Intermittent Fasting and Vitamins

Hi. When I am fasting can I take my multivitamin with water? Or do I have to wait for the period when I begin eating?

What are you hoping to accomplish by intermittent fasting? There's no 'miracle' behind it that will be undone by taking vitamins. I would say however that some micronutrients will be better absorbed when you take your vitamins with food, so personally I wouldn't take vitamins on an empty stomach.

I don't think it would break a fast, but I'd take it with food as well!

There is no magic to intermittent fasting. Your progress or lack of it will be determined by your overall weekly calorie consumption and not meal timing. If it helps you take fewer calories overall then it’s worth it. If not, then you’re wasting your time. Vitamins are fine during the fasting period.

You'll need to consume vitamins A,D,E and K with a fat source because they dissolve in the fat and then are absorbed into the blood stream and if this isn't done then the absorption of these vitamins are drastically reduced. A multivitamin is pure marketing and a waste of time imo.

I don't think there are "fasting police", so individuals can make some decisions about how to structure their fast.

But others are right: From a nutrition standpoint, it's better to take your vitamins with food.

It's even better to get your micronutrients from the actual foods you eat that inherently contain those micronutrients, rather than from a supplement.
