MFP Weekly Check-in June 24, 2024
Debbie in Napa Valley, CA - 148.9 this morning. Need to get back to tracking my food- been very lax the past two weeks.
Rita in Roswell, NM - Up .3 of a pound. Probably water as the heat is back and I’m drinking a lot more water. At any rate, I’m not worried about .3 of a pound! Pre-diabetes program is re-training me how to eat since I can’t do high protein anymore.
Evelyn on Vancouver Island - It’s a beautiful day here on the island! Weight has been all over the map the last few weeks, but I am happy to report a .2 lb loss. Have started a new work out regime, well added a few things to the old one. Hopefully will shake things up and get back on track!
Barbara on the Southern Oregon Coast - (as well as or) Better than yesterday:
6/17-6/23 PT-Knees 4 of 7. PT-Shoulder 5 of 7, Steps 4 of 7, Fuel better: CI/CO 2 of 7, Sugar 6 of 7 yay! Seems I can do EITHER PT OR steps, CI<CO OR sugar. Gotta be thankful for half measures at least
Lanette SW WA – weight still holding steady in desired range. Looking forward to new strength training tips at today’s diabetes prevention class and will mention "Strong Women Stay Young" if it's not included in the discussion.

Since I can’t do laundry, or take a shower, spent some time catching up
Rebecca could you record some of your songs on your phone and share?
Allie Yikes indeed! Amazed you were able to keep from whoopsing on the carpet.
Fingers X’d your doc can give you some relief.
Carol “…I spend too much time playing games on the PC and watching tv.” This has been me lately too. And I don’t have the excuse of needing to relieve stress of DH’s health issues like you do. ((hugs)). must be a serious break to keep your granddaughter from camp?
Ginny how can an eye exam be virtual?
Beth star cochlear patient? Huzzah!!! ((hugs)) and [prayers] for your mom’s situation.
Margaret DrewB’s heart murmur and anemia gone? Such validation! Have you tried diatomaceous earth as an insect preventative? Puffing it into the cracks in our kitchen drove away the ants, and into the exterior cracks works (somewhat) against the spiders. “Since joining this group I have learned the reasons I struggle with weight is complex. There are other factors other than diet that contribute positively to becoming healthy. + Truth! Very interesting about adrenal fatigue and cortisol resistance. Lived that way for decades, witness my belly. Time for me to get serious about reducing sugar and walking after eating.
Rosemarie so good to see you posting. Enjoying your green back yard sounds just right. Content is a blessing.
Lisa “. . .think it's a sort of vicious cycle--exercise helps me keep my energy levels up, but when I'm tired I don't exercise, so my energy levels never get that boost.. . . The two medical appointments threw me off my usual schedule as well, as they drive a tremendous amount of fatigue for me. I need to push through and do it anyway, but that's harder than it sounds.” Amen, sister, and the past two weeks I haven’t been able to push through. Lisa have you tried Ginny’s crockpot balsamic chicken recipe? The breasts come out tender and juicy. I am so in awe of your energy and yard accomplishments. What is it with the daddy longlegs this year. One dropped on to me in the house while I was sitting in my blue recliner. I lept up (as well as one can from a reclined position) and jumped around shrieking until Joe swept down my nightie with a towel, then flapped it over the recliner (not sure what that was supposed to do). My shrieks scared Shadow so badly she hid in the garage and wouldn’t come out until I could speak calmly to her. I didn’t return to that chair all day (probably a good thing.) Yah about the new phone, not the kind of hot pants you want for Corey. . . Belated happy birthday to him.
Heather Selling John on replacing bathroom carpet with vinyl on grounds of health and safety, brilliant and true! dancing queen? Bravissima! And so deserving of dark chocolate with hazelnuts My pizza would be a Nutsman with mascarpone, without the capers and olives. Oh no, just read about Johnny’s COVID-19 and the spanner in your plans with friends and for DEXA scan. Hugs for your both. Had to google tenderstem broccoli, aha! Broccolini.
Vicki heard a news snippet about Oregon Nurse Managers going to a 4 day work week and thought of the 3 of you covering 24/7. What will it take to wake up your management?
Kylia great news about Cali and could your vet please move to the Oregon coast? Pretty please??? Hope the nose cushion CPap eases your exhaustion.
Lanette what you said “endured the politics, people's hurt feelings, listening to them sniping behind each other's backs, the unwarranted criticism of those who were going the extra mile. Childish.” about people in groups, even volunteers. The more I see of most people, the better I like my dogs. “Thelmasaurus rex” I the plan for Debbie’s mom’s roommate and MIL. Could we send Sue’s TTFH to stir the pot? Covid is making the rounds here too. Went with friends to see other friends in a play, actress gave us all hugs, then texted 3 days later to advise she’d tested positive. Seems it was going around the cast but no one knew it before opening night. Envious of your teensy tomatoes. The two I bought at the master gardeners’ sale haven’t grown noticeably. Hope Mt. St. Helens settles down without dusting you and the hens.
Machka “listening to Hitchcock soundtracks”? I would not find them calming
vegemite? [likewise Heather’s Johnny’s Lancashire hotpot. Yuck.] But oh your new home. Such calming colors and beautiful floors. Well done!
VERY belated welcome back @CSSJ09 CJ! Congrats for slightly less weight than a few years ago. Brava! Ditto your request to Heather for pics of her wild garden.
Rebecca however did you pit the cherries with a chopstick?
Barbie thank you for sharing what started you walking, and “My energy and enthusiasm for life grow all the time. “ kept you at it. Inspiring! the pic of Annie relaxing. ((hugs)) to Jake and hope the chemo has no uncomfortable side effects.
Rita so many people think signs like “Keep out” and “Employees Only” aren’t for them. SMH. So very sorry to hear of the fires with fatalities then floods then enough hail to play. Hope your campground is safe.
Welcome back Tina and sorry to hear Covid got you.
Flea I blew right past your son’s Germany trip, would you tell us more about GAPP?
Tracey love the freezie sleeve gifts, and the principal validating your action. have you discussed your financial needs with your school’s job counselors? I pray there is a way you can use your training and still make enough $$ to survive. You have such a gift for this work. ((hugs))
Whooshing you an abundance of reliable part time options to supplement the EA hours. ((hugs))
Debbie could those kittens be any cuter?
Annie Is there any way you can get in to a doc to check that painful cough?
Pip both Chispa and Lucy fit in the buggy at the same time?
Only through pg 37 but I’ve been sitting too long.
Later, lighter, lovelies!

Yeah, no... just Excel. I still love Excel, even four years retired. Most people have no idea what it can do visually, and for this tidy little heart, it's very satisfying. I just turn the rows and columns into electronic graph paper by making each cell a square, and then use the cell border functions to outline as necessary. That lets me draw things like this exactly to scale, so that I can estimate drywall and lumber and flooring needs, as well. Just a big nerd... 🤓

Hello, everyone; it has been a while since I posted. June has gone by fast. I have eaten well, but my activity was low. A broken foot is complex, but the pain isn't bad. So we are graduating to an Orthotic for my shoe. They did a mold of my foot so I will be exercising in the pool soon. I didn't weigh in last week because it was tough when my husband was in town. I will weigh in tomorrow and measure. My son has been ill too. It is hard to manage his illness from Mississippi to someone in New York. He has always wanted his mom when he was sick. I called his provider while he was waiting to figure out what he needed. I knew he would forget to tell them that he had asthma. So, hopefully, he will be on the mend now. I told my husband that our parenting is still needed. I need to see my mom. We went there at the wrong time.
I hope you all are doing well. @Matchka9, I love your picture. Do you code for a living? Do you live in Alaska? You are discussing the dark months; that is why I ask. @cityjaneLondon, Wow, you are going through it. Are you on muscle relaxers along with pain management? I hope you heal fast. I am so sorry for your discomfort.
Beth, I used A Place for Mom. I am happy with the place, but it is hard because it was cheaper when I provided her medications. Now, I have to do it through Service Drugs, a pharmacy that offers her meds sealed. So we went from $100.00 every three months to $150.00 plus monthly. I have to provide her with incontinent supplies. My mom didn't have that problem when living with me. So, I set up a monthly delivery with Amazon to the home. I recently got a message on the 10th she was out. I had to call and ask how when Amazon just delivered a pack of 44 on June 5th. I know she does not use those 44 pull-ups in 5 days. I have donated smaller incontinent supplies to the unit. I asked if she was sharing with others. @LisaInArkansas, I hope all is well with you. I thought about you when they were talking about a dangerous man who was carjacking and killing people. I'm glad they caught him. Then there was a gunman just shooting 100 rounds at the Mad Butcher? I just prayed that you and your family were safe. No paintings this June? @Anniesquats100, I hope all is well with your dad and plans for the future. Well, I'd better go now. Take care everyone.
Monique or Mississippi Mo7 -
Michele-sorry to hear about your friend. I think it is good she has a chance to say the goodbyes she wants to.
Pip-we have rescued several turtles over the years.
Heather-glad you got to see the girls and that you and John are on the mend.
Barbara-at least the water issues doesn't sound overly expensive. For virtual eye exams they have a tech run a couple of tests. They have a really big tv screen and a couple of cameras to look at things. Rather interesting but I think I prefer the old fashioned way.
Vicki-we hold our breath with every new hire.
Tracey-I agree-certain necessary things shouldn't be so hard-sleep and regular trips to the potty should not be too much to ask!
RitaI never knew there are so many special recognition days.
Annie-may try giving your dad a task or two each day. Can he sort a drawer or something? Polish silverware? Dust?
Tina-I guess I sort of noticed the departure of the newsfeed but since I didn't use it much it doesn't bother me.
Lanette-glad your back is feeling better.
Lisa-glad your trip for tests went well. And excel is pretty awesome and they keep adding improvements.
So at work today I went to another group (they had asked me to sit in on interviews). Turns out it is scheduled for tomorrow. However, it really worked out-I told the person coordinating that I had known one of the candidates since she was very young. While I think I could be objective, I needed to disclose. So no harm, no foul. Had good discussion on how we can coordinate on other things.
Need to get trash out to curb. Was thinking about walking outside but it is still over 8-will do some laps inside the house (did my stretches, etc., this am)
Take care all,
Ginny in Ohio

Did my good deed for the day; saved a turtle. Found it on the shoulder of the road as I was riding home. Turned back and saw it was still alive. Put it in my jersey and rode back with one hand and holding it with the other. Rode back about little over 1/2mile back to lost lake and gave it to a guy so he could put it by the water.
Putting it in your jersey pocket was brave given that they do tend to "gush" when you pick them up!2 -

I do something very similar with PowerPoint. PowerPoint has capabilities that most people never tap into. IMO it's one of the more under-used parts of the MS Office package.
I've done up the rooms in our new house, complete with furniture to determine what will go where.
I've also used Excel in similar ways as you have.

Sang two solos at Church yesterday. Make me a Channel of Your Peace and The Lord is my Shepherd sang it with a healing heart. The Church is The Grove of Woodbury website https://www.thegrovemn.church/#gsc.tab=0. If click on highlighted website it takes you to website, Scroll down slightly click on Worship Online, once there scroll to where it says The Grove and click on words The Grove . Scroll to the bottom click on the traditional workship at 9. about 25 min in for Channel of Your Peace and after the message about 45 minutes in for Shepherd. You do not have to subscribe...I just hit cancel when that popped up. It will be on youtube and Facebook and might be easier than going through the church's website.5

Yesterday ... trying to match and link incomplete and dirty data all day at work.
The headache started up late morning ... Migraine.
Still did groceries in the evening (online) and measured furniture. We're moving most of it ourselves but we're hoping to have removalists do the big stuff so I needed to organise quotes.
With my headache, it was like trying to see through a thick fog.
Thankfully I had a good night's sleep and I have a Cultural Awareness seminar all day today. Hopefully it will be a nice break from dirty data and house stuff.

Tina – where do you log? Lose It? Cronometer?
Go pip!!!
Kylia – everyone says that when you get a Cpap you get a good night’s sleep. Honestly, I didn’t notice a difference. Maybe it was because I only have mild sleep apnea. But then again...Vince has severe apnea and he doesn’t notice a difference. Guess everyone is different. Let us know how it works for you
Monique – nice to see you again
Thank you, everyone, for your expressions of sympathy about my friend. I just can’t help thinking of all the things we’ve been thru. High School, cars, marriage, children, her moving to a different country...the list goes on and on. I’m happy that she’s accepted this. I can’t imagine taking a spouse someplace knowing that they’re going to die there.

Michele - thank you for telling us about your friend. If I could find the teleporter I'd pick you up and we'd scoot over there so you could give her a big hug.
I just remembered I had a dear friend, Glenda, who lived in Texas. She had cancer and many different types of treatments and we'd lose touch for periods of time due to her illness, but when she felt good she'd call and fill me in and was her normal jolly optimistic self. I'll never forget her last call, it was a little different and it was hard for her to breathe, but she was more serious. I didn't know it at the time, but she was saying her final good-bye... and as the conversation came to a close, she just said "Aw h*ll Scap (her nickname for me) I just wanted to tell you I love you." She died a few days after that. I didn't know she was in such critical condition, she never complained. My DH liked her a lot and when he passed, I thought to myself that he and Glenda are off having fun now and maybe getting into some trouble with tilted halos. I think of her often and I'm sure you will do the same with your friend. We have great memories here of two irreplaceable good people. I'll share the box of tissues with you.
Monique - crossing fingers the orthotic does the trick. Thank you for filling us in on your busy life. Hope the visit with your husband was great, and that your son recovers quickly. Do you have an anticipated back-to-work date once your medical leave is over?
Had the diabetes prevention zoom class this afternoon, our "assignment" is to get more strength training type exercise. So I'm getting back doing some of the Strong Women Stay Young exercises. In reading more about this SI joint problem, many of the leg exercises in SWSY also help strengthen the lower back muscles, so there's good incentive right there.
The coach said she'd get our calorie target and macros sent out tomorrow. Can't wait to see what she comes up with.
Have a great evening ladies!

I just got a 4lb bag of the diatomaceous Earth this afternoon. Tomorrow I will be puffing it around the catio, in the cat beds and on the carpet for the fleas. The cute little kittens brought them in and they are bad now. Kittens have had two baths but still scratching. Luckily they don't mind their baths and are small enough I can hold with one hand while rubbing the flea shampoo with the other.
Hope to find a home for at least two of them. Dh is talking about just keeping them. We do NOT need three more cats in the house. I am ready for them to go to new homes and not have a litter box in the living room in their playpen-this is the room I spend most of my time in. I clean it twice a day but would rather it not be in here at all plus the playpen is taking up too much room. LOTS of toys for them taking up more room.

I will try to record the next time I get on a piano. I don't think my tablet here records for very long though. I don't have a cell phone. No worries I will play fast!😂
Ok you take the chop stick and poke it thru where the stem grows and it pushes the pit out the backside. Sometimes you have to reposition the chopstick, but you will get a system going! Then I just sliced them. It was fun!

Whoops!
"A major American magazine has mistaken Tasmania for Africa, accidentally referring to Cradle Mountain as being in Tanzania in an online article.
People Magazine were covering the story of Bindi Irwin and her family’s recent visit to the snow at Cradle Mountain when they mistook the popular tourist destination for East Africa."0 -
Hot, sunny day here. Mini heatwave.
I went out to the deli round the corner at 9 am, and it was already blazing. Shade was cooler. Picked up a few bits, just because I could. I just had my stick. Nice to edge back into normal life.
I'm also trying to climb the stairs some of the time with alternate legs. Difficult, but I use the banister for support.
Looking forward to seeing the kids today. I will Uber it over. John doesn't mind walking in the heat, but I hope Bea has water.
P has gone home because her husband is due back from Gibraltar for her cataract ops. G and B are getting the bus up to Devil's Dy.ke, to go for a walk. It used to be an old haunt when we were schoolgirls. B has a flight in the early evening.
So pleased I could see them, but glad I wasn't involved in all the nonsense last night about cocktails and where to eat. I am allergic to group decisions. Just meeting for one lunch was perfect for me. When we do get together I prefer to stay separately in a hotel, and I usually stay for a shorter time.
Nice to see you, Monique.

I'm essentially a data analyst so I do a lot of SQL coding.
I live in the smallest, most southern state in Australia ... Tasmania! It's winter here, and the day with the shortest daylight hours just past. Slowly but surely the daylight hours are increasing.

Monique - Glad to see you pop up, I was afraid we'd lost you!
Heather - Love John's limerick, he's got that thing I find most attractive in any man - a sense of humor! Enjoy your time with the grands today, I know you've missed it.
Machka - Just a tiny bit of difference between Tanzania and Tasmania, besides that one little letter and a lot of geography...
I was up after only about four hours sleep, but I napped out for two hours yesterday afternoon, so not a surprise. Yanked myself out of bed this morning when I found myself thinking that I hadn't heard from my oldest niece since I sent her the quilt I made for her a year and a half ago, and wondering if she hated me now because I made a mistake in that quilt that I didn't even remember making. Very much 3 a.m. thinking, and I do know better - I cycle out sometimes at night, and the only way to stop is just to get up and interrupt the silliness.
Got a few messes cleaned up on my computer, and back to working correctly, and got my brain to stop being stupid, which is always helpful. Waved Corey off to work at his usual 5:30 a.m., and then got the meat I picked up yesterday separated and vacuum bagged and in the freezer. Starting on my second cup of coffee, which I don't ordinarily drink more than one.
Dawn is breaking, still a half hour nearly until sunrise - won't go out until I can see well enough to keep from tripping over any snakies🐍 that might be enjoying the warm temperatures and mouse-hunting at this time of day 🐭🪤. Still not fond of anything with more than four legs or less than two... And not terribly fond of most of the two-leggers! Apparently I've finally made it to "cranky old bat stage." I'm OK with it. 👵🏼😜😁👀
Will get a little more reading in, and then get the garden and the flower beds watered. Planted sunflowers 🌻🌻 last weekend, as the ground under the bird feeders is sprouting them like crazy from the dropped seeds, so obviously they'll grow here. Need to get them some water, too... no rain in the forecast for at least two weeks, 💦 so our water bill is going to be going up just to keep a few things alive and growing... If it doesn't rain in those two weeks, we'll probably be under a hose ban again.
Ah well - that's life in the country, where rain is almost always a good thing.
Later, y'all,
Love,
Lisa

Margaret DrewB’s heart murmur and anemia gone? Such validation! Have you tried diatomaceous earth as an insect preventative? Puffing it into the cracks in our kitchen drove away the ants, and into the exterior cracks works (somewhat) against the spiders. EA hours. ((hugs))
Debbie could those kittens be any cuter?
Later, lighter, lovelies!

Debbie
Move the playpen, litterbox and toys into your DH's room. Problem moved to his area .

Hi, everyone! I hope you don’t mind if I tag along. I’m 47 in July but definitely have the metabolism of a 99-year-old woman already. :-) Looking forward to getting to know y’all!
