My name is Amy and I am 60 years old. I started back on my high protein, low carb diet again the day after Christmas and so far I have lost 11 pounds!! It is going well. I am being VERY strict with everything I consume and it is paying off. I am excited it is working so well.

    Hi, Amy, and welcome!

Losing 11 pounds is great, especially given the challenges of the holiday season - good show! Finding a way of losing/maintaining weight that we can stick with long term is key to long term success, IMO. If the high protein/low carb eating style is that for you, that's perfect.

I joined MFP at about the same age you are now . . . well, 59 in my case. For me, it was the perfect approach. I've been maintaining a healthy weight for 8+ years so far, now age 69, after 30 years of pre-loss overweight/obesity. The quality of life improvement has been huge. I hope it works well for you, too.

I'm cheering for you to succeed: IME, the results are worth the effort!

    Hello Ann,

Thank you so much for your encouragement. That is so wonderful that you have maintained your weight for so long. I plan to use MFP permanently to lose and then maintain my weight loss. This diet is the only thing that works for me with medication I have to take. I used to be slender before for most of my life and it has been hard to accept that I am heavier now with my meds. I am thrilled this diet is working so well and plan to pursue it hard. I would love to stay in touch with you now and then if you like. I would like just a few support friends to take this journey. Thanks again for the time and response. Have a great evening..........Amy

    Hello Amy,

congrats on your weight loss. I am on my health journey now at Day #128 and I have lost 40 pounds so far. I am not on a diet but on a mission to change my life. I ate too often, I ate too much and too unhealthy. Also I ate too many sweets and too many bad carbs like white bread or biscuits, so I ballooned up to 348 pounds and ate myself in the beginner state of diabetes (which I have now reversed.)

I am eating protein and carbs because I need both, but I have cut out gluten (white flower) potatoes, and most added sugar and I kicked dairy to the curb (for health reasons.)

I am not using weight loss injections or other medications that would help me to lose weight. I am on prescription meds that were not solely the reason that I got so big, but it had a lot to do with it. (Prednisone being one of them.)

I have founded a group, maybe you want to check it out? https://community.myfitnesspal.com/en/group/147326-determined-losers-on-a-mission-its-not-a-diet-its-a-lifestyle-change

I haven't figured out how to stay in contact with people other than in a group or via messages, which gets pretty old very fast.

Either way. Welcome to MFP and to you new lifestyle. :-)

Please feel free to send me an MFP friend request if you'd like to be able to direct message me here on MFP. Only people who are "MFP friends" can DM each other, except that anyone can DM MFP staff members. If you're not sure how to do send a friend request, post back here and I'll be more detailed.

Or, if you post again on this thread, I'll see it in my notifications and read it.

There's a 60+ thread here, very long running and still active, where I and other participate that you might like:
