@looneycatblue Thanks!
You're doing really well. For me, once I get that first day, it's smooth sailing 😎
Keep up the good work!

Declaring tonight AF. Ate too much over the past 2 days. Walking will be critical this week, and no A all week.
We have a trivia night on Saturday and drinks will be poured. So, I’m going to hold off until then, and not overdo it on Saturday.6 -
@NonnieDoiron That would be great if you can go all week AF. You would then have 12 AF days.
Keep up the good work!4 -
I have a lot of things to do in the morning. So I'm going to check in tonight.
AF - 5
A - 6
Good night everyone!6 -
Welcome new comers! Glad you found this great group of people for support!
Family starts arriving on Wednesday so it’s been a LOT of preparation and anticipation over our big family gathering this week. We are pretty much ready and now I am feeling excited to see everyone.
AF tonight with a Recess zero proof Margarita, then will have my calm and an herbal tea drink.
Current:
AF days - 5
A days - 6

Three drinks on Saturday- I should NOT have ordered that second glass of wine, after my gin and tonic because I felt it Sunday. Last night was 1.5 glasses of wine. Tonight I am going to crack open the lower alcohol wine and stick to one. Wish me luck! I am struggling to get my numbers down-let’s not even talk about AF days! Even though I’ve done it before, man that wine o’clock habit is very hard for me to break.8
-
@Womona I hear you, that wine o’clock is so powerful! Sounds like you will have less with your LA wine today!
AF last night, slept great and woke feeling good. Way better than the morning after 3 glasses of a red wine a few days ago. Just zapped me!
Note to self: Aim for 1-2 servings on those intermittent wine days for my own personal goals and mental health.
Counting another conservative AF day and
heading out for a walk on this beautiful morning.
Current:
AF days - 6
A days - 67 -
Day 1 8/9 - AF (claiming it early)
Day 2 8/10 - AF
Day 3 8/11 - AF
Some major reasons for me to keep with this:
1. My eating has improved, no mindless snacking.
2. Sleep is so much better, no waking up to sweats and heart racing.
3. No regrets in the morning... remembering what shows I watched and didn't say anything stupid!
4. Weight is starting to go down, slowly, but I don't care, as long as it goes down.
5. No problem getting up for my early morning walks.
6. More energy overall.
Lots of benefits, and it has only been 3 days! I still have a strong urge to pour something while cooking dinner... I hope this goes away soon.10 -
@looneycatblue I'm glad you're sticking with it. I'm on Day 7 AF and I can't believe how much better I feel. I was having problems with my balance and coordination. Just walking was difficult (not to mention walking up stairs). We went to the store earlier and I opened the car door hopped out and pushed the cart around. I really seem to be improving.
The reasons you list are exactly the same for me. I know what you mean about not remembering what you watched on TV the night before. A lot of times I would remember what I watched. But I could remember the storyline 😕
I have one additional reason for not drinking that you didn't mention. Alcohol (particularly heavy usage) depletes vitamins and minerals from our bodies. Or, prevents them from being absorbed. I had been drinking pretty heavily for a while and I had some issues that were related to vitamin/mineral deficiencies. And those issues are already improving.
Keep it up!5 -
I love my husband, I love my husband, I love my husband…
How many times do I say that before I believe he’s just being nice? He went grocery shopping again. My plan was to not even have it in the house, so I wouldn’t drink it this week! UGH!
I love my husband, I love my husband, I love my husband…6 -
August:
AF days - 5
A days - 6
@looneycatblue and @SurferGirl1982 way to go with the streaks! I've been having trouble getting more than 2-3 days in a row, I've basically been doing ever other day: A, AF, A, AF etc. I really want to get a streak going this week, so thank you both, and everyone else here with a good streak, for the inspiration.
I didn't realize alcohol can deplete vitamins/minerals - yet another reason for me to do a lot more cutting back.
@NonnieDoiron my DH always asks me if I want anything while he's out (and anything means wine). And once he asks I give in and say sure get me a bottle, even if I had been planning an AF night. He does it to be nice, even though he wants to see me cut way back.

@SparkSpringtime69 I was starting to have a lot of physical problems and was basically nonfunctional. So, just cutting back wasn't really an option for me. You might try having and A day and then a AF day. Then a A day followed by two AF days, etc.
Many years ago, I used to go to a bar in my old hometown and there was an older gal that went there. She was really nice and one day when she was leaving, I said "See you tomorrow". She said, "Oh, I never drink two days in a row". I guess that's good practice. Because it's really bad becoming dependent on alcohol (like I did). I tried following her advice. But, obviously, I didn't do it.
Your husband sounds just like mine. He didn't want to encourage me. But if he was going to the store, he would ask the same thing. "Are you going to want anything?"
Regular alcohol usage does deplete vitamins and minerals. I know for sure it affects the B vitamins and magnesium (there are probably others). I'm not an expert. But I started doing some research when I started getting bad leg cramps and numbness in my toes (just to mention a couple of things). Things are getting better now. Today is Day 7.
I'm feeling much better now. I'm sleeping great. And I have a lot more energy. And walking is getting to feel more natural.
Good luck...you can do it!7 -
Ooopps! I posted that today is Day 7 for me. I was just looking at my calendar and today is only Day 6 for me ☹️3

Day 6 is a huge achievement all the same, I wish I could get to one day. Huge congrats!!
You’re right about vitamins, too. Particularly B vitamins, which are so important for so many functions in our bodies. Isn’t it crazy how we can know how bad the drinking is, but still continue to do it 😕
I haven’t had an af day In a long time and I’d really like today to be that day 🤞9 -
Good morning! So many new/returning names...love it and welcome (back)!
@SurferGirl1982 Look at you go! So happy for you! You're so right about the vitamins and minerals. I had started losing hair and it just wouldn't grow until I started reducing the alcohol in March. Now it's not falling out as much and is growing again.
We got back yesterday morning from a short little weekend cruise and went straight to work (ugh). I drank WAY too much this past weekend and intend to focus on the AF days for a few weeks. I didn't go to bed until 4 ish AM on Monday morning and had to be up by 7 to get home and then went to work. Needless to say, I crashed around 5:00 PM last night without drinking and didn't revive until 6:30 this morning
Looking forward to everyone's updates and encouragement. Have a great week!

Your day one WILL come. And when it does it will be glorious! Until it does though, you are taking all the right steps towards that day.
Remember cutting back by either making it
•one less drink a day or week
•leaving a partial drink before it is all consumed, and dumping it out.
• combining alternating alcohol and mocktail drinks at the same time.
•stopping your drinking earlier or not starting as early by an hour each day.
These are just a few of a huge list of suggestions to help cut back. Because any cutting back is a success.
So glad you with us.8 -

I am so thrilled to read this. Congrats

Had a little over one glass of “real” wine to kill off the bottle. I’m happy that I didn’t open another one, so I’ll take the very moderate win. Didn’t meet my goal of one glass of Low alcohol wine, though.6
