Ugh different topic- I woke up yesterday from a rage dream where my estranged sister had appeared and I was (in my dream) punching a hole in the wall. Wowza right??? She’s a difficult person, ask anyone- family, friends. I won’t bore you with the details but our relationship hit a stumbling block she refused to move past about 15 years ago and I spent the next 12 years just being a puppy getting kicked trying to be her sister. 3 years ago I stopped trying or really caring, went no contact.
For Christmas last year as a gift to my parents I extended an olive branch to my sister and emailed her to see if she would go to family counseling with me. Not necessary to become besties but to at least be in the same room together.
I had kind of hoped I wouldn’t actually have to go through with it, my parents were aware and happy that I had tried.
So yesterday morning I awaken from my rage filled sister dream to an email saying yes to “couples” therapy. Side note- who waits three whole months to answer THAT kind of email!!! Three months without even a “I’m thinking about it”. She’s the worst, I won’t even go into the weird power trip controlling wording of her email. As always I have to remain un-reactive and respond in a neutral tone.

Ughhhhh now I actually have to do this. And what if I’m ripping off a band aid and have to deal with all of the other bad things we just stuff down and smooth over in life???? lol how many of those feelings have I eaten over the years.

@Skyleen75 I'm sorry you've had to go through so much with your difficult sister. Kudos to you for still trying to keep peace in the family and for trying to have a working relationship with her. Even if she's not really trying at all. I'm glad that your parents and family are seeing that you are really really trying. If it doesn't work out, at least they will know you wanted it to be better and you tried ALL that you could. I wish you the very best in the therapy. Who knows, maybe it will turn things around. I'll pray that it touches her heart to make whatever changes are necessary so that the two of you can truly be loving and supportive sisters again.

@itladyee solid goals you have set. Everyone will be cheering you on.

@deepwoodslady So sorry about your friend Diane! And also sorry about your furnace issues. We have had two winter incidents in the past two years. One the night we were to leave town for 3 months (got them to come at 11:30 PM to fix) and then this year, then night we arrive back in MA for a week. The first was just a stupid fuse. The second, we ended up buying a new furnace. :(

@SModa61 I hope I won't need a new one and what we are doing will fix it. Right now it is working well but I am still going to have them change out a particular part in it. A nearby relative just had a new furnace put in and their house is much, much smaller. It was $8000.00 . Yikes!!!! I would rather spend that on the continuing renovations and updates sorely needed. I've already spent so much in the past 9 months including all new siding, all new roof and all new windows. Plus the primary bedroom/bath/closet remodel we are working on. I don't need anything major lol ! I sure am glad you found someone to help you at the last minute with your furnace! That was a close call! Thanks for the heartfelt condolences!

@deepwoodslady Our bill was the same as your relative. We wonder if we rushed. But we were home for the one week and then leaving for 3 months. If the furnace fully went while we were gone, we were worried about all the other damage that could come. If we had been staying up north, I think we would have done like you and gone with the repair and see how long it lasted. I do hope that your IS just the repair and you have no further problems. Good luck!!

    ENDING WEIGHT LAST ROUND 196.4

03/02-195.4-(Trend Weight: 196.5)- Day 2 of no heat in my house. In Northern Michigan that’s dangerous! When power went out Friday night and came back on Saturday morning I didn’t realize it had done something to my furnace. Auto ignition of pilot just won’t work. It comes on but then goes right back off and nothing but very cold air blowing out of ducts. I had to shut it off at the fuse box and turn the gas off to make sure it would not build up gas so it would quit trying to run and warm it up in here. My thermostat has no “off” and the house is colder than the lowest selection so it just kept running. Because I was at the funeral service and dinner until after dark last night, I didn’t realize my house wasn’t getting any heat. Last night was night two of freezing to death. These little ceramic space heaters are only spot heaters so they are not warming up a room, but at least I can stand within 2 feet of them and feel some relief for myself and the cat. They are very tiny but I have 2 of them. Not much help in a 3200+ sq foot house! Of course it’s Sunday and I’m in a very rural area where nothing would ever be open on Sunday’s except the churches. No big box stores here anyway! So I’ve got my 30 year old nephew coming over who’s pretty handy. He has changed out thermo couplers and such in the past. He works as a handyman in the area, but mostly ships off to Oregon to work. Thankfully he’s home right now and will come look at it this morning. I hope he can fix it. He thinks that when the power came back on it may have pushed through some sediment that has to be cleaned. We will not be able to get any parts until tomorrow if we need something new. Fingers crossed for me please. Thank you all for the kind words about my friend Diane. She was beautiful yesterday. Good luck this round everyone!

03/03-195.4-(Trend Weight: 196.4)- I know what I did under the veil of darkness last night (snack-wise) so I am happy with my weight staying the same. My trend weight even dribbled down a bit. I also know I need to increase my exercise. My lack of true movement has been ridiculous. I’m not making excuses, but I spent a lot of time in the past months just sitting (or laying down) with my friend Diane as she bravely fought her cancer. She’s in heaven now and it’s time for me to refocus. I still feel ready to do that, even after more emotional eating last night. I am grateful for MFP and all the support from all of you here. My actions need to better reflect that. My BHAG looms front & center. Bring it on!

    Hi, I'm Charissa.

Thank you, @quiltingjaine , for continuing these supportive rounds!

January: good until I got sick. (I rarely get sick ~ thanks grandkids! :) )
February: it seemed my body was trying to overcompensate for being sick....it was odd.
March: In my blog, I talked about insanity and felt I was fitting the definition....so it's time to shake stuff up a bit. Last round I talked about micromanaging my every move, I did start, even though the scale was doing something else....

Time for a BHAG ~Big Hair Audacious Goal. My goal is to lose 10lbs in March. I can't tell you the last time I lost 10lbs in a single month. I do recall losing 8 last January but we need it big and hairy :) 10lbs in March translates to about 3.3 pounds for the next 3 rounds.

    How Will I do this:
    1) Micromanager ~ proactive and timely review of my actions.
    2) Back to participating in Step Bet which will get my steps up. Aim to burn 2,900+ calories (per Apple watch which translates into closing my move goal)
    3) TDEE experiment ~ I will elaborate on this after a couple of weeks.
    4) Modified Goals (see below)

    Overall Goals for 2025

Lose weight in the kitchen ⚖️, get fit in the gym??‍♀️
Q: What will be different in 2025 vs all the other times?
    A: Change in my mindset
    A: Being mindful and engaged
A: Addressing the elephant in the room!
    A: No excuses
    A: DETERMINED AND ENGAGED
Note: These are pretty much my same goals from 2023 and 2024, I've made some great progress but now it's time to knock this list out! My goals are SMART - just not including all the details here:
    Goal#1 - Calories - 1650. **Eat well ?to Live Well ?✈️?
Goal#2 - Wine/Alcohol Reduction - 85% Dry March or better ** ?? Alcohol kills weight loss as the focus is burning alcohol calories and not fat calories!
    Goal #3 - Water - Minimum 50 ounces - Maximum 100 (only if consumed before 6pm) H2O - Make it Flow ???
Goal #4 - Exercise - 6 days a week (Cardio, Core, Stretching, Strength Training) ~ ??‍♀️ Don't think, just do it!!
Goal #5 - Self Care (Reading, Journaling, Monthly recap, Learning, Pampering)
Goal #6 - Organization and Declutter (Finish unpacking)

Mind you, not a powerlifter by any means but wondering if I should wait to resume my ST until April or whether the impact would be minimal (muscle weighing more than fat) to start now?

@skyleen75 ~ glad your own board with your own BHAG. I just need to make something happen. I'm usually not aiming for big drops as well but even if I do 5lbs, I'll be happy! Oooohhhh..that's a tough one with your sister. Kudos to you for reaching out but I would have an issue with a response three months later! As you describe the tone of the email, I would proceed with caution, as you say, remaining un-reactive and neutral, but I also would include the option to stop at any time. Meaning, if the therapy is not productive, no need rehashing just to rehash. Just my thoughts. Eerie that the dream occurred just before her response!

@Smoda61 ~ Congrats on 100 rounds!!! Good Luck on MOG dress shopping :) I am convinces scales have a mind of their own and do "things" just to test your resolve. Hang in there. You KNOW you followed the program so the scales will eventually catch up. Stay the course!

Hmmm... all/most of my icons disappeared. It's not the 4th yet but I bet it's related. Trying to put them back... I put some back, if this is just going to happen again. I'll wait and see what their update brings

Another one of these long posts, but I’m inspired… I heard this just now via Instagram and tried to transcribe as best I could because I’m sitting here “feeling” like I don’t want to 🏋️‍♀️🏋️‍♀️🏋️‍♀️.

Sharing this for anyone that might want to benefit… When I hit Post reply… My weight training has started for the day!

“It’s normal to not feel like it some days.

Even though I don’t feel like it, that is irrelevant.

If I only do it when I feel like it, I will never reach my goals.

I have to normalize “not feeling like it” and just do it anyway. It simply comes with the territory - must “normalize” not wanting to do it but doing it anyway.”

Many times when we construct habits, we think the trigger has to be positive. Maybe the trigger is a familiar negative thought that leads to the positive habit.

“It’s about getting strong in my body. We all know that now… my mom did not know, but I know. I know now… To live long and healthy I must be strong. This information is everywhere now… Strength = quality of life.

To live our best selves we must be strong in our own bodies.

If I just did the things I felt like doing - when I felt like it, I would never reach my goals. It doesn’t matter if I want to. It doesn’t matter if I don’t feel like it. I just have to do it.

We are the generation that knows - in order to have vibrant lives for all of our years - we have to be strong. It’s not about doing a ton of cardio - it’s about being strong in our bodies. It’s a movement. The message is everywhere.”

The days I don’t want to lift weights, I have to remind myself how lucky I am that I know. I have the knowledge and power to stay strong as I age young.

Cardio was pounded in my head for 50 years. But I have to be strong and that’s what we’ve learned. The only path is strength.

Answer to your question. (my opinion and not nutrition or medical advice).

Your focus this month should be in the kitchen. Proper nutrition with the caloric deficit and macros you determine.

The professional recommendation I received was protein must be the most important macro while you’re trying to lose fat. I strive for between 110 and 125 g of protein per day. Another disclaimer… I am not an expert and I am not giving advice.

Many will have differing opinions. When I lost 30 pounds in three months, “no exercise” was recommended by the plan I was on. But that was 11+ years ago. Research has come a long way.

@CamandJarvis was pursuing her plan by bulking and then cutting.

@pezhed was planning to 🏋️‍♀️ after she reached a certain goal weight.

@UTMom81 started 🏋️‍♀️ in the gym after she reached a goal weight.

    @reshii_devi does it all!!!

You are quite knowledgeable about your journey and what will work best for you. Trust your instincts - you can always adjust. Its important not to lose muscle. Your goal is to lose fat.

This is my personal thought from my personal experience:

30 - 45 minutes of daily activity (walking, stretching, bodyweight movements) regulates hunger, improves insulin sensitivity, and burns fat. Strive for 8k to10k steps (daily) and 30-45 min of
Z2 💓 2-3x per week. Hydrate hydrate hydrate!

I know you will do your own research and decide!

    You got this!!!

3/2- 144.2 (65.4 kg). I don't believe this low will stick considering it's my second big drop in the past two days, but I welcome it as a herald of things to come. Plus this puts me past 50 pounds down from my high in 2020.

    🎷 66 yrs young F, 5ft 4 Round 289(my 219th). So grateful as always @Quiltingjaine.
    So here we go again, I’m just keeping plugging away! New round, this time I need to stop playing around & take it more seriously, I am not in maintenance & I want to get back to where I should be. I will be taking something forward from @Chapter_3 (yet again) if I may "We should be strategically engaged with our lives each day, right?! That’s my word… ENGAGED." " I will try to keep that word ENGAGED in my mind over these new 10 days & also remember that I am the driver of my life & not the passenger. My goal for this round is to get back to 139s. I need to be diligent as only 3-5 days per round staying on the wagon is not sufficient to get me back to where I want to be & then relaxing for the last 2/3 is not acceptable! I want to stay strong, walk the walk as well as talk the talk! & make the round a successful one. So, goals for this round;
    • First and foremost, no feeding frenzies – I am not a shark or even a piranha!
    • to weigh less at the end of the round than the start
    • be happy because I feel that I have made the round count at the end
I need to remain consistent - it does work! Good luck for success everyone.
Achieved goal weigh of 125lb in summer 2016 by losing 66lb and then gradually gained between 7 and 11 since then & didn't want to gain any more, it’s taken me 75 rounds to achieve target of 130 = back to maintenance!! But then I crept up again, so need to get back to around 134. A healthy lifestyle must be a permanent way of life.

Updated 20.08.24 – I met up with youngest DB, first time after his DP passed away at the way too early age of 46. DB lives a long way from us, we see him very infrequently & is very introvert, so not a sharer of info 😞. However, he finally opened up to me, it seems that his DPs bad health leading to heart failure followed by kidney, liver failure & then a massive stroke, was originally caused by heavy drinking. By the time he realised he was abusing his body and went teetotal, the damage was too late to reverse. He was on the list for a heart transplant, but his other organs gave up before one became available.
This has made me think about how I am abusing my body when I have binges with way too much sugar, fat & salt. I know I am a food addict. I'm going to try to think about this when I am tempted to overindulge, I need to start respecting my body more and think about whether I want to be in the best health I can be. My body has served me so well for 66 years, it deserves to be given the best chance to keep serving me well & I've been really lucky that life has not dealt me a raw health deal, so I must not jeopardize that luck.

@_JeffreyD_ I used to make yogurt in a jar on the pilot light of my stove top like a hippie. I had forgotten about that and that stove’s used to have pilot lights!
I am visualizing you in full combat gear in the trenches holding a jar of yogurt studying your graphs and charts!

@itladyee My two cents- it’s always a good time to strength train, especially for women!!!!
The question is not if but how.
You don’t need to jump into lifting. Spend this month warming up those joints and muscles. Body weight squats and lunges, wall sits, planks, sit ups, bridges. Grab a resistance band and do some upper body. This is all strength training. Again just my humble opinion.

Thank you friends for reading my sister rant. Ugh family!!!!! Clarissa- I am definitely going to use your suggestion of having an end point if it goes into an unproductive spiral. That is some really solid advice!!!

03/04 DNW but I know it will be good news when I do! Another day of feeling really engaged, actively resisting snacks and making good choices.
Also a fantastic day in the gym. Some days just hit right.

I am so thankful that I pushed through my feelings of failure and kept showing up here these last two months, regardless of whether I wanted to or not. I’m thinking this might be a habit I’ve created @Chapter_3?
