What are healthy foods I can buy? I have PCOS, Obesity, and Type 2 also.

We only go grocery shopping once every 2 weeks so I would like to know some healthy foods that would last that long. Also my husband refuses to buy me protein drinks, protein powders, uncooked meat (it has to be precooked, deli, in a pouch or canned), no vegan meats or other vegan products. Also have a budget of 50 to 70 dollars just for my food only.

    Apples and oranges keep a while. Canned fruit in juice. Berries don't keep as long, but healthy and last a few days.

    Broccoli, carrots, cabbage, onions, keep well.

    Canned or dry beans.

    Canned tuna and chicken. Salmon if you can afford it.

    Eggs.

    Cottage cheese and yogurt.(unflavored, low-fat, low salt if needed)

    Don't know if cereal is recommended for diabetics, but fiber is, I think. So how about high fiber cereals?

    I'm not pushing protein powder, etc. But if you want it and your husband doesn't, is egg whites in a carton a Good compromise? Or meringue powder (powdered egg whites, check the ingredient list).

    Fresh eggs are fine. I am allowed to cook them and eat them almost everyday. Thanks for all the suggestions they were helpful. I went to a nutritionist once and he said that cereal should be avoided. I did not tell the nutritionist about the restrictions though. I am too embarrassed to tell people about them in public. Also my husband is always with me in my appointments.

    Not to get into your relationship… but your husband refuses to buy you raw meat? Why? Thats… a bit different. If you want it, could you buy it yourself? At any rate, the rotisserie chickens are already cooked and really good .

    Firstly if you can find it and watch it watch the documentary Food Inc. it’s super informative and eye opening and try to use some of the shopping methods they suggest in the movie.

    Secondly, do you have food banks in your area? Many good banks if you tell them you’re on a specific diet (bring a list so you remember everything) see if they have anything that’s on your list. This will help elevate food cost.

    If you are on EBT food stamps and have a local farmers market many of them now accept EBT and most that do offer a special Insentive where you get wooden tokens in exchange for if you purchase $50 let’s say in EBT they will match that and give you $50 Extra tokens if you spend $75 they give you $75 EXTRA tokens so $50 EBT = $100 tokens for food —$75 EBT = $150 EXTRA worth of tokens for food PLUS they give you tokens specifically for produce too. So yur literally getting FREE food “money”. So check into that.

    You can also sign up for rewards programs and such and shop online sales via Amazon for example (they do accept EBT too..) and Walmart has Walmart cash too so if you buy something that is eligible for Walmart cash then whatever you paid for that product let’s say you pay $7 and Walmart cash back says $3 then after the sale whenever the credit processes you get $3 back so really you ony paid $4 for the product in the long run.


    I’m on a super low income and on food stamps so I have to utilize all these things and be clever with my spending.
