Aaah it has been a journey…. I began with 80lbs to lose and started and stopped so many times. Lose it/Gain it. My FitBit showed I had lost 25lbs 37 times. When I would think of the massive number I would need to lose—- I would get overwhelmed… think I tried almost every nutrition idea/plan out there. They all worked…. But nothing I would stick with.
I came across Insulin IQ and my world began to change. I say began… as there was still so much discovery for me.
WE ARE BARRAGED WITH HEALTH AND NUTRITION INFORMATION…
EVEN LISTENING TO THE DOCTORS AND SCIENCE CAN BE CONFUSING BECAUSE THEY DON’T AGREE…
I want to share with all of you because I KNOW.. how hard this journey is.
The smartest thing I have heard:
A Doctor, the one who coined the name for the now Carnivore Diet said- our bodies can live on Ketones or Glucose from Carbohydrates. If you structure a diet to follow either, you will do well….. the problem is…. People mix them and sabotage any progress.
So…. Which will it be for me, I wondered.
Then there is the…. “MAKE IT YOUR LIFESTYLE”….. THAT WAS ITS OWN JOURNEY…….
I have a dear friend in the medical community and she said… we are like walking chemistry sets. So very true.
THEN THERE IS THE INTERNET AND THE FIREHOSE OF INFORMATION…. DEAR LORD…. WILL THE MEDICAL COMMUNITY GET ON THE SAME PAGE PLEASE!!!!!
So—- I say this… Face your reality- what medical conditions are you dealing with?
I want to encourage all of you….
For me— I went to a weight loss clinic and a NP took my bloodwork and my A1C. NO DR HAD EVER DONE THAT!!!!!!!!!!!! That is when I learned I was Pre-Diabetic. This after 6
Mos of Keto so…. in the end, I was most likely an undiagnosed Type 2.
WHY DON’T DR’S TAKE YOUR A1C unless you ask them to???????
I called my insurance company and found out they would cover the cost of Constant Glucose Monitor. ABSOLUTE GAME CHANGER. It showed I was having Hypoglycemic events. Hmmm does this mean I should not exercise???? NO! It means I need to monitor and have some Glucose tablets with me…..
Then the diet, remember….. I tried many many programs and they all worked but not to maintenance and sustainability.
I learned how Carbohydrates turn to sugar and make a person hold fluids and increase hunger….. hard to avoid them totally.. hmmm what to do ?????
I noticed when I restricted my eating window, I lost weight. If I began my day with a satiating Breakfast around 11am. Protein and healthy fat and a lower glycemic bread that had been frozen could be enjoyed every now and then — This breakfast after upon waking- I would have coffee with MCT 8 oil and some half and half. This routine regulated my Blood Sugars and managed my hunger.
I learned new recipes for some of my/my family’s favorite foods.
Slowly—-I mean Slowly…. I began to change my life.
Our lives are ever changing…. Different social events and celebrations…. How will I navigate those???,
It has taken a couple of years but my
pantry is now filled with ingredients for my lifestyle. Recipes are becoming familiar.
I have 31 more lbs to lose but I am at peace with my lifestyle and journey. I KNOW I will reach my goal this year 2025! How very exciting. It has come off very slowly but I enjoy my meals and life.
Intermittent Fasting at a sustainable time frame works for me. I am not hungry most of the time and if I am— I have my go to’s to tide me over.
I shared to encourage you…. It is a tough journey….. our hormones work against us. —— Low carb and intermittent fasting keeps my Ghrelin down (The hunger hormone). So No Obesity Rebound for me. Fist bump.
Remember to love yourself! give yourself grace. This is not your fault…. Our food supply encourages Obesity.
Remember- it is extremely difficult to avoid all carbs— remember that carbs to increase your hunger and are best enjoyed after eating your veggies and protein
I do take some supplements - I have a metabolic dysfunction which makes it more difficult to lose weight but I am working through that.
You Dr may see you a fee times a year…. We know our bodies better than they do - they can explain possibly the whys.
I would go for my annual blood work and everything looked “in range”. So I am
medically healthy and Obese. MHO— not I knew 80lbs overweight-I WAS NOT HEALTHY…. Fight for your health!!!!
Anyone overweight is Insulin Resistant…. It is worth working through all the elements to heal that. I had to go to my Dr and make my requests for various protocols. Thank goodness I have. Dr willing to listen to me.
Wishing everyone all the best in their wellness journey.
I find logging my Macros really helps. Thank you Fitness Pal for this App
