Dinner yesterday, ground Elk with bbq (home made, no sugar) sauce. (not sure how DH cooked it, but it tasted really good. Not gamey at all. Tasked like lean burger!) topped with cheddar, fried onions, peppers, mushrooms, I put on the side, Tomatoes from our garden tossed with olives and a bit of DH’s Italian dressing. A slice of honey wheat bread.
Snack was a cup of cantaloupe with 1 apricot and 5 macadamia nuts, supper was 2 celery stick with 1.5 TB of organic fresh ground peanut butter. And a Lindy’s Italian ice for dessert. And a handful of grapes.
I had 34 calories left after walks and leg exercises. For me, sticking with fruits rather than sweets works better. The dinner I always try to match the “MyFoodPlate” guidelines. Breakfast today was cream of rice cereal with almond milk, butter, and almond butter, 1/2 banana. 341 calories. Higher than I’d like, but all I have for breakfast. I may 1/2 the cereal tomorrow. To many carbs in this one.
I checked how I’m doing with macros and found I’m higher on fats than either protein or carbs. But that works for carb and diabetes control. Should work for my kidneys too and is working for my colitis. I think I got this! 😊

I managed the walk to and from the Co op, plus a little trundle around the small store. I could have done with a sit down, but they didn't have a chair, even though I asked. I found a pallet of boxes outside and rested on that.
All added up, it was just under half a mile. I took one crutch, more to signify that I might need help than through need. My hip was fine, but I do get backache after a while. I imagine it is doing more work than usual, holding things together. It also.protests when I do housework.
Just about to start roasting the chicken and cooking the asparagus. The beans are thawed. The potatoes are cooked. I think I will also add a few jarred artichokes. I will concoct a small pot of garlic mayo, aioli, to go with the warm salad.

Going to take Alfie for a walk, then will go feed Ginger and get her out later and go to a birthday party for a friend who will be 95 tomorrow.4

Margaret - I really enjoy reading about what you are discovering about your own health and strategies for improvement. You are doing so well and I've been picking up a few tips from you. Thank you.
Lisa - impressive herb haul! And look at those tomatoes... I'm envious. I'm proud that I haven't killed that basil yet sitting in my kitchen window.
My project this week - Bay laurel starts. My current bush is in a too small container, needs to go bye-bye and it's best just to start over. In past years I've been successful with cuttings, let's see if my luck holds. I might do a couple more - all I need is one.
By the way, I'm rarely on FB these days other than to scroll through and get the weather report and local news happenings, obituaries. I do pop in to "friends" pages but not very often. Nothing personal, just a time factor.
Rita - thanks again for posting your stats and yummy meal. I definitely think healthy fats keep our appetites under control. And by the way, glad to hear your DH is being such an attentive cook - I wonder if your spell a couple weeks ago didn't spark a new interest for him.
Received the info for Monday's class from Diabetes Educator Melanie yesterday. Topic is using calories burned in exercise to help with weight loss and eating additional calories without going overboard to still lose weight. As MFP will calculate. Perhaps she'll build on that with her decision, in my case, to aim for 1500 calories per day which is too few for me, in my opinion, considering I don't have much weight to lose. If I get into "starving" mode from too few calories and too little fat & fiber, the overeating window opens. Wide. It will be interesting to see what she comes up with.
Machka - I have a hunch if my A1C continues to rise, and/or I start getting T2 symptoms, Dr. Lisa will order a glucose tolerance test. I've kind of been doing my own - checking blood sugar 1 1/2 to 2 hours after a meal with carbs several times per week. I generally vary from 110-130, which is good from what the blood sugar testing gizmo insert says.
I think I'd go for a continuous glucose monitor if it came to that. Where I can get a better feel for what foods are triggers. I've read that in some people, potatoes don't make much difference where in others, glucose goes sky high. We are all different. I don't think the standard glucose tolerance test picks up these variables.
If I eventually go that route, I'll need a smarter smart phone. My 5 year old one is starting to fail with some of the apps. It's only 3G and now 5G seems to be the norm. As long as I can call and text, I'm holding off though until I have time to really shop. I bought a new 7" Fire tablet which is light and fits in my purse and should be able to hook up to Walmart and Starbucks parking lot wi-fi so I can check email and Messaging the rare times I need them when I'm in town.

I love that list! I am all those things. My eldest sister could not fathom that I wear clothes just to wear them, that I couldn't care less about fashion. If its clean, comfortable I am fine. She equated my feelings to not caring about myself, which I totally do. It was a frustrating conversation.🙄😂

Sue in WA - what variety tomatoes did you plant? All of mine finally have little ones, and the Glacier has quite a few which are really putting on size. First year for these for me, it will be interesting to see when they ripen and the flavor. My Sungold plant appears to be struggling. Love the flavor but at my house they all seem to come on at once then crack when the weather turns cooler. I placed an order with Totally Tomatoes and have seed for next year - a couple varieties of container type Romas and cherry.
Make it a fabulous day.

Sungold are sweet but they do tend to pop when you pick them. I have a few planted around(they came up volunteer) plus one I planted from a volunteer from moms. Most of my tomatoes are doing ok- did find some tomatoes, not quite the size of a golf ball when I was weeding. Some plants are doing great while others are struggling to just survive-all were planted in the same soil at the same time. My TinyTim are seriously still 2 INCHES tall- they are in big pots in the front yard and they haven't grown in months. The new one I am curious to see is Black Truffle. They took a while to take off but they are huge plants now. I have at least 15 kinds of tomatoes this year.
Checked my cucumbers- a few are about an inch long- Need to get them trellised up.
Lots to get done today. Went out and picked a quart of raspberries to take to mom's. Have a sink full of dishes to do then start cooking. DH picked up shrimp and lobster tails(both on great sale at Safeway- $6 for 2lb bag of shrimp and $5 for two lobster tails. Originally it was for me to take to mom's for our dinner tomorrow night for a late birthday dinner. Then he asked if I had time, to cook a couple of the lobster tails for his mom then asked son's girlfriend if her and son would like some for their dinner tonight. SO- going to cook two bags of shrimp and 3 packs of lobster tails this afternoon. Cut them up to add to pasta. They can cook their own pasta I think.
I need to also pack and do last minute watering beings I will be gone all weeeknd.
Aqua zumba tonight then home for a quick change and load up the car for the drive to mom's- should take an hour and fifteen minutes to get there- no traffic at that time of night- get up there by 9:30
Up at 4am tomorrow for food program at the church.
I have a friend from high school that I haven't seen in over 40 yrs coming out to have dinner with mom and I- surprise for mom and she is bringing home made ice cream
I will come home some time on Sunday- playing that by ear.

My herbs did well last summer. This year they all burned. Too hot too fast. I think I will look for some sort of sun shade for them next year, or have DH build me a planter that can be moved and kept in partial to full shade here. I have basil growing in a pot in indirect sun and is doing very well. Going to buy some pine nuts next pay day and make pesto. You all have inspired me there! I have enough dried Italian herbs from last year to last but not parsley. My parsley didn’t do well at all this year and have gone to seed or dried up. I planted smaller early girl tomato plants this year and got some tomatoes already, but small and only a few. There are more ‘baby’ tomatoes but with the heat, I’m not sure they will do much. My peppers, I have 2 pepper plants and one produced 4 peppers that got soft and rotted before ripening. This plant is full of flowers again. The other plant has 3 small orange peppers on it. I need to pick those. I had one orphan potato plant that came up with the snow peas (they did well) and sprang off runner potato plants. I dug up the potato on the ‘mother’ plant and got enough for 1 meal out of that plant but have 2 more small potato plants growing from the runners. I will let them go and hope they produce too. I had planted beets, which started coming up but burned from the heat. In the fall I will try planting more snow peas and the beats. They should do better in the cooler weather. I have onion tops growing, a full pot of them. These are doing very well! At least one crop is coming up nicely. My mums are budding and getting ready for the early summer bloom, and what I thought was passion flower, were daisies that came up. They are doing well flowering. They will come back next year and spread in the bucket, like my mums did.
All in all, pretty disappointed in my garden this year, but still caring for it and taking note of what I need to do different next year (if we are still here!) We are not planning on leaving the park, but must be prepared for anything. If we do leave, of course the planting buckets will stay. We don’t have the room to take them with us. I’ll just start again! Unless I get my herb garden box, from DH that is! LOL
RVRita in Roswell
I use walnuts or almonds in my pesto beings pine nuts are so expensive. With all the other strong flavors(LOTS of garlic and the basil) it doesn't change the flavor a lot- just an option. Almonds give it a bit more texture

Thanks for the reminder- I need to pick some bay/laurel leaves off the trees at moms. We have TONS of them at the edge of the property plus one right near the house.
Haha- I am on Facebook WAY too much- Need to work on that.
With the exception of zumba, Facebook and MFP are the only real interaction I have with people for the most part- I do have a few friends, including former hubby that I text but only like 3 people including him

Too long, not inflicting that on y'all, but gastro APRN was reasonably happy, and unfortunately, a whole lot of tests being ordered, and some referrals to eye and skin docs, due diligence with the Skyrizi, apparently. We'll see if and how all that flies with the VA. Ah well.
Stinker of a headache coming on, but back home in the cool already. Corey should be headed home soon, and a hug will be very welcome by then. *sigh* I really hate the medico-palooza by the end of the long days.
A good night's sleep will be helpful. No time for a nap today, so I'm just a big, ol' cranky baby at this point.🐣

Lisa - glad all that medical stuff is done for today. Sorry more tests coming up, wearisome but necessary I reckon. Hope your headache passes. I'm sure a Corey hug will help.
Rita - sorry your container garden isn't doing well this year. You are normally the super star. After struggling for years with draping shade cloth over tomatoes in the big raised bed, this time I put the containers (5 gallon buckets) near the house along the chain link where they only get about 8 hours of sun before the shade hits them. No all day broiler like before. The shade cloth was a PITA since we get zesty afternoon winds that kept me busy keeping it anchored down.
Debbie - I'm envious of the wild Bay Laurel. We've tried planting some of my starts in the soil at this place and they just don't make it. They do in large containers however. I don't use a lot, but it's nice to have them handy. Very expensive in the store. Have a good time at your mom's and enjoy dinner with your friend.
Here are the tomato seeds I stocked up for next year:
Renee's Garden: Tasmanian Chocolate Heirloom Container & Super Bush Container
Totally Tomatoes: Little Napoli Hybrid (I have been planting one called Little Sicily they don't carry anymore, the plant is very sturdy and stays small. Fruit doesn't split!) I'm hoping the Little Napoli is similar. Edible Potted Red Velvet Hybrid, Celano Hybrid, Fantastico Hybrid (a mini plum).
I have some old Principe Borghese seeds - this plant must be indeterminate since it gets quite large but the late summer cherry tomatoes don't seem to crack and store well. Didn't plant any this year, but hope to get some going next year. I can attach them to the fence and not have to dink around with tomato cages. Another PITA, lol. And I'm not talking about bread!
Got my big mow done this morning. I like mowing just fine if the weather is nice like today. It's not so much the mowing tho as much as how nice it looks for a couple days before the dandelions get wild again. Kind of like doing dishes. I'm not a fan of that, but love the feeling of satisfaction seeing them in the drainer with the stovetop and oven wiped down.
Enough chatter.

Two of the tomatoes I am very anxious to get some tomatoes off of are ones that my dad saved seeds from for years. The one is a very large dark pink tomato- Holmes Mexican. The other one we don't know the real name of it. Dad got the seeds from his friend who's last name was Bertoli- his great grandfather brought the seeds years before with him from Italy when he immigrated to US. So, we call them Bertoli. A meaty one like a Roma but bigger.
I have a red velvet that my friend gave me- have never tried it .

Worked and then had the soup kitchen today.
Allie – that’s terrible
Remember I told you that we’re going out to dinner for a friend’s birthday tomorrow? Well, I got him a cat bobblehead. Not real expensive, but really the only one I could get that would be delivered today. Tonight I’ll probably take a walk down to the dollar store to get a card. Vince said “I wouldn’t have gotten that”. Too bad. “Well, having it delivered on Sat. would have been OK” “That’s IF it is delivered” Really, it’s not the gift, it’s more the thought
Tracey – congratulations many times over. So proud of you
Yesterday when we gave the kitties expanded use of the house (2 bedrooms and a bath), I found the sheets of PT exercises that Vince was given that he hasn’t used in a LOOOONNNNNGGGG time. Not that that’s anything unexpected. For some reason, he said to me “I want to keep them”. For what? Oh, he has some edema in his leg and he read on the internet that exercise helps. So suddenly he’s using the exercise bike. Really what you need to do is get your leg above your heart and using the exercise bike doesn’t do that. But who am I???? Certainly not Dr. Google, that’s for sure
Took two of the kitties (Fred and Barney) to the vet. They each weigh 2.3 lbs. Chewy and Yoda go next week
Annie – I’m so happy for you that you found a way to get back to your horseback riding
Well, I did my good deed for the day. I walked down to Dollar Tree to get the birthday card, and outside the store I found a wallet. The guy came in the store and I returned it to him.
Off to take a shower because I got sweaty on my walk

Thank you Ladies for your support! It means the world to me.
Love all the garden talk I never even got flowers/hanging baskets this year. No time.

Healing thoughts!

Heather - you’re going to be in great shape when your next surgery comes around. It will be so nice to be able to be your usually active self again.
Is John anxious for you to get back to the shopping or is he enjoying it?
I use a key hook thing for my necklaces. I used to use an old frame I had that I put cork behind with clear push pins. I decided I wanted the frame for something else. I have a little “book” made out of plastic canvas for my stud style earrings and then I have a jewelry box my Dad built for me. I don’t have a lot of “good” jewelry mostly costume.
Terri - I hope you have a wonderful free summer.
Ginny - thank you for that, I am feeling guilty for taking it and not being able to work in it yet.
Lisa - thank had two other friends on my FB yesterday celebrating their 15th wedding anniversary. It was a popular day to be married.
Rodger always says something snarky when he does something nice too.
Annie - it must feel wonderful to have your dad safe to give you a bit of a break a couple times a week.
Lanette - I’ve seen a few interviews now with different healthcare professionals thinking that Ozempic and such is the “magic” we’ve all wished for. It will probably be a decade or so before the final decisions are made. Now if they could do something about Alzheimer’s and many other diseases.
My husband is supposed to take his sugars but never does, we asked the pharmacist about the continuous one and he told us it's for severe diabetics it's not worth it for him.
They are quite expensive here $800 and then 70-80 every month. I know two Type 1 diabetics that have it and it’s saved them a couple of times though.
Lisa - I hope you got a nice hug and get a good sleep.
I finished a 2 page scrapbook layout for Kaitlyn’s album today. This one has been giving me grief for a few days now
It’s nothing like I imagined when I started it. LOL
I applied for some jobs including the city school board. I also applied for an Early Childhood Education certificate from the province. I don’t know if I need it for anything, but thought it wouldn’t hurt to have it. It might help with wages.
I finished watching The Marvellous Mrs. Maisel today, I need to find another show now.

Sorry about your headaches, Matchka. I get Migraines, too, especially in the summer. I keep a migraine pack on me at all times. I got some stuff from Etsy, like essential oils, meds, and a small pillow with rosemary and lavender. Sometimes, I nap in a dark, cool room until it is gone. At work, I step out and shut off the lights for 15. At times, it can be nauseating. I even got tea for headaches. Take care of yourself and rest. It is hard to slow down for ourselves sometimes.
@Grandmallie, I hate that you are in so much pain. UTIs are very painful; I hope the doctor can get you some Bactrim or something to clear it up. I hope you feel better soon.
@Anniesquats100, I hope you get help from Easter Seals. It is so hard for our parents to find help, and it takes a lot of investigative work. Please keep us posted on how it goes.
Michele, I am so sorry about your friend. You have a special place in her heart for being there for her; that is what she takes with her. She felt the love you always had for her. It is so hard to say goodbye. I am sending hugs.
My son is better and enjoys walking around Manhattan, New York. I went to my job for a retirement party for my co-workers. It was great seeing everyone. My husband was trying to help me with our alarm system. ADT has a lazy system where they tell you how to fix it instead of them coming. I told them that I was on a step stool and could not reach the monitor on the ceiling. With my foot issues, I had to climb on top of a side table to fix the system. I am so glad I didn't fall. Other than that, all is good here.

Tracey - He has always done the Thursday fruit and veg shop. He is responsible for breakfast, which is homemade muesli, (inc nuts and seeds he buys), fruits and many berries, and I have homemade yoghurt on top.
He also stews fruit regularly for dessert, like apricots, or apples and berries, plums, or pears. He uses different juices to stew them, so they are no sugar.
In addition, he buys the normal veg, (broccoli, cauliflower, green beans etc) and salad stuff, plus a bit of bread, or anything like sea bass, if they have it. He then staggers home with all this in two bags!
I do my Waitrose order about once a fortnight, but it's not so much fresh stuff, though I do order avocados and flat beans, onions. He likes to pick out the raspberries, strawberries, blackberries, blueberries, nectarines, etc. himself.
I normally get extras from the deli, things he doesn't automatically buy, that I like.
Tonight is cod that he previously bought from the fish market , with a coating of panko and pesto, with crushed peas in olive oil, and broccoli. Yum! Last night's chicken medley was divine, with a German rose wine! It's called Stepp, and is unexpectedly delightful. We order it regularly.
Love Heather UK xxxxxxxx4 -
PS - I also noticed kiwi fruit , grapes, and banana in my muesli this morning!
I'm so glad he has taken the mental load with the breakfasts. They are fabulous, and I don't have to think about them at all, apart from making yoghurt.
Lanette - My miracle basil plant is still going strong on the kitchen windowsill. I have had many pesto meals off it. It keeps coming back. It more or less grows in a water reservoir, to which I add a couple of drops of Baby Bio in the summer, when I remember. Not often. If you have a supermarket one, like mine, to may want to separate out the plants. There are usually far too many in the pots and they die off.
The rambling rose is next door's present
The enormous green bush/tree behind it is our bay tree!!! Needs a good prune, but we are waiting for the autumn when the birds have finished nesting. The sparrows produce three broods a year!
This is the result of my freezer excavation this morning. 2 kinds of Dim Sum, and the cod. John has put the apricots out so he doesn't forget to cook them. I steam the DS for 12 minutes and serve them with chilli sauce for me and a Chinese dip for John, soy sauce, sesame oil, Chinese wine, vinegar, fish sauce.

Good morning ladies!
Kylia hope the CPAP went well. For me, the improvement was gradual as I learned to sleep with the hose and all.
I'm supposed to meet a friend in a couple hours to go walking but not sure if it will work. Dad didn't charge his hearing aids and his belly was upset last night. Maybe.
On a good note, I looked back and it was May 17 that the police were here about Dad, and we started the new regime. We have done pretty well so far.
Allie, thinking about you!
Have a great day! May you be happy, healthy, safe and free!

Morning, my chickens, from the pre-dawn darkness of a summer Saturday in middle America,
Annie - So glad you're feeling like things are getting better with your dad, and that you're able to ride again. Mental health isn't always that easy to achieve in a situation as fraught as yours.
Heather - You and John found an amazing partnership, it's always fun to see how y'all split things up. Shopping in the freezer looks like fun when you do it!
Monique - So pleased that your son is doing better, and that you are, too! Climbing on furniture to accomplish things is not a good idea at the best of times, though. Be careful...
Tracey - I had to ask for the hug, in the end, but I got it. Reminds me once more that men can't read our minds, and asking is better than just wanting and not getting.
Michele - Well done for the good deed... I know that guy was terribly worried, and you made things better for him.
Allie - Hope the antibiotics have cut in - did Tracy have to cut her little vacation short, or did Miles stop pitching a fit?
Lanette/Debbie - We planted an Arkansas Traveler, a cherry tomato and two others, one heirloom, but the names escape me. Corey's getting enough cherry tomatoes to take a half-dozen with him for lunches. We're going to roast all the ripened full-sized ones we've got on Sunday to make the first tomato-based sauce of the season. Corey's already salivating at the thought. Seems like everything grows like mad here.
Definitely a better mood than when I went to bed, and that's a very good thing.
Supposedly rain tomorrow... varies by which weather weasel you pay heed to, so it's a guess. Hope it does. Helps keep our water bill down, and keeps us out of the inevitable burn bans and hose pipe bans.
Later, y'all,
Love,

Good morning!
Well I reckon I slept better last night. Woke up feeling rested and not tired, so that is good. My AHI score was 16 (that was events per hour) Last night I had 5 with the mask. No leakage. Not much bothers me once I fall asleep. Just dealing with frustrations of not being able to log into anything because my main email address is hooked up with DH's account. RRR. Will hopefully be able to fix on Monday.
Annie- I hope you get to go for your walk.
Love all the plant pictures.
Heading out to a car show shortly.
Much loves,
Kylia in Ohio4 -
We're getting there! That's my husband's new chair. I already have one like it. We also got new ottomans each.
I also feel like I'm getting stronger, especially in the upper body. I've been regularly lifting, carrying, scrubbing, painting, etc. etc. etc. for quite a while now with this new house, but just recently, things don't seem quite so heavy.
However, I do think I am going to have to see a chiropractor in a week or two.
