I'm so sorry with the job jolt Vicki! Some companies have no sense of decency, or proper decorum regarding how they treat their employees. Big hugs!💖

Ok shopping. Way too many good things.
Today's main meal is chicken salad with celery, apples, walnuts and I need to create the dressing for it. I need to look that part up. I need to chop everything fairly fine, then put it in a sandwich.

I found marionberry turnovers, 2 of them! My treats. I bought brie singles, Tillamook sharp cheddar and pepper jack slices.

I found crab! Just a small container, but big pieces. I plan on a nice crab Louie salad this next week!

I had several things I was going to say, but having trouble today keeping any thoughts together.
Yesterday afternoon I was called into the boardroom with the big bosses and told that my department will be closed Nov 1. They are out soucing what we do. I am in shock as did not see this coming. I told them my plan was to work 3 more years and get out of debt then retire. I was told thanks for your service, but you are no longer needed. I have to stay until Nov 1 to get my payout and keep my staff until then. I am upset they let me hire 2 new people and they are out too. I have been up most the night trying to figure out how I feel. I have been here 37 years and such a big part of who I am. I was scheduled for this next week off and still going to take it, just not going anywhere. Have to figure somethings out. Money wise we should be okay. Just extra money to get things paid off will not be there. Also I have to figure out who I am if not working. This has been a rough summer and I am afraid I am going to pull inside myself and sit at home and eat. As I have been fighting that the last couple months. Thank each of you for being here and letting me vent.

    Hello, beautiful ladies!
I had a productive day. I slept a lot this week but didn't exercise. I ache from my neck down. Rose and I got up early. Next week will be better. I didn't sleep much during my work week. I got into the jeans I had been saving for 20 years, but like the article that Machka posted, they aren't in style and don't look good on me. So, I will donate them. Rose is at day camp playing. I went to the pharmacy to pick up my meds for $90.00! My FSA Card needs receipts, so they shut it down. Then I went to the bank to find out for DH why they shut it down—$ 25.00. I told DH to make a deposit months ago. That is why I didn't participate in our joint checking account. I would put in money; he would spend it.
I never gave up my Chase account before marriage. I returned some Amazon items to Whole Paycheck(Whole Foods). Then I went to Hollywood Feed to get Rose more fish-crunchy things. Then I went to the corner market to call me and Rose our smoked chicken. I got some cabbage, greens, dressing, red beans and rice. I can eat on that over 4-5 days. There is something to be said about going out hungry. You can buy out the entire store. :p Now I am home. My neck and head hurt, so I took Motrin, Excedrin Migraine, and Pseudoephedrine. I have a feeling it is all stress-related.

Lanette, I'm sorry that my suburbia fight story over the dirty movies made you spit out your morning coffee. You had to be there. My kids were 2 and 4. They yelled for me to tell me that there was an argument
outside. I forgot the movies were out there. There were over 100 movies. I covered them with newspaper because I was embarrassed, yet they discovered them. In Chicago, no one looks in your garbage. I didn't remember anyone looking in our garbage growing up. DH said those movies are worth a lot. I was afraid to take them home cause my daughter was curious. I gave away my dad's gun collection for fear of little hands getting on them. ( I should have sold them)

PIP and I are honored to have Yogi pictured during our birthday month. What kind of dog is Yogi,
anyway? He looks like a black lab mixed with a golden retriever. Have you always been active your entire
    life?

Annie, I am so happy that you got away and had fun. It would be best if you did it again in the future. I hate to gamble, too. I overheard this lady talking about her mom. She said her mom would stay overnight at the casino, gamble $900.00, and then go home the next day. I am weird; I only gamble $25.00, and then I am done. That has been my rule since I was 21(My only time in Vegas). I gained $200.00 and kept it. When I won, I put my $25.00 back and gambled again, then beat again and stopped when this guy woke me up at the machine and told me I threw away a whole house. The best part of Vegas was the food, shows, and the pool. Annie, you must go on more trips or even to a staycation, where someone will watch your dad for you. I saw the importance of caregivers taking breaks for their sanity.
Back in Vegas, my friend Linette (I call her "Baby Suko") When there was a mass shooting at this concert, I heard about it on the news. I knew Baby Suko and her family always go to Vegas. When I heard it was a Country Music concert. My heart stopped. I called Baby Suko and asked her not to tell me she was there. She was, and the person in front of her got shot, and behind her was shot. She went through PTSD from it. She took off her shirt to stop the bleeding of the person in front of her.

Machka, you are a great photographer, and your posts are inspiring. What do you think about Hybrid bikes? I agree with the "Hobbies You Love" post. There are many I love, as well as your photos.

Welcome home, Rebecca; I know you are glad to be back. Do you miss the farting dog yet?

Vicki, I am so sorry. They should give some sort of warning, but they never do. This may be an opportunity to do something else that can be a money-maker for the next three years. Look into it to find a better job if you are not ready to retire. Next year, I may be retiring from UMMC, but I will continue to work cause I like doing my own thing. My dad was not allowed to retire because the doctor said he would be a couch potato and die. He died one year after retiring. I'm not saying that will happen to you. I am telling you I can work somewhere else if that is what you want—sending you a big hug.

Rita, I hope you feel better soon. Listen to your body and sleep.

Flu shot time ladies, COVID booster, and Arexvy for RSV.
    Have a wonderful day, everyone.

Tere - Welcome back! Hope you're able to keep stopping in. Always good to see you.

Vicki - Sending so many hugs, still, someone else said it and I agree, there are stages of grief that you will go through. We're here, and you'll remember who you are again without work. Just give yourself some time. Always hard to see the blessing in a brutal change, but this may have saved your life - they were pushing you awfully hard for an awfully long time.

Mo - Glad everything's getting sorted out with accounts and such. This group has had long discussions on joint accounts vs. separate ones and mingling finances as opposed to each paying part. The upshot always seems to be that each relationship has to find their own way for these things, and it sounds as if you've got it sorted.

Tracey - Just so many wonderful things happening in your life, I hope that Kaitlyn adds to that joy, as well.

Rebecca - Welcome home, it's always such a relieft to be back.

My thinking time today was spent creating these. Easy peasy, fun to make, lets my mind go awandering while I make 'em.

Time to go play some more on my procrastinated project.

    Later,
    Love,

Vicki- thats just rotten.. im so verry sorry.. we were told right before Christmas our dental practice had sold..where I had worked for 14 yrs.. and the guy who bought it was ,horrible..
The stress he put us under was unbelievable. I think in part one of the reasons for my heart surgery.
He did all he could do to make us quit.. and this was just before covid.
I finally just gave in and quit.. best thing I ever did.and he even tried suing the other girl for unemployment ,which was denied.. he is an evil man..
Where God closes a door he opens a window.
Took Doris to visit a friend ,dropped her off at Burger King. And went grocery shopping for her.at 2 different places and came and picked her up.
Then went home and helped put it away.
The eye she had laser surgery on,just isn't working right, we go see the dr tomorrow . And then I see my Sleep apnea dr tomorrow afternoon.
I have severe acid reflux today and nauseous. Going to lay low tonight.Cant afford to get sick.
Toms place made out ok,he doesn't need to go down..so Alfie is going to be able to stay there.

    Gratitudes:
Thursday: When Mooch was running toward the closing garage door, I yelled “Mooch, no!” and he turned around and ran back to me away from the danger of getting squished.
Wednesday: Joe met neighbors walking their dogs. Shadow was well-behaved and they were able to chat.
Machka, when I read “I figure I have about 10 years of work left…” my first thought was that I have at least 10 years of decluttering work left to do. Your “almost ready” to let go of clothing from the past despite good memories resonates. I’m not quite ready to let go of the patchwork jeans jacket that I loved to death or the little white windbreaker with a red cross, worn during the 1969 People’s Park Riots. Neither is fit for donating. Putting in the trash would really hurt. You’re wise to be wary of the more closet space trap.
    Heather I love the idea of a memory box. I could put those there, with other things that I can’t bear to part with, and revisit when I’m feeling sentimental. I really have gotten a lot out of Cas’ 30 day challenge, will dip into some others when I need more. Listening to Michael Easter’s “Scarcity Brain” and think it may have application not just to why I always want to eat more (especially sweets), but why I always think I have to buy more (food, paper products, disaster prep supplies)… ;}
Annie 46 minutes on the bike AND CI under CO? Very well done!
    Pip SMOOCH that pooch!
Rita sorry you’re feeling sore, hope the doc can fix easily. the ballon fiesta pic.
Lanette “…improvement from staying with it” Boy Howdy that’s the challenge for me. Seems like whenever I get into a rhythm with BB&B or PT exercises, something happens to throw it off/out the window. Rotator cuff tear. Cold. Rib slip. Pfui!
Rebecca glad you’re home safe, missed you and your mouthwatering food porn too! What you said about never having to hunt for anything being a de-stresser. True for me in the kitchen (unless Joe puts the dishes away ;} ) but not true in the craft closet or garage. Guess I know which hot spots to tackle next… Eeuww, we don’t even have a microwave. Food gets reheated in a cast iron skillet or in Pyrex in the oven. Plasticware is for storage, (although I knew a Tupper lady who would cook corn on the cob by pouring boiling water into a large Tupperware bowl. SMH.
Allie that low BP could be really good news. Fingers X’d for the lower dose rX.
Tracey, Oregon banned the plastic grocery bags with handles. You can pay five cents for a paper bag or bring your reusable (heavy plastic or fabric) ones. BUT we still have plastic produce bags. I have a lot of plastic bags saved for picking up poop, not just produce bags but the plastic bag that bread comes in, but nowhere near hundreds… ;)
Barbie hope the chiropractor’s appointment is just routine maintenance and no injury.
Mo how strange and startling that your joint account was closed without you or your DH knowing. Hope it was just some kind of clerical error. ((hugs)) to you for all you do for those littles.
Beth thanks for popping in, was missing you.
Vicki what a shock! ((hugs held extra extra long))
Lisa  the hanging quilt panel. Yours to Vicki, especially “hard to see the blessing in a brutal change, but this may have saved your life - they were pushing you awfully hard for an awfully long time.” Truth this.
@terewilliams good to see you popping in Tere! Likewise you @poerava14 Rori!
    Evelyn, karma indeed
Decluttering challenge Day 29/30 Oh no, not Books!!!
29-Time to return my collection of Roguish Regency Romances to the universe… and a miscellaneous half dozen other books.kjma3g6fp749.jpeg
Whoops! Looks like I missed day 16/30 Junk Drawer. Will try again later.
    Later, lighter, lovelies!

Vicki- Wow- what a shock. I am sorry your are going through that. Hopefully you can find something fun work wise to get you through those few years.
That is what dh is doing- he has one year before he can pull SS so just trying to keep getting hours until then.

MIL has been complaining about her stomach for quite a while- says it feels like food is getting stuck and has hearburn-no meds are helping. We figured it was just something else to complain about. Dh just talked to her doctor about it. Dr is concerned so going to set up an appointment for gastrio. He says there is a good chance is it stomach cancer because of all the years of heavy smoking(still smokes a pack a day and is almost 89yrs old). Hate to say it but maybe there is a light at the end of this very long bitter tunnel after all.

Skipped walking today- was feeling tired but was going to push and at least part of the trail but right as it was time for me to leave, dh needed my help and he wasn't in a good mood so no telling him I would help him when I got back.

Mo- Not sure it is water retention- more like lack of any exercise at all except a few short walks with MIL's dog- skipped walking the wetlands and skipped Zumba- Asthma is still acting up- 3 treatments a day now.

Going p to mom's EARLY Saturday morning- will leave here by 5AM- that still gives me an extra hour sleep beings we get up at 4 when I am up there to go help at the food program/food bank at church. I will go straight to the church and should get there about 6:30. I will take the big carpet cleaner to do her carpets.
Picked up salmon and steaks for dinners this weekend plus a roasted chicken for lunch Saturday.
Walmart had them marked down again- salmon and steaks were marked down too(those were from Grocery Outlet. I cooked 3 of the filets here last night before class for everyone- they turned out really good.
I love cooking for mom- she really appreciates it.
I will bake some kind of dessert to take with us when we go visit my aunt- Hopefully it works out- she has canceled on me the last 5 times(sick or forgot she had other plans)> She is dad's last sibling-she is the last of 10

Don’t ask me to explain this...but I call Exodus Works about the TV. Well, it seems that they can’t take it to the landfill but they can move it from the house to a trailer then we have to drive it to the landfill and someone at the landfill will help us take it off the trailer. The landfill can accept something from a person but they can’t accept it from an organization. My neighbor has a trailer and I’m sure we can borrow it. So that’ll get done. We have a trailer hitch on the Outlook.

We’re going to trim the cat’s nails and then I’ll start on the “fence” for the Halloween and Christmas decorations. Update: finished the “fence”. See, I put the stakes where they should go and then Vince goes after me and straightens them out

Mo – I’m so sorry to hear about dh. Thank goodness he’s safe. And Rose, how horrible! Hope you can get that check. Update: glad to see you did. Oh, the cake was VERY moist. Here’s the recipe:

    1-3/4 cup AP flour
    1c sugar
    3/4c cocoa powder
    1-1/2t baking powder
    1-1/2t baking soda
    1t salt
    1c buttermilk
    1-1/2c packed brown sugar
    1 large egg
    1 large egg white
    1/4c oil
    1/4c corn syrup
    1T vanilla

Heat oven to 350.  Coat a 12-cup bundt pan w/ nonstick cooking spray.  In a medium bowl, whisk together flour, sugar, cocoa powder, baking powder, baking soda and salt.  In a large bowl, blend buttermilk, bananas and brown sugar.  Beat in egg and egg white. Stir in oil, corn syrup and vanilla.  Gradually fold in flour mixture until just combined (small lumps are okay).  Pour into prepared pan

Bake 45 min or until wooden skewer inserted into cake comes out clean.  Let cool in pan on a wire rack for 20-25 + minutes.  Remove from pan to cool completely on wire rack.

    Makes 16 servings

    240 cal
    4g protein
    48g carb

    5 g fat (1g sat)
    2g fiber

Heard about the condo. Seems things are fine. It even looks like they didn’t get a whole lot of rain, just high winds. There was a tornado near Cocoa Beach that took out a couple homes. Yes, we were concerned, but so glad everyone is safe.

Plastic grocery bags: if ever they are outlawed around here, I don’t know what the soup kitchen will do. See, they use these for giving out the lunches to people who don’t (or can’t) dine in.

Lisa – wonderful find at that thrift store. You can buy something at a thrift store and then resell it? That’s wonderful

Walked to Food Lion and got Vince bananas. They didn’t look good so I’ll probably get him more at WalMart when I go there Sunday

    M – feel better

    Yea yogi, you go

Vicki – your news took my breath away. How devastating!

Tere – we’ve missed you, too. Pop in more often’

It sort-of kills me when I give something away because it’s out of style, then it comes back in style!

    Very sorry to hear that!

Have they offered you a severance package or the opportunity to work in a different department?

When I'm hit with challenges like that, I often burn off all the anger, frustration, and a whole list of other emotions by going for long, long walks, bicycle rides and runs. The activity gives me time to think in the fresh air, to scream into the wind, to exhaust myself ... and to accomplish something.

In the UK, in a situation like Vicki's, after 37 years service, you would get a very large redundancy package. Some people volunteer for redundancy.
I don't suppose it is the same where she lives. :|

It's the first step of how they reduce the workforce here ... asking if anyone would like to volunteer for redundancy. Lots of older people do volunteer because they can get quite a decent amount of money which allows them to retire early or pop the money into the bank and find another job ... maybe pick up something part-time, take on consultancy work, or start their own little business.

Vicki - My new book is called 'WHAT IF...I AM '. This morning I was writing about a big turning point in my life, which felt like a tragedy at the time. This is what I wrote.

'And now my narrative takes a more personal form, for the 'what if' speculation in this book also includes the personal twists and turns of all our lives, the 'sliding door' moments that radically change the trajectory of our existence. We often don't see them like that at the time. Usually we see them as a closing down, a 'road not taken', or that we were prevented from taking, and it can cause us grief, even trauma, but, more often than not, the jolting diversion from our planned path opens up a whole new algorithm of opportunities we never dreamt of.'

The truth is, we never know where next fork in the road is going to take us. What seems like something terrible can be a blessing. Lisa says it could have saved your life. I agree.
You will be angry. You will grieve. You will take a while to find a new way, raging at the unfairness of it all, that's natural and normal, but you can hold on to the tiny chink of light that says it may be also a gift. You will find a new Vicki. <3

Lots of love, Heather UK xxxxxxxx

    Good morning beautiful ladies!

Vicki I'm so sorry for your turmoil. Losing a job is like losing part of your identity. Quite painful, even if there is a new you at the end of the journey. You will find your way. But such a shock to get through!

Michele Yay for the condo escaping hurricane damage!

Dad has his class today so I have some free time. Not sure what I will do, maybe finish unpacking. Maybe some meditation. Maybe sleep because I still have a bit of jet lag.

Yesterday I ate poorly. And tonight we are having Chinese takeout with my aunt across the street. Always a struggle. Yesterday my sitter brought homemade chocolate covered peanut butter balls. She likes to feed us. I need to strengthen my discipline and my legs on the bike.

Have a wonderful day! May you be happy, healthy, safe and free!

I would be surprised if she gets anything more than two weeks' pay, and I'm not sure they have to do that. It's immoral.

Vicki, I'm so very sorry that this is happening to you. It's just horrible.

Much love to you. Be gentle with yourself. This is a huge shock.

I have not done much at all this past week.

    Today, I managed a shower!

I also didn't have an afternoon nap for the first time all week.

I've been sleeping 12 or more hours a day all week trying to shake this whatever it is (not COVID, I checked).

Oh @Vicki, I feel for you. The same thing happened to me and my department 2 weeks before Thanksgiving. They did have the outsourcing company there who ‘re-hired’ everyone on the spot. None of us believed it and we were all in a total mess until January 1 that year. We ended up lucky in that the out sourcing company did hire us back with more benefits, however, we never found out until after the holidays that year. What a depressing Thanksgiving and Christmas. Just remember, everything happens for a reason and it will turn out to be the right thing. Just not the right time! I don’t know what management thinks doing this stuff right before Thanksgiving and Christmas. Don’t they realize how much this will affect people?!
