If your weight has been stable for 6 months, you're eating at maintenance calories.

You don't necessarily need to count calories in order to lose weight, but you do need to eat fewer calories than you burn (in all ways).

Simply changing your eating times doesn't ensure that you're eating fewer calories than you burn. I don't IF/TRE, but I'm quite confident I could eat all of my maintenance calories (and more) in one or two hours. If I did that, I'd maintain or gain weight.

Some people find that if they reduce the hours during which they eat, they automatically reduce the total amount they eat without having to count calories. Those people will lose weight on IF/TRE without further tactics. You may not be one of those people.

I agree with @AnnPT77 - IF is not a magic wand or talisman to wave at excess calories.

I have gained AND lost weight as an OMAD (effectively fasting 20 hours every day) and the only difference is that I successfully lost weight ONLY when eating fewer calories than I burned.

The only way that makes it somewhat easier is that I only need to budget my calories for one meal, rather than two or three: in that sense, the evening meals hubby and I eat on a regular basis will fit comfortably within my allotted calorie budget without too much extra effort (so it’s very sustainable for me long-term). I’ve lost 22lb since November, so within a similar timeframe to yours. Are you just relying on IF, or are you also sure you’re eating fewer calories than you’re burning?
