How many times do I say that before I believe he’s just being nice? He went grocery shopping again. My plan was to not even have it in the house, so I wouldn’t drink it this week! UGH!
I love my husband, I love my husband, I love my husband…
We must have the same husband. I would rather have a gift bag with fresh produce from my DH than a gift wrapped bottle of booze.

Day 6 is a huge achievement all the same, I wish I could get to one day. Huge congrats!!
You’re right about vitamins, too. Particularly B vitamins, which are so important for so many functions in our bodies. Isn’t it crazy how we can know how bad the drinking is, but still continue to do it 😕
I haven’t had an af day In a long time and I’d really like today to be that day 🤞
Seven days ago, I couldn't get one AF day for months. I said the same thing as you for days "I wish I could get to Day 1 and that I hoped that today could be that day". I had been drinking daily since the beginning of May (I had two AF days in the beginning of May). Then I was off to the races.
If you've been drinking heavily, I recommend one off the suggestions @MissMay suggested: Stopping your drinking earlier or not starting as early by an hour each day".
For me, once I start I cannot stop until I go to bed. So what I did was I started drinking a half an hour later each day. I was drinking whiskey (750 - 1000 ml a day). The day I started this, I didn't have any in the house in the morning and started at 9 am when the liquor store opened. The next day, I started at 9:30 am. The second day I measured some out and poured it down the sink. At first, I would pour out only 25 ml a day (and increase that by 25 ml each day). At some point, I increased it to 50 ml. I planned it so I could pour my last drink around 8 or so each evening. And I finally got my Day 1.
Getting the first day really is the hardest (at least for me). After that it becomes much easier.
Keep trying! If I can do it, so can you 🙂

@chicbuc Years ago I was drinking very heavily and my skin started peeling like after a bad sunburn. That also went away when I cut down.
I hope you've recovered from your cruise 😎2 -

I am so happy to hear of the successes for many of you, including @SurferGirl1982! It’s wonderful to hear your enthusiasm and your determination is paying off.
@MissMay - your stats are always inspiring!
@SparkSpringtime69 I am finding we are similar in our patterns this past week of A - AF - A - AF……that’s what I’m calling my intermittent wine days and for me, it is still LA although those 2-3 day AF day streaks are the best! ☺️
Planning an early evening tonight since celebrations begin tomorrow through the weekend.
Current including tonight.
AF days - 6
A days - 7

Day 1 8/9 - AF (claiming it early)
Day 2 8/10 - AF
Day 3 8/11 - AF
Day 4 8/12 - AF
Feeling wonderful!
@chicbuc I never thought about the connection between A and my hair falling out... how long before you noticed an improvement?5 -
Good going @MissMay 👍3

@looneycatblue Looks like you got this 😀4

@looneycatblue It took about 2 weeks to notice there wasn't as much in the drain when I washed it, and now I have about a half inch growth at my temples where it seemed to be disappearing from, AND it is a bit longer in general.
You've got this!4 -

Didn’t drink last night, and I’m not drinking tonight. I walked yesterday and today. Stayed under calories. Thursday is weigh-in day. We’ll see if I can keep it up.
I’m so glad to see such positivity in the group and noticing all the reversals of the side effects of drinking too much. I love that I sleep so much better, and I can remember what happened last night.5 -
Thank you so much @MissMay and @SurferGirl1982 for your helpful comments, support and making me feel so welcome 🤗
I actually did it, yesterday was my first af day in a year. The sense of accomplishment I feel is untrue. I’ve been drinking heavily for too long, although I didn’t usually start until after school time. I’ve tried staring later but generally I just drink the same amount in less time, no matter how good my intentions.
I take my nutrition and exercise seriously and have seen zero results for such a long time, I know it’s because I can’t out train the calories I’m consuming in wine. Something has to give, not just for this reason but for my future as well.
I hope this is a big step forwards for me and I am looking forward to the ride.
If I can do it, anyone can 💪🏻🙌12 -
Congratulations, @KaizenLe, you did it!! Day 1 in the books! 🥳🥳🎉🎉🎊🎊6
-
@KaizenLe That is awesome! My first AF day was in March and it was my first in YEARS, too! You did the hardest part, now keep moving forward! So proud of you!
No wine for me last night and none planned tonight. It's time to get this streak going.
Prelogging tonight...
AF = 5
A = 9

@KaizenLe That's awesome 🎉 Keep going. It gets easier with time. And as you notice all the positive results, you will be more motivated. You will sleep better, have more energy and (for me) feel more balanced physically. You can do it 👌
Yesterday, we took my cat to the vet. After we got home, my husband said, "I forgot to tell you. When you were at the front desk, your shirt looked looser than normal".
Then this morning, he told me that I looked better since quitting. He said my complexion looked better and that my eyes looked clearer 😀

Hello everyone, I have wanted to stop drinking for over a year now. I have used the excuse of it helps me calm down, it helps relive my stress, it's perfect for winding down at the end of the night. None of this is true for me, I was using it to aviod dealing with things in my life. When I had a rough day at work or my daughters streesed me out that was an excuse to drink, it didn't help me at all just putting off dealing with my stuff.
It's nice to see that other people are dealing with the same thing and getting through it. Thank you all for sharing your experience and insight it gives hope that this is possible. Yesterday was my Day 1, I wrote in my journal last night about why I am no longer drinking alcohol and started a count at the top of the page. Each night I will journal about my way and countinue my count.
Good luck everyone!13 -
@gottagetthisdown Welcome, and congrats on your first AF day! You've got this!6

@gottagetthisdown and @KaizenLe Welcome - I’m so happy you found us!
Many of us on this thread have shared we thought that drinking is the answer but the opposite is really true. And many of us use a journal since it is a wonderful daily reminder of why we want LA in our lives.
I probably won’t be able to post for a few days but have a plan to allow for some wine with family the next few days but will stay mindful of servings. Sister and BF arrive today and will stay with us. Others fly in tomorrow and Friday. We are hosting the big family shindig and do love celebrations and have a couple other activities planned. I can sleep when they go home, right!?!
Take good care of yourselves today!9 -

@gottagetthisdown Welcome to the group. And congratulations on Day 1 AF.
A lot of us drank for the same reason that you mentioned, to calm down and relieve stress. But in reality, alcohol causes anxiety and disrupts sleep. I also causes a rise in blood pressure.
Keep up the good work. Keep journaling and Good Luck!6 -

Counting today early so I can't backslide...
Ordered 5 simple summer dresses from an "overseas Country" infamous for scams without even checking reviews as I usually do. Dunna know what I wasn't thinking. The package is now waiting in the weeds by the road, 100 feet from my front porch, where FedEx & USPS dump packages marked "deliver to front door". Will hike out shortly to retrieve package & see what surprises await me....
Anyone out there who has a friend, relative, partner who works for UPS...give them a hug or a smile from me, for being the only delivery service besides Instacart that actually finds my front door. Neither deer, nor groundhog, nor non-existant dog sways them from completing a proper delivery !!
Keep the LA & AF days coming !!6 -
@Michieb125 Have a great time with your family!4

August:
AF days - 6
A days - 8
Already logging tonight as A, finishing off the bottle of wine I opened yesterday. Boy, the A streaks are so easy and the AF ones not so much .9 -
@KaizenLe and @gottagetthisdown Welcome to the group, and CONGRATULATIONS on the first AF day of the year!
@womona nice job keeping not opening another bottle.
@Michieb125 I do keep reminding myself that I'm still drinking way less than I was a few months ago. Two years ago I went months without a drink so I know I'm capable of it. I think I need to change my mindset from "one A day" (when they occur) to "A day number one" - maybe that will put my brain into more of a 'streak' mode.
I hope you have a great family shindig this week.
@csilverthorn22 Welcome to the group! Everyone here is very supportive and inspiring, I hope you're able to visit us often and get some of the support you're looking for.5 -
Day 1 8/9 - AF (claiming it early)
Day 2 8/10 - AF
Day 3 8/11 - AF
Day 4 8/12 - AF
Day 5 8/13 - AF
NSV: We had Panda Express (Chinese fast food) last night for dinner... I watched what I ate, didn't overdue it and saved half for tonight. About an hour later I was getting a bit hungry/snackish. I could have easily reached for the Oreos, but with a clear head, went downstairs and brought up 2 apples (1 for DH), cut them up and was totally happy with my decision. Guaranteed the Oreos would have won out if I had been drinking!6 -
@gottagetthisdown Congratulations on day 1!! 🎉🎉🎊

I gave in tonight and opened the bottle🙁 I didn’t exceed calories, and I’m going to bed.10 -

Welcome to you, and all the newcomers! I love this group.3 -
Ok, I think I need to check in with this group at around dinner time, or when I get home from work. I normally check in to this thread in the morning, and I’m motivated to cut back. By the time a long day has happened/I have something to celebrate, it all goes out the window. I should look for encouragement and inspiration when I’ at my weakest, not at my strongest, all pumped up on coffee!
Last night I planned only one drink, but then decided to kill off the bottle and have that last half glass of wine. Well, turns out there was another full glass left in the bottle. Sigh. So, I only drank half of that glass, which is a win over having two glasses, but did not achieve my goal of just one glass of wine. Oh, and of course I reached for some crackers as well, which I normally not have.
Funny, if I’ve passed my window of wine o’clock, I don’t even really want it. Yet I pour a glass anyway.
I’ve been sleeping so poorly, and have been having a lot of hot flashes. I’m positive this has to do with alcohol. And pasta- delicious bready carbs give me hot flashes!
I’ll check back with you all tonight!11 -
@KaizenLe and @gottagetthisdown @csilverthorn22
CONGRATULATIONS on your victories and welcome to our group.
@forestdweller1 I also ordered from one of those sites. What a huge disappointment and frustration because there was no one to contact. All the email and phone numbers were not real. Luckily my credit card company deleted the charges. GOOD luck, fingers crossed for you.
@Womona of course you can send out an S.O.S. anytime of the day. If your feeling weak, get in here and post it. Even if you do not get a response right away, it may deter you from straying from your LA goal.
I think my stress hormone kicked in and us causing belly bloat. ERrrrrr! Not even time on my exercise ball is getting rid of it. I need to "chill" on my own terms.
Keep all this positivity going. It is contagious.
