! Came down on my hands and feet for safety, but it was nice to see it again. Looks like I will have to light another carpet moth bomb. Just a few moths, but good to catch it early.
I'm doing my physio exercises, but I've noticed I get out of breath really easily. Something to work on.
John collected my BP prescriptions this morning, when he went out for his Thursday fruit and veg shopping.
I was completely out of one, but all is well.
Tomorrow afternoon I have my wound inspection appointment at the hospital. It all feels good to me, and the bruising has disappeared. It's about 6 ins long. I imagine they will put something more temporary on it. My stitches are all dissolvable, so nothing to remove. John will drive me, and I will get an Uber back.
John is making Cauliflower Cheese for dinner. Yum!
Then I am watching recordings of Long Lost Family - Born Without Trace, about foundlings. They trace relatives through their DNA. Amazing stories. I really don't understand why John doesn't want to know anything about his father's family, but he is adamant. I find genetic connection fascinating and it is a big part of my next book.
Love to all, Heather UK xxxxxxxx6 -
I had ham, beans, potato salad made with oil, and a small plop of mashed potatoes. Too many carbs, but what DH made yesterday. Supper was just a handful of mixed nuts and a once of cheddar cheese. I also had 1/10 of a Keto brick (100 calories but added fat and protien I was missing) only 49 calories over.
Breakfast today was the same: Corn Chex, Almond milk, 1/2 banana, and TB almond butter for protein.

Today is Kitchen Klutz Day!! Who hasn’t?? Lol

Tracey - Happy Anniversary from me as well. Hope you can find satisfying employment when you are ready, wherever you end up. You had a nice break from the stressful place you worked before and now have many new skills under your belt.
Hope everyone with the crud (Annie, Pip, Ginny et al) is feeling better. Allergy sufferers, you too. I've read pollen is the worst first thing in the morning so didn't hit the road for my sunrise ten minutes.
Carol - big hugs heading your way. Repeated doctor visits dealing with your husband's illness have to be wearing.
Heather - glad to hear of your continuing improvement.
Lunch with M today, looking forward to it. The little restaurant we go to has started serving breakfast and is now open an hour or two earlier than it had been. M and I used to be the first ones in the door at 10 for an early lunch so we had our pick of seating. Hope it's not too crowded and noisy and we can find a spot. The food is the absolute best so don't want to find a new eating place.
Have a super day, ladies.
