Hi all I’m new to the community! Lost 100lbs now slowly coming back

Hello everyone, my name is Rick. I’ve been using MyFitnessPal on and off for a little over two years now. I started my most recent weight loss journey back in April 2022 when I weighed close to 300 lbs. By March 2023, I had reached my lowest weight in years at 192 lbs.

Unfortunately, the weight has slowly crept back up, but thankfully, I’ve been able to keep most of it off. Right now, I’m weighing in at around 217-220 lbs, depending on the day. I’m trying to do my best and not be too hard on myself, but it’s tough because I’m terrified it will all come back if I don’t get back on track.

When I lost the weight initially, I was very consistent with my calorie deficit (around 1,500 calories per day), and I was running 5-7 days a week. These days, my calorie tracking is hit or miss—I’ll stay on track for a few days, but then I’ll binge on pizza or sweets for a day or two. I’m still running, but it’s down to about twice a week now.

I really want to get back to the habits that helped me lose all the weight, but I’m finding it hard to stick with them. I’ll stay focused for a few days, then go over my calories, get discouraged when I weigh myself, and lose focus for a few more days before starting over again. It’s frustrating, especially since the smaller clothes I treated myself to after my big weight loss don’t fit as well anymore. I can’t help but feel like I’m failing.

Has anyone else been through something similar? How did you get back on track? Is this kind of weight gain typical after a significant loss? Please tell me this is normal and that I can still reach my goals. My target weight is 165-170 lbs. I’m 5'8" (5'9" on a good day) with an average build.

I’m looking forward to chatting with you all. Thanks for having me!
