The last time I went to a family reunion was 15 years ago until this past July!! Fithteen years ago I took my GD up to a family reunion held every winter about 90 mins from here. I was so embarrassed!! As you can see from the picture above I used a power chair most of the time. I was horribly embarrassed by my ownself. My family was terrific in not being cruel at all
Fast forward to this past July. I DID finally go to one in Silver Bay NY (in the Adirondack Mountains ). NOT only did I go, but I had a GREAT TIME!!! I was able to do more than I had in the past. Its a huge complex (cabins, a large hotel and more places to rent). I went SWIMMING as much as I wanted to go (AND I DID!) took a painting class (that was fun!) boat rides. I was very active.

How did I go from 288 lbs to 178 lbs? I had come online in 2010 because I knew I could not do this alone. I found a site which since that time has closed. I am one of the Over All Leaders of the 5% Challenge. We relocated to MFP after looking at quite a few sites!! WOW! We are happy to be here and have been for 3 years!! HAPPILY SO!! Many who have been and are new to MFP have also joined us and are having the same success we are!! Interested? OH, PLEASE read below!!
On the 2024 5% Fall Challenge Community Team we have MANY openings!! We actually do not have a set number of members each challenge. We run for 8 weeks (with a small break) throughout the year. WHAT is a "5% Challenge"? here's the official definetion:

Yes we help to improve our health, by working on healthy habits (referred to as an LTGL - Living The Good Life) such as drinking water, tracking food and so much more one week at a time while doing exercises at our OWN LEVEL!! As you can see I was using a power chair when I first started. LOL We all know this means I was not able to go out for a walk. But, at my own level I laid in bed moving my legs and after that my arms, very slowly and not many reps. Over time i got stronger. I added tightening my abs while laying down. This lead me to taking a few steps without the chair and in time I gave away the power chair!! What an exciting time that was!! This did NOT happen fast, but it has lasted. Its what I LOVE about the 5% Challenge (Group/team). I've learned many healthy habits. Oh hey!! I'll always love junk food, but now its in moderation, and my cravings are nothing like they were.

@Catwmncat TY we've watched you doing an amazing job with us on the team also. It's very exciting to see members leaning not to (die-t,,, we don't want living a healthy lifestyle to feel like punishment!)to be healthy while you've helped us so much sharing your knowledge.
