Hi everyone!
I had a really hard run today. I was supposed to run 16km at marathon race pace. After my warm up, the first 7km went well, were on target, and felt easy. Then after slowing down for an uphill segment and to navigate traffic, I was confronted with a really strong headwind after my turnaround point that really seemed to push me backwards. I still tried to finish the 10 miles out as quickly as I could, but my pace (and my spirit) suffered quite a bit. However, I am very proud that I got the workout in, as I know not every run is going to come easy or go according to my plan. I ran 22.7km.
In other news, I am now at 230.4km/270 for the month and on track for breaking 300km.8 -

Urgh, this tooth implant is way more brutal than expected. No running today, not sure about tomorrow either. I had to have a small bone graft and so my upper lip is swollen hugely. My husband has taken to calling me ‘fat lip’, my youngest tells me I look like the grinch, just less green, and my best friend describes it as “the worst lip filler job she’s ever seen”. Charming, all three of them.
Basically I can’t be seen. But, with six stitches I have to be gentle on myself for a few days. Running can wait. Soft food diet is boring - how much macaroni and custard can you eat?8 -
@WarmJellyfish I'm glad that your toe is doing better. Great running.
@emptydog See you in Sept. You've got this.
You're doing great @yirara . Don't push yourself too hard to get in a HM distance tomorrow. Taking walk breaks will help you go further, if you want to do that. I know some people really dislike the run/walk/run method.
Have a great, safe trip @Teresa502 . I'm looking forward to hearing all about it.
That's way too hot @SummerSkier ! Great running. I agree about the shoe laces. You do always feel a bit lop sided if you only retie one. I would probably round up and say it was 100 miles or go out and run 10 feet to bet the other 0.01 mile in. But, there is always tomorrow.
Great running @kgirlhart .
Thanks @tarun_yadavA . Great consistent running. Fantastic mileage for the month. As for jury duty, I won't know anything else until I go in for "orientation" on the 3rd of Sept.I must be catching the crazy!
@Laurz9191 That sounds like a really tough run! You did great! You're pace probably would have been faster than planned had you not had the wind in your face. There should be some sort of conversion for that.
That sounds pretty awful @ContraryMaryMary ! Hang in there and I hope you heal quickly.

Today was almost a repeat of Wednesday. I got up early and went to the gym. I did a fairly easy workout, mostly core and arms.
I drove over to the tennis center and got ready to play singles with a friend. She hasn't played since Dec because of knee pain and having a partial knee replacement. She really just wanted to see if she could play without pain. She did good, but was afraid to run much. She was doing better by the time we finished. I won 6-1, 6-2. It was fun. We did do a bit more talking than normal as we hadn't seen each other in a while either.
After I got home, I did a treadmill walk. I didn't want to walk fast on the driveway because my right knee was hurting when I was walking down the hill at the gym. It didn't bother me playing tennis, but I didn't want to take chances.
I rested and ate lunch and then went out and bush hogged on the hill for over an hour.
I had 3h47m42s of activity today. I burned a total of 1,111 calories.5 -

The plan called for a 3 mile base run today. I ran 6.25 miles at a pretty slow pace. I have pretty much decided to ditch the plan, but I am going to try to incorporate some speed work. So I guess I am modifying the plan. It was 84° feels like 86° and was a bit of a struggle at times. I did see another runner out though. And I saw my nephew's fiance. She actually saw me first and called out to me and waved as she drove by. So it wasn't a bad run, just a hot run.
Sorry that you had a sucky run @laurz9191. Hopefully the next one will be better.
@ContraryMaryMary I hope you feel better soon. Dental work is no fun.
@quilteryoyo You might just be the most active person I know! You are such an inspiration. I hope your knee feels better tomorrow.

Hi everyone!
I went on an easy recovery run this morning 4.4km. It went just fine . I am planning on doing my long run this week either tomorrow or Monday depending on how I feel tomorrow (and how early I can get myself out of bed).
Have a good weekend everyone!

I feel for you, @ContraryMaryMary - I had 6 implants done back in 2016: best thing I ever did but felt like I’d been kicked in the face by a donkey. I ate LOTS of scrambled egg! Weirdly, I couldn’t eat lettuce for ages, something about how you have to chew it meant it was too tricky (it was my front teeth plus four to one side). However, once healed, the joy of that first bite into an apple still gives me a moment of thankfulness!7 -

I decided to bring forward my Sunday long run to today as I’ll be babysitting tomorrow with no opportunity to run: it was raining, and showing no signs of stopping, so whilst hubby thinks I’m nuts I went out anyway.
Trialled a new playlist (see spoiler for screenshot of cadence and the playlist), which gave me a mixture of tempos that kept me interested/challenged, and it felt really good - and I also got a PB for my 5k, knocking 2m 10s off my previous best. Blimey!
Playlist
Happy (160) during warm up walk
Take on me (168/170)
I’m so excited (182/184)

@AmunahSki great job on your PR! That is a big improvement 😄
@ContraryMaryMary hope your mouth heals soon 😥 I loathe the dentist!
@Laurz9191 you are killing it!
@quilteryoyo you are the Energizer Bunny!
I got out for a 7.6 mile easy run that was anything but easy. It was SOOO hot 🥵. Summer is relentless.
But it was my longest run since coming back a few months ago so I'll take it

I am just going to leave this here. Yesterday I got home from work and my oldest cat was acting really frightened. She was cowering and hiding. I thought OH MY she is sick or something. Turns out that even tho I did not see or hear it there were thunderstorms all around with a cold front. She is my little weather vane and even without the actual rain or thunder she sensed it. animals are so cool!
finally reached my goal after another day yesterday where i just felt tired. Back to normal today.6 -
@ContraryMaryMary Dental work is the worst! I had an implant for one of my molars. I agree with @AmunahSki that afterwards I was so glad I did it, but as someone who has significant anxiety around all types of dental work, the multiple visits were so stressful. I didn’t have stitches for my bone graft but maybe the location was part of it and I had it placed immediately after they pulled the tooth that was causing all the problems so there was clear access without having to cut the gum. I do remember having tiny shards of bone occasionally work their way up through my gum for several months afterwards. Not awesome.
@SummerSkier It is just a little less hot this morning and I’ll take it! What we accept as a cold front these days is sad.
@AmunahSki Good job getting out and doing your run in the rain. I know that’s hard for a lot of people. I personally LOVE running in the rain, esp when it’s hot out, but most find it to be a bit of a grind.
@scott6255 I’m proud of you for doing speed work in 81F weather. I just don’t. It’s miserable and I can’t get close to my target paces so I opt out until fall.5 -

I am in the hill country for a few days. It was only 74F, 94% humidity this morning, which was a nice change. There is very little shade here so it felt pretty warm as the sun was coming out and I still got super sweaty but having just a little break in the conditions helped a lot. I saw a jackrabbit at the end of my driveway on my way out. Hadn’t seen one of those in a while.
We haven’t been out here in over a month and I’m not sure how much weeding my husband did when he was here last. The weeds are nuts. I guess that’s what I will be doing this week.5 -

Thanks @kgirlhart . Great running on your part. Sometimes I feel that plans are made to be modified, like rules are made to be broken. My knee is feeling a lot better.
@AmunahSki Congratulations on your 5K PB. That's an amazing increase in pace. Love the playlist vs cadence.
Great run @scott6255! I don't know how you run that far and fast in the extreme heat. As for the Energizer bunny, I think my batteries are running out after this week. I'm glad tomorrow is Sunday.
@SummerSkier Great mileage. Glad you at least had a hint of a thunderstorm. It is amazing what animals can sense that humans have no clue about. That meme is hilarious.
Nice run @martaindale . It's amazing how quickly weeds can grow in any conditions. Enjoy your time in the hill country.
@AlphaHowls Great running. Just WOW to both of those photos! Amazing.

I decided to try to get my birthday run in this morning (3 weeks later) since it was a lot cooler today than it is supposed to be next week and I am pretty much over my cough. It was a struggle though. My legs never did get loosened up. Garmin coach Jeff Galloway says that "you can't run too slow or take too many walk breaks on your long runs." I took him at his word today. My overall pace was 13:51 min/mile - which really isn't horrible, but it wasn't as easy as that pace should have been. My avg HR was 147 with a max of 177bpm. That 177 was a weird 2 min at around 1h18 min in. It went up quickly, stayed there about 1 min, and then fell back to around 150 quickly. Maybe a glitch.
One of my neighbor's called to me as I was running by, so I stopped and talked to him a few minutes. I kept trying to leave, but he kept talking. When I finally started back to running, my legs were really, really stiff and tired. It took a bit to get back into the run.
After I got home, I rested up and then went out and bush hogged almost 1.5 hours. I did take some water with me today and took a couple of breaks while mowing. The sun seemed to be hotter today. I think one more day and I should be finished with that hill.....I hope.

Good morning from Rome. I got in a 7 mile run this morning. The smells from the bakeries this morning made me glad I didn’t have any money with me or I would not have made it far! I got started around 6 am and it was 72F. Yesterday we landed around 8:30 am and just walked around near our hotel before having a 3 hour tour in a golf cart. After a quick dinner we crashed at 7:30 pm! Heading to Tivoli today.
This morning I ran in a park named Villa Borghese
Donna and I heading out for the day.
A garden in the park.9 -
Hi everyone!
I ran 10.1km this morning. Tomorrow will be my long run day. So far, so good with marathon training. I still have 5 weeks to go. Next Saturday I have 2 races to finish up the month with- a 3km family run with 2/3 of the kids, then a 12km obstacle course run in a team of 3. I am really looking forward to this event as it is always really fun to run and then climb walls, get wet, and full of mud and stuff. It’s not my usual dodging slugs type of run . The best part is always this water slide you do 3 times up and down a hill.
Anyways, I reached 245/270km for the month.
@Teresa502 Enjoy your trip! It’s really cool you got to run in Rome! I always take money with me, so that I can stop and get something (after my run of course)!9 -
Morning all.
Got in 10 miles (at 09"29 pace).
@Teresa502 lovely! Enjoy!
Inspired by @Laurz9191 went for a longer run today, and towards the end... Decided to see if I could just step on it. So I did. Miles 8 -> 9 at sub 08"00 ✅
I mean I needed to pee... So that! But and you too, @Laurz9191 lol
Have a great Sunday everyone!
(3 day weekend here in England!)8
