Cheers to a healthier lifestyle!

Hi everyone, I'm brand new to MFP and started my (hopefully) final fitness journey as of 10/11/24. I have struggled for 18 years with hypothyroidism and have recently made it to a weight and size I never wanted to reach much less surpass despite living a pretty active lifestyle with regular exercise.

I have in the past week received some news regarding my health that was the wake up call that I needed to really prioritize my health and happiness now before things really become a problem. So far I have noticed a decent drop in water weight (which is still encouraging) and am adjusting to a new low carb - high protein diet per my dietician and am finding it SO helpful to log my meals on the app!

However, it would be lovely to find other individuals to share this journey with so that we can keep one another motivated and accountable in reaching our goals and share some useful tips and recipes!

    Hello and welcome!

You might want to check out some of the challenge/motivation threads or groups in these parts of the Community:

    https://community.myfitnesspal.com/en/categories/motivation-and-support
    https://community.myfitnesspal.com/en/categories/challenges

There are some accountability threads scattered in other areas, too.

Those kinds of things can be a great way to virtually meet like-minded people and get/give support.

I'm not a great buddy-candidate, I'm sorry to say: I am severely hypothyroid (properly medicated), lost weight from class 1 obese to a healthy weight back in 2015-16, and have been maintaining in a healthy range for 8 years since. I'm mentioning this in the hope it will be encouraging: Hypothyroidism is not an insurmountable barrier to weight loss. In fact - weirdly - it turned out that my calorie needs are actually higher than typical for my demographic. (I'm female, 68, 5'5", mid-130s pounds now.) It can happen, even when hypo.

Best wishes - the quality of life improvements are worth the effort, IME!
