New To My Fitness Pal

Greetings!
I've just parachuted into this new world on the recommendation of my doc. Mission: Achieve Physical Zenith. I've been cruising on the health highway pretty smoothly, but then, BAM! Menopause decided to throw a wrench (or a whole toolbox) into the works. AAARGH!

This year has been a rollercoaster. Amidst the twists, turns, and occasional upside-down loops, I took a hot minute to press the pause button and reflect. Conclusion? It's high time to shuffle the deck and play a new hand in this game of life, aiming to age like a fine wine - active and with a bit of a kick. Who needs grace when you can have gusto, right?

Professionally, I'm the guardian of tomes, a.k.a. a librarian, in the sunny (and sometimes sultry) southeastern USA.

Pleased as punch to make your acquaintance!

    Hi, @VelvetChainsaw, and welcome!

I can't speak to "zenith" (do I even think I have a zenith? do I know what it would be? :grimace:). But I do have a strong feeling, based on personal experience, that MFP can be a beneficial sidekick if the quest is improved nutrition, weight management, and/or fitness improvement.

Key ingredients, IMO: Patience, persistence and a personalized plan tailored to one's own preferences, strengths, limitations, and lifestyle.

I've benefitted a great deal from MFP as a tracking tool. (I lost from class1obese to a healthy weight in a bit under a year, been maintaining a healthy weight for 8 years since).

I've also learned so very much from reading posts here in the Community. There's a mix of good info and trendy nonsense, a mix of tough love and warm'n'fuzzy communication styles, but I'm betting that as a tome guardian you have some education and experience when it comes to evaluating sources, messages, and conclusions! I do think nearly everyone who posts here sincerely wants to help others.

As background, I'm 68 now (59-60 during loss), quite active (only since my mid- to late 40s), very interested in sensible nutrition (but amateur), female, and menopausal since being put there by chemotherapy at about age 45.

One of my strong feelings is that it's too easy to focus on menopause as The Great Evil, but I'm not convinced that's a productive way to look at it. Don't get me wrong, it has consequences and side effects, and some of those are . . . not helpful. Seriously not helpful.

But - other than HRT which I can't take myself because of my cancer history - menopause is unchangeable fact. The symptoms and implications, however, can be improved (or circumvented) in various ways. IMO, looking at it that way, focusing on what we can actually do, rather than the intractable menopausal state itself, is a more productive orientation. YMMV.

In any case, best wishes for success with your specific goals, whatever they may be!
